I have this 8GB Nexus 4 I purchased when it was first released as a gift for someone. Anyway, when 4.3 was released the person I gifted the phone took the update and after that the screen was stuck on the X screen for about 12 hour. He finally unplugged the power and waited for the battery to drain.
The phone isn't rooted, doesn't have a custom recovery on it. It's basically a stock device.
I have the phone now and this is what I've done so far. As soon as I received the phone, I went into the recovery and cleared both cache and reset the device to default. It still didn't boot (stuck on X screen). Then I used fastboot to clear everything and reinstall the factory image for 4.3. it still wouldn't boot. I then used fastboot to flash the radio from 4.2's factory image and it booted to the main screen.
I don't know why the phone won't boot with the radio bundled with the factory image for 4.3. I waited until 4.4 became available (today) thinking that would solve my problem. No, it didn't. The phone is stuck on the new multi color (4 dots) boot screen after flashing 4.4.
Can anyone help me figure out how to get the proper radio on this phone? I don't know what else to try.

manually wipe data and cache using fastboot
make your phone boot into bootloader mode and connect to pc
on pc open fastboot and type fastboot erase cache and fastboot erase userdata, if there are erros probably your phone is eMMC failed, if no erros let it boot for like 20 mins
It works now, I relocked the bootloader en reboot. Then unlocked and into revovery wiped everything. Flashed all and worked.

Oh your running the stock recovery........
If you are rooted, you should have Clockworkmod.
Try using ADB to force the CWM recovery.
idk what ABD is?
Adb and cwm**
You rooted and ROMed, yet don't know what ADB is?
CWM is short for Clockworkmod, a alternative recovery that you should have installed when you ROMed.
I am going to need to more details before I can properly help you.
Edit: ADB is like MS-DOS, but for Android. It gets you out of every problem all of the time. It's good to know when rooting and ROMing.
well thanks for all your help man but after 2 days of this i just ordered a new phone, thanks though! i appreciate it.
That sucks. Well glad I could be of some help at least. Did you send back the D2?
Hopefully you have learned something from all this.
I decided to unroot my S4 seeing as though a rom I had flashed was screwing around with my system. I eventually was able to flash a stock rom via kies, but now the phone is stuck at the boot screen (Samsung logo with blue light).
I have tried booting into recovery mode, but for some reason after 5 seconds, it just ignores it and goes into standard boot, something that it has done since I flashed the bad rom.
Would anyone know a fix for this?
Thanks in advance.
An update. I managed to get into recovery mode but instead of the normal android with the blue square, the android is on the ground with a red triangle. I've wiped cache and data, but still getting stuck at the boot screen.
Some help would be appreciated.

There is a 50/50 chance that if you go back into twrp/cwm custom recovery
and do a "factory reset" it would boot up normally unless you also wiped
"system".
Good luck!

Flash a stock firmware using odin in download mode then see if it reboots
If not go to stock recovery after that factory reset and wipe cache reboot
Hello, i had a lot of troubles with battery drains recently, by curiosity i wanted to restore my stock backup.
So i did and the phone was stuck during rom boot.
So i wanted to go back to TWRP to fix things but instead it went back to stock recovery.
Okay, so i wanted to flash TWRP again but after flashing the recovery.img,
nothing happens when i enter fastboot reboot
I forced shutdown and re tried many times with other twrp files, always the same issue i cannot reboot with the flashed recovery ! ! !
please HELP
To boot to recovery, shut down the phone, press volume up + power button, when the phone vibrate release the buttons and it will boot to recovery.
The command "fastboot reboot" will just reboot normally the phone.
sorry but my problem is that i cannot reboot in twrp anymore, it always reboot on STOCK recovery !
dunno what to do i got to meet foreign customers tomorrow without my phone i dunno how i'll do, so unlucky it happened to me today
i even tried flashing on another computer, and trying to restore with stock recovery or huawei app but none are working.
to make it clear, i can just fastboot.
so what should i flash to restore/unbrick my phone ? don't care if i lose data, just need to call tomorrow !
edit: some folks say to put update.app in load folder on sd card then boot with the three buttons but which update.app file should i copy ? i got a VNS-L31 should the SD card be in FAT32 ?
Are you sure you flashed TWRP? Try to download it again and flash it from fastboot mode.
yes sure i did it like 20 times this afternoon, i'm trying to fix it for 5 hours lol
in fact i just was able to boot the restore .app while booting with the three buttons, it's installing updates, hope it will fix all the partitions/recovery/boot/system... and all those necessary stuffs
edit: finally huawei animated boot logo is showing UP !
On which firmware are you and which TWRP did you tried?

