Hi,
I've had a similar problem and used/use Tasker to prevent it.
Variable = %SILENT = ON --> Silent Mode = Vibrate
I even add a vibrate action for effect but that's up to you.

i would like to be able to hold down the power buttons for a few secs and it display a menu to select profile....ie vibrate, outdoor, silent, off
i would also like to disable the ring bit on the volume control.....is this possible
Pressing the volume key on the side of the phone brings up a quick menu for volume levels (system&ringer) and vibrate, and silent. If you select silent then press the 'up' volume twice it goes back to your original volume level.

i know...its annoying!
thanks for the response.
anyone else got a solution
Is there any way to disable the Volume rocker key? It stays active even when the phone is locked so when in my pocket, it often reduces the volume or even puts it off compleatly. Is there a Reg hack to disable it compleatly as the volume can be set via the settings menue.
Regards, Woolly.
This does not happen on my phone.
Anyone else have this problem?
When the phone is put to "sleep" (pressing the on/off button) ,locked or not, all buttons are disabled. The phone will only wake up (all buttons and soft keys enabled) when there is an incoming call or message or when you press the on/off button again. If it's in your pocket during the wake up, that's where the volume button could be pressed by whatever.
That's how it works on mine.
^^+1
The only time the volume buttons are working while phone is sleeping is when I'm listening to music via headset... Otherwise, it works the same as azahidi's...
You can use AE Button Plus ( http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php ), I assigned another functions to volume buttons with it and lot of other functions to rest of my buttons. It is $7.99.
You can also use S2U2 ( http://www.ac-s2.com/ ) for locking the phone. It is free.
Been looking through my Nexus for some options on this. I would like to have it switch between Vibrate and Loud instead of Silent or Loud. I for one have no use for silent mode. Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing? Couldn't find anything on this. Thanks!
There sorta is.
Prese and release the power button to bring up the lock inscreen, then if you hold down volume down + top power buttom for a second or two, it'll go to silent mode. The volume rocker is then active until the screen shuts off. So for those five secs you can adjust the ringer volume. Tape volume up once and it'll take you to vibrate mode.
Same thing to bring back to loudest ringer. Hit the power button to bring up the lock screen then holdVolume up + power for a second or two and it'll go up to highest ringer volume.
Alternatively, just hold down the power buttong to bring up the "Airplane/Silent/Shut down" menu. From there you can hit volume up/down to adjust your ringer. Vibrate is one click up from silent.
Ah. Well that's a shortcut i didnt know. Not exactly what I was hoping for but thanks for the tip!
I hope that this gets changed in an update. I'd like to have the option to switch the phone to vibrate. Kind of like the hardware switch on the Moto Cliq.
Check out the apps from kaa on the market. They work for me to lock the volume keys to my liking.
So I just switched over from an iPhone and one thing thats been bugging me was that whenever I enabled silent mode if I accidentally hit the volume rocker it would get knocked out of silent mode. On the iPhone when silent mode is enabled hitting the volume rocker would still keep it on silent mode. Is there a setting or something that I am overlooking?

The quick press-volume-down-until-quiet isn't permanent, and I'm glad that isn't. If you don't want to accidentally bump it up a notch or two, use the sound/vibrate/mute toggle in the notification bar instead.
So, as we all now, Samsung has brought back the silence mode with the update BOC 3/BOC 5.
But the problem is, the only way that we can select the silence mode is through the Notification Panel or on Settings. We can't press and hold the volume - button to get the silence mode (like kitkat), we'll stop at vibration mode. :crying:
So, i was wondering if someone could fix this problem ?
it's possible to have back the silence mode through the volume button or no ?
Thanks so much !

As long as I remember, in kitkat also volume button was stopping at vibration.
