[Q] Wifi Tether Settings for Droid Razr M on Paranoid Android - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Yesterday night, I made the switch from stock to Paranoid Android 4.3. I love it! Only issue I'm having is WiFi Tethering. On stock, I was able to modify the Mobile Hotspot App to get tethering to work.
As that app is not in Paranoid Android 4.3, what's the easiest way to get tethering working? I have tried various settings on the TrevE WiFi Tethering apk, but haven't had any success. What are people using and what settings? I looked for a thread for this and didn't find one. Links and assistance appreciated!
Thanks!

are you rooted?
wireless tether works fine. Try disabling encryption and/or access control and see if it works that way
Yes I am rooted but I haven't tried what you suggested. Thanks and I will give that a go.

OK, so I tried everything you told me about but it still doesn't seem to work. Here is my situation, I recently got an iPad and want to use my phone as a hot spot so I can connect on the go. The wireless tether turns on but neither my mothers eve or my iPad seems to connect to it properly. They do connect but it doesn't let me do any kind of web browsing. Thanks again for any help.
Which app and version are you using?

I'm running 2.0.6

Works fine for me... Not sure what the problem would be. Sure access control is off? When you connect your pc, what color is the shield that pops up in your notification bar?

This seems to be the problems on a number of roms. They only way I've been able to get my wifi tether to work is when I've been bone stock. I don't know what might be broken in the process of cooking up the roms for us but something is breaking it. I get the same issue. It connects to my phone but I get no internet signal. Access control and encryption off. Tried changing the ssid and that hasn't worked. They've been tryin to figure out what the problem is on the IRC channel

What rom are you using...I have no problems running wifi tether with mikrom

Again, thanks for all the help. I have tried switching to mikrom and still a no go for me. I have tried everything from changing ssid to trying different channels. Any know of just a rooted bare bone stock rom?
Sent from my Evolution
Not why it doesn't work but now I am on a bare stock rom and still a no go. I have tried connecting my moms evo and it just sits trying to obtain the ip address but for some reason it just never connects.

WiFi tether help

Need help running WiFi tether on rooted galaxy nexus stock jb and I can connect at times but nexus 7 won't actually get connectivity helppp

Have you tried using the native tethering mod? You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1860817
Just flash from recovery and you can just use the stock wifi tethering in the settings menu.
EDIT: I suppose I didn't really answer your question... I know WiFi Tether can be quirky like that (at least back when I used it) but native tethering works great. If you really want to make WiFi Tether work... well I guess I'm no help!

[Q] Wifi Hotspot

I am having a little trouble using my Razr M (Rooted, Stock) for a Wifi hotspot. I've tried several different apps etc and can't seem to get it to work. Can someone please give me a step by step for the BEST way to set it up?
If it matters I am trying to connect to my Nexus 7 (wifi only).

What settings did you use on the Motorola Razr M? I have the WiFi Tether for root users installed on my Motorola Razr M. I see the SSID name I selected in the list of what to connect to, however every time I try to connect to it it says "authentication error" and will not connect. (I have tried to connect a computer, Nook, Kindle Fire HD, and Asus Transformer TF300T, if it matters.)
I have to do an "entitlement check mod"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1981625
In order for me to even use the build in Wifi Hotspot.
Not sure if that is the issue ?
What about using a USB cable to physically tether to the phone, then using the phone's Internet connection?

Tether (Solved)

*Problem solved, see Verizon Development thread
Has anyone had success editing sqlite database to allow native tether or find a working a third party app...beside foxfi (haven't tried it yet). I tried all my usual options on wifi tether and couldn't get it going. Someone with more knowledge of sqlite could probably get native tether working pretty easily.

I have foxfi and usb tether works but I can't get Wi-Fi tether to work. No combination of trev mod had worked for me

Same here, i found some things in sqlite that look like they might do it, but without a custom recovery and a backup...not going to try

I thought "ES File explorer" helps. Tools --> Net Manger--> Create a hotspot Network.
Please let me know if it doesn't.
Mine just says turning on.it just sits there with no activity

I also cannot get any 3rd party wireless tether apps to work.
I've tried multiple settings as well with Google's hotspot. No avail. My G2 has been rooted
Verizon
same here. No luck with anything. VZW verison. I had also started a thread but I guess i'll close it down since there's more activity here.
This is pretty interesting because VZW lost the lawsuit and the loss meant they werent allowed to block third party tether apps.
Has anyone tried Barnacle?

I tried barnacle and got this message:
"WIFI: Could not set ad-hoc mode of wlan0: Operation not supported on trasnport endpoint
Could not connect to NAT, will retry later
Running..."
but nothing happens. It doesn't even broadcast a signal.
Did you guys get the message that "wifi is in control shutting down" on wifi tether
Or something to that effect

i can usually get the google android tether app to work on most rooted phones, just play around with the settings and try changing the phone model under the settings tab. https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/

It fails to run. On the log error under "Setting ad-hoc" it shows as failed, which is the same problem barnicle is having
Did you guys do a couple of things required on the Razr HD to get it to work.
You need to do the sqlite entitlement database modification. -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800796&page=2
Did those of you trying to use WiFi Tether change the profile???
Also you can backup the sqlite database, just in case you are worried about changing anything.
I don't have the phone yet, but plan to get one.
Has anyone had any luck??
i tried with my tmobile and the same. cant get wifi tether to work with a 3rd party app.
Tried USB tether with Foxfi on my Verizon G2 and it worked flawlessly but I kept hitting the usage cap since its a free version . pretty much useless for me.
WIshed Wifi tether worked.
Man, I was thinking about getting the g2 but not so sure if I can't get wifi tether to work! Definitely staying tuned. Anyone try hotspot control?
Shoot.
If I can't tether with this, back to the store it goes.
Give it time guys, the phone just came out a couple days ago. I'm surprised we have root already, it took the Moto X/ULTRA/MAXX weeks to get rooted.
As far as tethering, I tried using Portable WiFi Hotspot which is just a toggle to the built in tethering, which works on my Note 2, but didn't do anything on the G2. Then I downloaded Wireless Tether for Root Users and it looks like it works, it shows it started and I see 0.6Kb of data being sent but it never actually creates a wireless network.

Native WiFi tethering

Anyone have a way to enable the built in tethering on d800 att version. I changed tether entitlement check value to 0 rebooted and tried to enable tethering and it failed. I kept trying and eventually lost use of my hone button. Wiped and tried again with same results. Thanks for any help

I'm a little surprised that this hasn't been figured out yet, and not really talked about for the AT&T version. It looks as if it's been solved for the Verizon version though. FoxFi tether to my laptop is the only thing working for me at the moment. I did use the bluetooth tether via FoxFi with my Nexus 7, but it seemed a little unstable, and couldn't seem to access everything. For example it would access the Play store, but not allow a download.
