Depends on the model of the phone. .. not the modem... believe only D802 global version had fm radio built in

My D802 international had FM Radio on the stock LG rom.
Since moving to Cyanogenmod I've obviously lost the FM Radio.
I did try extracting the APK file from my stock rom with Titaniumbackup but it doesn't install back onto Cyanogenmod and that was the limit of my testing/ability.

You have to root for it. I did it also. Due to law in Turkey they disable the radio apk from system. All what you need is to root your device and after it download a root file manager. Than you have to change the names in system/app folder from LGFM_Radio.apk to LGFM_Radio.apk and the LGFM_Radio.odex to FM_Radio.odex and reboot your device. Voila your Fm Radio application is there
Or you must to download and flash the open european firmware 80210A. But in both cases your waranty will void.

The LG G2 isn't supported by Spirit FM officially.
It would be nice to have the LG FM stock application available for AOSP / CM based ROMs.
Maybe @sefnap could help again?

I've toyed around with the FM radio briefly and it appears that certain models are BLOCKING the installation of the FMRadio.apk. I have the Verizon model, but I can't even install the app, manually move it to /system/apps, or make it anyway appear as an app.
No one is even sure that the FM radio is disabled in the other variants... just that the software is blocking the launcher app (I know it isn't preinstalled on some models too).
So perhaps all variants have the FM Radio chip, but it seems LG went to great lengths to keep specific models from using it in software. If the hardware was cut, why not let people at least install the app? To me, it seems they broke the FMRadio via software. And hopefully we can find a way to make it work.
@mchlbenner here's the FMradio APK that I pulled from the stock LG rom with TitaniumBackup. It doesn't let me install it using CyanogenMod though.

They do all have it. The Snapdragon 800 has FM radio hardware built in. Different models may or may not have the pins connected to anything, though.

this is an apk in a zip file... first extract it and you will be able to get another installer error... which is because it's missing classes.dex (which basically contains all code).
funny thing: i had the exact same problem when i tried porting the quickremote and i still have no clue what's the problem.
I'm downloading a system dump right now, which takes about 2 hours with my slow connection, and then i'll try a few things to make it work.
i don't think i will have success though...
maybe sefnap, who is much more experienced than i am, can do it.
edit: i am so stupid -.- just ignore what i wrote about the missing classes.dex...
update: got it to install and run, now i have to get fm working, which is the hardest part of all
doesn't look very good:
Code:
E/AudioHardwareALSA(206): int* android_audio_legacy::AudioHardwareALSA::getCallStateForVSID(uint32_t): Invalid vsid:0
E/AudioHardwareALSA(206): bool android_audio_legacy::AudioHardwareALSA::routeCall(int, int, uint32_t)(): Error, mCurCallState=0x0 is NULL
you can play with the app a bit if you like:

BUT: FM DOES NOT WORK! INSTALL JUST FOR TESTING!

I am currently using an unlocked rooted (stock recovery) Bell Version of the D803 (D803B20e software version) on the Rogers network. If I want to convert my phone to a Rogers version of the ROM (no Rogers bloat needed), can I just modify my build.prop or do I need to download the Rogers version of the ROM and flash it using LGMOBILEAX?
Reasoning is I would like to be able to download the knock code unlock feature which Rogers is rolling out just now.
Thanks
So it doesn't work like that, there's differences to each phone performed by the telephone companies (mostly for which radio bands the phone can use). Anyway the knock on and off feature can be supported by any phone. One way is to install something like Xposed and then using a feature enhancing tool like Gravity box (you can find it on the forum). The other option is installing a ROM that has this feature in it. Quite a few do (such as SlimKat)

Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression all Canadian D803s had the exact same ROM with the exception of the build.prop which makes them appear as different phones, and respective bloatware. Am I wrong in this then?
I would prefer to keep the stock ROM, and I have Xposed installed. I will check and see if there is a knock code feature in any of the G2 Xposed modules in the mean time.
Thanks

Ohh I'm not sure on that specific model or Canadian phones in general, entirely possible you're right. Still though it sounds like a risky change, if information isn't readily available I personally wouldn't do it. Straight software options should be far safer. Anyway good luck!

