Id recommend never using a toolkit, for so many reasons I've seen; people don't understand what's going on and can't fix errors, they come asking about things that should be basic knowledge, they don't learn anything in the process, and so on - its like giving kids a calculator before they can add.
Anyway rant over, flash this in recovery; http://download.chainfire.eu/365/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.69.zip, and if you need a recovery; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266654

Rooting android 4.2.2 nexus 4

I updated my nexus 4 to 4.2.2 and have terrible battery results. I want to root and flash cm 10.1 does anyone now if any toolkits have updated to root 4.2.2?

All the toolkits should still work.
But do yourself a favor and learn to use fastboot and adb. Super easy to use, and its all you need on a nexus
Fastboot oem unlock
Fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilegoeshere.img
Fastboot reboot-recovery
Adb sideload romfilenamegoeshere.zip
Adb sideload gappsfile.zip

Yeah I'm new to this whole thing haha. Do you know any good videos that do adb to learn from?

4.2.2 has a tremendous batterylife improvement over 4.2.1. I would recommend a data/factory reset or even better flash the whole 4.2.2 factory image for optimal result.

If you read the app info on play store it says it won't work on 4.3 but they are trying to find a fix.

Ok so we just have to sit tight correct?

I would sit tight and let the app developers try and straighten things out. I updated my nexus4 to 4.3 but will wait awhile before doing my n7. I'm sure it won't be long!

Ok need a little help trying the root kit but for some reason I keep getting adb can't connect

Only thing I can suggest is make sure you have USB debugging enabled and make sure you have the correct drivers installed. It's probably best to ask in the thread of the toolkit you're using, I haven't tried many toolkits but wugs has a pretty good walk thru for driver installation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475

I followed the instructions in the thread below for 'Already updated to 4.3 and have an OTA notificaion? (JWR66Y from JWR66V)'.
I unrooted, flashed the update zip in recovery and immediately after flashed the superuser zip and all was fine.

Boot into recovery and flash Chainfire's SuperSU package. After that you are rooted.

Nexus 4

Hello, I have the Nexus 4 I am running 4.2.2 and I'm rooted I was going to update the other day to 4.3 but it didn't work. Could this be due to a custom recovery? I am on stock android and i was unrooted at the time.
I was also wondering if there are any good root methods out there I have heard a lot of problems with rooting on 4.3?
Just would like some opinions?
Thanks guys

There's not really any problems just gotta make sure you're following instructions properly. All you need to do is obviously just unlock your device, then push recovery to it then flash root. Obviously the are more in the between steps.

4.2 to 4.4.1

Howdy, was looking to update my nexus from 4.2.2 to 4.4.1. I remember when I went from 4.1 to 4.2 I had to use my PC to update the boot loader first. Is this also true for this update or can I just flash my new ROM and gapps after a good wipe?

Bump! Anyone?
The proper way without any problem is flash factory image via wugfresh tool kit and it should update your device kernel bootloader android os every thing and it is very easy too.
Please ignore my spelling mistakes. English is not my native language.

[Q] How do I root the Nexus 4 on Android version 4.4.2? Please help!

I just got my hands on this little guy and want to root it.
I don't want to install any custom ROM or anything like that, all I want to do is root my Nexus 4 (and have SU).
The phone has been updated to use Android version 4.4.2.
Please help.
Thank you!
One of the easiest ways to do it is Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit.
