[Q] Looking for a full Mako 4.4 Flash - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, just looking for an all in one flash if anyone has made it yet, fastboot and the Android SDK etc. Isn't available to me as I'm no where near my home or office computer and won't be for quite some time.
Now I have the latest version of CWM (the one that is supposed to be 4.4 compatible) ready to flash over once I have flashed 4.4 and I'll be doing a clean install, I'm happy enough with stock and rooted and my boot loader is already unlocked, I'm not to great with this stuff, I can work with CWM but that's about it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I've tried looking about but there seems to be so much going on and 4.4 threads everywhere, feeling confused on where to go and embarrassed that I'm just adding to the problem.

Check in the Dev forum, there are enough flashable zips

[Q] new to samsung. questions about S4 stuff

alright get ready for all the questions!!! lol
so i came from my HTC EVO OG. rooting over there required unlocked bootloader and was wondering if thats the case or whats different about samsung? i also saw that there is twrp and cwm recoveries for the s4 right now, which is best? im assuming there are no awesome roms out yet because the phones brand new so ill check back on that later i keep seeing talk about odin and hiemdall too, what are they?
a few other random questions too. im thinking about getting the s-view cover but i also want the wireless charging back. think i could somehow combine this with a little modding? any other cool accessories?
also love making my phone full blue/black theme. here is what i currently have my s4 looking like. https://www.dropbox.com/s/dlc3ukdjcy4tsop/2013-05-05%2019.55.47.png. so if you guys have any cool ics themes or stuff like that feel free to share. waiting for cm10 or aokp roms to use as long as everything works well.
thanks in advance
Odin is a flashing tool. Use it to flash your recovery and then use your recovery to flash superuser. Thats it now you have root.
I like twrp right now just because I can set my backup folder and do a few other things while in recovery. Once we have a fully functional cwm touch available I may switch.
i ended up rooting useing qbs motochopper method. i guess ill just wait for a fully functional cwm or one that becomes the standard most people use and some good roms to do all that.
Hey man im sort of on the same boat coming from the original EVO 4g
Go to Android development forum, and go to Shabbypenguins OUHDS recovery thread and follow the excellent instructions in there for recovery and root if you went back to stock.
Fully stable and working well, TWRP is fine too other than some touch sensitivity issues. I recommend OUDHS CWM!

[Q] Help a complete noob flash Nex 7 please ;)

HI All,
Long time lurker
I get a bit overwhelmed with rooting / flashing and such but yesterday i received my RMA Nexus 4 and decided to give it a crack as it was a fresh start.
Used CF-Root on my Nexus 4, then i flashed Paranoid Android (v3) using Rom Manager (both excellent bits of software and really easy to use) i was so impressed with Paranoid Android (love the tablet mode) so decided to give it a go on my Nexus 7
Used CF-Root again and unlocked boot loader and rooted ok, installed Rom Manger and booted to recovery but it gave me errors when i attempted to load Paranoid Android so i exited and now back just stock software.
I used the same ROM for Paranoid Android that i used for the Nexus 4, i wasn't able to fine a specific build for the Nexus 7 so assumed that they use the same ROM? i now think i was wrong but cant find a specific ROM for my Nexus 7
Would someone be kind enough to tell me if i do need a different build for the Nexus 7 and also if i need a different GAAPS download?
Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been posted before, so much conflicting information and out of date links around the web, i just wanted to be sure.
Cheers
Steve

All I did when I got my Nexus 7 was downloaded the Toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809195
Use that and run the "All-in-One" unlock, recovery, root, busybox etc.
Note: Technically all you really needed was a custom recovery to stick and you can flash a custom rom, but I like to run the All-In-One just in case.
As for the rom, you should not flash another device's rom. Only use the one designated for your specific device. Flashing another device's will likely brick/bootloop your current device.
To make things easier, think of it like this:
Custom Roms likely already have root privileges, so flashing them automatically gives u root access. In order to flash a custom rom, you simply need a recovery like CWM or TWRP. You can achieve that however you like, but the Toolkit is easiest in my opinion.
When you flash a rom, read the requirements on the thread. It should be as easy as wiping Cache/Dalvik/Data, Flash Rom, Flash GAPPS, Flash Kernel if you want to, Flash Multi DPI Play Store if you change dpi of your apps, then reboot.
Paranoid android thread of nexus 7 is HERE, ROM is available for both grouper and tilapia.
+1 on aria807. Nexus toolkit is great for beginners and is very error proof. I've since moved onto fastboot and abd command line, but I still use the tool kit to restore to stock because its fast and easy. Damn program even downloads the images for you.

For a second I thought you're on crack trying to flash a Sony NEX 7...

