Afraid that the issues is still there. I think I might have to send it to the service centre. So my question is unroot the decide using sypersu method, will I be able to re root and if yes how. Secondly if they they change the montherboard, nd put straight mj7 on it, will I be abl do of root it again

Un-rooting and Bootloader Question

My Galaxy S4 stopped working and I'm planning to send it back to get a replacement. However, I rooted my phone before this happened and I'm planning to un-root it before sending it back. I was planning on using the Triangle Away app as well to reset the flash counter but apparently I need to unlock the bootloader first. I read in this thread that you can flash a recovery and root the phone at the same time.
Would using that tool help me in unlocking the bootloader so that I can use the Triangle Away app to reset the counter and un-root my phone using Odin afterwards? The topic creator mentioned that TWRP will auto-lok anything you flash and works as a bootloader unlock but can anyone confirm this? I bricked my Galaxy S3 two weeks ago and don't want to face the same problems with this newly aquired Galaxy S4.
Is it worth it to go through all the trouble to just reset the flash counter or would un-rooting the phone be enough to send the phone back for a replacement?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42320414&postcount=2
Thanks, that guide looks really helpful. I do have one question though, it seems the Triangle Away app needs the boot loader unlocked in order to run successfully on the AT&T Galaxy S4 so what would be a good and simple way to unlock the bootloader and is there a way to check whether or not mine is unlocked? Would running the CASUAL tool take care of this (even if my device is already rooted)?
What guide/method did you use to root? Did you not use the bootloader exploit at that time?
I used the Motochopper tool located on this thread. I hadn't researched enough to know about the CASUAL tool at the time

Hmm...yeah I can see that method would probably work, but that wouldn't reset the flash counter to 0 would it? If the seller happens to notice that, then they won't send me a replacement and will probably tell me my warranty is void; hence why I'm trying to get the Triangle Away app to work but need the boot loader unlocked first in order to do that.

Well if all you did was ROOT the flash counter shouldn't be affected. Iused the same tool. I took the additional step of replacing Superuser with SU user. to rid myself of the "custom" unlocked symbolon boot up. However, the phone was NEVER really unlocked.
Thanks for the replies! I managed to un-root the phone by just flashing the AT&T stock firmware using Odin. Hopefully the binary counter won't be an issue.

[Q] [i9500] Burnt by 4.3 (Knox) - Can't root or downgrade - Options?

I am using the International GSM Galaxy s4 (i9500). I am one of the foolish people who rushed into 4.3 (the Russian ROM doing the rounds - I9500XXUEMJ5_I9500SEREMJ5_SER) without doing sufficient research. Initially it wouldn't even boot properly, and apps would keep crashing, but after a factory reset 4.3 is working okay. I knew that the device would get unrooted, but I didn't know Samsung had a giant turd hiding up its sleeve named Knox. Now in Odin Mode it shows "warranty bit" as "1" I have tried rooting, and everything seems to go as per plan, but it doesn't root it. When I boot the phone I get these annoying notifications - "SuperSu attempted to access system on your device without authorisation" and that the attempt was blocked blah blah blah.
Things I have tried:
I have tried rooting it using crossfire (CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500), and everything goes smoothly. It downloads it in Odin mode and then goes to the red screen (recovery mode) where all the messages seem to be okay. It then boots up fine. Everything in dandy. But no root. SuperSU says "There is no SU binary installed, and Super SU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device." The only thing I have found on forums / google is to try using the CF-Auto-Root file mentioned before).
I have tried flashing CWM and using the root option in the recovery mode menu. It says it's rooted and asks me to reboot. But same thing - no root.
Frustrated by this, I decided to go back to the way things are (If it ain't broke, don't fix it - stupid me!!!) I downloaded a 4.2.2 stock ROM firmware file which a lot of people online are recommending (INU-I9500XWUBMG5-20130726135330) but now when I try to flash it using Odin 3.9, it gives me a couple of error messages in the box in Odin and on the phone something like "Unsupported Version" comes and then it does nothing. I have to pull out the battery, and no progress.
While Knox is a horrible thing Samsung has done, it will probably not affect my day to day usage, so I am fine waiting for a solution to reset it if and when it ever comes and hope that I don't need to use the warranty or alternatively they don't enforce that stuff here in India (more out of ignorance than goodness of heart)). But not having root on my phone is very tough. Unfortunately I can't use many of my apps that require root (Titanium, Avast etc.) - and I don't see what business it is of Samsung if I want to use legit apps that require root in order to enhance my experience.
What are my options (if any )? I am open to using any other (stable) ROMs like cyanogenmod etc. if that provides a solution. Or do I just have to wait till the geniuses (crossfire etc.) figure it out?
Same problem here. I'm waiting for someone to fix it.
Seems like a lot of people around the world have the same problem as I do. I guess we will have to wait. Meantime, I guess I will try flashing the Indian firmware that just came out today (if only I had waited a day!). The Indian one seems to have Knox too, but I feel kind of like in the walking dead - we are all infected, and can't do **** about it.
I imagine whenever crossfire comes out with the root file for 4.3, it should be applicable for all region 4.3 firmwares?
no problem with root
This is interesting to me because i downloaded the mentioned 4.3 Russia rom and flashed it. After i flashed the cf auto root and now i have root. The only thing i have is i cant seem to install knox which it is saying your device is not authorised to enter knox mode. Not sure but i suspect it is because i have root. In download mode it says custom and warranty is 1.
sorry.. i forgot to mention i have the i-9500 international version.
solved!
I don't know, will it be working on update that installed by OTA, but i know that it works if you flashed update by ODIN. Now i have fully functional rooted russian 4.3 firmware.
First, you must know that this method will void your warranty, because it will activate warranty bit counter.
1. Flash the update and wipe data and cache.
2. Do not setting up your device.
3. Enter to downlod mode again, and flash the cofface recovery.
4. Enter to recovery and install the special Chainfire's supersu for 4.3 (look in attachment of this post.)
5. Reboot and setup your phone, but anyway DON'T TRY to use knox, and if you will see dialog window, where it is written about some protection - decline it every time as you see it!
6. Now, you need to stop knox services in application manager. Just stop all aplications that have "knox", and some agent that hase different name, but same icon.
7. Now you can use root, but you need to uninstall all knox services before reboot, because knox will be running again and block su binary. I used RootAppDelete.

