question about unlocking atnt lg g2 for use on t mobile - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

got a few noob questions, please bear with me.
just got a brand new atnt lg g2 from swappa. I want to unlock it and use it on t mobile. it comes with a sim card. do I still need to buy a t mobile sim card? or I just need to unlock the atnt one to use with t mobile? it will be convenient if I don't have to buy and just get the unlock code from the lg g2 general forums. saves me a trip to the t mobile store that is out of the way.
if I unlock it, can I install custom roms on it? or is it better to install custom roms before I unlock it? or it doesn't matter at all?
I want cyanogen or pac roms. do they work on lg g2?

Porting stock L-01F (Japanese G2) ROM to d800 (AT&T G2)

I would like to know if it's possible to port the stock ROM of Japanese variant of the LG G2 (L-01F) to an AT&T LG G2?
I travel a LOT to Tokyo and using my phone on AT&T will just cost me an arm and 50 legs when I'm half across the world.
I'm thinking if I just flash the stock ROM of the Docomo version that it'll work, swap out my AT&T SIM card for a Docomo SIM card - flash the ROM and be good on the go. And when I go back to the states I'll just restore the nandroid of my AT&T stock ROM and slip in my AT&T card.
What exactly does it take to port the ROM over? I'm hearing that just flashing the ROM and flashing the AT&T kernel would work just fine.
Thanks for the help!
Bump, I really hope I've posted this in the right section.
I'm not a developer or anything, but wouldn't you need to unlock your phone for this?

Yes my phone is unlocked but some off the apps that are exclusive to Docomo handsets are locked and some are tied to their ROM framework and such. I tried downloading certain apps to see if I can get them to work on the AT&T ROM but it's a no go :\

Questions about buying Tmobile variant

I'm going to purchase the lg g2 tmobile variant for $398.40 just have a couple of questions. What would be the cheapest place for me to unlock the phone to work on ATT either online or in the Nyc area, Also when it comes to rooting and rom development are all the phones the same or would I be held back by not having the unlocked international version?

SIM unlock $1.70: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455956
The current root tool (ioroot25) doesn't work for the T-Moblie G2 and the only way to root is to flash back to JB, root, install recovery, then user recovery to upgrade to KK.
It seems there is less activity on the T-Mobile specific forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g2

Hello Guys, NEWBIE HERE<NEED HELP WITH ROMS AND CARRIER UNLOCK OVERSEAS FOR THE 350T>

Hello Guys, NEWBIE HERE<NEED HELP WITH ROMS AND CARRIER UNLOCK OVERSEAS FOR THE 350T>
So, heres the deal, I'm currently abroad, so I've got no idea of, if I can flash the Global Unlocked version of the Stock UNLOCKED rom for this variant of the GRAND PRIME.
Since it is the tmobile variant I did had my doubts when buying the phone, but I got it Dirt Cheap, either way i'm stranding of path, tried to unlock with preinstalled tmobile app, checked the imei on the tmobile - us database to see if that was the problem, not reported lost or stolen anywhere, so I figured, what if removing the preloaded apps that interfere with region lock of sim card reader locking, might help me?
Therefore, my question PLEASE HELP ME lol, its the only phone I have on me and need to use it here.
Regards.

Is it Possible to Remove Sim Lock for Free?

Hi i still have an old locked Lg G2. I want to give it to my Dad but it has a sim lock.
Is there any way to unlock it? Does Root help maybe custom rom?
i can only find old threats from 2013 about this. maybe now in 2016 its possible for free.
thx in advance
Which phone is sim locked? I know quite a few LG models are cheap to unlock via code from an ebay seller.

Wich LG v20 is better for root and custom rom?

Hi, want to buy a used LG v20 but i want to make sure it will be able to root it and custum it....
for now i buy a lgv20 only 50$ on ebay but it's locked and with US cellular... so i cant do nothing with it.... so i think i should buy another one... but wich one... this is the question...
i would like to have the root function, the FM function activated... the multi user activated... for now nothing of that is possible with the lgv 20 US cellular
thx
Someone posted on this forum recently that you CAN get OFFICIAL bootloader unlock from LG on US Cellular. Try it!
I have the same question. Is there a preferred model for the V20? I was thinking of getting an unlocked US996 model, primarily for audio/video use with no sim. I would, however, like it to work with AT&T as a backup to my iPhone. I know it uses the same nano-sim format. Of course I would like to root, etc as safely as possible. I haven't bought it yet, so advise is very welcome and appreciated.
I understand the US996 can get official bootloader unlock directly from LG.

The unlocked US996 is by far the easiest to root and will work on AT&T, but you won't get VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling if those matter to you. Only the AT&T-branded H910 will have those working.

Thank you for responding!!!
Rooting is more important for me as I don't plan on using it as my primary phone anyway. Sound like US996 is the way to go if you like to play with custom ROMs, etc.
