Verizon 4.4 OTA - Moto X General

I pulled this from my phone and posted it in the other thread, and someone suggested I make a thread for it. Here it is!
http://j2cool.com/mirror/files/Blur_Version.139.15.1.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US.zip
To install, you will need to be on the latest OTA (camera update).
Fastboot flash the original system.img and recovery, img
You can then use the volume down key to select "Recovery"
Once in recovery, press the power button and volume buttons together to bring up the menu, and select "Install from SDcard"
You can then select the OTA, and install it. Your phone will reboot, and you will have to do this again from the new recovery. You should then be able to reboot system and have your new 4.4 Kitkat Moto X!

You don't need boot.img in either. Now, I don't know how the dev ed works, maybe it's just the exact same with an unlocked bootloader, so let me know how installing goes.

Because it's a large zip file from somewhere no one has downloaded before. I promise you, it's safe and clean though.

Dev edition you can install like any other device. The benefit is that you can flash custom files without recovery flipping its ****.

Put the zip in internal storage. Go into stock recovery, install zip, choose this update zip. Because one of the first things it does it flash a new recovery, you have to go into recovery again and install zip again (the second time around it knows it doesn't have to flash the recovery).
Of course, since this way uses stock recovery, you have to be running stock.

Yes, you're going to lose root (the update will wipe out System). If you have an unlocked bootloader then it isn't a big deal -- just re-root after the update.
BUT don't try to flash this update with twrp installed. 1) I'm pretty sure it won't work anyway b/c it needs to verify that your System is stock and, at the very least, installing twrp changes the install-recovery script which is in System 2) this .zip file is made to be flashed from a stock recovery, so I'm not sure it would work 3) as I said before, part of this update is a new recovery - I'm not sure how well the process would go if you started from twrp

And how would I root after its done

The same way you rooted before?
I'm sorry, I've been assuming you have a Dev edition b/c you said you had twrp -- is that not the case? If you do NOT have a dev edition and you rooted via pwn- or rock- or whatever its called myMoto then NO, you will NOT be able to root after the update until someone releases another hack

I got this the second time (with the new recovery):
"Install aborted"
:|
Maybe the battery level is too low, so i'm gonna charge it a little and see what happens
PS: the "normal" OTA is downloading SO slow D: that's why i'm trying the one in this thread
------EDIT----
For some reason the download speed just increased, so i'm staying with it

I cannot flash this in TWRP right?

I flashed it the same way you flash any image:
Fastboot flash recovery <recovery>.img
If your zips are made from the images then i doubt they will work. Plus, I dont have a recovery to flash them in.
Anyway the Photon Q recovery worked for one reboot then it was somehow overridden by the stock recovery. In other words: I flashed the Photon Q recovery via Rom Manager > rebooted into recovery via Rom Manager > from recovery, booted normally > rebooted into recovery and found it had reverted to the stock one.
The N7 originally had this issue. Ill look into how they fixed it. Found it...
You simply navigate to /system and delete or rename the file named: recovery-from-boot.p. Once you do that, reboot to download mode (fastboot) and flash the recovery like normal. Then reboot into recovery.
Upon exiting the recovery (OUDhs) it noticed that the system would potentially overwrite the recovery so it asked it i would like to disable it. I selected 'yes' as I obviously want to retain the custom recovery.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I wouldn't trust ROM Manager to properly flash a recovery on my phone after picking a different device.
Doing it with fastboot takes about 5 secs anyway.
I don't even remember I'm pretty certain it automatically said my device wasn't supported. I wouldn't have chosen a different model.

[HOW-TO][DEV EDITION ONLY]Root on 4.4 KitKat

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP9WXLIzhTY
I want to first say that I did not figure out this method on my own, I saw it on Google+ via Matthew Pierce and modified it to make it easier to follow
Second, **do not try this on a device with a locked bootloader. You need the unlocked bootloader to do this**.
You'll want to first download these 2 things
1) Superuser zip to be installed in recovery (from Chainfire) -> http://download.chainfire.eu/366/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v1.72B.zip
2) New TWRP for 4.4 KitKat (from Hashcode)->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2534850
________________________________________________________________
Here's the method to get root:
1) let the system fully install the 4.4 Kitkat ota and reboot. **Make sure you are on the first OTA before you try to install the KitKat OTA, otherwise your phone could have major issues.** After it installs, do not do anything else, let it boot into android.
1b) Take the SuperSU installable zip and place it onto the internal storage
2) reboot phone to bootloader.
3) install Hashcode's TWRP using mfastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img. (**use the motorola fastboot binary**)
4) reboot device to recovery, do not boot into android before this step!
5) go to install and find then select BETA-SuperSU-v1.72B.zip
6) Boot back into android, and if needed, go to the Play Store and install SuperSU from Chainfire
7) enjoy root!

Probably nothing. The only reason I mentioned the one in the play store, is because TWRP never actually asked me to root in the first place. I thought it was strange, but I didn't really think much of it

That's odd, I used the TWRP version in Hashcodes thread, flashed with the Motorola Fastboot. When I went to restart from TWRP it asked me if I wanted to root and I let it. Now I'm rooted.

Stranger things have happened, I guess. Regardless of which method you use, you'll end up with root either way
This doesn't seem to be working for me. I accidentally rebooted into Android (hit the power button) then tried the whole thing from scratch.
I get an image of andy with "no command" when I boot into recovery.
Edit: Seems like a low battery issue. Will try again after charging.

How do I return my phone to default in order to install OTA
I have already flashed the stock recovery but my phone is still rooted. Do I need to unroot? I tried installing the OTA and it said it failed.
This method should work on any version with with an unlocked bootloader such as Sprint and T-Mobile - not just the dev editions.

