So I looked for an answer for sph l720 and couldnt find one. Got galaxy s4 rooted with auto root and twrp recovery can I upgrade to 4.3 without losing root or any other major issues? If I do lose root, is there an easy way to root again for l720 on the 4.3 os? Thank you all

Thank You!!!! I did search about every pattern of "sprint s4 4.3 while rooted" i could think of before posting this. You guys act like its so easy cause you all have been doing this ****. Ive only rooted two phones. How was I supposed to know the thread starting in "s4 to stock" was what I needed. I hope next time you guys delve into unfamiliar territory all the veterans treat you like lazy pieces of trash. Galaxy s tweaker

hey um i used galaxy s tweaker after using the root on here. i did the battery change and it rebooted. its stuck at the samsung screen. i know it created backups. please oh god help me.
When in doubt ODIN out.
This is not a joke message, if you are stuck/bricked or something, you can use the ODIN method to start again. Hope that helps
You might need to reflash your kernel, read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032
And be careful with apps like that... The first two pages of comments are basically all claiming it bricks phones, the description text says (in screaming caps) to do a nandroid backup before using it, and the feature you used says "EXPERIMENTAL"... Also, just because it says Galaxy S, doesn't mean it's thuroughly tested on the Epic.
I used

well now to re-root and download all my apps again. at least its not bricked anymore. man i was so worried, you know, being 15 and all...

The nice thing about these latest phones is they are much harder to REALLY brick. Mess up, that is easy, but with ODIN and a little reading you can almost always get it working again.
I remember my days in early Windows mobile, on those phones it was easy to REALLY brick a phone while doing a ROM upgrade.

That, or I wish one-click roots would stop existing. It robs people of valuable experience and knowledge of the platform when they can mindlessly double-click and be rooted.
I've read somewhere that Paul O'Brien has already root the Nexus Prime, so he was able to extract a dump (with Drew Garen use in his beta).
Sorry for my english
i don't get the griping about threads that are made here. this is the slowest forum of any phone i've used anyway. . .

I somewhat agree with this. Getting tired of the development threads clogging up with "How do I reboot my phone?" and "Do I need to wipe my ass before flashing this rom?" questions.

This is the main problem. Having easy root methods is all fine and good if you actually research what you are doing. There's a tool on this forum called "search"... 90% of people's questions can be answered by using this tool.
Sorry for the off topic post.. ICS, blah blah blah

Yeah and I think this whole idea of telling everyone to get together and make a single ROM is completely retarded, in all honesty.
Part of what makes this phone great is its diverse selection of ROMs. All these posts about needing a single ROM show A) complete lack of patience, and B)likely little understanding of how the phone, kernel, root, filesystem, etc works at all.
I think bashing someone for asking a question or making a suggestion you disagree with is pathetic. You all act like you wiped the embryonic fluid out your mouth and started spouting code. I'd much rather be a noob than a snob. Do you not realize the more newcomers the better? Newcomers become old comers like the great devs we have today... so don't be a part of the problem by stiffening innovation and contribution. Be a part of the solution: be patient with pwople, encourage ideas, make helpful suggestions (like I believe they are having this discussion on the thread below this one)

the OTA will be the first fully functional and stable ics. i don't think google have better dev.
i'm sure there is real genius on xda. but google work in team...
so the ics collab is not a bad idea.
and why not one-click-root? every one wants a fancy and better phone! what's wrong with that?
but you are right. no need to ask on forum how to. "root (phone)" on google and you find two hundred answers...

Well, with all due respect, suggesting or telling devs to work together is almost insulting.
Devs dont take lightly to people telling them what they should and shouldn't do. I'm not saying you're being demanding by any means, but regardless, theyll see the post, and more than likely think "Who the hell does this guy think he is, talking about how I need to work with someone else, so ICS is more complete"
Have patience.....they're working hard....on their day jobs first.

