http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/03/google-makes-holo-theme-mandatory/
Does that mean no more TouchWiz crap??? If so, this is the best news that came out this year!
Nope.
"Google*is issuing architectural mandates that will make it dead simple for independent developers to create apps that fit nicely into these customized environments, complete with the proper widgets and colors. In other words, app designers may effortlessly choose between Holo or the manufacturer's default theme when considering the software's interface"
It's the apps. If devs want to distribute their software in the Market, they'll have to use the Holo GUI. The upside about this is that the whole Android ecosystem and apps will be more unified like iOS.
An example of this is Opera Mobile. They are using their own menus, so the structure is nothing like any other apps on Android. From now on they'll have to use Holo so the menus will function and look like any other ICS app. This will make it less confusing for the users, and it will look better.

If anything this means ICS will take forever to arrive.

Its actually the other way round, manufacturers won't bother to put their standardisations and that means faster rollout of vanilla ICS with just custom drivers.
Love you Google!

I was wondering if there exists a mod or extension to relocate the tab bar to the bottom in chrome for Android? Would look great with PA and be more usable on tablets IMO.
OR, implement a slider on the left with your tabs as a list (I forget the name of that UX design, a la g+).
I may try and implement this sometime if none exists.

Are there any hacks/plans on getting multi window support for the 10? That would be sweeeeeet.

I am waiting too. Our nexus with multiwindow could be "la polla"

This can be achieved by apps. Super video is a floating video player, air calc is a floating calculator, floating banner gives you a onscreen menu to start apps and view widgets.
/edit: oh yeah, forgot about floating browser.

I have always wondered why android does everything full screen. On a phone with limited real estate OK I can see that but on a tablet with a lot more real estate why don't we have a more desktop like experience? Ii hope key lime pie bakes in multi window functionality because its quite silly to waste so much space since there are plenty of people who truly like to multitask.

I agree, a multi window mode would be awesome.

Its the app developers that need to implement it, not the rom. The functionality is already built into android.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
But if the app developers dont use this function then what is there to do about it?
Could it be built into the launcher so that all apps will have a frame around it where you can change between full screen and windowed mode? Just like in Windows

??? I get the translation of "La Polla" to be "****" ???
+1 for the option, I would also like my launcher to be split as well. I like to have a 12 x 6 grid of icons, would love the launcher to rotate as two separate 6 x 6 grids
This won't happen until Google makes it in Android. The only way to make it responsibly is to implement it as an opt-in api. But, only Samsung or Google have the clout to make such an API and actually get developers to use it.
CyanogenMod developers wanted to improve Cornerstone but we were literally threatened by a Google employee on Google+. While Cornerstone was exciting at first, I see where the Google employee was coming from. Multiwindow, if done badly, will cause even more fragmentation issues for application developers.

That's right. But in Spain (I don't know if it's the same in South America), it's used as an equivalent of "sweet" or "cool" times one thousand.
It's really common, but not usually used in written form.

Looks like google translate leaves a lot to be desired.
I recently used it to translate the word Preto from Portuguese to English. The results are shocking, I reported it to google
Hey guys, I've heard that the official AOKP ROM for the N10 could be getting multi window in the future. If you head over to the thread some users have asked about it and apparently the devs have plans for it. besides that, its a lightning fast ROM

That's awesome Lol I'm bringing that phrase to America!! "You see the preview for the new Die Hard? That movie looks like the ****!!" Lol
Any app, kernel or ROM support this?
I have a number of apps where I'd like to keep them running in the background, minimised or windowed but keep running, and currently they basically close themselves if I swap to other apps. Examples are Hulu and Slingplayer. I think I know why Hulu behaves like that.... its to try to bully you into watching the commercials, not sure why Slingpayer does it though.
On a desktop OS like Ubuntu or Windows I can just run multiple apps concurrently and they run independently of if on the screen or not. Good for doing something else whilst Hulu plays its commercials.
I've been searching and seems the OS has the hooks but the app must enable itself? Is there a ROM which allows it? OmniROM seems to??
I've only played with stock Android and a few kernels so far.
I got a Nexus 7 I can brick as a playing system til I find a solution to then put on my N10.

See my signature below for a link to a working split-view custom ROM (Tempest). It can be tempermental as it is still a work in progress. For YouTube in split-view use an alternative playstore app called Viral. In my opinion it is better than Google's app anyway as it provides the options users have requested for a long time.
Tried to find appropriate thread but this might be the closest. My N10 is still rooted & running 4.3.1 and I haven't found a compelling reason to update to 4.4.x because of the slew of reported problems others have experienced with their updates. Also I don't want to lose the split window settings menu unique to the larger tablets, which I understand has been lost with 4.4. Has that split menu settings been restored in later updates of 4.4?

Is there an app like sidebar where I could open it just like sidebar but instead of icons it would be all my apps listed? I thought I seen it on a video somewhere with someone using it on a Rom.

Try windows 7 taskbar on the playstore, thats what I use. There are various other taskbars as well, cant really remember at the top of my head, search for them on the playstore they are easy to find
GMD Gesture control will allow you to call launchpads, which are basically floating windows containing apps, using gestures.

Hey everyone!
This phone is awesome but it has IMHO a small fallback which is the lack of some true multitasking capabilities.
What I mean is although we have Qslide it is most probably useless if we can't run any app in it.
Just like Galaxy Note series have the Multiwindow manager app or Spwn window app that allows just any app to run in this mode, we should have this on our G2 with Qslide.
It will be awesome. Just imagine you are playing a game and you get whatsapp so you check it on the go and continue playing. Or browsing the web and you check the gmail you just got without leaving the browser.
BTW that's what I do with Halo on Paranoid android on my Nexus 4. However it's a waste to dumb the awesome stock Rom of the G2 to just get this advantage.
Please devs consider this as a serious and urgent request. I know many want this.
Hope I was a dev, I would have helped but I am willing to test.
Thanks and regards!

Well looks like I was wrong! It looks like nobody wants this feature!
But what is bugging me is that with over 60 views, I didn't get any "+1" or "agreed" replies, or even "no need" or "STFU" replies or any kind of reply.
Have a nice day everyone!
+1. Nice to have Whatsup on the top and scrolling through news for example. Nice feature to get. I am sure someday we can get it. ))
It's probably just a matter of the apps being built for it, and tricking the Qslide into letting you use non LG apps for it.
The Devs did it fairly quickly on my Galaxy Note 10.1
I'm afraid it's not THAT easy for us as it was on the note. I had it on my note 10.1 and it's now available on note 3. Also let's not forget about the half-screen double apps running at same time (i dunno what it's called ); they also modified it to allow any app do that.
Wish it happens anytime soon!

I don't understand why someone would even want qslide when you have the native android multi tasking abilities?
I told you why bro. It's just like Halo if you ever tried it on Paranoid android Roms. The native multitasking requires you to quite one app to be able to use the other.
Qslide (and multiwindow in note) allows you to run an app simultaneously while you are using another app and on top of it.
It's much much more convenient. If you've never tried it I can understand your thoughts!

I can't deny your point at all. Once I tried the Halo from PA I really think this guy bring the multi-tasking to another level by other means. Brilliant feature! Custom ROM with Halo is the first choice of my flashing hobby by then.
However, with LG G2 I would like to stay with the stock. It has really good features with ease to access and use that makes all the things so convenience. I would also like to see very much the implementation of Qslide with any 3rd party apps...or Halo ported to stock ROM since it's open source now
