Same old problem - Digitizer ? - HD2 General

I have HD2 , it was used from another person and this person told me that he is experiencing non responsive digitizer from time to time . I was thinking that with digitizer change everything will be OK , yes but NO . No i have changed this phone digitizer and it is not working again
My question is : Is there a way to check this new digitizer ? A lot of people said that it was related to the power button , but i doubt that , maybe is loose connection somewhere or re flow must be done on the screen connector on board ?

Need more info really, is it socket or solder ? did you have any improvement with new digitizer for a while or is it exactly the same symptoms as old one ?
Some of the cheap digitizers are rubbish in terms of QC so plenty of bad ones get sent out.
Bad connection of socket or solder to LCD can cause issues & so can bad fitting of lcd ribbon to mainboard, have seen a few which needed tweaking to get lcd to mainboard connection good so digi worked. Check mainboard connector carefully as if clamp bar broken or plastic cracked on top of connector as they break very easy in the wrong hands.
Worth checking button board too as have had one HD2 that would have digi issues & faulty button board was causing it .

[Q] is the LCD broken?

Hey guys,
I have a problem. A week ago I dropped my hd2 and the screen was smashed. I took it to the service and they replaced the digitizer. Now, as it turned out the lcd displays badly and the say it has to also be replaced. I know that after the drop the lcd worked fine. Now it looks like this: http://img857.imageshack.us/i/imag0001u.jpg
My question is - is this broken lcd? it has to be removed? or can I do something with it? is it the fault and they've done something wrong?
Thanks for answers.

Unless they just haven't connected the LCD properly (very unlikely), there's definitely a problem with it... I'm afraid I think it'll have to be replaced.
in turkey if there is a digitizer problem they change the whole screen.
Under the TMOUS warranty they will replace your phone if an issue comes up like that because it's usually just an unlucky roll of the dice if your LCD does that.
because your problem seems to occur after a mechanical shock, i would suspect 2 scenarios.
1. You have a bad connection between the display flex connector and phone's motherboad. This can either be caused by motherboard display connector failure, some small pins on that connector got busted when the phone was either dropped or once the digitizer was changed. I give pretty small chances for this to have happened.
2. If you see a phone lcd stripped down of it's housing, you will notice that on the bottom part of it (or lateral one on some displays) you can see a flex cable coming from the display's glass-like surface to the back of it. It sits pretty tight around one edge of the screen. It connects the TFT matrix to the processing part (column&row controllers) on the back of the display (or on the flex cable/phone motherboard .. ). If a phone is hit from one side, the case and display housing can press hard on this flex cable and break it, or puncture it. In this case, some of the signals needed to drive some specific areas of the tft matrix aren't getting to the matrix itself so you see some lines on the screen (plus color rendering errors). Sometimes, improper manipulation of the screen when assembling back the phone can also cause the problem.
I give more chances to this scenario.
If number 1 could be fixed by a simple phone disassemble and connector checking, number 2 will indeed require a new display as there isn't any way to service that broken flex cable.
My previous posts about display problems tried to focus on "naturally occurring" problems, not ones induced by electric/mechanical shocks. So in this case, my above scenarios will be more suited as likely suspects for your problem.

[Q] broken lcd flex cable connector on motherboard!

I need help with broken lcd flex cable connector on motherboard!
I want to now is another connector fits for Trophy
Nothing?
Nobody knows any solution?
I had this happen on my Touch Pro2, but the cable still worked fine after inserting it. Maybe try a bit of electrical tape on top? I don't know if the facing side on the Trophy connector (the side that is broken has any data carry over or not?)
It's some pretty high level damage to do either way.
I try, but not work.
I hate to say it, your out of luck. :/ Unless you can find someone that can do awesome high level soldering and has access to the parts to replace it... that's it. HTC might repair it at a cost, since the phone isn't under warranty anymore, but you'd have to contact them and ask them if they would and what the price would be.
I buy one with broken LCD and Touchscreen and now I have a working Trophy.
Only thing is to change stock ROM with custom ROM.

Hit some problems during screen replacement

Just bought a new screen for a cracked hd2 and hit some problems. Firstly, its a uk hd2, so it was a solder connection, i bought the screen + digi from ebay and noticed it was a ribbon connection (not sure if that will make a difference). When undoing these plastic clips
http://imgur.com/Faiyig3
Both broke. They were so brittle, has anybody seen/heard of a way to fix this? I put it all back together and the screen does come on, but touch doesnt work.
Can anybody tell me what these cables do? Is one for touch, what about the other?
Gutted about my hd2, its been going so well all these years...is it fixable?
Not good :-/
those 2 clips: one is the flex ribbon connector & other is the LCD ribbon connector.
The ribbon from LCD also is feed for digitizer.
Not sure if the locking arms are replaceable by themselves ! will look at an old mainboard & see.
you may get some function by bending a very light V in the ribbon so point of v is ribbon contact face & thus pushes tighter in socket promoting better contact.
putting a bit of tape on back may help too! be careful though as actual socket is very fragile too ...

