I can't use Kies to update my firmware because it is rooted.
I need to update without using Kies, while keep all my personal data and setting? Is it possible?
If you get a stock rom from Samfirmware & flash it with Odin, it shouldn't erase your stuff.

After flashing several times latest UBMEA firmware of my PAK region, i am still getting hiccups in performance. So after deciding to reflash to full factory direct from samsung servers through KIES, it is not letting me reflash the firmware and giving me message that 'GT-i9500' doesnt support initializing.
I even flashed older firmware to fool KIES that upgrade is available but stupid KIES is still saying that UMEK is the latest firmware and doesnt let me flash/upgrade through KIES. I even reinstalled my system but that stupid KIES doenst let me flash through KIES. So is there a way for that?
1st way - stock rom installation
2nd way - find some nice rom (i'm usin Omega ROM with faux kernel)
Do full wipe before flashing rom if you have troubles.

Don't Use the rest of options! Don't use "re-partition" or PIT ever until you know what you are doing ,Odin won't wipe your data, but it is recommended to wipe all your data and cache from recovery, for ROM Stability it is useful when you are shifting stock ROM regions CSC etc.
Yo
So i wanted to upgrade my dads S4 to 4.4.2 over OTA, but it says that my device is changed and there are no updates available
No Root or something like that at all.
He bought (brand new) it in summer with 4.2.2 installed on it. Some weeks later 4.3 arrived and we updated it via OTA. Everything worked.
Now he is on 4.3 but it says that the device status is modified. Remember, we didnt didnt change anything which has to do with root or something like that!
I tried to update via Kies too:
i click on "firmware upgrade and initialization" kies becomes grey and stays so. reinstalling drivers still didnt help.
what to do?
Uninstall the old Kies and you need install Kies 3 for android 4.3 :highfive:
I use Kies 3 it freezes sometimes also..
aaaand

It won't erase any data but you won't be able to boot the phone up after flashing though. You have to wipe it. Backup first.
cheers ~

Every flash via Odin wipe data required
If everything has to be wiped, odin wont be a solution i have to usr ota/kies but both arent working
You don't need to wipe any data if you flash an official rom (no test roms) by Odin, it should look like a single .tar file that you select to PDA or equivalent to new odin
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I fixed it!
An app called "Vitamio" was the issue. When booting it always FCd so i randomly deinstalled this app and rebooted - voila device status official! downloading update now
Also if this doesnt work try to boot in safe mode and or wipe cache!
Hi Guys
I want to update my c9 pro with Odin (home_csc) from nougat to oreo.
the problem is my phone already rooted and I dont know what happen when I update it with odin.(boot loop or ...)
i know i can backup my data and flash it with normal csc but i dont want to wipe my data.(app data).
what can i do ?
You can update it with home_csc without loosing your files if you are still on stock rooted rom. If you are in custom rom you will loose everything. You can go ahead and update it with odin without any fears.

can i dirty flash samsung original firmware via odin while keeping my files, apps and settings and reflash twrp and magisk afterwards?
Assuming that the oem unlock switch is activated before the update of course

Download your firmware. When you extract the downloaded file there will be 2 CSC:s files.
CSC - will wipe your phone
Home_CSC - will keep your data
Flash with Odin all files using Home_CSC.
Inportant Note: Backup first.
If you are having issues with using the Home_CSC try from recovery clear cache/davlik or you will have to factory reset or reflash using the CSC file.
You will have to reinstall trwp and magisk.
OEM lock has no bearing when flashing stock firmware.
