[Q] Tytn Blue dot/function key - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I just got my Tytn working again (needed a new battery nothing major) and noticed that the function button on the keyboard doesn't work. Every other key/button on the keyboard and device is working fine but that one isn't responding. I've hard reset but that hasn't fixed the problem.
It's not like the device is unusable without it but it would be much more convenient to be able to access symbols without opening the software keyboard.
Could anyone point me in the direction of a fix for this issue. I've searched but all the topics relating to the button seem to assume that the button is doing something in the first place. Is it likely to be a hardware issue when all the other keys are working?
Anyway thanks for the help
Dan

buttons problem in P3600

Hi All,
I have a strange problem, tried to search the forum,
without success...
Sometimes the OK button doesn't response (both OK buttons...),
only clicking OK on the screen works.
another issue - sometimes when clicking the action button nothing happens, or even worse - it acts like a long press even when I press it really shortly...
Any one else had such problems?
Is it (as I guess) a hardware problem?
I have the same problem and I dont think its the hardware cause the button is not presented in "buttonmapping" in the controlpanel. This has worked before. Please respond if you solve the problem.
Mine does it on occasion. Pretty sure it's software and It seems to happen with the same apps each time. Make note of what apps you have running when it happens.
Just started doing it again but I realized that I have never had a prob with the OK or Start Menu buttons but rather the softkeys. In Today Agenda, the left key (edit) stopped working and then a few minutes later the right key (menu) stopped working. I closed all apps and the problem persisted with every appointment I opened. Soft reset fixed it.
I should also add that I am not using the latest version of Today Agenda because I have not figured out how to make it look like the version I am used to.
Might be related: a lot of games I have tried don't seem to support the softbuttons, phone buttons, or really much else besides the directional pad and center select button.

Some hardware buttons won't work!

This is my first post and I must say that this is a great group of people who know what they are talking about!
Anyways, I have had my 8525 for about two weeks and I am loving it. For whatever reason some of my buttons do not work! The dpad works but the two soft buttons, the start button, ok button, email, PIE, and the green and red buttons don't work. The power, scroller, comm manager, the left ok button and the PTT all DO work. I did a hard reset hoping that would fix it but no luck. I been installing and trying a lot of programs but I thought after the hard reset that any program that screwed this up would be gone. Please help I love this phone and really don't want to take it back.
Thanks,
Dan
I took it back and that solved all of my problems.
you took back , what?
i am having the same issue with a HTC Tytn.

My hermes has a similar problem, buttons under the screen sometimes won't work, but if I turn off backlight and turn on, it works... but not very well because if I press green button then red button continually, buttons don't work again after few pressions....
I have changed my ROM but it's the same, it isn't a hardware problem because if I turn the scroll it works again...
This problem is known?
Thank you very muche for your help and sorry for my bad english.
same issue with my TyTN...
Same issue here with Tytn, buttons won't work but if I use scroll button a bit then buttons work again.
Hey guys,
Exactly the same problem here and it's infuriating when I'm trying to make calls on the run and sometimes I can't even pick up calls.
I have an I-mate Jasjam ROM 1.31.305.2.
If anyone has any fixes or solutions that would be great. Or do I have to send it in for repair or something?
So has anyone managed to fix this? Anyone tried a hard reset?
I have no idea how to diagnose the issue and even whether it's a software or hardware fault.
Jasjam- Same here
Also my screen turnes white some times

I'm also having these problems with the front buttons not working. Very frustrating. The problems seem to be platform independent.
I really cannot believe this. When I used the search function I noticed so many people are having these problems with the TyTN, and no resolve.
It's my second machine I received from HTC, first one also had these problems.
HTC sucks BIGTIME.

Has anyone solved front buttons not responding problem?

Hello, I have had this TYTN I for a long time without any major problems. It was originally with WM5 but then I upgraded to WM6. Lately I had a strange problem whereby the front buttons stop responding intermittently.
The below mentioned buttons stop working:
1. The Internet Explorer button.(Above on the right)
2. The Message button.(Above on the left)
3. The Call buttons. (The call picking and disconnecting button, below left and right) And the 4 keys along it.
During this time I have to resort to the pointer or the side wheel to use the phone, which is very frustrating.
If I press the reset button at the bottom, the keys work again for a few times, then stop to respond again.
I have tried to flash again with both WM5 and WM6 but did not help. I have opened the phone and reseated all connectors but did not help either. Do you think I should try replacing the ribbon cable?
I have searched the forum and found several threads with the same problem, but never a solution.
Your help is much appreciated. Thanks.
I have been struggling the last few months with the same exact problem. Sometimes the buttons work other times they don't, and in the last couple of weeks the frequency of button failure has increased (every couple of minutes).
I found a few users yesterday over on the HTC forum who were having the same problem and 1 user who actually reported a fix that worked for him.
Go to Start/Settings/System/Key Lock and select "Do Not Lock Buttons". Exit Key Lock and soft reset your device. You may know return to the Key Lock options and re-select your choice (I used "Lock all buttons except Power button").
Worked for the HTC user and is working for me as I have had no button failure now in the last 24-hours with repeated use of the device.
I hope this works for you because if you are like me I getting very close to trashing the unit.
Hi,
the problem could be the Xilinx chip (a BGA chip) on the pcb underneath the buttons.
As the buttons are pressed the board is flexed and some of the solder pads under the xilinx chip must have become detached from the xilinx chip itself.
I had the white screen problem. An while i got the white screen the front buttons where not working too.
In the whte screen threat i found that it could be the Xilinx chip, and figured out when pressing on this chip the white screen was gone and the buttons where working.
So i resoldered (refloated) the chip with a heatgun and some liquid flux last Sunday and since then i had no problems anymore.
I would suggest disassembling the phone down to the pcb and try starting it on with the ribboncables connected while keep some pressure on the Xilinx chip. And then trying the buttons if they work.