Hi all, just came to the S5. My carrier (in my case, Bluegrass Cellular) is a carrier partnered with Verizon's LRA Rural LTE program.
More info can be found here. http://www.verizonwireless.com/news/2012/05/4g-lte-goes-live-in-rural-america.html
https://opennetwork.verizonwireless...s-modules/devices/SMG900R6_GalaxyS5_2808.html
This thread is intended to help others with this variant of the S5.
I thought I would take the lead in helping the small community with this phone looking to root and run custom roms as we did in the S4 thread in the Verizon S4 Help/QA Thread.
* our other thread for the S4, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453312 *
We get our LTE phones from Verizon, and they are close-nearly clone variants of their original Verizon version. For example, for the Galaxy S4 I just moved from, SCH-545 (VZW) VS SCH-I545L (LRA) which even had an identical partition table. This s5 variant is in many ways equal to the Verizon dev edition. Also further evidence to support a mostly Verizon clone these phones share the same fcc id, a3l-smg900v
Status: What I've tried so far.
Root: Geohot's Towelroot worked successfully.
RECOVERY: UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER! use twrp or cwm whatever you please.
Kernel: I use ktoonsez kernel. Works perfectly. Highly recommended, this guy's work is amazing.
Custom ROM: installed and working! VZW custom roms work. If you guys want to try Verizon roms, just edit build prop to lra info, you can find it thread.. Just remember to restore apn aswell and it works perfectly. You can use kitkat TW roms like Alliance rom, OptimalROM, extreme syndicate etc.. some aosp roms work with (patch not needed) some roms have unexplained issues..i dont know what to do about them. Remember to flash kernel of choice (highly recommend ktoonsez) after rom aswell. Have fun!
I will update as I go along, anyone can feel free to post. Welcome any and all who have this phone for any questions.

I tried Alliance slimhyde and extreme syndicate. I think They have problems with our firmware tho. Works mostly, apns are restorable , but have issues with Android.com.phone wakeup, can't figure out but it causes high system drain. If you're OK with less than stock battery life, try it. So does each LRA carrier release software updates at different times? I'm on NF2 as well. Will root cause update errors?

The lra carriers should release all at once, updates are pushed from Samsung. Root can cause errors but you can unroot and restore system changes. It will block ota alerts tho, but I have an Xposed module that bypasses the root check so I'll still get notified of an update. Safestrap backups also help out a ton, so you can make a stock system backup to restore later etc.

i did, says nothing about boot. everything else is ok. as far as testing the build prop, easiest way is probably to make a backup, and install build.prop editor app. it will create a romtoolbox folder on phone, then in that folder you should see build prop backups. paste it in there, open up app and restore it.
Hey guys
Has anyone tried to use a GSM Sim card? US or international, to test GSM capabilities of this model? Technically this phone should be an unbranded, unbloated Verizon model, which is SIM unlocked for US/Intl. carriers, unless the software restricts it.
Since our carriers use band 13 LTE like Verizon, it has to be unlocked.
I'm just curious what LTE bands it has.

Looks like the wishes of many here have been heard.
Looks like the radios locked out via software might get an official switch on. No way for the hardware hacks to be reversed. At least new handsets will have it baked in.
Now if T Mobile did the same with the H811 model, life would be better lol..

I tried with a H811, doesn't work with NextRadio.
Apparently it is just a request:
Update: We've since learned that this isn't as strict as it sounds -- it's a request from AT&T, not a rule. If an Android phone maker declines to include FM, it won't get the boot.

For FM radio to work, an antenna is necessary. I am not sure the G4 had the right antenna.

I am planning on buying a S5 if and only if it supports FM and only variant of it that seem to have it enabled is G900P (which is not distributed in Canada obviously as it's Sprint). I am pretty sure, just by installing FM apk it won't work!
I also want to know if FM works independent of Sprint network ?

