No. You need to read up on SafeStrap if you want to flash ROM's. If you flash over your stock MF3 ROM, you will brick it.
Thanks ! Is this something they are working on or have they given up? Also any word if the new 4.3 update is going to have the same issue as far as flashing over it? Thanks again

Hello,
I am new to the S4 and would like to know what roms are safe to flash on MF3? I have it rooted with twrp installed ready to go but not sure on what roms can be flashed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can flash TW based roms with safe strap on MF3.
What twrp are you talking about?
Only recovery that you can use afaik is safestrap--although it is loosely based on twrp.
If you flashed twrp from goo mgr you may not really have it--
Just saying for FYI and your protection--I do not need it so not up on the latest--but still
also if you haven't there are several threads on safestrap and mf3 that will answer all your questions--
good luck
Thanks!
And do not try to flash twrp on mf3 as stated above you must use safe strap. Trying to flash other recoveries will brick u
Hi All,
Am using an i337M S4 from Rogers here in Canada and was wondering if it was possible to use ODIN and try out the new leaked 4.4 firmware. Is rooting required to achieve this?

First you must be certain the leak is for i337m model becuase there is the international version and the US version which are both different from the model you have (I have the same but Telus). Now as far as the files, if they are in .tar format then you can flash via Odin, if thet are .zip then you need a custom recovery to flash them. I know for certain you need to root to go the custom recovery route, I think you need to be rooted to flash they system files in Odin also (which if it is a stock rom you are flashing would loose root following the flash). Depending of the root method you choose be aware also that you may trip the Knox counter also, definately if you install a custom recovery. There a number of 4.4 roms for the i337m already that are not stock and are rooted, you may want to look at these also. Most importantly... before you attempt anything read...read ... read... there are pity falls you can end up in if you don't pay close attention......

Thanks for the reply .. actually I had a S2 before which was rooted and I used many different ROMs on it. I did root the S4 once as well but then lost it when I did the 4.3 update. Since then I never tried to re-root, is there an easy way too root right now for the i337M with 4.3?
If you are on stock unrooted 4.3 you should get official 4.4 update soon.
Also, questions go in the qna section not the development section

If you wait for the update you will likely be waiting longer for a root solution... if you want to root the phone, look up chainfire's CF-auto root for i337m
Hi everyone. I'm picking up an at&t i337 that's running the stock JB 4.2.2 UCUAMDL firmware, and has not been yet upgraded to 4.3. I intend to flash a custom recovery, ROM, kernel and I want to flash the MJ6 modem. Here's my question; if I flash a 4.4.2 AOSP ROM, can I safely flash the MJ6 modem that comes from 4.3? I'm running the MJ6 modem on my other S4 thats on the MK6 firmware with safestrap, and it's giving me great reception, downloads, etc.
Thanks,
Mike
Yes. If you root your amdl phone and put a custom recovery on it you can flash what ever you want through it.
I used motochopper method back when I did it. It puts root and twrp on for you

Hi all,
I am interested in the CM11 ROM. Last night I spent 6hrs trying and failed, epically.
Here is what I did already:
1. Downgraded from 4.4.2 back to factory
2. Successfully rooted
3. Installed ROM Manager
4. Successfully downloaded CM11 and latest GApps
Then when I tried to boot into recovery it kept going to a screen with a little android guy lying on his back with a red triangle!!! I tried six times.
I got frustrated and just updated back to 4.4.2 and have been dealing with it. I am still rooted and have been able to remove my bloatware and other things you need root access for.
Any thoughts or help as to how I can install the CM11 rom?? I am happy running NovaLauncher and using DynamicNotifications to approximate it but really want to try out CM11.
Cheers and thanks!
Lucky there is no way to root on 4.4.2 yet or atleast no Recovery's yet it could be worse you're atleast rooted and it didn't brick your phone

Did you actually try flashing a recovery first? Just installing ROM manager won't install the custom recovery needed to flash ROMs. You have to do that step as well.

