Hi,
I have try to modify the booting image for the NST (booting.pgm) and the screensavers (default.png & Bronte_Sisters.png) and now when booting I get a white screen (then it boots) and when my screensaver is on I only get a black screen...
I checked the other threads for a solution but can't seem to be able to find any fix to it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
The .pgm files must be .pgm format, monochrome.
The screensaver must be .png (or maybe .jpg also, I forget).
Gimp will write .pgm

I redid the pgm file and the problem was how it was saved, it wasnt actually a pgm before althought it had the extension.
As for the screensaver, it's still not working...

Normal screensaver files can be jpg or png, but default.png must be png. That's the one that loads first and sometimes at other times even if you have other files selected.
You can't remove or rename the 2 stock authors or nature directories under /system, the screensaver option just crashes then. But you can remove all the images or replace them, and you can add new directories, even under /system not just media or sdcard.

Hi all,
I am able to make changes to a png file in my Touch's Windows dir and save to a different dir but when I try to overwrite the old png file with the new file I get an access denied error.
I've tried changing the files attributes so read only is unchecked but it doesn't stick.
I've even tried using Total Commander to delete the file but no go. I konw it's something simple as so many seem to edit png files all the time but I'm even simpler.
Searching the forums yielded a similar squestion but no good answer except modifying a registry key from Hive to File, whatever that means. Is this what I need to do?
thanks in advance for any help
icon cube
Hi,
Can you send me original icons of the cube (touchflo)?
Thanks
dremanueleb
Usually the only time you can't overwrite a png file is if it's being used by the system. Try turning off whatever touch app your trying to replace the file for and then replace it.

thanks xeno1, that did the trick. I was trying to edit the touch's dialer background and quickdial.exe was running. Once I stopped the process I could overwrite the original background with the edited one.
thanks again.
No problem, glad I could help.

I'm not sure about PNG's , but i use BRN.
Store it in Windows Folder, and if you are replacing the originals due to haveing the same name file, you need an explorer that can overwrite system files. ex. resco explorer( Thats what i use whenever i copy files and need overwriting )
ohh i see just use the samfile name and overwrite them.
do the media hub and 3 X2 launcher have different size icons or it doesn't really matter?
i was hoping for when Touch settings comes out for us on the vogue, we can just select the picture file manually? But i want to convert the pics to BRN. Got it!

how were you able to overwrite the file if its under windows directory with 2000+ files? im using memmaid. and it wont let me see all the 2000+ files under \windows
i actually have to create a new folder and have it point to that directory using the registry.

I took the originals BRN of the Music, Sprint TV, and On Demand icons and convert it to size so that it will fit properly when i am playing Audio Manager with the functions displayed. Just like in the picture.
dont need that , need to know do i need to make different icon sizes for the 3X2 launcher or the Media hub... I can also just make PNG then save them as BMP, then convert them to BRN.??? THen when touch settings comes out, i can just use the icons through that prog. My question is where do i save the pics. I want to keep original pics there as well. But right now i also want these pics.
Ive been trying to edit the Quicklauncher skin .xml to launch other apps instead of the HTC Album and the Actionscreen, but after I overwrite the existing xml's with the edited the plugin doesnt display. I edited with Frontpage the copied to devices' \Windows folder using Resco. Could somebody double check me to see where I missed it?
make sure your image files are 24 bit depth... your menu may be there just not visible...
I didnt do anything to the images, just changed the links.
do you have the original files
someone correct me if im wrong but you cant just use frontpage to edit the xml files, you have to edit the xml files in something that keeps it in windows ce format. you can use notepad. just right click on the file and select open with and select notepad

I think the problem is you're using *.LNK
AFAIK you can only make links to *.EXE
for the photos I dont see any ql_pimg.lnk in my windows folder, if you change that to \windows\pimg.exe it will sure open your pictures.

I'm running into the same problem. Once I overwrite the XML files and place the new Icons, I get a blank plugin once I start it up.