still no luck bro ... I have removed all Knox related files through aroma file manager. installed root binary provided by you . installed auto root ... but still no luck
seems some problem with my phone
do I have to do factory reset ?
Yeah... I doubt that method would work. Plus after spending hours manually reinstalling apps and setting up accounts etc. I don't want to factory reset unless it's a sure thing. (Since I don't have root, I can't use Titanium Backup to restore my apps + data).
Is there any news on any method to root the i9500 on 4.3?
I flashed the Indian firmware, and it's working very well! (apart from the Knox b.s.)
4.2.2 downgrade from 4.3 Official Russian
Hi Friends,
I need your help.
I have upgraded to 4.3 Russian FW through ODIN. When i connected to KIES it says 'This device is not supported by KIES"
When i try Firmware upgrade and initialization, it says that it can restore to original firmware MG9. Somewhere here i have read that downgrade is not available. So if try will i brick my device. I would like to go back to original 4.2.2 and wait for official update for Africa as i am from Kenya.
Otherwise 4.3 is very fast and smooth and camera app is working very fast, better battery performance and no hanging.
I will appreciate any help. Thanks

Mate you should have read the whole post before flashing the rom frankly now there is nothing you can do as i and @ll_r1d0_ll were discussing about the same so you should have waited for little more time before flashing the wanamlite 3.1 i got a new myself a new s4 so now the old one is having wanamlite which is tremendous i just loved it but still having a second thought on updating my new s4 to custom .. will wait for some time for some of the magician here on xda will turn the wheel, so we might get lucky.

Rooting my SGS4

Dear XDA,
I come from the HTC One forum and I've sold since I've had camera issues numberous of times.
I decided to switch to an SGS 4, currently on 4.4.2. I have the i9505xxufnb9 variant.
I have a question regarding root.
1. I do not have knox installed yet, should I install it or leave it as it be when using CF-auto root? I'm currently on 4.4.2.
2. Is CF auto root compatible with my variant?
3. What version of Odin should I be running? I guess this is the most important. I don't want a sketchy Odin.exe that comes pre-set up. It might have some setting on that erases something that is crucial for my device.
4. Is there some sort of bootloader unlock I need to do first? My device is unbranded GT9505 version with the above written variant.
5. How likely am I to brick my device? I mean I come from the HTC one forum which was fairly easy. Setup fastboot and unlocking the bootloader did the job.
6. I came to understand it WILL trigger knox, does it mean voided warranty here in the Netherlands?
7. I understand that SuperSU has an option to unroot at any given time. When I want to return to stock for say warranty purposes, Can I download triangleaway, run it, and then unroot using SU app?
Thank you so much for your time!!
No one?
Cf autoroot comes with correct odin, if you do not have Knox don't install it, (you automatically get it if you took an ota). And no bootloader unlock is needed almost all Samsung devices come with an unlocked bootloader, and the only way you'll brick your device is if you flash something not meant for your phone or if you have knox and try downgrading your firmware...
And if you do have knox, rooting will permanently flag your device as modified with no way of going back. If you don't have knox you can use triangle away to reset the flash counter.

