Yes i'm giving away my old Universal.
i'll even help with shipping
i've upgraded to the TOUCH HD, and want to leave my Uni to someone that could benefit.
the way i figure it, i've loved it since i had 3 years ago and if it wasn't for the hard work of the cookers who cracked the updates and even WinMo6, i would have been a lot less happy.
they're very responsible for a lot of the productivity and fun i've had along the way, which i've payed forward. now this is a little direct payback .
The forum members have been great support too, and this community has been a constant source that fuels the evolution of our Uni's.
Included is :
1) HTC Universal G3 (very good condition)
2) 2gb SD card
3) USB to Mini-USB (for data and charging)
4) Tomal's 8.2 ROM (excellent)
5) 2 stylus' (replacement for the original i wore out!)
6) replacement battery (bought 2008, 1600MaH. original wore out)

I'd like it to go to one of the cookers that may need an new/extra Uni for testing, so that it can help with their efforts in supporting the rest of the Uni lovers here.
if there are no takers from any of the cookers, i will happily leave it to anyone else that wants it
now, how do you get it? simple.
for ONE WEEK i invite any cookers to PM me or post here their interest here in a free Uni.
if no cookers want it, then i'll accept interest from anyone else that cares to have ask for it.

well i believe the small amount of money i could sell it for on Ebay (a few hundred dollars AU) and how i could invest that much money, compared to some that can actually use a free device for the greater good is no comparison for me.
there's an Ebay sale HERE where the person has a great offer for a complete Uni with accessories, for a reasonable price.
seriously the value of a few hundred bucks means little to me compared to the value of the device in the best hands.
think of it like:
*giving $300 to a starving stranded man on an island.....or giving him a $50 picnic hamper.
*or, a wealthy person giving $10 to someone in need, compared to a poor person giving $10 to someone even more in need.
there are many energy forms of value, depends who you're relating to and how. that much money in my life isn't worth much, those devices in other lives could mean a lot.
So there's no loss for me, i've already gained enormously from the device and i already have a replacement. i have an efficient upgrade.
someone can benefit a free device/s and gain enormously. an efficient upgrade too.

i'm glad there are people wanting the Nokia, i thought it would be difficult to find interest as it is a phone that not many people liked when it came out.

Put it in bootloader mode. You can see small note at the bottom of the screen, if it starts from 1, then its G3. If it starts from 2, then its G4.

this one is especially good because you back everything up online.
if you find your phone or get a new one you just download everything back onto it.

I mean, who'd be so green to think they're getting their phone back after it's stolen? The police aren't interested in your car when it gets taken, even if it is an "expensive one". And your phone costs less than a single tyre for that car.
And if you're thinking of getting it back yourself then you'll have to be pretty 'ard. In fact so 'ard that no one would steal it in the first place lol
Anyway, I don't know about your country's (I have my suspicions) TMobile but in my land when you report a phone stolen ALL of the networks block it. So anyone who knows their s**t will take it to another country to sell.
So how much do you want to spend on airplane tickets ?
Why not just get insurance, it's worked for car owners before. Or you could try not worrying about it, maybe you'll lead a happier life lol

Which of these will default to tower or triangulated location if no GPS fix available? I use Terminator but it requires GPS lock. Looking for alternative to AT&T FamilyMap that will try to use GPS but still provide a position circle if GPS cannot lock. Need to track Tilt 2, Fuze, and Moto Tundra (non WM). Don't even mind payng for an app (one-time) versus $15/month for FamilyMap.

Your worst nightmare. Lost phone.

I've had the HD2 since November. This forum has been a revelation. But a few hours ago I lost the phone. It's gone for good. No insurance, no location software, unlocked, 16gb sd card. Adios amigo.
Perhaps not my finest hour. Sadly, I wasn't even drunk. Just fell out of my pocket in the taxi cab. It seems some people in Poland aren't that honest. I contacted the actual cab 20min later through the company but it wasn't there.
Anyway, I still consider myself a lucky guy. This was my first foray into the world of smartphones and through an almost free upgrade on t-mobile uk i got the phone for only 100gbp (+40 for the sd card). I bought a few apps and pirated quite a few more, so perhaps this is karma at work.
Writing this is somewhat therapeutic for me but the need to find a replacement is paramount so this also allows all you guys to share your wisdom, if you will..
No other phone matches the HD2 for screen size. It's pure luxury - ok its not AMOLED, but I've looked just now - and AMOLED is maxed at 3.7" - a significant downgrade.
The other issue is the pirating of software. I know it's wrong but I think we can all agree it's the most convenient way to test apps before buying.
However, WMP7S has left me somewhat unimpressed, I think Android is where it's at right now - development is on fire on that platform. Am I wrong? should I wait to see what happens on wm7 - i suspect that would take a year at least
So what are my options? Whichever phone I pick must be supported by XDA.... (I know I don't have many posts yet, but I chose my name for a reason... )
HTC Desire? HTC Bravo? Samsung Pico (Projector phone!!!) What's coming up?
I suspect this is the year of the smartphone and my academic year is almost up so I can perhaps hold off until the summer before buying. (Back to my w810 - still the toughest phone ever built imo)

I'm not proud but I'm not rich either - I'm trying to do Med School on the cheap and its not easy. If a simple google search gives me free software, only a fool would say no.
This has only been a brief visit to the Windows platform since Windows 7 came out. For 3 years prior to that I was using linux.
Virtually all the apps I use regularly,eg FPSECE, I paid for the supporter version. There's plenty of programs that don't survive more than 2 weeks.
I apologise to anyone who may feel insulted. My intent is not to steal, but to get value for money.
Is this further weight to switch to Open platforms?