Use File explorer extension, total ommander or resco explorer
1- rename the original file to BAK or whatever you remember
2-copy the new file into \windows\
There are 3 bootsreens
SEMC***.GIF isthe startup animation
welcomehead.192.png is the green Windows screen
As an explmple, I copied I my own welcomehead.192.NEW.png to \windows\ renamed the original file to welcomehead.192.BAK.png and then renamed welcomehead.192.NEW.png to welcomehead.192.png
Reset and changes wll apply
Thanx for your answer. i got the SEMC2904.bmp changed with the one i drawed. i hang it on my post if somebody wants it too.
*EDIT* okay i overwrote the old image but my new one does not appear ?!

A thumbnail would be fine
You can upload a thumb to tinypic.com or else
Thanks for sharing
Here's the Thumbnail.
But do you have a tip for me? i copied the screen to my windows folder. i'm getting asked if i want to overwrite it. i agree, but if i reboot my x1 i don't see my new screen
Check
It appears that (like desktop Windows) the Xperia performs a check on boot of the file details. If the file is deemed "corrupted" it is replaced by the original from an unknown location.
Since you file quite likely does not match a hash check, or possibly is saved in the wrong format, it gets replaced.
I had this problem and as of yet have been unable to make an image that the device will accept.
yeah must be some kind like this but i want to have my own startupscreen!!
I have created a folder on my external sd card named Movies.
I use Moboplayer, and have pre-set it to only view that folder when opened. But, after viewing any of the files in the sd card folder, the folder and files are displayed in Gallery. How can I prevent that from happening?
Or, put another way, I want to store some video files on my external sd card
and want to be the only one who is able to view them?
create a file in that directory called .nomedia that will prevent it being scanned by Gallery
Thanks, I'll try that later today and report back.

As a beginner with Android, I'm not sure I know how to do what you said to do.
Can you please tell me the easiest way to create that file? Thanks again.
Sure. Open an adb shell. Change to the directory you want the file in. Type "touch .nomedia "
Press enter

As an Android beginner, I have no idea what or how to use and adb shell.
Does it require that the Tab be Rooted?
Can I use a file manager like Astro?
Can I open the folder on my win xp desktop and create the file om the sd card with windows explorer?
Sorry to be so dense here, but, I am trying to learn what to do.

Get the free ES File Explorer from the store. You can do all the MS Windows-esque file management with that.
What is going to prevent someone else from launching Mobo and seeing the same files that you do?
I do have ES File Explorer installed, and didn't find a way to create a new file in that folder. Can you please suggest what to do when I get to the folder in question? Thanks.
As for your question about others using Mobo, is there a way to password protect a give app?

Ok, es 101: the key to finding everything is the menu button that spears on the dock in es. From there you can select new> folder.
android/linux 101: any file or folder named starting with a period is deemed "hidden". An example would be a folder called .media. Because the name behind with a period, it is now hidden. To show hidden file, go into es file explorer settings, and check "show hidden files"
...and if you don't want to play with renaming folders every time, try Hide It Pro from the market. You set a password that is required to open the app. It disguise itself as a fake audio manager. You just need to browse to the file you need to hide and select "share with audio manager". There's a really good guide inside the app when you install it but its rather simple Works great on Iconia.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smartanuj.hideitpro&feature=search_result
It also displays adds but its free and your hidden content is just a "click" away You can hide any file type compared to Photo Vault and Video Vault (they support only several file formats and they are paid apps)
Use a file manager such as astro, and change the format of the video to a format that doesn't exist by renaming it, for example: video.avi ----> video.uitpo, then the video won't be shown in gallery or anywhere else, and whenever you wanna view the video just change the format back to what it was.

I have created a file in my directory named .nomedia
But, when the Acer is powered off and started up again, all the files in this directory show up in the Gallery again. That approach doesn't seem to work for me.
