Hi all,
I'm a newbie to Android, not to mention rooting and flashing with ROMs, please bear with me if I ask too many noobie questions.
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9508 from China, and I reside in Australia. While I am able to connect to Australian networks, I've noticed three distinct phenomena:
1. No surprises that all google-related apps are blocked.
2. Battery life when not on flight mode barely lasts 7 hours on light usage, but can last up to 4 days when on flight mode.
3. My phone is miles faster when on flight mode.
I'm not certain what is wrong with the battery but I am convinced that somehow the firmware from China has something to do with it. I thought the best solution to all three issues would be to flash the S4 with an official 9505 ROM (Vodafone) downloaded from Sammobile via ODIN, but ODIN continuously gives a failure message prior to any progress bars appearing in the dwm on the phone.
My question is, am I doing anything obviously wrong so far? I am reluctant to use custom ROMs such as cyanogen, but if I have to, I will.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, and many thanks up front.
Alex.
any luck
Any luck? just got given the phone. wondering if cyanogenmods work.

did you tried to download the latest stock rom for your device here?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9508&pcode=0#firmware
I don't believe a different stock rom from a different device works for you with all features and with no issues...
After update you can try to root it with vroot or cfautoroot and try to delete apps and fix Google Apps...

Hello all,
I just inherited a Samsung GT-S5360L phone from my father and i wanted to try some roms. Some of the available roms seem pretty cool, but i have noticed a small detail, my phone model ends with an L, and the roms available dont.
This is probably because my cellphone is a southamerican model. So, My main question is, what should i check before flashing a rom into my S5360L in order to avoid problems?
I am mainly worried about loosing the 3G signal (or the whole phone signal) if i flash an incorrect rom. I read some posts that said that i should use a specic CSC.
Can anyone explain to me a litle more about this? Do i need to flash the ROM and my original CSC files in order for the rom to work with my operators, or the process is different?
Thanks in advance.
Solution!
Sir,
You must have bought your Galaxy Y with some Carrier! That why it end with a "L", But that does not matter! To prevent bricking ur phone just follow the correct installation instruction.. If you brick your GY there is a guide in the general section to restore back! Make a Nandroid Backup first of all and then Flash GT-S5360 Firmware (The one preferred in the Rom's installation guide I hope this helps! As much as I know, all roms will work :fingers-crossed:

to ensure installation success please download "Galaxy Toolbox" by doky in the playstore and unlock your network (if it is sim/carrier locked)
then follow all instructions provided by the rom authors to ensure success,
if in case all else fails just reflash to a stock rom via odin, not to worry since any stock rom will do
thanks for the information guys. I know any rom should work, i do it in mi LG Optimus2x but i had a samsung phone before (galaxy spica) and i had some troubles after flashing some custom roms, where i would only be able to have 2G signal and not 3G, or in some cases have no connectivity at all. I will give some roms a try and see how everyhting goes (and do a backup first, hehehe).
thanks again.
So I am from Canada and picked up the exynos version from a Korean seller on ebay.
Model number sm-n910K I actually have a huge problem. When wifi is turned on phone will reboot whilst in sleep mode after about 5 minutes if I turn off wifi it works fine. Note this happens even if I am not connected to a network the radio just has to be enabled. I am out of options I might rma it to the Korean seller but I think I might have to open a case with ebay, as these guys are being very difficult here is a video attached. I filmed it for 5 minutes but only recorded the last minute. http://youtu.be/ahLB0A2pCOM any help would be super appreciated thanks guys. I am at a loss whether this is software ie corrupt modem from improper driver installation at factory or just a faulty modem things I have tried already.
1. factory reset + cash wipe
2. Reinstall firmware using kies
3. turned off automatic scanning
4. turned off download booster.
The only thing that works is keeping wifi off. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

Have you tried flashing with Odin?
Hey, I also have the SM N910K. What network are you using it on?
I have that version as well without that issue. Can you grab a picture of your About device specs?
Hello there i got same version SM-N910K i didn't have that issue with wifi , but i got battery drain , i live in uk and the phone keep searching for LTE- A ,
N910C with the Samsung SoC
I have the same Issue, i live in the US, I was in Malaysia and manage to get a N910C with the Samsung CPU, when I set the network to LTE/WCDM/GSM (autoconnect) it keeps serching for 4g networks, and it does not switch to lower networks even if available, which causes a huge battery drain, i had to set it down WCDM/GSM for it to get data. I did not have this issue with my note 3 which i also got in Malaysia last year, btw, the note 3 came with qualcomm cpu, and that leads me to believe there is a problem with the modem on the samsung SoC.

