hi there, i have a problem with my nexus 7 and i have searched around for some answers i cant seem to find any for my problem.
so the story goes:
i downloaded the nexus 7 toolkit by mskip and i used this to unlock the boot and root my device, this worked fine. I then decided to try another rom, so i copied the zip to the sdcard (or so i thought) and using the toolkit i used option 11 to install the recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.0-grouper.img, (i selected option 1 intall in /boot, i assume this is where i screwed up) this too went fine. but i couldn't install the new rom as it was no longer there, and now i cant get my device to do anything except boot into cwm or i can go into fast boot.
any ideas on what i can do?
i have looked for the default .img to try installing that but i cant seem to find one.
thanks for looking.

dont use a toolkits. download the rom via your phones browser, go into recovery and flash it. anyways, you should try twrp recovery, its better than cwm and not buggy

unfortunately i cant do this as i cant boot into the androis os, i have stupidly overwritten the original boot.img located in the /boot folder, i think i need a copy of the original boot.img to be able to get into android and then get me a new rom

yes i do, but i get confused using those, which is why i used the toolkit to unlock and root my device. unfortunately i got a little carried away and installed cwm into the wrong directory and overwrote the boot img.

i've tried to do this, but it wont let me mount the /scdard, im not sure why, but it maybe has something to do with how i installed cwm on the device, or maybe im have driver issues
UPDATE = i fixed my device, my stupidity knows no bounds, i found an option in the toolkit to download and install the factory standard rom with all the gubbins attached including the boot img so i okay for now untill i find something else to screw up

I see a "return to stock" guide on that page. Thanks, but I'm looking for just the Recovery - not the entire ROM.
You can find it here http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2
just check your version.

THANK YOU, Sir.
Update:
Having trouble with Flashify. It doesn't see a recovery image, I guess. I tried putting the zip file, the extracted folder, AND the single file into Flashify's Recovery folder. No go. It doesn't see a file to flash for some reason. Am I doing something wrong?
Single file would be the way to go. No clue, have never actually used it. Just backed it up. Sorry. Maybe just may work for me. Shouldn't you be able to remove from a tot or extracted kdz bin?
Reverting to stock recovery in order to accept OTA updates ...
For anyone trying to apply any OTA updates, e.g., from Verizon, after modding your phone, restoring back to your previous version and wanting to go back to stock (for WHATEVER reason):
As you may have found out, trying to apply OTA updates with a custom recovery seemingly bricks your phone (it doesn't really, there are some nifty "dd" Linux commands you can use to get your phone to break out of the boot-loop it's stuck in).
Since I went back to my previously backed up stock ROM, I also wanted to revert to my stock recovery so that I could accept Verizon's OTA updates (if only because the popup reminders are annoying and a drain of the battery).
Here are the steps I followed, thanks to this thread:
- I downloaded the recovery.img from the link in Partager.info's post (#4) (choose the model subfolder which corresponds to your variant of the G2).
- I used "adb push" to copy the file from my computer to /sdcard (good to have on the sdcard partition as the rest get blown away when you flash a ROM)
- I installed "Flashify (for root users)" (found in the Play Store) on my phone
- I ran Flashify and chose the stock recovery file I downloaded which was in the /sdcard folder as expected (no need to put image files in specific folders; whatever works best for you)
- It flashed it in a blink of the eye and asked me to reboot; I did and it's worth mentioning I got the Android with the triangle (*clench*)
- I held the power button and forced it to shut down/reboot
- Upon reboot, I saw the Verizon boot animation (*unclench*)
- I checked for an update from Verizon and it prompted me to reboot and apply it; I clicked "Install now"
- It successfully rebooted and applied the update; what a relief to see the firmware update splash screen
Pfew. Thanks again, Partager.info and Steamer86.

Without root you would need ADB to flash it...
Your recovery will get over-ridden on each boot unless you rename/delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p to recovery-from-boot.bak or something.
You will need to use fastboot to flash recovery again, then boot TWRP and go into the file manager and rename the file I mentioned above. Sorry, no way to flash recovery without working adb or root.

You must rename/delete the file I mentioned above if it is a stock ROM, otherwise it reflash the stock recovery on the next boot.

It flashes it on boot, so the next time it might be gone. Most AIO tools take care of it for you.
Your call I guess, is the file there?

Personally, I just added a .bak extension to the file, but you could delete it. The nice part about keeping it is if you are basically stock and want to get an OTA, you can just take off the .bak extension, reboot, have stock recovery back, then take the OTA... but I haven't been stock for some time, and returning to stock is fairly simple anyway.

That image can actually lock bootloader back too ?
No, just reflash recovery... It can't relock boot loader, that doesn't have to be locked to take an OTA.

yeah that's what i am talking about.
where can i delete the faulty file through file manager in twrp? i dont wanna flash a bunch of images or anything can someone PLZ tell me an easier way to get rid of the bootanimation?
can i flash any flashable zip bootanimation? would that replace the current one n fix it?
Did you make a backup of the original bootanimation? If so use Terminal in TWRP to restore it, or try using adb shell command to fix it. That happened to me once on an older phone and that's how I fixed it.

I'm using benzo and i think my permissions are wrong maybe, is it 644 or 755? I want the marvel theme of changing superheroes but i just can't get it to work why does a bootanimation get stuck? Is it the numbering of the images?

You can try fixing the permissions via TWRP recovery.
Another thing that might help, is to dirty flash the ROM again, over the current installation, without wiping anything.

Next time, please only post your question in one place, double posting isn't allowed.
Can't he just remove the boot animation and not transfer one over? I believe the phone will boot but a stock "Android" letter boot animation will load and then the phone will boot where he can install a new boot animation (or maybe put back the old boot animation)