You can Google a lot of things. So you should steal them? No need to respond. Just wait 10 years when you have your own medical practice and you start getting people stiffing you on the bill. They probably found your location via Google.

Touche, and a fair point. I wont try to defend piracy with any real heart - I accept it's wrong even if the end justifies the means ('end' being good software, 'means' being fracturing a few rules)

I had a crack on my screen, it wasn't too bad and I took it to a repair place to get it fixed and they were ummming and arrring about doing it and I took the phone back and on my way across the room I dropped it and the screen shattered completely... aghhhhhhhhhhh
Then I woke up with rapid breathing and the first thing I thought was "oh thank <censored> it was just a dream/nightmare"...

Samsung did the same when I bought my Galaxy S, they even called me up for some more details about my answers.

this is how you should be running your cellphone bizness:
unlock the damn bootloader
let them have the kernel source
the devs are willing to fix the mess you created with the blur crap
if you need to save money somewhere then fire the whole team that does blur, AND the guy that decided to lock up the bootloader / kernel
go ahead and make like 1 phone that runs win phone 7 so microsoft doesnt come after you a55

Yeah right, I'm sure they just want feedback from people who are actually getting the "full" experience this phone can offer via the laptop dock. But for the people who just wanted a really good phone they don't care to hear about it. Makes me wonder, is there anyone with the "tethering" package getting capped as well? I don't remember anyone specifically pointing that out....

I couldnt care less to be honest, the whole point of this is that yes infomation about you is taken and stored on a gigantic scale, but that info on my credit cards, my store cards my carrier usage and my WP7 isnt available to anyone but the servers they reside on.
That is the fundermental difference between MS and Apple.
you steal my phone ill be pissed off, you steal an iphone and potentially someone could find a lot about my movments.

On a related note, police have been using the iPhone location list (held on the phone itself, unlike wp7) to tie user to location when investigating crimes, tomtom have sold harvested driving data to Dutch police who have used it to set up speed trap stings, and two women have filed a $50mil suit against Google for harvesting their data.(not gonna fly, of course, but interesting none the less) a few days after a similar suit against apple.
As per above post tho, store cards are the big one, hugely intrusive, many hundreds of terrabytes of info every year.

And they make money by sending adds to your phone. In the future if they know where you are they can send adds from nearby shops to your device. Yup you are paying them to send you spam.

Well if they actually get it right then maybe the ads will be helpful.
If I am in the mall to buy a pair of Jean and I get a link sent to my phone telling me that I can get 15% off at this store and 2 for 1 at that store, well good for me and them.
Also I live a vanilla life so who cares; the only people that are worried are the pervs, cheaters, and such that are afraid of getting caught.

Now I wouldn't mind that much as long as it was pertinent to my needs and consistent with my location and timing. How are you getting those ads? Texts?
I've been getting a bunch of spam calls and texts here lately and I do not list my cell number anywhere! So it must be from WP7. Am I right? I mean my number is listed in the donotcall.gov

If you read that article and most importand others like that in the web you will be notice that:
1. Apple - Tracks you and keep the data for a year or more. And the most importand is that
anyone who can get the hands on your phone can see all the places you where
for a year !!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Android - Keeps your data for a week
3. WP7 --Keeps ONLY one record and it replace it with the next one

And still they say the same lie in a recent article in the "Apple's Media Center" aka Engadget blog..
This is a big big problem for me....
If anyone who can have my phone for 1 min can see where i was for the last 6 moths or a year with every detail in map....oh man ...this is bad .
This Orwel Big Brother mutliply x 1000. We have to fight against this.
The big blogs arrount the net have made a kind of omerta on this ...just an article and no more.
Probably the adds (money) from Apple are to big to start a fight ...
But this is not journalism... OK Apple is cool ..but where is your integridy as writer or as big internet blog ????
Where are all those guys that tear apart MS or any other company for minors problem ????
Thats the problem for me...Apple did this without anyone knows about it and is still deny it.

Good choice of reading,,,, there's a good editorial on theregister about the legality of even collection, let alone using data harvested from a phone, since it is covered by different laws than, say, a computer, since it falls under the telecommunications act

u'd be surprised , but its not voluntarily done , its the law in the usa they have to track you by telecommunication act 1996 , in effect from 2001 , a phone cant be sold in usa if it doesnt comply

I will have to try to do some reading on that act, thanks for the info.
But even though it is something mandated doesn't mean that the OS makers Apply, Google, and Microsoft are just doing it because of that. Trust me there are hidden agendas here with this whole location tracking thing be it from the government or the private sector.

Just an update on apples reaction ...Its a big problem for them sinse the are ready (so soon)
to release a new version of iOs to fix the location problem...
If am not mistaken its the first time that apple has reacted so fast on problem...