Youre welcome! well, i knew it had an FM tuner in it, just perplexed me about the hardware error without the headphones plugged in. I knew it wouldnt get any stations without the headphones as they serve as the antenna, but the error i got was just odd. It is nice to have in a pinch, but i loathe FM LOL!!!

i dont have the regular apk, so i havent tried it. But one would have to think that it would work with the regular apk if it works with other fm apks
Your Firmware is Latest Ver?
If not, "Samsung Firmwares", Search for your Region Code
(Example, My region is "ZTO", Search for Model that you Have, Latest Firmware in 6.0.1, And Flash , Format All in Phone via Odin, Exclude "T Flash and Re-Partition)
And try to use a Radio Apk
You can Flash Worldwide G900P for Your region if is a Unlocked Variant (For me, Is a TIM Variant, G900M Unlocked, i Just Flash WW Firmware to get Off TIM Apps, But Don´t Have Radio
:/ )
Anyone thought about doing a stock kernel for the US996 that enables the FM radio? I think there are some other libs needed too. I'm willing to test if someone can come up with a flashable zip for it. I'd build it myself if I had the slightest idea how.
Any ideas anyone?
Will your us996 unlock the software is us99610a ?? Are not used lg bridge check update ?? show (can not check the software version try again)
Thx
I have been trying as well with fm related files from tmobile based rom postings, but no luck yet. To answer hehelle, lg bridge reports it cannot check software. Hopefully it is due to no update and not fact that the phone is unlocked / rooted (cutting off all future updates).
Mine says software version US99610d, I've got the carrier unlocked version. Didn't come with FM radio installed. Updates says nothing new yet.

Same software version here and no FM radio. Also I'm missing the option to always hide my phone number when calling. From searching, I see that many of the carrier locked versions have this option. Any idea how I can get it on the US996? Will rooting the phone allow me to enable this option?
Just rooting won't enable that, I think. That said, I have that setting on mine and it works. I had to go into dialer settings ( from the dialer) and then try Additional settings at the bottom of the list. I had to go in and out a few times to get it to read, but it does work.

Really? I'm missing the Additional Settings. Does this have to do with not yet having a carrier? (I have no SIM card in my US996 yet. Haven't decided on a carrier.) May I ask what carrier and plan you ended up going with?
Yeah, not having a SIM card in would probably affect that. I'm on straight talk with a 'bring your own phone' ATT banded SIM. The rates aren't bad and it works pretty much everywhere. I got the unlimited plan.

I have the unlocked version and am running it on T-Mobile. It does have the block phone number setting but NO FM radio. Also have to "unhide" the wi-fi calling feature as it does NOT appear in settings.

So there is wifi calling for tmobile on the unlocked version, you just have to use an app to search for it? That is huge for me as I will just order the unlocked open box off BH and save $100.
If your your rooted and have twrp you can flash this zip, found it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/rom-natf-1-00-test-5-debloated-stock-t3509750

It IS important! Download "Quick Shortcut Maker." Search for wi-fi calling and create a shortcut icon. You'll see it under "Call Services." Seems to work perfectly!!

I have tmobile s7 edge and it has no option to block number. So this is an LG thing? Cool. I remember my old IPhone 3G had this.

Negative.
I have flashed this with stock rooted and now a deodexed test rom and can't get the FM radio to "turn on" - also the FM radio service crashes.
We need something more than the APKs flashed in TWRP. =(
Works well for me on LS997 model LGV20
I flashed my phone with this custom rom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/rom-ls997-stock-debloated-su-goodies-t3531923
then using twrp in recovery mode, I did 'install' and chose the fm radio zip in this thread.
After I booted the phone again, I can confirm the fm radio app starts okay, and the FM radio itself turns on successfully when I have my headphones plugged in. All looks great!
Thanks!
Hrm, has anyone tried this on the VS995 with one of the custom kernels?
