Power button is corrupted & problem in recovery - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear friends,
My defy's power button is corrupted. There is no problem with turn on phone with usb cable or charger. and i change vol+ button to power button in keylayout for wakeup and power menu in android. but now i flash a sbf file and i have rebooting cycle and need to wipe. but when i go to recovery i cant select wipe menu and only i can up and down menu.
if i have a sbf that no need to wipe, i can flash this and then install 2ndint and then install CM with touchscreen recovery.
What should I do? any help?

You can make a custom sbf, which has twrp(check development thread I think it's made already, though I'm not sure which recovery it includes), and once installed you should be able to wipe data from twrp
To include twrp on a custom sbf you will need to modify system.img from your sbf and replace boot menu folder from a Rom with twrp.

Have you try disassembling the phone?
Mine was only dirty. Once I removed the dirt I was able to use it.
You can also put a small drop of cyanoacrylate on the button's internal pin.

[Q] I finally brick by defy

I just manged to brick my defy. All I did was to restore NANDROID backup.
The phone freeze in recovery mode, I put out and the inserted the battery, sins then the phone show only the red dot with big M. No LED blinking and I cannot access recovery or bootloader modes.
please help!!!
power phone on with holding volume down should get you into bootloader and powering on holding volume up should get you into recovery. In recovery you will see android with ! press both volume buttons at the same time to access recovery.
You might want to try wipe cache and delvic cache then try again or you will have to flash a RSD with the version of your stock phone.

[Q] Deleted Recovery on CM 7.2 Can't Boot!

So i wanted to install a rom (Froyo 2.2). Formatted, wiped cache and dalvik. Pushed the wrong button carelessly and rebooted. Than i oppened the motorola recovery and wiped cache. Now i can't open the recovery menu of CM and i don't have google play installed so there is no way to boot zip files..
Please need help, seriously. And i'm green with android's..
Oh wow
Take a 2.2 Froyo File, download RDS Lite
Turn your Device down then push the Volume Button down + Unlock Button
When you see the android sign push Audio up + down at the same time
Then go to factory reset and do this
Now put your battery out and back in
Boot with Volume button up + Unlock Button
Now you should see the bootloader screen
Connect your phone to your PC start RSD Lite and flash your 2.2 froyo stock sbf

Revert to stock ROM

Hey guys,
is it possible to revert my phone back to stock?
I am running CM10 at the moment and would like to send my phone into repair (because of my speaker).
Maybe there is no problem with a custom ROM but I would like to be sure they don't blame a ROM for a hardware fault.
Maybe some of you have a bit of expierence with Motorola service or with the mentioned problem above.
Thanks for any help!

Just flash the SBF via RSDLite...
You need to boot into the bootloader - see instructions i my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33199328&postcount=1374
Then just do wipe data via stock recovery (boot with X pressed and then press vol up + down to see the recovery menu)
.. I've sent my Moto phone to repair with custom ROM (because my power button was broken, so I was not able to reflash it) and they have repaired it without any problem (thankfully) - but I definitely recommend you to do a nand backup and revert to stock with the instructions above

Wow that is easier than I thought, thanks!
If I flash the SBF, does that erase the custom bootloader/root etc. too?
I will give it a try in 2 weeks and see what the Motorola support ppl say.

you don't have a custom bootloader , but yes it will flash a stock version without Bootmenu or root.
Okay, then I meant Bootmenu, not Loader
Thanks again for the info, I will post an update if I succeed!
Just install a GB image from bootmenu and you will be ok. But the service will not mess with your software.

Thanks Anonymous_! Everything works fine now
Here is my procedure:
Programs/Files you need:
RSD Lite
SBF-File (make sure it's the right Kernel - Froyo/Gingerbread)
Motorola USB-Drivers (not sure if necessary for RSD-Lite)
Step-by-Step:
Install the USB-Drivers
Install RSD-Lite
Boot your phone into bootloader
remove battery
connect USB-Cable (PC to phone)
press and hold the buttons: camera + vol. down + power
put battery in while still holding these three buttons
Start RSD-Lite (with admin privileges)
Choose your SBF-File (with the "..." button)
Press Start
Then just "wipe data" via stock recovery
press and hold "x" on the hardware keyboard
boot your phone
press volume up AND down when you see the android robot (with the attention sign)
[*]Choose "wipe data" with the volume buttons
[*]Confirm with the power button, then confirm you choice again
[*]Then reboot from the recovery menu
Again my thanks goes to Anonymous_ for his instructions!
I was just going to ask the same question as the OP.
Thank you very much for the procedure explanation. Now I'm a bit more confident about upgrading to CM10
EDIT: What if when I try to boot via stock recovery, the Android robot appears but pressing Volume Up + Down don't do anything?
Thanks dudes, I bought a 2nd hand Milestone 2 with stock 2.2. I could not update to Android 2.3 with the Motorola official updater, so I followed this short tutorial. Now I have stock Android 2.3, Niceeee !! Now rooting the phone and removing the bloatware crap..
I was looking for that, thanks

Have no internal storage and can't install any ROMs

I gave my old phone Defy Red lens to a friend. He messed around with bootloader and now the OS does not see any internal storage so i can't install any bootloaders.
Can't acces custom bootloader.
I can only acces a recovery mode but my options are limited.
I did a full wipe and cache wipe from the recovery mod but i only managed to get inside os but all data resets everytime and there is no storage as stated before.
Please check attached photos for more information on build etc.
I tried RSD lite but it won't see phone while in recovery mode.
Any help is appreciated.

Bootloader is already in the phone, you must be talking about custom recovery. When you reboot your phone, a blue LED will light up. Immediately push volume down, then choose recovery->Teamwin recovery.
To enter bootloader, switch off your phone, then first press volume up then power button, keep them pressed until the screen lights up a little, then let them go. A screen appears, which is the bootloader. This is needed for RSDLite.
About your problem, download AROMA/full wiper zip. Go to custom recovery, then press install and choose the zip. Choose EXT4 and wipe system, data and cache. DO NOT REBOOT. After that, immediately flash a ROM+Gapps.
By the way, when you cleared data and cache in stock recovery (the one in the photo), they were formatted to ext3, which led to those problems.