I'm losing faith in this tablet, Unlocking, Rooting, and Custom Rom = Ready 2 Give Up

I had a Nook Color, I rooted it and added CyanogenMod w/ Gapps and everything was great. Upgraded to a Transformer TF300T last X-Mas and enjoyed the tablet. After incredible slowdown and unbearable lag I really haven't used it much for anything in the last 6 months. Decided to pick it up and Root it and make it usable again.
Over the last 3 days I've been struggling greatly with this tablet. At first I was having trouble rooting it but that was because I was using my laptop which is windows 8.1 so I finally got it rooted on day 2 with TWRP. Then yesterday I was having a hard time getting it to load CyanogenMod but I determined it was the 2 versions. The 10.0 stable just sits at the Asus load screen and the most recent nightly just sits at the CyanogenMod home screen. After trying a few other nightlies I realized that I can get it to load CyanogenMod but now I can't get it to load any Gapps. There is a constant force close window that comes up and makes the tablet useless on most nightlies.
Then one nightly allowed the install but Google Play would just force close. Now I'm hearing about this other Custom Rom I could possible go with "CROMI-X" but a quick Google search and forum search just came up with more confusion.
Is there any way to just root this damn thing and put on a custom rom and have Google Play? I don't feel like I'm asking a whole lot. I know it's never going to be as easy as the Nook Color was but for christ sake, I'm not a novice. I can follow directions. It's like everything I look at is outdated or not compatible.
Please help, I'm slowly becoming suicidal because of this tablet.
And I figured it out, 10.2 = Android 4.3 whereas I was using a GAPPS.zip for 4.2 instead of 4.3 Hope that helps somebody.
What is so hard about loading chromi go to the thread in dev download the latest version when the wizard pops up select your model then select the options and finish you will have a stock asus Rom with extras. I'm running it fine.
First of all, DO NOT flash 4.2 rom on 4.1 bootloader or vice versa. Then flash correct gapps. 4.2 on 4.3 rom won't work. On OP thread there is always link to correct GAPPS. And since you're going from stock to modified ROM clean install (wipe cache, dalvik, data, format /system) is mandatory.
I didn't have single problem flashing tab so my only explanation is that you used wrong combination of ROM and GAPPS
1. What boot loader are you on? Wrong boot loader for a ROM = no good.
2. Did you wipe data + dalvik before you flashed CM?
3. Did you use the right gapps for your android version?
4. You did it wrong, don't blame the tablet

Easy bro. First of all, be patient and enjoy learning from mistakes. The android world is so big and there's a bunch of info on how to accomplish each task (root, unlock, flash, troubleshoot). So just be patient, read carefully, try to make yourself some time to understand what's wrong with the proecedure. Eventually you will get things fixed and you'll love your TF300T again. You have an awesome piece of hardware in your hands, it's just a matter of (again) patience. Just look at the DEV forum for this tablet, so may users, so many knowledgeable people willing to help, so many possibilities. Do NOT give up!
Checklist for rooting and ROMing the TF300
Unlocked bootloader? Sounds like you have done this
Custom recovery? You did this part...
If you were on the latest firmware from ASUS (which it sounds to me you are) you should be fine
If not follow instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
CROMi-X for tf300 is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
one last thing...
ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS
There are no stupid questions here
Poop
I edited my post before anybody had posted. Should have just deleted the thread but left it up thinking it might help somebody with a similar brain fart.

[Q] Clarification Needed

Hey guys. GOt my AT&T s4 here. first one i got couple weeks ago got the MK2 OTA and downloaded just fine, never got TWRP thru GooManager or CWM thru ROM Manager to work n install a recovery. SafeStrap is the only thing i had gotten working. Phone ended up getting wet, switched the board inside with that from a slightly older s4. this one came with the MDL firmware. However this time TWRP thru GooManager worked. So i installed couple other recoveries that wouldnt work before, one with Auto-Loki feature and the other was SafeStrap. With SafeStrap i installed two versions of CM11, none of which got beyond a black screen. Also i have little to no signal since dealing with MDL. Tried to update to MK2, but this time i get a reboot 2 my custom recovery followed by Status 7 error. I am interested in trying out a CM11 ROM, as well as maybe one or two TouchWiz ROMS. Mainly CM, really love the Torch app. What do i need 2 do in general to accomplish this? Ive got ODIN, pretty sufficient experience rooting and modding phones,so not a completely dummy here. Was wondering if i maybe needed to flash a kernel to get those CM ROMS working. any guidance is extremely appreciated.
You were trying to use SS. If you would read, you would know that only 4.2.2 TW and GPE ROMs work with SS unless you have the latest SS, but then again no AOSP, AOSP, CM or MIUI will work. Since the new board is able to have a custom recovery because it is pre MF3, use that to flash those types of ROMs .the error 7 is because you tried to OTA update with a custom recovery. Can't do it.
You say you are not a noob, but I disagree. Every concern you have mentioned is on the first page of both the QA section and general section. Read before you brick.

[Q] Question about Tmobile KitKat update...

Hello, newbie here. Not a dev, but I've been flashing roms on my last few phones and I'd like to think i have half a clue what I'm doing, lol.
Was reading through this thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2664652&page=4
I'm currently running CloudyStock 1.0 with TWRP 2.6.3.5. I understand i can keep root by flashing SuperSU right after flashing the ROM, but will it cause problems if i flash any other mods before rebooting (like the walkman mod, for instance)?
So I flashed this rom last night. Works great and still rooted. IMHO since your coming from different Android versions I would not flash a mod in the middle of flashing a new rom.
1. It may not be compatible with 4.4.2 framework etc.
2. Much like you I've been around this for awhile and it seems like with this phone there is no really easy way to get back to a previous version of Android without wiping everything. Upon flashing this rom the Kit Kat version overwrites the TWRP or custom recovery.
Personally I would wait to flash mods until someone cracks this and makes it where TWRP can work with Kit Kat. Which will not take too long I imagine. Xposed doesn't work yet with 4.4.2 missing that... Hope this helps!