I bet 90% (or more) of all "Help me!" type posts can be resolved with those few threads. Maybe another 5% need to be directed to another thread or two, and only the last 5% or so actually require more information than what has already been posted. If people would follow the XDA rules, search, and read what is easily available, most of them wouldn't have problems in the first place...much less need to make posts about them time after time. This forum has evolved nicely and people have taken their time to put together guides, solve problems, and create helpful posts. It is a slap in the face of those people when others don't take the time to read the information they made available. I see it all of the time, people saying, "but this is Q&A, I should be allowed to ask questions yadayadayada...). For some reason, to them, Q&A means I don't need to search, read, or learn, I can just ask a question that has been asked 20 times already (usually still on the first page) and people must flock to me with easy answers on silver platters! Of course, that is assuming they even put the question in the Q&A forum to start with. For some reason, they think they are above the rules or they are so special the rules don't apply to them. Q&A (according to XDA) exists to help AFTER someone has already searched and read on their own...not as a substitute for doing so. And saying, "but I searched", when it is obvious that no searching or very little searching was done only makes them a liar as well.
At most, people should only need to be directed to this information (existing threads). If they choose to ignore this help or if they think they are too important to take the time needed to read and learn...too bad. Fortunately, most accept the help and take advantage of the information, others, well I guess they just need to sit around, all butt-hurt, with their bricks.
And to those that get butt-hurt...No, I'm not a Mod and I'm not affiliated with XDA, I just follow the rules that I agreed to when I signed up...just like everyone else is supposed to. DO you?
...and this isn't necessarily directed at the OP, I just happened to say it in this thread.
This is not unique to XDA. People on all forums ask before trying to find the answer. It doesn't matter how much good info is posted, most users want to be spoon fed instead of trying to learn on their own.
Even with power of Google, we see people post " how do I ....." On forums first, when the same query on google will give instant answers.
I can't explain it, but we are all witness to it.

A lot of members like Axman have invested many hours in writing great "noob" threads. Very well done and easy to understand. What I never get is why folks invest a lot of money in this phone, and others, and don't want to spend time educating themselves on how to root it and flash roms.

I started those guides thinking that everyone would be talking about flashing roms, whats cool, whats not, and so on, made them so anyone new could even understand, I must have forgotten that people just want to get a phone and start rooting and such, without reading because his buddy said it was cool to root and flash roms, even told him, here go to this site and get roms, and flash them. Then the process starts, a continuous posts of I can't , and it won't questions.
What gets me, you know they are not searching, because the post right above theirs has their problem right in the thread title. Saw one of those yesterday somewhere.

I came here in early May from the One S and close to 3.5 years of flashing HTC devices with the advantage of unlocked bootloaders thru fastboot. But, still felt like a noob here--still do--
Odin/Kies/Loki were all new. Esp loki. I have spent hundreds of hours reading probably a couple thousand posts. Still learning. It does take a lot of effort to figure this out for some of us--like me.
But, a good investment as one needs to not only know how but why--to not lose a pricey phone--

Hi,
I've just got this phone today and i'm actually quite impressed with it, my last Sammy was an S3, i've had HTC and Sony ever since, I go the gear fit with my phone too which works quite well too.
One thing i'd like to know, is there a way to root the device so that it can be unrooted and no one will tell, not even samsung, I don't care for a custom rom i'd just like to be able to use a few mods.
Plus will the gear fit still work with the device if it's rooted ???
Many thanks

Yes.
My question to you in turn would be why, after 3,597 posts, you don't try searching the forum first before posting a question? Or peruse a few threads at the top, either of which would have readily answered such a common query.

Wow you are pathetic, do me a favour and never answer any of my posts.
First of all ill explain a little deeper as regards to my question as you obviously didn't get my point.
Q1) is there a root method that is reversable without losing warranty or anyone knowing about it namely Samsung?
Secondly does rooting mess with the gear fit..
Thirdly, why do you have little man syndrome? Is it because you are a little man? No reason to take it out on me, I was polite and courteous to whomever answered me but your response is both rude and uncouth, not to mention presumptuous. I think you should quit while you are ahead, my question was bespoke, you need to but out and stop typing.. bottom line here is that you wouldn't be talking to me like this if I was speaking to you face to face. For that reason alone, I suggest you don't reply..

That's very true, different cultures clashing sometimes causes issues like that whereas one won't see any problem with saying something in a particular way but it wasn't that, I've literally just got the device, didn't want a slanging match, just wanted a bit of advice, if someone knew then it'd be a lot less hassle to just say it rather than attempt to police the forum.
There's nearly 6 million users on XDA and that's registered users, even if a sixth of those people repeatedly ask questions by the time you've told each and every single one of them that they should search first, you'd more than likely have aged 20 years.
As for the original question, I ended up rooting using towel root, the gear fit still works as expected so all is well, many thanks for all the input, it's appreciated. And lol don't worry i'll be searching in the future, was just very rushed at the time and had a lot going on.
Cheers

Can my Note 3 get rooted at all yet?

Hello!
I have a Note 3 SM-N900W8 from carrier CLARO PR and it is 5.0/lollipop.
I recently tried rooting it.. and did. However, I guess the file was meant for 4.4 cuz it messed up my phone and i had to do a bunch of random things to bring it back to life.
So my question is, can lollipop for Note 3 be rooted? If so, would you guys mind directing me to a tutorial?
