[Q] Transfer apps and app data from Nexus 4 to Note 3 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I'm trying to transfer apps and app data from my Nexus 4 to my Note 3.
I cant use TB since I am not rooted, and cannot root without triggering KNOX since I am on MJ4. Can somebody recommend a good app to transfer apps and app data?
I also tried Helium, but whenever I copied to the backup directory from the Nexus 4 to the Note 3, and opened the app in the Note 3, It said no backups were detected.
Thanks!

have a read on what you need to do if you transferred the helium files not via the web interface dl/ul method (slow and prone to dropouts)
(json manifest files)
without root the apps you're able to backup and restore will be limited.
(for example i couldn't find contacts in helium for some reason, or chrome)
had to restore contacts via another app (e.g. super backup)
I can't say i had a great experience with super backup either ,since some apps refused to restore and others didn't show up as backed up.

I thought app data was synced with google account?
leave a 'thanks' if i helped

going to RMA how do i backup?

I'm going to RMA the N4 sometime soon. im new to android and don't have my phone rooted i wanted to know if there's any apps where i can backup all my data to my pc so when i get my replacement N4 i can easily get it set up.
Titanium backup pro you can even backup to cloud solutions such as Dropbox. Or just copy the backup folder to your PC then copy over onto your new device.

Super backup will also work. It was featured on The xda home page a few days ago.
Both titanium backup and super backup require root to back up data.
If you do root it you should restore to factory settings and unroot afterwards as warranty and root often don't mix.

Here you go, OP. This requires no root access. Only a PC.

Deadspace data GONE???

I was playing deadspace on my N4 while running AOKP build 4 everything was good. Upgraded to build 2 and expected to titanium restore the data (I was at chapter 8) but nope. It didn't restore my data. Anyone know a way for me to back it up next time j want to change ROMs? I don't have to have to keep starting over every few weeks...

On titanium did you select backup all user app or backup all user apps and system data. I believe user app backup just remembers the fact that you have that app and system data should be the information gathered from such things as games?

Really? I didn't know that. I thought system data was just for system apps (ROM + Gapps, non PlayStore downloaded)
Next time I'll try backing up the system data too, I hope that will work
Can anyone confirm Deadspace's game data is part of system because my Bad Piggies data restored just fine without backing up system apps...

Best backup app without root?

Just a quick question... I want to hard reset and then flash the new firmware, what's the best backup app?
I especially dont want to lose whatsapp stuff (logs and pictures) and the sms (and of course all the apps installed).
Is there a way to do so without root? Thanks in advance.
It seems you are asking for the impossible.
The apps needed for those backups needs Root Access esp. for the case of Titanium Backup

Well, for instance...
Whatsapp does a backup of the logs on the internal memory, so is it possible to copy these files on the sdcard, wipe, and then copy back to internal? Does that work?
The phone settings and apps, if im not mistaken, are also saved on the gmail account.
And the sms... kies (which sucks) does backup them.
So it shouldnt be impossible for an app to do what i just said... or am i wrong?
Thanks.
Doesn't carbon work without root?

Try Superbackup application. It can take backup of your applications & message. Just check.

I just helium to move phone's and it got most of the information across just missed my email accounts. It's free too. Once it does schedule backups I will buy. Good luck.
I believe 'MyBackup' works without root

[Q] Upgrading from 2013 to 2013 model. Searched but no luck.

Can I backup my 2012 N7 and restore it to my 2013?
The 2012 is rooted and unlocked on 4.3.
If so when I boot it up should I tell it to load everything from google play restore, skip it, where to start.
Thanks!
If you're talking about a NANDROID, you can't.

You can back up your apps and system data (wifi, sms etc) with Titanium or ROM Toolbox, and restore it to the new tablet.
Be aware that restoring app data to another ROM may be problematic for some apps, so be ready to erase app data for apps that misbehave (no notifications, force closes etc.).
Don't ever restore system data to a device that is not the same model and does not have the same ROM. Only restore your apps and app data.

So an adb backup would be fine then.

If you are rooted, you can use titanium backup to save all of your apps and data. Save the titanium backup folder on your SD to your computer then do whatever you need to do. After that, put the folder where it needs to go and use TB to restore them.
ADB is fine as long as you do not restore any system apps or data.

First of all, thanks to all for the quick help! I am leaving on vacation in a day and kinda wanted to get this going
So in Titanium I would do a full backup with option 1 it looks like "Backup all user apps" since I don't want any system data.
Pushing it to a USB drive now. No SD on a Nexus 7 sadly.
Exactly. Then save the titanium backup folder that your backups get saved to, to a safe place off of the device

I get the same "1 xml error" message on a full backup with TB pro. It appears to have backed everything up but I have no idea what actually errored out.

I tried that too, and it fails. But titanium shows 2 options: 1 backup to xml (which fails) and 1 backup to 101 (guess that means 'binary'). This last option succeeds...
I did a verify backups and found out the error was a backup of my bluetooth pairings. You can delete the error file and the rest of the backup is fine.

One of the functions in the Backups section is verify all backups. You can run that and when it is finished, it will show you any individual items that have errors. When I did this, one item showed up which was Bluetooth pairing. You just long-press on that item and then delete it. Then I ran verify backups again and it didn't find any errors so, at least in my case, that 1 xml error seems to be backing up my bluetooth paring data.