i was using meticulous TWRP v3 and some of his builds for several months and i had trouble with those roms.
so i restored my stock backup and everything was not working anymore, each i tried flashing it always went back on stock recovery a every reboot, impossible to flash twrp anymore...
looks like the phone is stuck in a boot loop lol pfffft
edit:
FYI what i just tried is restoring this image http://consumer.huawei.com/lk/support/products/downloads/huawei-p9-lite-lk.htm (the first one ASIA) but the phone is still booting looks like a fail, could it be incompatible ?
I see.
If you managed to restore with the update.app and the 3 buttons, everything should be fine. It will take some time to boot up, so just wait for a while. Also the bootloader probably re-locked so you will need to unlock it again.

it can relock ? i will check !
if it does not work should i fast boot flash system.img, recovery.img, cust.img, cache.img and boot.img ?
I think the best thing to do should be a factory reset from recovery, stock is fine, then reboot and wait for 15-20 minutes. If the update.app succefully installed there should be no problem

You're welcome
I had my phone rooted on old Oreo version and wanted to reinstall the latest factory image. While I was doing this my laptop got a BSOD and the installation didn't fully finish. I redid the install but now my phone is in a bootloop. It will go past the Google logo but afterwards will loop on the dead Android guy with the ''No command'' message, same happens when I try to enter recovery mode. Is there something I can do?
I would flash TWRP and try wiping all including internal. Sounds like one of the partions is corrupted. You could do it with fastboot in bootloader mode but not sure of the commands.

You're probably not used to the stock recovery. The no command droid is normal. Watch this video, and see if you can get to recovery or bootloader.
So a while ago I had dirty flashed the Oreo update from this link: OREO open to give it a try and see if I could actually get away with a dirty installation. Phone was working ok but battery drain has been enormous, around 30-50% worse than with Android 7.1 especially on idle so I thought ok time to do a proper factory reset by wiping everything (Dalvik, cache, system).
Now, I selected Factory Reset from within the OS (not TWRP) but during the first reboot it booted into TWRP asking me for decryption password, I did a wipe so it forgot all about it but now it only boots into TWRP no matter if I do an Advanced Factory Reset wiping everything via TWRP's menu, phone starts, shows the LG logo for a couple of sec and then TWRP screen shows up.
I am thinking I should flash a stock Oreo recovery in order for the boot to the OS but not 100% sure if this will cause more trouble.

Flash the oreo update zip from westwood or zefie. You can find it in the rom and development section. Search for v20a

Thanks but being impatient, I tried flashing the stock recovery. This seemed to free the booting and reset process, phone showed the LG logo, then for 2 seconds "Deleting" then LG Logo again and I thought the factory reset was in progress. After like half an hour still stuck in LG logo I realized I've probably soft bricked it. Phone only starts and gets stuck in LG Logo. So I entered bootloader and re-flashed TWRP but unfortunately now I can't find a way to boot into recovery (the irony). Phone just starts and gets stuck in LG logo forever, only thing i can do is use Power+Vol down to reboot into bootloader but no way to boot into recovery or even shut it off. Any way to enter recovery at this state and flash the OREO zip?
I realize I should have just waited for instructions but coming from consecutive unlocked Nexus devices i thought the steps and processes would be similar...
Try to discharge the phone completely (to shut it off) and enter download mode (I don't know any other method to do it). With LG UP flash stock kdz from your model, if you search a bit you will find it. This should work. If it don't work I've seen a couple of posts with the same problem as yours, search for the solution there, but if you can enter download mode it should work LG UP.

Thanks for the quick reply. With a bit of Googling I found that you can use volume down to enter stock recovery. This confused me as when I did it I expected to see the TWRP welcome screen. Instead I saw the stock recovery screen which only gives you the option to do factory reset. I did it and then rebooted again into recovery and all of a sudden I saw the TWRP screen! I remember there is something weird with how TWRP sticks to the system or not, again very confusing compared to Nexus devices. Anyway, since I managed to enter Recovery I copied the OREO flashable zip to internal memory and flashed and phone booted fine, now I am waiting to set up a fresh 8.0 installation :good:
