G2 ISIS SIM Card - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone used this new SIM? Or is it just a gimmick? I just put my existing SIM in my G2 and it's working perfectly.

All an isis sim is one that has a security chip built in so Verizon and att phones can use isis their version of mobile payments. This is why Verizon, att and t mobile block Google wallet.

NFC will work just fine, but NFC payments through Google Wallet will not work. All the NFC SIM card is, is a secure element that the Payment application talks to during a transaction. Google Wallet only works with embedded secure elements on the phone it's self, where as ISIS works with the secure element on the SIM card.
All of this won't matter anymore though once we get Kit-Kat ROMs on our G2's! 4.4 comes with Host Card Emulation (HCE), which is basically a secure element in the cloud. This will then open up all NFC capable phones to using Google Wallet or any other NFC payment app that supports HCE.

[Q] How to remove AT&T Wi-Fi Hotspot Account Checker?

Does anyone know how to remove AT&T's stupid account checker that runs when you enable the Mobile Hotspot? I have a SIM unlocked (company paid full price) SGH-I337 and I travel internationally and have SIMs for Vodafone, Bell, etc., but the Mobile Hotspot won't work with any other SIM. I'm assuming its because of AT&T's account validation. What do you guys think?

Try that. You'll need root though.

The SIM card may be locked to the device it was activated on. I suggest going to a T-Mobile store to see if they can help.

i tried 3 sim card ... DId they lock all the sim cards?? .. thanks for the suggest i will go to t mobile today
It is likely that they lock the cards to the device that the card is activated with. It seems like it is the only possible reason that you can't use T-Mobile cards.

I went to t-mobile. They tried another sim car and the phones was the same no sim... the said that the problem was with the phone cuz the sim cards are news and working on other phones... i dont know why the problem is only with t-mobile sim cards.. they say that if the phone was from t-mobile they could change me for another phone but it is at&t.... do u you think that it will be any problem if i go to at&t and tell the that my phone is unlocked but it doesnt read t-mobiles' sim cards
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
They could help. Might as well try. It is a very weird situation. If other SIM cards are working with it, it shouldn't be the phone...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes the problem is only with t-mobile... but i will take the phone to at&t tomorrow

Is it possible that you didn't unlock all the bands on your device? There is a tutorial around here somewhere that shows how to unlock all the bands for use with absolutely any carrier. From my understanding it is different then just unlocking with a code.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes but it should said invalid sim car or ask me for that code when i insert t-mobile sim card... but the phones says no sim.. it doesnt even read the sim.... and when u unlock with a code i think is like factory unlock cuz my father unlock his phone with a code and his phone works fine

Had no need for it???? If your on Verizon the phone is NOT going to work without it... If you bought it to use the Sim card slot then why not just buy an actual gsm version

i used a knife as well lol, needed the number off it to get the new sim activated on it.
I used tweezers to remove it from the phone
Yeah you def need that card if you're on Verizon. I was having problems because I took my sim out of my note 2 and put it in my 3 and it wasn't working until 30 mins later I figured it out. As soon as you pick up or purchase the phone it auto stops your last sim.

Yes, mine came with a SIM preinstalled. This phone is an absolute pain to remove the SIM from.
I used a small flathead screwdriver to remove it.
Tweezers.

I just used the point of a knife to gently push down on the card and slid it out.
Guys can anyone confirm if the phone is unlocked?
I'm traveling soon to the caribbean and need it unlocked and UMTS 900 to use 3g.

I ordered mine from a local store and they needed your account to pre order. So as soon as they scanned it as picked up it was activated because I had no signal on my note 2. That's how I figured out was preactivated from the store

You guys realize there's a SIM card removal tool in the box, right?
Granted, I couldn't figure out how to use the damned thing for a while. Ended up figuring it out though and using my old SIM.

That is not correct. I'm using the same SIM in my Note 3 that I used in my S4, Note 2, and GNex. The beauty of SIM swapping is awesome for phone addicts.

Made sure my finger was dry then kept sliding my finger across the card really fast to create friction then it slid right out.

Google Wallet Tap & Pay for Kit Kat: How to get it to work on N7!

Tap & Pay now works for Google Wallet for N7 Kit Kat.....IF you get the Nexus 5 version of Wallet!
Which you can find on Phandroid here
Instructions for n00bs: To install, download the .apk file at the webpage link above. MAKE SURE UNKNOWN SOURCES IS CHECKED IN YOUR SECURITY SETTINGS prior to download.
Then run the app and follow the directions in the app to setup Tap & Pay.
Make sure NFC is enabled and you have an internet connection when attempting payment (have the Wallet app showing when you are ready for payment.)
I just bought McDonald's with it....using their WiFi!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
thanks and yes, after installing that apk and setting it up, Wallet does now appear in tap & pay. I'll try it out. Thanks
I seem to remember a blog post and thread here how NFC could not work with Wallet on the new N7. I disagreed because the hardware is there and the security can be emulated in software. This workaround proves it. I'm going to McDonald's tonight .
Thanks

How can you make a payment without an Internet connection? :what: If that was the case, you make a payment offline, factory reset your tablet before it connects again. In theory, you won't get charged then, right?

No. Your device communicates your payment data via NFC. The element receiving that data actually executes the charge. Your device doesn't need to connect to the internet anymore than your credit cards need to connect to the internet.

I understand now. The NFC chip replaces your card, it's equivalent to swiping your credit card, got it, thanks buddy.

...thought the app told me to have an internet connection. How else does the app retrieve your credit card info?
Granted, it COULD be stored directly in the app...but then that poses a security risk, I would think

Almost as risky as storing your credit card info on a plastic card in your billfold. Someone nips that and they have all they need to charge your account!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Guys you CAN pay without an internet connection. The Nexus 7 2013 works the same as the Nexus 5, using HCE instead of a secure element. I tried my N5 in airplane mode (with NFC switched back on) a couple days ago at CVS and it worked fine. As soon as I turned off airplane mode the transaction details downloaded.
Now while the transaction will work without internet Wallet now requires an internet connection to PIN unlock! So if there is no service in the store unlock it before going in. If you're feeling more daring you can use 1 day or no PIN timeout for wallet and not have to worry about internet connectivity.

One of the new features in KitKat is 'virtual smart cards' which allows them to take the credit card information and essentially create a virtual card that has the same content as your real card. It's protected the same way as your credit card does it. Tap and Pay is actually identical to "chip and pin" just done over NFC. So this duplicates the 'chip' part.
Any way to make this work outside the USA without any crazy hacks?

Same Sim card S5 as in S3?

Can I use the sim card from my S3 in my S5 or is it better to use the sim card the S5 came with. Any benefits / drawbacks one way or the other?
(On AT&T)
Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
Yeah, both are Micro SIMs you'll be able to just swap it over.
Thanks! That's what I figured. In the end, I had to call AT&T anyways to activate it, because I couldn't find the activation code in any of their emails, and they went with the "It's recommended to use the SIM card it came with" canned response, so I used it. That and I was talking to them with my old phone.