Tell me about it, thanks for explaining what the ribbon connectors do...I couldn't understand why the screen would turn on if the connector was broke. That's a good idea about slightly bending the cable, I will try that tomorrow afternoon. If i could swap them out, that would be awesome.
Thanks for answering, I appreciate you talking time to help a fellow hd2 fan!
Have made none working digitizer work via creating very light v shape bend in middle of contact area (bending across width of cable)
Do be gentle though ... not sure how successful it will be without clamp though :-/

how did they break? i'm going to attempt this myself soon and would appreciate any advice on getting the clips open safely.

[Q] Replaced cracked digitizer with new, now no touch. Help?

Hey, I finally just finished replacing the broken digitizer on my T-Mobile HD2 with a new one I bought online. I turned it on after reassembling and it booted up like normal, but now there's no touch
Is there anything I can try to resolve this? Or is my phone officially dead?
Hard to give an easy answer on this.
Could be a bad digitizer or could be issue in the fitting.
You need check the connections & this should of all been done prior to building it back up.
You will have to pop the chassis out & need check mainboard to LCD ribbon first off & try reseating it to see if digi function can be regained.
Always best to to test new Digi prior to build up as a PITA if don't due to bonding it all together.
I test mine with just mainboard with a spare button board connected & lcd/digi stuck in the ribbon port all laid out flat on a desk (main ribbon not needed) & attach a battery by hand & press the end key button & hope it boots & then lcd/digi can be reviewed prior to final build up.
Favourite cause of no digi is damage to the mainboard LCD connector due to bad handling.
The digi connector to lcd also needs to be checked if no other faults or reseating of lcd/mainboard flex helps :-S
May need get another digi prior to writing other things off as some of these cheap digi units are bad due to dirt cheap manufacture & no QC plus anyone stating tested prior to shipping is talking bull so don't rule out you got a dud digi ...

Thanks for the tips. I opened up the phone again and went through all of the connections. Everything looks fine to me, no cracks in the tapes or anything as far as I can tell. It's probably the digitizer that was sent but I'm not willing to sink another $15 on it to find out
bit of a shame ...
If you decide to break it for parts & it the TMOUS version I could be interested in the mainboard ...

[Q] HTC HD2 Touch replacement issue.

Hi guys..
I am new here kindly help me as this is my first msg in xda developer.
Ok let me start, I bought htc hd2 which had a touch problem only.. rest of the components are working fine. Now the issue is that i went to market for touch replacement but the shopkeeper said that this version of htc hd2 is very critical as the prints of touch pannel is not matching with other htc hd2 versions.. They replaced the whole pannel with lcd but it didn't work
Kindly tell me any help..
I am using tmobile version of htc hd2
Does not matter what version when replace with LCD as only difference is the solder & socket type connector used between lcd & digi.
All types will work on all models of HD2 when installed as LCD/digitizer set with no exceptions ...
I have done more than 30 HD2 digitizers & swapped LCDs & digitizers across model variants & had no issues.
If it not working they either had bad replacement parts or LCD ribbon connector on mainboard is damaged ...
Hi there,
First sorry for my bad english.
I have similar problem. Last weekend I replaced touch screen + digitizer. Everything went nice, everything works fine after assembly, but... sometimes digitizer did not respond. Usually it happens when I tried unlock the screen. Sometimes work immediately but sometimes I have several times press OFF button then tried to unlock. If screen not responding again OFF and ON. After several attempts it's works normal. Rarely happens during the normal operation, mainly when tried to unlock after wake up. What could be causing this? Faulty digitizer?
HD2 running original latest WM6.5 (firmware 3.14).

Could indeed be bad digitizer or perhaps bad button board or perhaps less than perfect connection on either digi to lcd or lcd to mainboard ...

Thanks for quick answer.
LCD & Digi I was bought is 60H00300 (socket one). Previous one (original factory) was soldered. I carefully disassembly and assembly and is 100% working except the digi sometimes not. But when I assembly everyting I do not apply double sided adhesive tape because simply I don't have at this moment (just yesterday I bought). Should I disassembly again, check connection lcd to digi and apply adhesive tape? It makes sense to do this? Is adhesive tape really that important?

So what holding lcd/digi assembly in if no adhesive tape present ?
It is possible some movement from your non adhesive assembly is causing the flex cable to have improper movemnt/stress thus intermittent connection.
Personally I would by another button board ribbon as only $2USD & with that it allows easy testing of device while open & assembly laid side by side plus if button flex is suspect you will have replacement in hand.
I would suspect a bad connection or if unlucky you got a bit of a faulty new lcd/digi assembly
since yours is new phone, they should just replace the whole set, should be still under warranty.

It's not under warranty. Phone is 2009 and I got it from my friend. Digitizer stop responding about two years ago and my friend rather than throw it through the window he gave it to me So I just replaced the screen & digi. Thats the story

I heard that HTC T-mobile has larger dimensions than normal HTC, and i think the LCD will also be bigger. Is it true?

Digitizer & LCD is 100% same size on all models with no exceptions.
The T-Mobile HD2 US version is 1.5mm longer but that is in the polymer housing at bottom of device under keys & screens are 100% same as I have swapped them & personally own a US T-Mobile HD2 & EU standard HD2
This info & more can be found in HD2 Wiki ...
