So now I am little bit confused.
Downloaded the OTA update from the Google server copied it to my N7, applied the update from within TWRP 2.6.3.1.
In fact, it was running through until almost the end (I thought, wow, finally an update which works).
But then Error message:
"Error executing updater binary in zip 'sdcard/goomanager/13088e35942c77e4752aa1fdf51d54472509b941.signed-nakasi-KRT16O-from-JWR66Y.13088e35'

Reboot System brings me back to Recovery TWRP.
Somehow I have no clue what to do next.
Can give someone a hint?
Cheers

i am in the same boat
Not really helpful, but I found a post that TWRP could be the culprit. (maybe doesn't work in CWM also)
Found some comments here: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/11/1...krt16o-official-update-for-nexus-7-2012-wifi/
I boot now into the bootloader, try to flash from there

TWRP is fine. Myself and others have installed the OTA via TWRP without issue. Did you download the OTA with Goomanager? I can't think of another reason the OTA zip would be in there, but let me know otherwise.
If that is the case, download the ota http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_nakasi/13088e35942c77e4752aa1fdf51d54472509b941.signed-nakasi-KRT16O-from-JWR66Y.13088e35.zip from Google's servers, push it to /sdcard/Download/ via adb and try again.
Thanks, but I downloaded from the Google server.

Yup that is what I had to do. I flashed the factory image with WugFresh's NRT. I accidentally deleted the OS as well from my tab. Thankfully I had saved a copy of TB on my PC. TB saves the day yet again. However, I was still not able to sideload the OTA for KitKat. I keep getting Error: Device not found error message on command prompt? I guess I'll wait for the factory image to be uploaded by Google and then flash the files.
Related
I have kepy my Nexus 7 fairly stock - it's just been unlocked and rooted with Clockwork recovery.
However, when I try to apply the 4.1.2 update, I get the following:
Code:
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Wallet.apk" ,"(numbers)", "(more numbers)")
Because I am in the UK, I did play with a modified version of Google wallet for a while.
I got this message during both OTA update process or by manually trying to install the update apk.
I deleted the modified wallet.apk from system/app and then used Market enabler to install the "official" google wallet app.
Still no luck.
I then tried clearing dalvik and cache, and an entire factory reset.
Still get the above error message.
So does anyone know how a file that doesn't even exist anymore in /system/app is causing the error?
Any clever ideas on what to do next?
You put this in the wrong section. This should be in Q/A. Are you tring to update through OTA, or a manual update through CWM?

Tried both ways, same result both times.
OTA update rebooted me straight into CWM recovery, and with the manual update method, I booted into CWM recovery and tried to apply the downloaded apk.
The wallet.apk needs to be in system/app.
Not data/app as it is when installed from the play store.

That was more or less my next option. Although in that case, I'd be more inclined to just directly flash 4.1.2 stock.

Hello mates,
this morning my nexus 7-wifi (unlocked bot not rooted. w/ CWM) said me there is a system update for new android os. Kitkat.
Then i install the update without getting any CWM backup.
Zip file started to be installed in CWM and it processed all install. steps successfully.
However when the progress bar reach to %100, it said something like "...status 7.... installation aborted" (do not remember clearly).
And after reboot i come across a new boot animation (kitkat's new animation i think) which does not end up to a system start or an error message.
Now,
what should i do to complete installation of kitkat?
Thanks in advance.

I did the same exact thing that you did and experienced the same error. Luckily, I came across a stickied thread, ""Flashing a factory image with fastboot / return to stock" and followed the instructions EXACTLY and.. it worked! It took me back to 4.3 which was great because at lease tablet was working again! (I had tried everything else I could think of!) What was funny was that within 2 minutes of the tablet up and running again I received the OTA push for 4.4!
I would strongly suggest following the instructions posted in the thread I mentioned above as they worked perfectly.

Hello buddy,
thank you for the feedback. But i do not want to lose my data in the tablet. So, first i will try to fix this without wiping data.
Currently i install adb files to my pc.
And i managed to find the zip file i need to upgrade from 4.3 to 4.4 without losing any data.
If i can flash this zip file via adb i will be ok. but i cannot flash it via adb, because of the recovery i am using (i think ). With CWM i could not do that. after adb sideload **********.zip command, it says "error: device not found"
now i am looking for a solution to this error.
But if i could have had my tablet open in stock recovery, it might already be solved.
PROBLEM SOLVED.
HERE IS THE STEPS TAKEN:
DOWNLOAD OTA FILE FROM 4.3 TO 4.4 (NOT FACTORY IMAGE).
DOWNLOAD LATEST SDK, RUN SETUP.
PUT THE OTA FILE IN sdk\platform-tools DIRECTORY.
SIDELOADING THE OTAFILE:
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/02/1...date-a-nexus-without-root-or-custom-recovery/
IF YOUR DEVICE IS NOT RECOGNIZED DURING SIDELOADING CHECK THIS:

Does this work on a rooted nexus?
Only reason I'm asking is cause the sideloading link states "..to update nexus without root..."
I have a Nexus 7 (2012) with 4.4, rooted, TWRP 2.6.0.0. I'm trying to update to the 4.4.2 OTA update, but it's not working. Whether I run it from the system notification prompt or try to install the file manually (in /cache) via TWRP, it fails with this error:
"/system/fonts/Roboto-Bold.ttf" has unexpected contents.
Then it says there's an error executing the updater binary, an error flashing zip file, etc. All the standard stuff when it bombs out of an install.
I did change my font using ROM Toolbox Pro a while back, but I restored the original font and tried running it again. Still got the error. I tried downloading a fresh copy of the .ttf file and replacing the one in /system/fonts, but still got the error. It seems a little silly for the whole update to crash due to a font file, but whatever...
Can anyone help me figure out what's going on, and how to get this OTA to install properly? Thanks in advance!
Probably it's easier to flash the 4.4.2 factory image resp. system.img and boot.img of it manually than trying to recover the correct 4.4 state.
There are already some posts where I described how to do it and there is also a post in my blog describing the process.

Well, after every failure, it reboots and goes right back to functioning perfectly as it was on 4.4. But, I will consider the direct flash of 4.4.2 if no one else has any other suggestions. Thanks!

Android Central has the log change. It's bug fixes really.
Also, in this thread a user states that apparently only with the full 5.0.1 can you install it with CWM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shi...p-nvidia-shield-tablet-ota-android-5-t2982677
You will lose root and CWM after the reboot but those took about 3 minutes to get back .. easy peasy. I'm now at 5.0.1 on my shield with root and CWM.
Cheers.
Hello aegern,

So here's what I did:
Download the full OTA then reboot to CWM (assuming your rooted + recovery) and unmount system partition ( I believe all others were unmounted) and then delete system, data, cache partitions respectively. Then flash the OTA zip followed by latest supersu.
Just tested this method and I have a rooted 5.01 32GB LTE US model working flawlessly. Even managed to take out the top spot in Hwbot Prime for the Shield (woops to newb for links I see lol)

So, did it work for you? I've tried the file in both this link and the official update and get the same thing with both. I'm still on KK and I can't install either the 5.0 or the 5.01 updates. I get the same "this is an ardbeg" error with any update I try to flash, and I'm flashing the full files, not the incremental updates. In fact, I have two tablets (both lte) and I updated the first one to 5.0 a week ago, no problem, but the new one I just bought, I can't even though I'm using the same files (cwm and update). I'm stumped.
Bah. nm. I went back and reinstalled the recovery from here again, http://forum.xda-developers.com/shi.../recovery-cwm-recovery-nvidia-shield-t2848064. Flashed 5.01 just fine. Not sure where I got the other recovery.

Hi dgjenkins, sorry answer so late. So, answering you first, not, it did not work for me. I actually did give up, the bad was that I tried so many ways to do it that I freezed the tablet and did not start again. Well, looking out there, I found this amazing video who saved my tablet of bust it again the wall and start from the original firmware.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsMo1tPlIFU
I did intal the Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Copy the image files in to the Minimal ADB and Fasboot directory c:\Programs Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Ope Minimal ADB and Fastboot
-Type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
-Type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
-Type: fastboot flash system system.img
-Type: fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
-Type: fastboot flash staging blob
-Type: fastboot flash dtb tegra124-tn8-p1761-1270-a04-e-battery.dtb
And done . I can now install the updates from the stock firmware. Maybe I will root it again once a stable way to root the shield tablet appear out there. :cyclops:
Happy Holidays and Thanks for the interest! :good:
Nvidia updates definitely trump Android ones. These days, Google is in the habit of pretending that a nexus 5 camera bug is worthy of a new Android version (that was KitKat) or that an update is a great place to break functionality (App Ops, also with KitKat). Anything that's not a minor version with updates you know you want... Avoid on a non Nexus unless you have a great reason for it.
Manufacturers besides Google, see, they do this thing I like to call quality control. They generally release an OS that is ready for the hardware and software*. Crazy, right?
* unless that hardware is, say, the pen
I have a Nexus 7 (2012, grouper) which so far I have kept on 4.1.2 (JZO54K) using FOTAkill, but now I want to update to 4.2.2. I also have the latest CWM recovery (6.0.4.3).
I plan on applying successively:
094f6629314a.signed-nakasi-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.094f6629.zip
then
659e6288b87d.signed-nakasi-JOP40D-from-JOP40C.659e6288.zip
then
6ece895ecb23.signed-nakasi-JDQ39-from-JOP40D.6ece895e.zip
Using ADB I tried to apply the first update, but it fails. I also tried applying it from /sdcard, but the same thing happens. The error message happens after "verifying current system..." and it consists of:
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Browser/ProviderProxy.odex", "21a896ab...
E: Error in /data/media/094f6629314a.signed-nakasi-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.094f6629.zip
(status 7)
I tried downloading the zip update again, but it still fails. I downloaded it from http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-nakasi-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.094f6629.zip
Does the fact that by bootloader is locked have anything to do with this error?
...and the answer is no. Even with bootloader unlocked, the update still fails with the same error.
