I used to backup/restore without any problems using CMW Recovery v6.0.3.2. I had to retry flashing the last Omega Rom a few times because it wouldn't boot, but at last it worked after the factory wipe. Now I can't restore previous backups as it says simply "Error while flashing boot image!". I know I cans till recover the system+data, but I'd like to be able to restore boot as well.
What can I do to fix this? Is it a wrong/corrupt partition table?
Thanks

My I337 is stuck on the samsung logo. I was running PAC-Man ROM, and attempted to go back to AOKP using Nandroid restore, and now it won't boot up.
I wiped Data/Cache/D. Cache/System, then tried to flash AOKP, but this did not work. When I attempt to restore using nandroid it says "Restoring Data..." then it stops and says "Restore Complete Failed".
Is there any method to get back to stock using TWRP, I have a Stock Nandroid backup, but it won't restore.

If you can't get back into TWRP through normal process, sounds like you will have to go into download mode and Odin it using a stock ROM.

Did you make sure to 'factory reset' in TWRP before flashing or restoring?
You could try putting another ROM on your microSD card, boot to TWRP, factory reset, flash the new ROM, wipe dalvik/cache and reboot.
You remembered to flash lokidoki when required?
I was about to ODIN to get back to stock, but I wiped /data and /system on TWRP then REBOOTED (I didn't to that last time and the restore failed because it couldn't access /data). Then I restored to stock using nandroid successfully.
I will try to flash AOKP and see if it works..
Thanks
yeah thats the ticket.
For future reference, in twrp you can dl a rom into your pc and mount your sd card while in your phone in twrp and push the file to it. It has saved my butt a cpl of times after trying to do a restore that I had moved to the external sd card.
Hope this helps for future issues.

I found my data and cache partition corrupted, and i dont know why.
I don't know anyway to fix it but do SBF flash (so far I am doing the THIRD SBF flash today, really frustrating)
[edit] why i think data and cache partition corrupted:
1. I couldn't mount data and cache and psd partition in recovery, but i can mount sdcard (and can't unmount system partition, is it supposed that system can't be unmounted?)
2. when i booted up the system(Kayant's AOKP), the size of internal memory is 0.0B, as shown in the settings->storage
[/edit]
Is there any to fix without doing SBF flash?
another question:
How to prevent it/any precaution so that the partition wont mess up? (I probably did some wrong thats why the partition was messed up, but I have no idea what I had done wrong)
here is what i did:
I had had this problem before so I do a SBF flash and the problem is gone.(I installed Kayant's AOKP rom -4.1jb)
Yesterday I decided to flash another rom (that was Quarx's cm10.1 rom) i did a nandroid backup first, then installed the rom and installed some apps, after that I installed Kayant's Slim rom(from the new aokp paradise), i found some bug and at last decide to return to Kayant's AOKP rom. I installed the 2nd Init boot menu(coz i did the nandroid backup with CWMrecovery, not TWRP), and problems came while restoring it. It failed to restore /data partition, I tried more times but couldn't fix this. So at last I turned to SBF flashing.
I flashed and rooted it with SuperOneClick and installed 2nd Init boot menu then install the AOKP rom(didn't restore the nandroid this time) then factory reset-ed it with stock recovery, and I found the /data and /cache partition messed up again(obviously the partition isn't messed up right after SBF flashing because i can install the 2nd Init app).
Now I am doing the third SBF flash.
You shouldn't have formatted data and cache with stock recovery. That was a mistake in your second attempt.

should I use aroma wiper and do a ext4 wipe if i am going to flash jb roms (like cm10/android 4.1 or higher), to prevent messing it up?
is it necessary to do wipe before or after install a new rom?
besides, any idea why the partition messed up/ failed to restore data when i do a nandroid restore, when i tried to restore with cwm recovery within 2nd Init boot menu installed on Kayant's Slim rom?

Yes, format to ext4 for JB ROMs. Full wipe not necessary but recommended.
Start afresh, install the ROM and restore data.
Plus, you shouldn't have installed 2ndinit again. You should have installed dual recovery and tried.
Got same problem, data and cache partition corrupted.
Fortunately I have TWRP installed so I went to File System utility and format data and cache (I choose ext3).
Then restored previous backup and everything worked like before!
My Nexsus 4 was at 5.0.1 updated OTA, I rooted and installed recovery and created a nandriod backup on the internal SD card. The phone was working fine for the most part except it was having issues with the screen going black when making a call and would not come out of that state. I wanted to revert back prior backup so I did a nandriod restore with CWM v6.0.4.7 and now my phone is in a bootloop. I've tried wipe data/factory reset, also tried wipe cache partition, but still stuck in bootloop. I'm not sure what else I can do to get out of this bootloop state/ Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Fixed it by using Nexus Root Tool Kit to flash stock image. Not sure what happened but I'm switching to TWRP. First time using CWM and things didn't work out well for me using it.
Long story short, I tried to install MultiROM on my Nexus 6P, and it failed. So I tried to restore my backup using TWRP 3.0.2.0, and it keeps failing at exactly 7800MB with the error E:extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR=255. I have seen posts talking about checking the log when this happens, but I'm not sure exactly how to do that.
What exactly do I need to do to restore my backup?
I guess I should add some detail. I first tried booting to recovery and restoring the backup. The phone rebooted into a boot loop part of the way through the restore process every time I tried that. Then, I tried flashing the phone completely back to the stock image, and then restoring. I got the error 255 above. Then, I tried flashing back to stock completely, wiping Dalvik/cache, and restoring the backup. I still get the same error message. I tried restoring everything except userdata, and the phone reboots part of the way through the restore.
I could easily reroot, reinstall Xposed, and reflash TWRP if for some reason my system backup partition is corrupted. However, I don't want to lose my data partition at all. That was the whole reason I made the backup in the first place.
I've used TWRP to create backups of ROMs on my onyx device. However, every time after restoring a backup; upon boot into the ROM it stays at the loading screen. I've found ways to get around this by installing the specific ROM I was using and just restoring /data . However, this doesnt work properly as some apps are broken.
Nonetheless, has this happened to anyone else? Did you fix it? How can I fix?
Did you wipe System, Data, Cache & Dalvik before restoring ?
If not then try that.
I reflashed TWRP using fastboot method and restores work fine now. Previously, I was flashing TWRP using .img method from the recovery.
