Factory Resets do not remove encryption with TWRP recovery. It will reset the phone like normal, but the encryption will still remain.
I am looking to try and remove encryption entirely so I can install 4.4 and CWM Recovery. I've heard you have to flash to stock but I don't know what packages, where to get them, and which way I should flash them. Any help is appreciated.

You need to use the FORMAT DATA option, which will wipe the entire device, if you still get asked for password after that, flash factory image.
Flash the stock recovery....

I had an Encrypted HTC One that I installed TWRP Recovery. TWRP could not decrypt the phone and the phone would not factory reset. Fixed by using Fastboot to flash the stock recovery and then was able to factory reset my phone.
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Got the Sprint stock recovery image from viperboy (I'm too new to post links) the file name is: Sprint_One_stock_recovery.img
Search XDA with this file name you you will find it.
Too late for you I'm sure but maybe it will help some others.

How do I do this? No access to /sdcard in recovery mode, can't even wipe the phone from recovery. How can you install a new ROM when the phone is encrypted? Running CWM.
EDIT: Will a factory data reset get rid of the device encryption and enable me to install the updated ROM from recovery mode? I don't mind losing the data.

I am pretty sure that you can use twrp on an encrypted device.
Hi,
I have G935F, installed TWRP 3.0.0.0 and rooted, WITHOUT wiping. System boots correctly, but I cannot do factory reset or wipe with TWRP, because I got some messages like "Cannot mount Data" and "Failed crypto loader". I understand that it has to do with encryption. Can someone please enlight me, and give me tips about the issue?
Thank you

You have to download dm-verity and force encryption disabler from here , put it to SD card, reboot into TWRP, FORMAT DATA (not wipe) and flash that file (dm-verity and force encryption disabler). All your data will be erased.
No way to unencrypt without loosing you data for the moment(
"All your data will be erased" means that after boot I'll find a clean system installation (as factory reset)?
I hope not to be posing stupid questions, I'm completely new to this world
Thank you very much
Yes just as a factory reset

No, you cannot perform a backup, because your data is encrypted by default and the only way to disable it is to format your data.
I have a unique problem. I have a HTC Desire 612 from Verizon and I decided to revive it to playe PoGo. But it was stuck in a boot loop and I couldn't get any custom ROM.
Finally a gentle soul here gave me the stock rom and I flashed it vide TWRP and played PoGo for weeks. Then yesterday the phone bro led and when it came up it was stuck in a boot loop.
So I decided to flash the stock ROM again. But before that I tried to factory reset. I could go to TWRP, select wipe data, enter yes and the wiping was successful, then clear dalvic and cache and system beforehand finally I flashed the stock ROM.
Surprise surprise is NOTHING happens. The phone boots without the apps telling me they are installing. Then I get back the exact same data in my phone including my selected wallpaper and apps. Before I can do anything the phone restarts.
Point is wiping and restoring the stock ROM does NOTHING to the phone yet the processes are successful. Can somebody help?

It really is about TWRP failing to wipe
Hi, I keep seeing that some people brick their phones due to the changes in the process. Question, Due to some battery drainage I am getting, I am trying to do a phone reset.
I currently have TWRP installed and rooted the phone using the jccuando method. What is the best way to reset the phone to factory so I can re-root again and do what I need to do without bricking? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Definitely boot to twrp via hardware keys or a boot to recovery app.. Do not do it from the settings menu. It will put you into twrp bootloop until you boot from the hard keys anyway. Just remember to flash supersu after you factory reset before you boot or you'll have to boot back into twrp again and flash it.

Thank you so much. So I see I can get to twrp no problem. What to do inside twrp before I bootloop or do I need to reset factory before I get to twrp? Then what to do after I am in a bootloop ?

If you used the method I told you there should be no bootloop. Just got to the section wipe and slide the slider for a factory reset. Then afterwards press back and go to your external sd and flash supersu again then reboot it will reboot twice after you flash supersu so don't worry.

Thank you. I actuallt just got done. I did factory reset instead and booted up fine. I took your advice and flashed supersu after the factory reset and i am all good now. I wonder the difference between factory reset and the format data. I was a little scared to factory reset so it woud not erase the rom.

Format data erases all user data. Factory reset erases all but internal storage. So data format is more extensive.

Hi, did everything with no problem. I got another question and not sure if you have the answer. I was hoping to re-lock the bootloader again. Do you know of a way to do that and get the phone to boot up to the system? I am trying to avoid the bootloader reboot message after turning on the phone! Thank you for all your help!

Do not relock unless you're pure stock no twrp or modded boot img. The annoying message will always be there.

Sweet. I have been looking at the forum and everything says tarp has to be installed and running . I'll keep looking. Thank you sir .
Absolutely do not re-lock your bootloader unless you are 100% stock. If you brick the phone with a locked bootloader, you are screwed.
I have a P550 tablet, using Odin i installed stock Rom but it did not format, it did not delete everything in it. Using stock recovery factory reset does not work either.
School It managers disabled entering settings, so i guess they did something to tablet not format inside but i flash Rom still cant format it. How can i fresh install stock Rom?

Just factory reset in recovery. That's all you need to do to go back to factory fresh.
You dont need to do anything else, not sure what you're expecting other than that?

I learned there is a security program, wmware watch in the tablet, it does not permit to factory reset. I can flash Rom but i dont know why flashing rom does not erase things.

I've never heard of such a thing and there's no reason for it to exist. Are you sure you have used factory reset in recovery?
Flashing a rom does not wipe the data partition.
You need to factory reset in recovery to do this.

Yes I'm aware of mdm, but have only ever come across this on demo devices.
But that's not what you posted.
Also it is only stock recovery that implements mdm.
If you install twrp then factory reset using twrp it will remove the restriction.
That is the only way I know how. However this may require OEM unlock enabled, of which it seems you can't do.
I can still boot into twrp but can't get OOS to run. It's asking for a factory reset but don't I have to be in OOS to do that?
You need to flash stock firmware and wipe via stock recovery, backup userdata first
I figured it out, thanks.
