Are there any mods for use with the S View Cover?

Bought my cover yesterday. Figured there would be some nice mods for it by the time I bought one.
Are there many 'S View Cover' users in here?
ive been using my s-view cover for about 2 weeks or so now and in one breath its brilliant! but in the other breath its a pain in the arse lol.
i tend to use a moga pro quite a bit and an in car phone grip for satnav so when using the sview cover it makes using these to a total pain in the butt. (the edges of the s-view cover get all bent and its just dosent feel good at all).
saying that, when im not using the accessories, its a beaut. (got the black non wireless charging one). feels beautiful, really well built, and love the s-view screen.
just aching to see someone come up with a way to add custom backgrounds to the note 3 s-view screen now as really do not care for the single coloured tiled backgrounds that are default.
this phone better be a keeper for a good while lol, never picked up so many official accessories in my life!,:
samsung S view cover
samsung MHL 2.0 hdmi adapter
samsung 3200mh battery
samsung hs3000 bluetooth headset dongle
samsung note 10.1 external stylus
samsung uhs1 sdxc 64gb micro sd card (70mb read)
usb 2.0 host cable
external bluetooth speaker (mdx jam classic)
moga pro gaming controler
and a shed load of other 3rd party cases already 0_0.

Woah. Samsung must love you.
I'm loving the cover too, but my whole thing is that there is more functionality on the lockscreen without the S View Cover on. If there was a mod for S View sized widgets, I'd be happy. Specifically, a Watch-On widget, and torch shortcut. And yeah, some theming/customization options would be awesome.
hello !
for change background :
Extract the framework-res.apk of your custom rom, open with winrar v5, change or replace with your mainbg_pattern_mainarea.png on directory : res/drawable-sw360dp-xxhdpi .
On note 3, copy on your sdcard, and with root explorer replace this on system/Framework (reboot is automatic when you change the .apk) enjoy!

Simply remove the chip on the back of the cover and turn off the proximity sensor. WYSIWYG from your screen before you close it.
Hi,
It works there on stock Rom (MJ7) ?

Thanks for this! Having a bit of a problem though. Can't seem to replace that mainbg_pattern_mainarea.png file inside the framework-res.apk. It asks if I want to replace, and I say yes, but after copying, it is still the same image. My replacement image is the same dimensions as the original, just a flat colour.
Any suggestions? Also, don't know if it matters, but I'm on a rooted stock rom, via Root De La Vega. So not a custom rom.
Hi
Use perhaps 7zip or winrar 5..
After for root de la vega i don't know
Me, i extract the framework-res of custom rom that i install and replace with root explorer..

thankfully those all seem to include alpha codes as well, so changing a background colour to fully transparent should allow us to use full colour images on the screen instead of tinted via colour...
I shall investigate further
yes, I tried to replace the hex code "holo_purple" by # 00000000 for exemple,
recompiled and replaced my framework, but it does not change anything ... I do not understand!
hmm, that's an odd one... the colour overlays must be linked somewhere else then...
Yes possible.. but where ?!
?
Does anyone know the best colour to use on the background to get it to show up really well? I have tried both black and white but I only get a really feint view of the image.
probably the orange!
but this is true it is not clear...
this is why it should be found or where are these color masks, and how to change, in order to make transparent, and put a real photo ... with color!
hello dev! hello dev! please! lol
Where are these xml?
lol, i've just asked the Xposed people to see if they can figure out a way to customise this... an Xposed module would make this so much easier than manually editing the apk's every time i want to change the wallpaper lol