I have the same problem with the same phone. The instructions above for "key lock" didn't fix it for me. I was assuming that it was hardware; but I just tried installing the Android port for this phone and under Android the buttons work fine.
I know that Android has some good stuff going for it, but I don't think it's awesome enough to circumvent a bad circuit... How exactly do these buttons work? Is there a process that should be running to handle them? Any other pointers?

So many hardware issues

It first started with the blue light blinking, even with the phone turned off. The only way to stop it from blinking was to remove the battery for about 10 seconds.
Then, everything I typed staarted to ddoublle letteers raandomlyy.
Now, it's acting like the down button is stuck. I can't do anything on the phone because its always scrolling down, beating out any other input.
I can live with the first two, but the third one has made the phone completely unusable. It's never been around water, never dropped, just randomly doing this crap. Any ideas on how to fix it? Hard reset does not work, new rom does not work, its a hardware issue.
Yes it is probably a hardware issue. Time for a phone swap
I'm actually out of warranty, so the only thing I can do it either switch to a different phone or try fixing this one. Have nothing to lose by opening it up, just wanted to see if anyone else has fixed it by cutting any wires or connections on the inside of the phone.

No phone insurance. Verizon completely screwed me on that phone purchase in more ways than one. By the time I figured that out it was to late.
TO bad I got mine added late. I just called the lady I bought the phone from and she added it.
Not sure about the blue-light.
I was able to fix my repeating-letters using the keyboard fix in this post:
For the constant-down input - it could either be the touchscreen digitizer or the hardware keyboard. YouTube has a series of videos on dismantling the Mogul - it may be worth some "exploratory surgery" to see what might be causing the problem (cookie crumbs, perhaps)...
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Htc mogul hardware button - issue
Dear XDA GURUS,
I am facing this very weird problem on my HTC MOGUL. All my Hardware button have stopped responding / Working. Please help me sort out this issue.
Waiting for your valued reply with solution.
Detail given on below link.
My HTC MOGUL HARDWARE Button Issue
Dear XDA GURUS,
yesterday i tried to do some RnD for this same problem. now the inputs. (Nothing technical)
* Even though my camera hardware button is not working, but, i can still enter the bootloader screen.
* Even though my both soft reset hardware button are not working, but, still i can do the hard reset.
This only means that, my buttons are working fine, but, according to my logic, they have lost there assignment.
After that i started searching web, if i can find a App / setting / hack / register setting, in which i can assign then there original key setting. So i found this on XDA forum as below.
Code:
[B]How to assign a shortcut to EndKey, SendKey, Power Button, PTT Button!![/B]
Hello
Since some of you guys asked about this , well there you go:
if you look inside the keyboard driver with a good disassembler (IDA Pro) you would see that you can create these link files :
Long_PTT.lnk (push to talk button+long press)
Long_End.lnk (the read key+long press)
Long_Send.lnk (the green key+long press)
Short_PTT.lnk (push to talk button)
Long_Power.lnk (Power button +long press)
Short_Power.lnk (Power button)
So basically all you need is to create these link files and put them in to windows folder. You can assign these keys to any shortcut you want .

ok now, certain things are clear. now anybody out there can help get this thing sorted out.
Waiting for concrete solution.

Faulty soft keys?

My Desire Z has been operational for 1.5yrs now and some problems started to show up with the soft keys (home, menu, back, search)
Every now and then, these 4 soft keys would stop working altogether (clicking them doesn't give any reaction or feedback) - for a while, and then work again like a charm.
With every time I unlock and use my phone, I get a 1-in-4 chance of having these keys working. They can even die off on me while using them.
Other than that, my entire touch screen functions are doing fine, including the bottom-most areas.
Please let me know what are the possible problems, whether it's software or hardware and how to fix it?
You're not alone man, I too am suffering from this problem. I was this close of having to send my phone to htc and have them fix it but after checking i realized my phone's no longer under warranty. It just started working again this morning and then everytime I'd reboot, the chances of having them working are second to none, it's like a hit or miss. I don't know if it's a glitch, fluke or the hardware might be waring off or something. Let me know if you find a solution, which im guessing you might have to replace the digitizer.
Unfortunately yeah, you might need to replace some hardware. In the meantime, or even instead of doing that, you could remap some of your hardware buttons to cover those functions..... I used the Button Remapper to make my quick keys do Home, Back and Menu... it works great on the G2. Not as good as having your soft keys working again perhaps, but it's an idea. Also, it does require root access.
Here is the Button Remapper app thread:

I was considering ordering and replacing digitizer myself, but it's too difficult for me. Guess this oughta be a hardware problem.
I've found a solution to work around it, using SoftKeys app (requires root). It will open up a floating soft keys (home, back etc) to substitute the main ones.
If there's a way to map a trackpad with the "home" function, that'd be best. Can Button Remapper do that, or any other app?