Shield Update 2.2 is out!

http://shield.nvidia.com/tablet-release-notes/2.2/
now to figure out how to get this to update on my rooted LTE Tablet.....
I'm rooted and just got the update. But haven't completed the update yet as I'm too lazy to reroot.
I tried using the nvidia updater, which failed since it rebooted and CWM had no idea what to do. I made a CWM backup so I am going to see how well it flashes in CWM manually.
I managed to find the OTA download location and have superSU at the ready in my downloads folder in case I have to reflash. the OTA saved as:
/data/data/com.nvidia.ota/files/ROM/shield_tablet_software_upgrade_2.2_-_lte__5.0.1.zip
Someone please report the steps on how to do this for Rooted 2.1.
CWM install zip failed. build fingerprint mismatched, its probably CWM. Will try sideloading stock recovery then installing the zip afterward, I think I remember seeing somewhere here that's how people upgraded rooted devices from 2.0 to 2.1
Omg things seem to be more snappy! The dreaded lag may be gone! I'm not rooted so I did the ota install
I'm really interested in your findings, i need to find a tutorial on how to flash back stock recovery then i can do the update and hopefully reroot.

Awsome sounds good. Quick question to get stock recovery back all id have to do is extract the recovery.img file from the ota 2.1 file i downloaded off nvidia's site and load it like i did the CWM recovery from the root thread right?
Or (if you've got root) wait until the full 2.2 .zip is available, then download it and flash it through your custom recovery, followed by the latest SuperSU. (just like the last Lollipop update).
Interestingly, the OTA update tool has an option for "Check full update" (under the top right menu), but it doesn't seem to return anything...yet...

Pretty much you are going
Flash Stock recovery by any preferred method
Flash Update
adb Reflash CWM recovery
Thru recovery flash SuperSU
**Profit**
Working on getting all the files in one package as of right now. Damn internet hogs in my house.

You won't be able to successfully flash the UPDATE .zip file (~94MB) on a rooted (read: modified) Lollipop version.
Recovery version is irrelevant.
You need the FULL 2.2 rom (already found above , ~731MB), flash it in your current custom recovery and re-root by flashing SuperSU again.

ok, here's what I dug up. If you are rooted and want it NOW, get to it, otherwise wait for someone to clean up the process:
get the OTA from here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...hread-released-2-17-15-/post/4464815/#4464815
get your latest SuperSU flashable zip: http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/
get your recovery ready for reflashing, the OTA will install the stock recovery again. I went with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58864006&postcount=90
boot into recovery and install zip from sideload. then choose either: adb sideload productionBL-droid-signed-wx_na_do-full_ota-29979_512.4856.zip or adb sideload productionBL-droid-signed-wx_na_wf-full_ota-29979_512.4856.zip
reboot and let the upgrade happen, you've lost root and recovery, but you still are unlocked so you just have to reflash them. get into fastboot with power and volume down, then flash recovery: fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-shieldtablet.img
load up recovery and flash the superSU zip and you're back in business.

That means a rooted lollipop user with custom recovery, can download the full ota, and dirty flash it, right?

(A5_CHL)Official HTC Desire 816 Lollipop Sense 6 Update for Virgin Mobile Devices

Virgin Mobile Users Only A5_CHL
I've copied the zip file I downloaded via OTA and I'd like to share it with you Virgin Mobile USA Users. I haven't updated as my device doesn't have the appropriate recovery (It has the A5_dug recovery instead of the a5_chl). Make sure you are using the correct recovery and that you haven't modified any system files (such as sd card access, xposed framework etc.). Unroot and uninstall supersu. You need to relock the bootloader if it is already unlocked. Other than that, place the file in your internal storage and apply update through recovery and it should (hopefully) work.
Be cautious, I haven't tested the rom yet as I'm still searching for the recovery, so please BACKUP YOUR ROM BEFORE PROCEEDING
Here's the twrp backup: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByabtAsA5CmscUU1M0JmcFNaNEk&authuser=0
It should be in the folder titled: HTC Lollipop 5.0.2 Sense 6 A5_CHL TWRP Backup. I did not zip up the folder, so you will have to download all of the files and place them into one folder. Then place it unto your sdcard folder containing your twrp backups.
Here is a link and instructions to get yourself 100% stock so you can install the ruu.
Foxydrew wrote up a good tutorial for the previous update we got. I used it the other day to return to stock so I could install the OTA.

BTW the stock recovery can also be found in his post.

I've tried that but it didn't really change anything since I was running the stock rom. for some reason I can't get my device to unroot itself.
An error me and another user are experiencing while trying to update.

It was kinda weird for me too. I was running rooted stock rom w/ custom recovery.
I unrooted with superSU but no matter how many reboots RootExplorer still had SU access. I checked with root checker and it said I wasn't rooted so I just went for it.
Using fastboot I replaced the recovery with stock and then locked the bootloader.
Rebooted into recovery and ran the previous RUU on my PC. It went off without a hitch and put me back to stock KK. Then I just waited for the morning OTA.
Also, your bootloader DOES have to be locked. You can't leave it unlocked if you want to use an RUU.

You dont need to go into recovery after relocking the bootloader. You want to let it reboot to the system and then power down and restart into the bootloader and select fastboot . Hook up your phone to the PC and run the ruu???.exe file. Once it reflashes the last version of kitkat you can download and install the OTA for Lollipop.

Yes, I was able to do that shortly after my last post. It worked well and lollipop seems to be running smoothly. I'm just going to patiently wait for the release of sense 7 now.
Will be closing this thread soon and I've created a TWRP Backup of the Unrooted Stock Lollipop Sense 6 Rom. Will post on another thread once backup is completed. That way, no one has to relock their bootloader, flash a stock recovery or use an RUU

OP has been updated with the link. Just drag the folder to your twrp backup folder and restore from twrp as usual.