LG blocked the Loki exploit with 4.4.2 so you can't flash recoveries currently. You'd have to flash back to 4.2.2 to do that. Which if you want custom ROMs now its going to have to be done sooner or later. Which carrier and model number do you have? If you have an international D802 the above post by @zekurosu will work for you, otherwise don't use that one. You're gonna have to find the method for your model number.
My first guess was that you missed the flashing the custom recovery step, which people above me have already helped ya out on. For being new to Android you did fairly well, you just missed that one step.
Good luck!

I have an ATT D800 running 4.4.2. I can't decide whether its worth it to flash back to 4.2.2 to try again. Pretty happy with NovaLauncher + widgetlocke and fairly closely approximates what I am looking for.
For what its worth, I was in 4.2.2 when I tried the first time and failed. I think mackster is right, I didn't flash the custom recovery. I basically flashed back to 4.2.2->rooted->tried to boot into recovery (OVER and OVER) then gave up and upgraded back to 4.4.2.
Thanks for all the help. At least I now have a rooted phone and have been able to do some cool stuff with that. My goal is to get nexus 5 software in an LG G2 body (battery, camera, etc)
@android_nashville There's a way to have the best of both worlds. You can flash back to 4.2.2 (10d preferably) root, flash a custom recovery with Flashify or FreeGee. Both available on the play store. Then actually update to 4.4.2 following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483043. Eventually, if you want to flash custom ROMs you're going to have flash back to 4.2.2 and do this process regardless. The 4.4 aboot image (bootloader) can't be bypassed with Loki. Its been blocked. But some brilliant devs basically found out they can make a hybrid setup, with the 4.2.2 aboot, and everything else 4.4.2. This way you can have the ability to flash custom recovery, kernels and ROMs.
Hey guys i just bought this international exynos note 3 (N900) and i have some questions about it ;
1. I want to install all the roms kernels and mods i could find but in order to do that (I'm %100 stock btw) ,do i need to first unlock the device ( i dont know how i couldnt find it), then root it with CF- Auto root( my warranty is over so i dont need to think about KNOX i think??) Then use the dd method to flash a recovery and flash whatever i want. Am i right about the things i said on all above ? Is there an easier way to do it ?
2. Do KNOX ever prevents me from flashing things in ODIN if something gets triggered ?
3. If i am not right about the first question starting from %100 stock what do i need to do to get this baby rockin ? I'm thinking about flashing a stock lollipop rom with a custom kernel and root ofc. Any suggestions ?
4. Do we need to flash modems from odin ? Because when reading the AryaMods thread i saw something about updating the modem. I'm on 4.4.2 right now. Can we flash modems or even kernels from recovery ?
Thanks already!!

There is no much of roms to choose for this one. 9005 is most supported here.
Root using cf auto root.
Make back up of ta partion/imei.
Flash recovery with odin. Then flash roms in twrp (watch the ere about how to use twrp or YT).
flash stock roms using odin.
Can't i just flash recovery from odin then flash a custom rom after that without rooting ? Thanks!

If you are going to flash roms based on lollipop, update your phone to latest stock rom for your model using odin so you get latest bootloader.
Dude, you need root access to access system and write to it. Don't custom roms require root, if you take a look? (don't answer to this [emoji61] )
If you want that way, flash twrp with ? odin. Then flash supersu for your model using twrp. That way too you get root. Then flash roms after (read rom instructions).
Ask if all wondering. ?

No my question was; not rooting the device in the first place before flashing the recovery and the rom. The roms already comes with the root in it. So just to be clear first upgrade the base to lollipop from odin then flash a recovery and lastly flash a lollipop rom. Would this be your sequence when you just bought a new note 3 ?

Flash latest firmware then custom recovery then flash the custom rom of your choice. No need to root after flash official firmware but it's good to root first as you may want to backup efs before you start messing the phone. I backed up the efs for the past 1.5years but so far never need it.
