[Q] Mounting and ADB Sideload Not Working in TWRP - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone,
I've had some serious issues with the G2 since the night I got it. Basically I soft bricked it when I tried to load Cyanogen because it was a version for the 802 and I have the VS980. Now I've finally managed to get back into TWRP recovery, but I do not have a backup of the stock OS. I also am unable to mount the device to my computer to install a clean rom. (I've tried 3 computers, LG drivers, drivers from PDAnet, nothing works). ADB sideload also won't start inside TWRP and I can't get any adb commands to work. When I type adb devices it either shows nothing, or it lists the device as "host" and doesn't allow me to do anything.
Does anyone know any workarounds for these issues? I'm starting to run out of options. When I boot my phone I just get a loop to the screen that says "Secure boot failed." TWRP is the only thing I can get into, but if I can't push any files to the phone, it may as well be bricked. I also can't use the LG manufacture tool to take it back to stock because it doesn't recognize my device as the 980. The LG Mobile support tool also does not work - it just hangs when it attempts to download the firmware.
Would greatly appreciate any input!!

Flash CWM via TWRP. Has loki w/ OTG support. Plug OTG drive with backup on it. Flash. Worth a try.

There would be no way to flash CWM since it wasn't already on the device. Luckily I was able to fix this simply by wiping the whole phone, which wiped out the bad CyanogenMod info and let me factory reset with the LG flash tool.

Derp.... My fault lol. I keep backups of stock recovery and others. Shouldn't assume others do. Nice, odd you couldn't do it to begin with. I keep a virtual Windows XP for dealing with major phone bs like adb, qpst, lgnpst, ect. Just handles these things with more stability. LG Updater and LGNPST seems real finicky with the G2.

[URGENT] Can't access ADB or internal storage in TWRP

I flashed the wrong kernal and I'm stuck on a bootloop. I can't access my internal storage via TWRP or cant use ADB either. ADB isn't recognizing the device. Is there anyway I can come out of this without losing my data on the phone? I can see the g2 listed as Other Devices in my PC's Device Manager while plugged in. I suppose that has something to do with it. Is there some driver I need to use ADB in recovery?

device manager, right click phone, update drivers, browse computer, let me pick from a list, unclick show compatible hardware, and find LGE or LG and pick the adb driver
Yes, I solved it. Got the drivers fixed.
Fun fact : If your G2 is just getting stuck at boot, turn it off for an over and try again. I stupidly flashed a zip containing a recovery using Flashify and not the boot.img and I got stuck in Fastboot mode or it'd just stuck at the boot animation. I had given up and decided to go back to stock, wiping all my photos. But thankfully the stock flash got stuck because I am using a custom kernal. I turned it off, watched some tv and tried again. Booted right back into the rom. Flashed a proper recovery using adb, got into TWRP, reflashed my rom and didn't lose any data. @autoprime got me through the process via IRC so big kudos to him!

[Q] hours for searching for nothing help plz!

I ****ed up my phone today I did full wipe (formatted internal storage too, so i can't flash any rom in recovery because there is nothing) and now i've been searching hours someone who can help me? In TWRP i can't mount anything to my pc (i do not know why?) AND adb says me "devices not found" or something like that so can't push any zip-file to my phone via adb sideload. Is there any way to reapir my phone? can someone help me? Thanks alot!
There was a bug in a bunch of recent twrp releases that causes adb to not work in recovery. Patched versions have been made, try finding one for your device.
Added:
If you can't find a patched version, flash cwm or philz recovery with fastboot, adb is working on both of those. You just need a rrcovery image and do
"fastboot flash recovery <recovery-file>.img"
In fastboot mode.
let's try it out!

See the edit to my first response. Fastboot is done in fastboot mode, not recovery, so you should be good. You just need the basic .img file of cwm or philz recovery.
If you are on win 7 try this:
http://adbdriver.com/downloads/
(Adb driver installer)
Run it when you turn adb sideload on in G2 and connect it to PC.
If it fails you still can go buy somewhere USB OTG cable (few bucks) and flash ROM from usb stick like me.
It appears that accessing fastboot pn the lg g2 is not so simple. Sorta like samsung phone deal, where a manufacturer download is used instead. From what I gather, recovery might need to be wiped to access fastboot, which you could do from terminal in twrp, but thats risky. Apparently, a lot of people have gotten stuck in fastboot mode. Best bet would be to reflash stock firmware through lg download mode. Also see this thread for a method to return to stock firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Once you are back to stock, just reroot and flash revovery, etc.
downloadmode should still work. go back to any kdz for your version
also source and versions post next time

[Q] Lg g2 cwm bootloop?