Not sure what style lock screen my android install uses but it's the one like a rainbow shape that you drag downwards and it's awful as I keep finding the phone unlocked when I take it out of my pocket.
I'd like to change the lockscreen to either what I think is the Frodo one (sideways sliding icons for lock and volume/speaker mode?), or the X10 one which is like quarter circle swipe.
Is there some app (free ideally!) that will let me do this or a manual way I can do it if there's a source for necessary files (without too much grief).
I read that if I delete the htclockscreen.apk file then the phone will revert to the froyo one (as I use a froyo build), but when I try that with a file manager I can't delete the file - presume it's a permissions thing or something?
Thanks for any help!
ETA that most lock related apps I see in the market seem to relate to disabling locks rather than anything to change the one you already have.
Forgot to say I'm trying out Lockbot at the moment and it sort of works but it seems a little hit & miss.
In particular when you unlock the phone and it normally makes that little click sound (if you haven't turned that off of course), it sounds more like a machine gun before the lock screen comes on, and that worries me a little bit that there's something not right going on.
You could try a-lock from the Market, which is somewhat like S2U2
You could flash a cyanogenmod rom like this onetycoon cm7 comes with 4 different lockscreens ..or try simply lockscreen from the market..
Had the same issue of phone unlocking with the "arch style locker" so bought widget locker, which works perfect, it allows you to have different styles of lock screen & add widgets, cost next to nothing, I'd recommend it.
www.appbrain.com/app/widgetlocker-lockscreen/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker
But if you really don't want to pay for a lock screen, I've attached a different lockscreen for you to try.
Worked fine for me before I bought WL, see my sig for rom, but as always when changing system files, use at your own risk, tho there shouldnt be a problem.
The LS with 2 circles was extracted from a htc dhd build (free), the other pic is WLocker (paid)
Try if you like... don't try if you like, just an option
I feel CM7 may be your best shot, I use and love it! Very easy to customize.

Thanks for the replies dudes.
Will have a look at A-lock. And Simply Lockscreen (or did you mean it's simply called 'Lockscreen'?). Not being facetious there - just clarifying!
Kam333 - thanks for that file mate. Will check it out definitely.
I am now trying Wlocker as Lockbot was too erratic. Wlocker seems to be ok so I might end up buying it but I like to try out options first before deciding.
That Rom is tempting too I must admit but the bit about the high drain on BT standby concerns me a bit as I leave BT on all the time.
Decisions eh! But I appreciate all the suggestions, thanks.
Not sure how to use your one Kam - when I run an installer against the apk file it only gives be an option to UNinstall it, which I guess means it just maybe has the same name as the existing one. Am assuming once an uninstall is successful then it will allow me to install it, but why won't it let me remove the other one first?
I've tried that but it failed. Similar problem to not being able to delete the standard apk file from its directory either.
Hey
You need to push the 2 files to your system folder,
For the build I'm using, I placed the files in a folder [DL_update/root/system/app]
This goes on the root of your sd card then reboot,
You should check on your build thread for the name/path of the folder "dl_update" is specific to the build I'm using, the rest should be the same tho.
If you have any probs let me know.
Kam
Thanks - have tried doing that but with a file manager I can copy ok, but paste is not available for some reason when I try to overwrite the existing ones.
Thought I'd do it via the PC as well but that won't work as I can't see the folder structure on the phone itself, only the SD card.
I'm now trying Lock 2.0 which 'would' be great except that when locked, you can use the hard keys (home key and power key I think) to bring up menus, some of which can basically unlock the phone so despite having a better slider I still find it unlocked in my pocket, and doing stuff like trying to dial my mum while I'm having a swearing contest etc.
I can't find a menu option in the program to disable these menus but I'm sure they wouldn't have been stupid enough to make a decent lock app that is full of holes like that and couldn't be disabled?

Hey,
the lockscreen is a system file, you wont be able to modify/edit systems files without root permissions, you'll need to use a root capable explorer such as Root Explorer or ES in root mode.
or use the method in my last post.
if you view this & not logged into xda ive just pm'd you

dont call me a windows fanboy, but I really wanted this windows widget on my phone. I have the same clock on my wall. Something to work with any clock app... I like alarmclock Xtreme.
EDIT: original .pngs attached
EDIT 2 : V1 of neon clock posted (thanks to Kaik541)
EDIT 3 : V2 attached "alarmclock xtreme with modded clock" and "deskclockgoogle" versions (below) post 11 for details
EDIT 4 : V3 (final??) attached. stand alone 1x1 clock. MicroNeonClockWidget (below) post 12 for details.
**TO DO: *****HELP NEEDED
- find artist/programmer to change neon "ring" into battery meter...
- add second hand.
View attachment 533210
EDIT: added original .png images. shouldnt be hard from here..
Unfortunately, the source images are pretty tiny (130 px by 130 px) and upscaling them creates an obnoxiously blurry image so I have included here a widget that will work (though looks a bit tiny). Push the apk to /system/app (it may work in /data/app, didn't test though) and add the widget like any other
note: the above image was created with a DPI setting of 200 instead of the standard DPI of 240, may look a bit different on your screen. also, the widget in this apk does not use a seconds hand, that's why there isn't one shown.
thanks man actually that will work perfect see screenshot of where i put it...
but i think you forgot to attach the file, thank you again

then this may not actually be all that helpful to you. I plugged it into the deskclockgoogle.apk which makes it take a 2x2 square even if the actual image isn't that big and I'm unsure of how to change it

no problem, just hit me that you could, of course, be using a launcher that supports resizing widgets dynamically (launcherpro plus/adw) and it wouldn't matter, so good luck with it, hope it fits your needs.
actually using launcherpro plus i was able to re-size the widget and it didnt scale the image, so i have 1x1 perfect.
EDIT: gotta love timing...
is there any way to Untie it to alarm? so i can use it with alarmclockextreme?

