[Q] 120fps 1080p video support? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I believe that the Snapdragon 800 msm8974 CPU SoC used by the G2 supports video encoding up to 120fps 1080p video or 30fps 4K video. Indeed the Note 3 which also uses the Snapdragon 800 can record 4k. Whilst 4k recording isnt of much use at the moment, 120fps 1080p video would be!
Any thoughts on whether an app can be developed to tap into that functionality or would it require a firmware update from LG?
Thanks

Would love to know this as well

Is the camera even capable of it?

Bump! - ya, why did LG not include 120fps? the hardware fully supports it..
Im swapping my Note 3 for a G2 as soon as VZW drops the white one, and no 120fps kinda bums me out.

Bump again. I was reading a review on AnandTech and they said LG only enabled up to 1080p60 since the sensor can handle it. Does that mean the sensor can't handle 1080p120? What about 720p120? A friend of mine showed me the slow-mo on his 5s and it looked better than the slo-mo we can do on the G2, which I'm assuming is because of the 120fps. Would love 120fps, even if it's at 720p. It would be something I would root this phone for.

Slow mo?

Yeah, what happens is that the video is shot at 120fps and he slowed the video down, similar to how we can slow play speed. The video is played at 60fps in slo-mo and looked a lot smoother and less grainy than the video on the G2.

I'd like to know too if our device(D802) can hande [email protected] as [email protected] is quite the same amount of data to process

I've seen a modified camera app for the lg g2 here on XDA. The developer tried to make more than 60 fps and in the next version of the changelog he put it back to 60 fps cause LG "limits" the fps to 60. Too bad.

But he says that is an HW limit or it's limited by SW? :crying:

1) Back Camera Records 720P Videos @ 90 FPS. [Broken- Max FPS limited by LG is 60]
You can check it out at (V_2.5.6 EXPT_3 Details):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471900

LG G2 has Sony IMX135 sensor which support max:
1080p30 (HDR) | 1080p60 | 720p60
So LG is not blocking anything it is HW related thing!

The Samsung Note 3 that records 4k vids also has the Sony IMX135 sensor:
http://image-sensors-world.blogspot.se/2013/10/samsung-galaxy-note-3-features-latest.html
Anandtech is usually correct too:
"There’s an IMX135 sensor inside the Note 3..."
"On the video side of the Note 3 we have an interesting new addition, 4k30 (or UHD) video record support, alongside both 1080p60 and 720p120"
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7376/samsung-galaxy-note-3-review/6
/EDIT
A mod for the Note 3 allows 4k recording up to 100Mbit!
Over 4Gbyte on exFAT cards, though not an option on the G2.

[Q] Bad quality 4K recording.

I bought myself a Note 3(N9005, 32GB version) few days ago, but since the beginning I have had a problem with recording 4K videos. To be exact, it doesn't record at the promised 45-50 mbps bitrate, instead it records at 10 mbps or even lesser bitrate. So my question would be, how can I fix that?
All the other featured modes are working flawlessly. Would really appreciate some help. The phone is not rooted or customized in any way.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, under the video resolution section I chose 3840x2160. Is there supposed to be some more options to improve the quality?

Do you have a 4k TV if not you won't see any difference between 4k then 1080p

Downscaled 4K looks much better though, so there is a huge benefit in making 4K videos. Anyway it seems like those crappy units of Note 3-s made their way only to Estonia, since me and shizny are both from Estonia and there is no more information about that problem on the internet, atleast I couldn't find absolutely nothing on such weirdness.
Actually jaythenut is correct. Though the Note 3 is capable of recording video for playback on a 4K TV your device having only a 1080p display is not going to appear different at all.
The Note 3 plays back recorded 4K Video in 1080p on both the phone and any other playable media device as it can't process anything higher than that.
Your better off recording videos in 1080p at the now 60f/s.

no one is right.
quality of recorded videos playback is not the same as seen on youtube, by other peeps recordings.
check the quality, bitrate of 4K recorded video on my device is 6000kbps, 1080p is 15000kbps.
If you think a little logically then how come 4K recorded video is worse than 1080p? Even the playback quality is worse, not only on the device itself, but also on monitor.
Have you ever watched 1080p video on 720 display? Any difference? Video is crispy and detailed, Now how about 520p video on 1080p screen?
Now this is the same as my 4K recording on 1080p screen.
Either the device is faulty and cannot record/play 4K videos or sample videos made on youtube are actually 1080p.
This is really strange. I'm from Estonia as well and I'm facing the exact same problems. All my 4K videos look like 240p ones or even worse.
(Can't post the full YT links because of my postcount, but here's the v-codes)
watch?v=4iEt7lGGPqk- 4K sample
watch?v=4fryaJ6cfw4 - 1080p sample for comparison
I can't find anything on the internet regarding this subject, does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on? I sent an email to Samsung support about this as well.
the same problem here (lithuania), firmware N9005XXUBMJ1

Same here. 4K recording quality (and, of course, bitrate) is awful. Videos looks like 240p.

EDIT: Ok, it seems that this is common issue with particular batch of this model (maybe it only affects the Baltic countries), and service centers are aware of this problem.