Since someone accidently updated my rooted g2, i'm stuck in a cwm bootloop.
Whenever i boot the phone it always ends up in cwm.
When i connect the phone to my pc it doesn't detect it no matter what usb driver i install.
Is there anything i can do? (maybe a modified usb driver?)
I'm on windows 8.1 btw...

Ey breezer,
Also see this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696
If your phone is the whole time booting into recovery instead of OS I suggest to flash TWRP through clockworkmod recovery and then type the terminal commands in the TWRP recovery. Type it good and carefully cause the dd if command could wipe your whole phone, like the OP in that thread said it could nuke your phone(I didn't typed that command here cause I know that people with also maybe bad English would type that command). I hope that you still have maybe some old TWRP recovery in your storage or that you are maybe having some OTG micro sd reader or something like that? Cause If adb doesn't work in CWM then you could still maybe try Download mode and flash kdz but I don't know or it wipes the fota partition.
EDIT: Maybe also try to wipe cache in clockworkmod recovery? I never had this issue so I can't tell you exactly in steps how to fix it, especially in the clockworkmod recovery.

Need help!!! Cannot boot into twrp

Ok, I'm going to start by explaining everything I did up to this point to eliminate any troubleshooting sugggestions i may have already done.
I rooted and installed recovery the same way everyone else did. After a couple of days, I tried to install a ROM but im assuming i was encrypted because i was stuck in a loop that would only boot me into TWRP. Did my research and took the necessary steps to get around that and decrypt and boot into the new ROM.. FINALLY!!! Only one problem, this rom doesn't have Super SU installed, Alright... so i download the proper Super SU build and put it on my Micro SD card and try to boot into TWRP to flash....
This is where the problem begins. I never get the prompt to authorize my PC from my phone to allow anything, and i never did each time i reset. I'm almost certain the adb on this rom is messed up, i've wiped about 4-5 times to re-enable usb debugging from scratch in order to adb or fastboot into recovery via command prompt, however when i try adb, i get that unauthorized error an there's no option on the LG V20 to revoke under developer settings. Fastboot i just get the same "waiting for device" message. Also keep in mind that i set it to photo mode, every mode that was available and nothing. Tried different USB Cords and did this on both my laptop and my PC at work
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the drivers, re-installed the latest version of adb and fastboot to my PC, that didn't work either. Tried deleting the adbkeys file in the .android folder and still nothing.
When i try to boot in recovery manually, i just get the wipe data option and when i click yes to everything, it actually wipes my data. I'm unable to reflash TWRP because I can't access ADB or Fastboot due to the unauthorized error.
Someone, PLEASE HELP!!!!
any luck?

different route but im in the same boat. any luck?
I fixed this shortly after. Wanted to avoid returning to stock as. The only option was you and I was on 10d. I had to go back to stock but luckily the recovery method still works.

Lost dash charge and USB connectivity

Recently lost the ability to dash charge and use my USB-C jump drive on my OP6T. I've flashed a couple of different ROMS, I updated to OnePlus6TOxygen_34.J.55_OTA_055_all_2107132253_b2cbbb97b4eee.zip, re-flashed another rom, I even swapped out the port with a new replacement I ordered. I'm out of ideas, the port is new so it doesnt need cleaning, USB debugging has been toggled and USB config set to file transfer. Computer doesnt recognize it using the original cable either. I'm leaning towards a software issue but i'm afraid to do too much flashing as I dont have my USB-C to fall back on as backup and would essentially brick the thing if I cant read from the jump drive. Any idead?
Are you able to run fastboot commands from the bootloader or adb commands in recovery?
Or even mount storage in recovery?

I'm able to get to get to fastboot, and now I just screwed myself out of TWRP and root by flashing a rom without TWRP. The PC will charge the phone, but wont see it. ADB sees no devices and Shapeshift's recovery doesnt have many options. Basically now i need to flash a recovery image by device only. and that still doesn't solve the connection and slow charge issue
Are you rooted with Magisk?
You should be able to install the twrp.zip from Magisk if so. If not the TWRP app in may work to get it back.
It sounds like you may need to try the MSM tool soon.
root checker says i'm not properly rooted anymore, i've only got the magisk.apk courtesy of google's restore. Looks like the official twrp app will download but not let you flash the img unless rooted. I'm hoping this is a software bug with the oxygen image since i replaced the cable and port and no fix, otherwise i'm gonna have to buy a new device.
and I dont think MSMtool will do anything if the phones not recognized. the all-in-one tool was useless since it didnt see the phone in fastboot
I am able to wirelessly ADB. but as far as i know, there's no way to flash recovery. As soon as i boot to fastboot I obviously lose wifi. any other ideas? i'm not familiar with wireless adb