hmm, to be honest I have no experience with modifying market apps. I know that standard taking apart and putting back together doesn't work because it breaks the key signing. there are probably some guides on how to resign the application properly, but for now it is beyond my grasp, sorry =/

we're all learning, thats what we're here for.
thanks again
here is a version of the free alarm clock xtreme available on the market with the above neon clock as the analog clock. remove any version installed from the market before attempting to install this and then install like any normal apk.
ok, I think I finally have something that could suit anyone's needs. Here is a widget that is permanently 1x1 (which can be scaled up with a launcher that resizes, but it looks best at this size given the resolution of the PNG's anyway, so it'd be kind of pointless). This is a modded version of this app:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/micro-clock-widget-1x1/factory.widgets.Micro available for free on the market. I have changed the name so they can be installed side by side in case you wanted multiple clocks. Unfortunately, clicking it doesn't open anything, so it's just a standalone 1x1 widget analog clock. Install like any other standard apk.
edit: wow I spent too much time on this, but now I know how to edit market apps yay learning experiences.
a few hours in a single night is fast for learning, it would have taken me at least 2 or 3 days to get there. i dont even have the sdk installed.
your work is really appreciated.
just thought of a great final feature, but it is out of the scope for me and Kaik541,
need to find an artist/programmer to convert the neon ring into a battery meter.
bump... due to |OP| update...
Wow...very nice Kaik. Great work.

very nice Kaik. a keeper.
I can't see to find the lolocation of the stock wallpapers. I ask because I'm having a lot of trouble getting any wallpaper to fit even when sized correctly. But if I simple choose the wallpapers that came with it, the tab never forces me to use tthat stupid template. I assume if I dropped my picture I want into the stock wallpaper location I will be able to set it jjust as eeasily.
probably not much help but the default lockscreen wallpaper is in system/framework/framework-res/res/mdpi
Some of the wallpapers may be stored within the launcher apk as well. You could pull it off and unzip it to check out the folder/file structure.
Not as easy as I had hoped...
its so easy if u have root explorer, as milenko said its in the launcher apk.
Can someone give me a little guidance here?
I found the .apk with root explorer, but now what? Do I extract it, put the new wallpaper in it and overwrite the stock .apk with the new one? I was hoping it'd be more of a drag-drop situation.

I had the same problem. Here is what I did, but this might not work on Stock ROM (odexed files):
Get the framework-res.apk from the ROM you use.
Open the framework-res.apk with 7ZIP (do not uncompress it, just open it with 7ZIP)
Change default_wallpaper.png in res/drawable-xlarge-nodpi
Change default_wallpaper.png in res/drawable-nodpi
Change defaultlockscreenwallpaper.jpg in res/drawbale-mdpi if you want a different lock screen wallpaper as well.
Close 7ZIP
Flash the ROM with the changed framework-res.apk, or push it with ADB to the tablet to system/framework.
I changed to different file size and picture size and had no problems.
oh my what a lot of steps involved. i will just stick with the stock one then.
Hello people, I have now completely moved to CM11 on the Note 3 and I'm not looking back. It's brilliant. There are issues like battery life and audio and so on but I expect these issues to be sorted out in the next few weeks. Anyways the thing that grinds my gears the most about CM11 on the N3 is the hovering cursor. I want a visual indicator of where the stylus is, and on the Samsung ROMs it's perfect, however on CM the big black cursor does not look that great. I was wondering if someone with greater knowledge than me could help with this.
cm-11-20140126-NIGHTLY-hltexx\system\framework\framework-res\res\drawable-xxhdpi
'framework-res' is an apk file, that I extracted with 7zip
My idea is to extract the APK file above, and just replace the cursor icon with something smaller or more like the one on Samsung ROMS, then 'remake' (dunno if you compile/compress it) it into a apk, flash this to the device. Would this work or not?
I have attached the two /png images found in the folder above, which I pulled out of the latest CM11 nightly. The basic idea is to replace the cursor with the other icon.
If this is not possible, is there another way to do it? Xposed modules are able to replace battery icons and all sorts of other things. Can the cursor be replaced that way?
Same here

Hi there! Looking to do the same... No luck so far. I try with other .png but i always got boot loop. Lets wait for some real dev to help us!
Hello, everyone!
I'm new here on XDA and very, very new to modding. I was wondering if anyone could help me? I just purchased a Galaxy Note 3 and I would like to theme it but I don't particularly know how. I've used the search feature but I don't think I'm wording what I need correctly. Here's what I need help with:
1. A tutorial to edit just a theme not the whole ROM.
2. How do I preview my work so far? I don't want to flash every time I make a change.
3. Is it at all possible to create a whole theme with Eclipse? If so, is there a tutorial I can use?
Before you start grumbling, I repeat...I have used the search feature on XDA and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Simply links pointing me to the right place would be perfect. Thanks in advance, everyone!

1. Just use Google, many reputable themers write up good guides to get you started: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916814 and http://xda-university.com/as-a-user/introduction-to-basic-rom-theming
2. You can just switch your themed apk's and SystemUI, then adjusting permissions on them will do fine too...except this will take more time than flashing all files at once.
3. Well you'll need Photoshop too.........for themes....

Thanks for that link! I have Photoshop already, I had a feeling I would need it at some point, haha. As for #2... that was gibberish to me. #2 meant that if you wanted to do system level modding, like modding the look of general apps like Settings, your notification bar, etc....you will have to do that. It's quite complex because you can't just use Java/Eclipse solely to do this. At the end of this though, you can make any device look "the same".
APK's are program files and the SystemUI is what makes your phone....well, a phone. The general GUI of the Statusbar, lockscreen and navigation bar (if you have one set). You will have to set your permissions back as you have to give the system the rights to access the file. If the permissions are set incorrectly, then you'll have to reflash an entire ROM, so that's why making sure you do it right in the updater-script of the flashable zip is more reliable.
If I were you, try theming launchers first, they're usually what people theme for. You could earn good money from it if you put it on Play.

I would really, really like to theme the whole thing, because I absolutely hate the stock colors and the black on white hurts my eyes. I've searched for a ROM with a light theme, but to no avail, especially since the Note 3 is relatively new. I've been trying to figure it out all day and I don't know what I'm doing, haha. I have a theme that I want to modify, so I don't have to start from scratch. It is very complex, I think I have smoke coming out of my ears -_-;

I understand...reminds me of being on stock S5 ROMs where everything was forced to be a shade of teal or blue, made me want to puke.
You could try installing a theme, tweaking it directly on your device (in turn learning how the Android operating system works), and then doing it again on your computer to make it shareable.
May I also recommend an Xposed module called Wanam Xposed alongside your flashed theme. You can essentially change every aspect of your Samsung SystemUI there. From toggles to the notification colors, it gives you a certain amount of themeability that may satisfy some needs.

May I also recommend an Xposed module called Wanam Xposed alongside your flashed theme. You can essentially change every aspect of your Samsung SystemUI there. From toggles to the notification colors, it gives you a certain amount of themeability that may satisfy some needs.

Thank you for your help! I'm going to try all this and see if I can figure it out. In the meantime, I'm on the hunt for a pink theme. xD
This is a good place to start.
And this is good for photoshop/Gimp processing.

Due to my haste and a surfeit of whiskey, I forgot to say that Alliance ROM - my daily driver - will allow you to get your theme as pink as you need without complications. Background, text, whatever. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2571255

Shouldn't all ROMs allow for that? Wanam Xposed themes everything in the status bar without custom ROM'ming

I tried Wanam Xposed, it didn't work for me at all. Nothing happened and I followed instructions.

Did you install the Xposed Framework on Xposed Installer?
It works on all devices no matter what firmware.

Alliance allows changes to backgrounds etc, either universal or per app. Same with text colours, the dialler and heaps more, not just the status bar. Other roms and associated kitchens may allow the same, I wouldn't know. But Alliance is so easy to theme on the fly and is rock solid too.

I see. I'm just more used to AOSP because of its sleek professional look over TW ROMs, so I'm not up to date with the mass influx of TW custom ROMs.