Awesome video potential

I've just videoe my TV screen (with ceiling light above me too)
The stock camera app recording was fuzzy around the edge (grainy) and the TV picture wasn't that clear at all (was half zoomed in)
So then I used the LG camera app. Turned FPS to 60 and rate to 10mbit... EPIC!
Yes it uses more space, but the quality is amazing!
Anybody wanting to test video capability, download LG camera app, set FPS to 60 and check it out! (it doesn't look, great until you start recording)
Am just uploading a sample, video which is on highest settings in LG camera app. It's a whopping 250mb for just under a minute!!

then 60fps not supported, I just checked it out, 1 file on 30fps and 17mbit, the other file at 60fps and at 60mbit or whatever it was. Both files are at 29fps, so until sony adds a [email protected], I don't think it will be supported.

That is something else, fps means frames per second and i have just checked on my pc and the videos max out at 30.1fps.
Well in this case Hz and fps actually are the same, as long as we are talking about the captured framerate and not the outputted one, which can very well differ.
Still you're right! MX Player is detecting bull****, Media Info on my PC does show 29,716 fps.
Would have liked it to by different though, 60fps would have been great for some slowmo action

nah im sorry Hz and fps are 2 completly different things.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hertz
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_rate
MX player indicated correctly, it just didnt show you fps
Hz describes a frequency and just means "per second" and normally when I use it to describe framerates people do understand what I mean, even if fps is the better word
If you take a look at my earlier Screenshot you will see that MX Player never claimed it to be Hz, it just says "Bildfrequenz", which means framerate, and does not use any unit.
you're right, the quality seems much better with lgCamera. :good:
EDIT: also took some pictures but the quality of them does not seem to be improved.
Well either way, whether it improves FPS or not (which I didn't check it.actually did), it does improve the video massively. That video was captured using the highest bitrate, which is what defines the quality of the video
video. You don't have to use maximum setting all the time, but it truly is much better than the stock app.

About 4K recording in AM7

I found that AM7 is using imx214,it supports 4K video recording in 30fps, the SoC also supports 4K
Although 4K recording is not necessary, but it can give us a better experience.
I hope that Huawei can support 4K recording in the later update.
Yep I noticed that to, maybe with some modifications software wise it could be possible
Sent from my SM-N910C using XDA Free mobile app
Would count on that from some third party provider/software, definitely not on HUAWEI.
Yes,we are all waiting for the third party rom, hope they can provide 4K recording.
Also, hope that Huawei can release update for L09 and unlock bootloader faster cuz we want a better experience in some third party rom.

Is it hard to develope 4k to Mate 7 via a rom?k
Also why arent there any roms to this phone? Alot of people have bought it, but no roms. Why?

Nope it isnt even if you have an 1080p tv/monitor a 4k file is less compressed with makes it look better

One ohter reason is for the future, it is very nice to look ten years later video recorded in 4k then 1080p on the tv with the resolution we are going to have then.

G4 plus 1080p 60fps record mod

Hi guys, G4 plus for is there any 1080p 60fps application and mod ?
I don't think there's hardware to encode 1080p at 60fps and the CPU is not strong enough for software encoding. I don't know if even 720p can be done.
Stock slowmotion is something like 540p so 1080p is so much larger than that even 60fps is not feasible

Similar characteristics phones making 1080P 60fps, I think g4 plus is enough. for example; samsung galaxy s5 making record 1080p 60fps, even doing the 2160p 30fps
The processor we have does support video recording up to 1080p 60FPS. However, I do not know whether other hardware on the device inhibits that or not.

Recording 1080p video with 60fps?

Dear community,
our HTC U Ultra cannot record 1080p with 60fps by default. However, the snapdragon 821 is capable of recording fullhd with this framerate as other phones with this cpu proof.
Is there there any way or app to enable fullhd with 60fps?
I have tried several apps like Filmic Pro, Open Camera and cinema fv-5 already and none of these apps allow to enable 60 fps.
Is there another way?
Thank you.

Thank you very much madphone for pointing me in the right direction The Google Camera App with HDR+ works perfect for my needs and produces beautiful 1080p60 videos!
For videos the viewfinder works also very smooth. For pictures the viewfinder is laggy, as mentioned in the linked thread.
Video files are always safed to the internal storage but as the ulra has at least 64gb of internal storage the videos can be manually copied to the sdcard from time to time.
btw: I am aslo still on android 7.0 at the moment with a european device.

well this sucks cuz this phones hardware is totally capable of 1080p 60 fps but for some ****ing reason HTC doesnt allow us !:crying:
alright so i have tried the google camera app and yes it record 1080p 30 fps even when i choose 60 fps but i did notice something really weird. when choose 60 fps the video size is always and i mean always way bigger than when i choose 30 fps i dont really know why this is the case and am really confused because i come out with 2 identical videos with the same frame rate at the same resolution and when is about more than 60% larger than the other! so i dont know howto explain that
one more thing is that it might actually be a hardware problem maybe the sensor isnt capable of 1080p 60 am just assuming as i dont really know any way if any of you guys found any thing that could help us out with this problem please let us know
and have a nice day
Maybe the metadata is just wrong. I will try later.