[Q] Note 3 Manual Re-Root - no SU binary installed

I rooted my device with Kingo Android root. I am currently running android OS 4.3.
Everything was going just fine until just today when opened SuperSU and it told me that there is no SU binary installed. SuperSU cannot install it.
Pretty much I need to manually re-root my device.
I am not aware of any recovery files that I may have. To clarify, I have never backed up my device in any way. I have only had it for a month, and there is hardly anything on it. I figured, why bother? Well now I know.
I have done quite a few google searches about this, and I can not find any help.
What is my best course of action?
Thank you very much.
Try reflash and re-root with cf-auto root through Odin. A a small question: u still have root right to install some app such root explorer and titanium backup?

Unfortunatly, I no longer have root. None of my root apps can get root permissions because the SU binary is missing.
I tried flashing my firmware, but now my phone is stuck in an unusable state. The official firmware leaves me unable to boot with a "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
When I flash a different ROM on top of that one, all my spen stuff is messed up.
This is way different from jailbreaking. There are so many rom files I have a hard time finding the one I need.
SM-900A in case anyone wants my number.

You need to go on sammobile and download your stock firmware (you probably want to stay on 4.3 unless your particular phone and carrier have root capabilities on 4.4.2 which verizon and att do not yet have) then flash it through odin... just search your model # through sammobile and it will show all the available stock firmwares. That will at least get you running again then u will have to root it again from there
Posted from my beast of a VZW Note 3!!
I downloaded the firmware from that site and have tried to flash it.
I get an Error Meassage:
SW REV CHECK FAIL : [sb1]Fused 2 > Binary 1

Updating SuperSU is what cause this mess, I believe. It's too late for that now anyhow, because my phone does not boot.
I have the SM-900A. There is no cf-autoroot for it. Not that I canfind at least.

[Q] Please help a noob out. This is the last time I'm trying :(

Ok. So I've tried to ask this question before, and every time I get people telling me to do things I just don't understand. Sorry. Not trying to spam. If this question goes unanswered I will not post another and I apologize if this is too stupid. Just a noob trying to get help.
All I want is to update my phone (SM-G900F) to the most recent Android version. Like 3 weeks ago I got the prompt to update OTA because a new update was available. I've haven't modified my phone other than Towelrooting in July and having SuperSU and Titanium. Had planned to get way more root stuff but so far I haven't had the time.
OTA Update failed, told me my phone was modified in an unauthorized way and suggested to update through Kies.
Here's my question: What's the simplest, easiest way to update correctly? I'd rather do it one way or the other: Either, I unroot with SuperSU and remove Titanium, then download Kies and try to update, if successful I reroot with Towelroot OR: I can manage to update WITH Towelroot and SuperSU still there, if so, how?
That's all I'm asking. Would the first option work best? Is there a better way? I don't want to use Odin or anything like that, I don't want to use custom roms or anything, I'd just like to have the most recent update and root, that's it. Please put me out of my misery.

You can't have it both ways. Odin is the easiest, otherwise try Kies.
Download NeatRom and you will get the latest Rom.

So would it work if I unroot with SuperSU, then install Kies on my pc and update to most recent Anroid version?
Or, if I'm already going to unroot first with SuperSU, can I then just try the OTA update and if successful, can I reroot with Towelroot or will that be outdated with the most recent Android version?
Download odin 3.09. Download the latest official firmware for your device, search the forums to find the latest one. Extract the .tar file inside the firmware zip u downloaded. Make sure you have the drivers installed for your phone on your computer. Extract Odin and run the .exe to open the Odin program. Put your phone into download mode> While Powered off hold volume down.. Home.. And power button. Press continue when given the warning plug in your phone to the PC.. Within Odin click the ap slot. Load the .Tar file which is your firmware. Make sure Odin recognizes your phone is plugged. Hit start. Sit back and watch it flash.