Hi! i found a solution where you can force your phone to go to GSM Only, WCDMA only or your preferred network type. In your dialer app type: 319712358. It will ask for a password and the password is 774632. And voila you can now choose what type of network you want to use. This will help with the battery drain.
Hi everybody..im from south korea. I have sm-n910k.

can you share the 910K stock flashable kernel and modem link?
Hello all.
I am having some issues with my Galaxy S4.
I have read through a lot of the signal loss threads the last couple of days.
But I'll explain why those were not helpful to me.
I started by rooting my phone with cf auto root jfte.
Via Odin 3.10.
I then installed twrp and some cm roms.
And experimented with a few different roms and software.
I wasn't bothered about bricking my phone.
I think I did soft brick it a few times but thanks to the help from xda threads I got it back a few times. So thanks for that guys.
Now I am running an official EE rom and modem.
Everything works perfectly and smoothly I am no longer rooted.
But no longer have any signal.
The imei is in tact.
The sim is being read by the phone and also knows what network it's supposed to be on etc.
The phone can search and see the networks sometimes but cannot register on them.
I did try an app while I was patting about with roms called region lock away. As some people said it can some times network unlock the phone.
And it seemingly did with mine.
However a few roms later and I cannot revert whatever it done.
Any ideas on how I can get my signal back would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks.
Andy.
Can anyone assist with this?
Hi All,
New to the forums, new to android, and new to phone modification. I've unfortunately been iPhone for the last 6 years (3GS, 4s and 5s). With my contract coming to an end I wanted to go contract free with a sim only deal and have bought a note 3.
I've been doing sum reading, well a lot actually, and there's conflicting information coming from limitless sources across the web. So as this forum seems to be the highest regarded I was hoping you guys with the knowledge could help me out. I'm semi-handy with a computer and as long as there's a fairly decent guide out there I'm happy I can root my phone and install a rom without too much hassle.
My question is what is the definitive recommended modifications for a note 3? I'm a fairly heavy user and run my entire life from my phone. 90% of my gaming, all of my communication (calls, texts and emails) as we don't own a house phone, all of my banking, 50% of my film/TV watching, all of my book reading etc etc and what I'm after is a rom that'll strip away any bloatware, improve the speed of the device to the max and hopefully extend battery life.
And if there any other additions everyone recommends that'd be welcome as well!!
Is there a group decided upon definitive mod list? Thanks in advance! Should mention my device is UK-N9005 4G LTE and is network free but will most likely be having a giff gaff (O2) sim.
I'd recommend you to use AryaMod ROM. It's based on Stock Lollipop with loads of customizations (mods).
The ROM thread has all instructions to guide you.
And you'll have to flash TWRP first and after installing the ROM (via the steps in the thread), you can search and download Lean Kernel 6.3 (which is again a thread in Development forum) and flash via TWRP and it gives good battery life.
Cheers dude. Do I need the rom and the kernel together?
So flash twrp, then rom, then twrp again, then the kernel ?
Yes. Read the ROM thread carefully. After installing TWRP via ODIN. You'll need to push 2 files via ODIN again. And you're good to flash the ROM. All the files are in ROM thread. All you need is to install Samsung drivers and download TWRP for N9005 from twrp.me
I think isn't necessary to change the kernel of this rom...
AryaMod is good, Darklord is good.
The problem, if you start, never stop ! kkkkk

If you use your phone very heavily, like i do. I would always suggest an official rom as you are sure to have a stable device.
I am on giffgaff in the uk too.
Find the latest BTU, UK rom from sammobile.com and flash it with odin v3.10.7
If you are on windows 8.1 and above, the samsung usb drivers will come up in windows update after plugging the phone in atleast once, be sure to install them and restart your machine before going into download mode and flashing the latest rom.
If you want to root.. update the firmware like that and flash TWRP then SuperSU in recovery. This will obviously trip your knox to 0x1
If you need any help i will provide the links you need.

cheers everyone, received the phone in the mail today so going to try this rooting business first so I have nothing to lose if I balls up. I haven't put my sim card in it yet, do I need to prior to rooting or can I do it all without inserting my sim?

You can do it all without a sim, after you have rooted.. probably a good idea to do an efs backup and copy it somewhere safe, on your pc or something.

Hi!
I've bought a Galaxy S5 (G900P) from Ebay last year, but I wasn't aware that the Sprint variant is meant for the US. (just realized that now, since I ran into problems). I've used it for almost a year now, running Android 5.1.1 with Cyanogenmod custom ROM on it - here comes the thing - as G900F. (which I just realized aswell, thinking back, and checking screenshots / Windows logs). The About Phone section, the usb drivers in Windows, several other things claimed it was G900F firmware on it - and I was able to use 3g mobile internet on it, was connected to Vodafone Hungary without problems. (turns out I can't use 4g in Europe with this variant, that's my bad). The Recovery mode (used Phil'z) and the Download mode both displayed G900P..I'm not sure what to think now.
The problems started when a few days back, Cyanogenmod announced the 13rd version, and my auto-update on CM12 took its curse, and updated it. The whole thing went smooth, phone rebooted, and instantly got hotter and hotter, draining the battery seriously fast. I've tried several apps, methods, none could help it, so I decided to just stick with Android 6.0.1 (since it came with the CM13).
Through 2 days of suffering and reading forums, pages till my eyes bled out, I managed to have a stock G900P 6.0.1. Android on my phone, it's currently charging, but here comes the fun, I'm not able to get mobile internet (3g). I could connect to Vodafone Hungary somehow, calling, and receiving calls, but there are several other things wrong with the phone like this. I've also tried to revert back to 5.1.1 (even the Stock ROM would be fine, I'd gladly skip on CM12), but Odin failed and failed each and every time.
So my question is: I know it's possible, because I DID have it, but I don't know how to anymore - G900F firmware on a G900P phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(current status - Android 6.0.1 with stock G900P firmware - unrooted / I think/ ; without custom recovery, in Download mode both things say Official)
P.S.: if this subforum isn't the place for a thread like this, I'm asking a mod to please move it to a rightful section, thank you!
