[Q] Downgrade from 98.16.3???? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a warranty replacement for my xt907. It shipped with 98.16.3 (4.1.2) and there is no unlock for this.
Will I be able to flash ICS via rsdlite so that I can unlock that way?

The only way to be able to flash files using RSD Lite to this phone is if the bootloader is unlocked.

Even if you do revert back, you still wouldn't be able to unlock your BL. Once the update is installed, you can't re-open the "trusted zone."

Yes you can unlock the bootloader without rooting

1. Yes you can.
2. Well if you're planning to flash anything after unlocking, you'll have to flash a custom recovery before doing so.
3. Yes you can flash stock rom/kernel/recovery and then relock the bootloader if you need to send your phone back for warranty repairs.

You should really read this thread put together by efrant. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010338
It had a ton of good info for a new android/nexus user.

1) yes
2) If you unlock the bootloader you do not HAVE to flash a custom recovery, it is just recommended that you do.
3) yes and no. google provided stock images that you can use to restore your phone. At the moment they aren't officially available, but with some searching you can easily find them. Any time you root a phone, you void the warranty, however, most phones don't provide a way to flag the manufacturers that you actually have rooted it.

Razr M Rooting and Updating issues

So I have Razr M and for some reason has been unable to update. I tried the verizon store and the guy working there tried many different things but nothing worked.
So now I am looking root and throw Cyanogen mod 11 on my phone. Only thing is I am still on Android 4.1.2 and System Version 98.15.66.XT907 since I cannot update for whatever reason.
So could anyone please point me to where I can find info on how to root this version?
Thanks for the help.

You could use RSD Lite to flash the official firmware.
Use Towel Root or Motochopper(Jelly Bean Only) to root.
If you want to flash a custom ROM, you'll need to unlock your bootloader. I believe the version you are on (.66) is unlockable, so is the latest version (KitKat). If this is what you want, the information is HERE but beware that unlocking your bootloader will void your warranty.

can you please tell me how to use RSDLite to flash the offical firmware on the phone? Will RSDLite require root?
Thanks.
It does not require root... There are several guides/videos online about how to use rsd just Google it... If you have any issues with the flash let us know...

[Q] Can't update to KitKat

So, I got this phone and it's running 4.1.2 (System version 98.18.78.XT907.Verizon.en.US) and I wanted to upgrade to KitKat but when I check for updates it says it's already up to date. What do I need to do to get the KitKat update?

yes you can update with locked bootloader, you can not downgrade with locked bootloader.
see [GUIDE][FAQ][KK] How to Root, Boot Unlock & More
I believe best option is flash VZW_XT907_4.4.2-KDA20.62-10.1_1FF.xml.zip with RSD Lite then unlock bootloader
do not use VZW_XT907_4.4.2-KDA20.62-15.1_1FF.xml it can not be unlocked at this time
WORKING!!! Thanks y'all!

Flashed VZW_XT907_4.4.2-KDA20.62-10.1_1FF.xml.zip with RSD Lite; file 15 which was system.img didn't want to load & kept telling me "fail" but I did NOT exit the Fastboot mode (don't like expensive bricks), I just kept trying until it worked on a different USB port.
Got root via towelroot.apk & then unlocked bootloader using motoapocalypse.apk.
Install TWRP recovery from http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/51942-recoverytwrp-2800/
Installed my apps & made a backup.
Works like a charm; thanks!

Thank you for updating to the unlockable version and taking advantage of it. Too many people ignore the warnings that .15 is not unlockable and beg for an unlock... Not gonna happen! Happy Flashing!

[Q] some questions about the device?

Hey guys... I am pretty new to this device. I have a razr m xt907. 182.46.15 with kernel july 29.i have searched the forum about rooting and unlocking the device but some threads say that its bootloader can not be unlocked.
So my question is, do i have to flash the 182.46.10 firmware first so that i can have root and have recovery. Can i flash this firmware?
Please guide me so that i may have a rooted and unlocked device.
Thanks
You can't flash the .10 firmware with a locked bootloader because your current firmware is newer! The only way to unlock the bootloader is to use the Sunshine app which will assess your system and if able to be unlocked, will charge you $25 and unlock if it.

Bootloader Official or Unofficial

Hey, should I unlock bootloader using official tool provided by asus or should I go with unofficial adb method. Will i be able to relock bootloader again if i unlock using official tool?

You can try both. Official unlock will void warranty forever and no stock ota updates will be pushed for your device. Whereas this doesn't happens with unofficial unlock method means you fan claim warranty and get ota updates after relocking. That's the only difference.
You can relock bootloader no matter how you unlocked.
