[Q] Rooting using a Mac? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings,
I have a rooted GN3 via a friend. I am using a MAC Book and I was wondering is there a way I can download the application that can root using a mac?
thanks!

I think you meant OSX, not iOS, but I don't believe there is a method.

You still have to be in Windows, but I did root on my MacBook Pro. If you are able to get a VM (or Boot Camp install) of Windows on your computer, you can use that. It is exactly the same procedure (Root de la Vega for MI9 or K***o for MJ7). Just make sure that for a VM you set the SCH-N900V device to automatically connect to the Windows VM instead of the host so there are no troubles when the device reboots.
I rooted with Vega the night it was released (I believe I had the first confirmation besides designated testers), updated to MJ7 in Kies, rerooted with K***o, and did some framework-res.apk mods all in a Windows 8.1 VM with no issues.

See i knew that

I knew all these problems will be imminent when I bought an AIR, this is why I boot camped it from day 1. The windows portion is strictly for hacking.

I only have a Mac, and use Parallels desktop and it works perfectly. It will take a little time to get it set up, but you won't regret it. I can run Windows, Ubuntu, even Android... It can all be had for free, PM me if you want more specifics.

Great info. I soft bricked my Note 3 last week by trying to flash Odin image using a VMWare virtualized instance of Windows 7 on my MacBook. I was able to fix using a dedicated Windows machine, but wasn't sure what the culprit was. Sounds like the key is to check the setting in VMWare to auto connect to Windows. Thanks for the tip!
Galaxy Note 3 (VZW) / Nexus 7

I just got a Note 3. Has anyone come up with a root method for Mac yet?

Update firmware via Mac?

How do I update my vega from v 1.06.5 to v 1.08 on a Mac?
I don't want a windows solution like boot camp etc.
Any ideas please?
Mate i could only do it by getting Parallels 2 for my mac, then putting windows XP on it. Fairly painless process pretty much does it all for you... if you've got 2 screens its ace to have mac and xp side by side! just means you can just bob straight to the website and get the .exe and install it

I was just hoping to leave windows behind forever
Maybe I will invest - I do have some software laying around from my windows days that could be put to use
Thanks
you can also try the mcr r8 rom (available at modaco)
it's an enhanced version of stock 1.08, comes with a 1 click install script for windows, linux, and mac, and doesn't require any specific base-rom to be installed first.
all it needs is USB-debugging mode working.

In short,
-you need to install samsung drivers .. (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads#Cell Phones)
- if you want to flash stuff back onto your phone, which is what i am assuming you want to do, make sure to update JAVA .. then go here (https://builds.casual-dev.com/jodin3/).. its a web interface of ODIN.. you can even download the JAVA file too.

You need to run Windows on a mac in order to have access to the programs you need like Odin. Im using an iMac and I recently installed Parallels. It works beautifully! Its actually running Windows as a Mac application. You can drag and drop files between OS's effortlessly. And it was all free since I got Parallels and a copy of Windows 8.1 from Pirate Bay.

I never said JOdin didn't work. And from my understanding, JOdin cant flash large files like complete firmwares (Stock Roms).

Oh my apologies.. that may be true.. I have never done it but I was under the impression that it could. So in that case you will most likely have to use Parallels

After I have been trying with JODIN with no success the quickest way it was to use wemulator (Parallel Desktop Trial my case) and odin (windows version) after installing KIES fro USB drivers and downloaded CF-Auto-Root-trelte-treltexx-smn910c.tar.md5.
Note 4 SM-N910C rooted.
Easiest (inho) way to do this would be the following:
1. Install Virtual Box (or other VM engine) on Your mac. Make sure You can use host PC usb ports on virtual machine. Not all hypervisors allows that functionality.
2. Get windows installation disk or iso file (can be downloaded from microsoft website , and install windows as a virtual machine (don't worry about activation, You only need it for 10-20 minutes)
3. After installing windows as virtual machine, download samsung usb drivers for mobile phones (You don't need whole Kies stuff). Actually my windows 7, 8 and 10 are installing those drivers automatically and I've had no issues so far.
4. Run Odin on Your virtual windows machine.
Hi was wondering if someone knew what software to use in rooting my note 4 with a macbook, my cellular phone is with Telus. first time doing this so a good guide line would be nice.
Thank you so much

[REQUEST] Root for MacOS

I did research and discovered JOdin (equivalent to Odin 3 for windows) I believe.
Just want to request for a step by step guide for MacOS to root the s8?
Better ask than brick my s8, cheers!
Go sell your mac and take a Dell !

You should consider installing Windows under a virtual machine or Bootcamp if you rather boot natively. I haven't checked lately but JOdin isn't maintained and is outdated. You might accidentally brick your phone using it.
install a virtual machine on your Mac. Or use something like Wine. I know it works well on Linux so it should work too on Mac. It allows to run Windows apps on Linux/OSX
Thanks guys

Anybody know how to update firmware on the S20 ultra on a mac.?

I want to manually update my firmware on my unlocked snapdragon galaxy s20 ultra but only have access to a mac.Is it possible and if so can somebody guide me through the process.I usually odin update on my windows pc.so unfortunately Mac is uncharted territory for me.
Run windows in bootcamp or a VM and do it via Odin. IIRC there's no mac tool for flashing galaxy devices.

No idea what Heimdall or Jodin are, but Bootcamp allows you to run full Windows on your Mac. Just download an ISO for it from the Microsoft website and go through the wizard in macOS, creating a partition for your Windows install. You can find more info elsewhere, but this is generally how I run Windows-only software on my Mac, as it literally turns it into a Windows PC.

Sweet Thank you very much.
If you want a regular update, Smart switch works just fine. Did the last update like that and went smoothly