Ok. I hope this does not sound arrogant. But I honestly can't believe why anyone on this forum can't directly answer my question instead of giving me other suggestions. I don't want to use Odin, it's too complex for me and I don't want to mod my phone to hell and back. I just want to get the most recent update released 2 or so weeks ago.
Nobody has said whether the Kies method works (letting Towelroot remain on my phone and trying to download most recent Android version with Kies on my pc), or whether I unroot with SuperSU, remove all root apps (I only have 3), then try the OTA update just with my phone and see if that works. Can somebody please just answer that? PLEASE
..
I think I'm correct in saying the most recent ota comprised on little more than minor tweaks and security updates.
The world's not going to come to an end if you don't have the very latest update.
Perhaps more research BEFORE choosing the root route would have been wise, at least then you would be more informed as to the outcome of your chosen option.
Having read the last few posts it's clear to me, even as a relative S5 noob that your questions been answered quite comprehensively. Just not the install an app and reboot option you were hoping for.

Just before I get stuck into my pizza. .....
.......did you by any chance select ART rather than running a DALVIK system?
I did that before rooting and I got the same can't install ota due to modified yada yada.....
I reverted back to Dalvik and the ota installed no problem. As I said.... This was pre rooting so might not be relevant.

from reading the replies above i think the answer is no it wont but why not just give it a try, if its not going to work it will just tell you so (like the ota update did)
your options as stated above are to either use odin and install the latest update or take it to a shop or find someone who is close to you who knows how to use odin and ask them if they wouldnt mind doing it for you and buy them a beer as a thankyou,
odin isnt hard to use in fact it couldnt be any easier to use for a noob just follow a couple of simple steps and your done
i hope you get this sorted

It should work as I have done that on my old device before but you have to re-root your s5 again after the update.

Towelroot after latest OTA-Update doesn't work!
I don't know if the idea of an update is so good.
My SM-900F was Towelrooted to run Titanium, too.
My setup was "OTA when in a WIFI network" and clicked "update yes" - I was typing some notes very late,
the message box popped up and --- swoosh --- the Update was running. No need to say my notes weren't saved?
I don't even know what that update contained and what it was good for.
Now I run 4.4.2 ,
Baseband G900FXXU1ANG2
Kernel 3.4.0-2089850 [email protected] #1 July 3rd 2014
Build KOT49H.G900FFXXU1ANG2.
Root access has gone, Towelroot says "device not supported", Titanium doesn't work anymore.
No I have to start Windows only to run KIES - waf.
So be careful.
Dirk
Ok, so I have unrooted with supersu and removed Titanium. Supersu is still there. I've tried to do an OTA update, and surprisingly this time it actually went so far as to actually download the updates. Then after I press install, it goes into boot mode and says like 20% or more installed, then it goes black and reboots, everything is normal but the update failed.
What. Now.
They should really start telling people that rooting will cause updates to become a nightmare. Please help me, this is ridiculous.

Lack of common sense is my diagnosis.
Of course it's not always going to be plain sailing. And early days with any new handset means there are answers we just don't know yet.
That's why pretty much every thread has a precursor from the Dev that says "use at your own risk","read instructions fully before flashing" or " it's not my fault if your dog gets fleas or your nan pegs it" etc etc etc. If you have any doubts rooting your phone wasnt for you..... you shouldn't have rooted.

bump, can somebody tell me conclusively for once and for all if the following will work: I have unrooted with supersu (originally rooted with Towelroot in July) supersu and titanium are removed, OTA update still doesn't work. if i install Kies on my pc, will an update work, AND will I be able to use towelroot again to reroot.
thank you.

Did you use Triangle Away to reset the system status and binaries to official? If not reroot with Towelroot again, use Triangle Away to reset the counters (besides the KNOX flag), unroot with the superSU app, then flash a stock rom with Odin and after that factory reset. Your device is official now.

jesus ****ing christ. i'm not that kind of a phone pro guy. I just want to know if updating with Kies with allow me to reroot afterwards again (whether or not with Towelroot or ****ing Odin isn't important anyway). I rooted with towelroot in july, know isn't tripped or whatever. I have unrooted with supersu. Now I just want to know whether or not updating with Kies on my pc will be successful, and if it will allow me to reroot again, like with Towelroot...
PLEASE

Well I know why no one can answer that simple question. Because no one has done it that way. That is why you can't get the answer you seek. So you have a choice, give up and stop asking, or be the first to try it. Then post here if it works or not.
