Hey all, not sure what's going on but I've flashed both the CWM and the latest TWRP tar files through Odin and upon trying to get into recovery, Vol-Up+Pwr+Home I get the blue recovery booting line which hangs on it's own for about 5 seconds then goes to No Command, a little android with a red exclamation stating error and then it goes to the stock recovery.
This is the CDN SM-N900W8 with the latest MJ4, I have not yet rooted although that was the plan once I get into recovery.
Any help would be appreciated.
Goo.Manager and Rom Manager aren't locating recovery's for me to install via the app method.

you have to root 1st
The plan was root via the SU zip from recovery but I guess I just do CF-Auto-Root then from Odin...? I thought I would at least be able to get into recovery rooted or not.

yeah i CF-Auto-Root with odin then flashed cwm with odin
Okay doing it in that order worked nicely. I found a tutorial that described the opposite which was bad I guess.

Hello,
After successfully rooting my S4 and installing 4.3.3 I wound up screwing things up and now have the yellow triangle of death when I try to get back into recovery or boot the rom.
The only thing I seem to be able to do successfully now is get back to download mode.
Trying to flash a new recovery via odin results in a nand write failure. I've tried philz, clockwork and twrp, all do the same thing.
Since I can't boot the rom there's no way to use an adb based utility like casual, which is what I had used to originally root.
From what I can find it doesn't appear there are any odin flashable versions of the loki utility.
Any help with ideas on what to try next appreciated.
Thanks for any help

Tried flashing a stock rom with Odin, data factory reset and reroot?
I wanted to try the regular CWM recovery for my i337.
But when I installed it via command line (img file), on reboot I got the "non authorized software" message during boot.
And it wouldn't let me go into recovery afterwards, not even stock recovery.
So I ODIN'd back to AMDL stock.
Rooted with Motochopper.
Then downloaded & installed ROM Manager and used that to install CWM for i337.
But even though it says it installed successfully, I still have only the stock 3E recovery.
WTH am I doing wrong?

Are you using LOKI?
No. Jeez, can't believe CWM didn't loki their recovery and then went and put it out for mass download so millions of morons like me can soft brick.
I found my answer here.

Try OUDhs CWM. It gives the same features of CWM, but it is the only custom recovery ( I believe) that will auto-Loki things that are flashed.

What about "philz-touch_6.00.8-jfleatt-Liki-Patched won't it do it also?

Of course I don't use it now looking at my signature
ROOTED ATT MK2 using Tapatalk
I rooted a Samsung S4 with the towelroot method.
So I installed flashify and used it to backup my kernel and my current recovery to SD card.
Then I used flashify to install the latest version of TWRP.
Now my phone boots in to ODIN mode.
The top right of the screen says
Could not do a normal boot.
ODIN Mode
and the screen says "Downloading Do not turn off target"
I tried rebooting with the two or three buttons pressed, and the phone continues to reboot into this mode.
Help is appreciated.

So I figured out how to boot to download mode, and then canceled the download. The phone booted normally. Should I now restore my backup of the recovery using flashify?
Being new to this, it seems I may of messed up my "recovery" is that correct? Will flashify fix this?
It seems that what I am trying to do is impossible, I was trying to backup my rom using TWRP. Why is there a version of TWRP for at&t s4 if it will not work?
Thanks for the help.

Twrp will work if you're on mdb/mdl firmware. If you're on anything newer, and most are, you will not be able to use twrp. Safestrap is the only recovery you can use. You're most likely going to have to use Odin at this point and start your process all over. Do you know what firmware version you're on?

My phone is basically working right now.
Why wont flashify restore the recovery? Is my recovery messed up? Are you basically saying that you don't know what state my phone is in, so use odin to get back to a starting point?
Thanks for your reply.

If you tried to install twrp your recovery is most likely messed up. Go to the general forum and look for index, all things at&t..... I believe there is a stock recovery file that can be flashed in Odin.

Again, thank you for your assistance. But isn't the whole point of Flashify to restore my recovery (among other things?). I was trying not to be a total n00b and backup things the right way, but seems like it didn't help me.
Wish there was more info out there about twrp not working with anything that resembles a recent firmware update of the at&t phone (just ranting, obviously not your fault).
Is it possible to use the dd command (from inside "Terminal Emulator") on a "Note 3" that has NC4 on it to restore the Boot and/or recovery by using images that have been extracted form another MJE device (using dd command) or extracted from the official ROM?
The goal here is to get rid of the lock that was put on the phone in NC4. Also I used "ROM Manager" application to install ClockWorkMod 6.0.4.6 into the recovery which surprisingly installed it. But if I try to boot into recovery I get the yellow triangle with the message "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone.", which means I have no usable recovery at this moment.
Has anyone tried this? Does anyone know if it would work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Sam
If you are on the retail note3, the problem is you cannot flash a custom recovery. Only safestrap. You need to odin back the stock recovery

Actually I tried the dd command and it kind of worked. I extracted the recovery.img from stock MJE ROM and using the dd command I was able to replace the CWM recovery. Still the NC4 boot does not work well with MJE recovery and if you try to boot int recovery, you will get the boot-loop. But at least the yellow triangle and "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless ..." message was gone which tells me if I had the MJE boot in there, it might have worked. But I am not brave enough to mess with boot partition without having a conformation from someone who is more experienced in this than I am (let's face it I am a noob). So I extracted the recovery.img from stock NC4 ROM and using the dd command I was able to fix the recovery without wiping the rest of the device.
I am hoping one of the more experienced users here reads this and can give me some pointers.
Thank you
Sam
Ok so I updated to the 5.0.1 update on my S4 yesterday and kept my root using that method with the chainfire app. Today I wanted to try flashing CWM on my S4. Upon trying on Odin 3.09, it said failed and now my S4 boots into Odin Mode and says "Firmware upgrade encountrered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & Ttry again."
WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST DO?
EDIT:
Fixed it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/guide-odin-to-stock-updating-rooting-t2926642

Safestrap doesn't allow recovery boot for lollipop. This is because safestrap hasn't been updated for lollipop yet. Everyone's moving to lollipop someone will update it or come up with a alternative soon I'm sure.

If you want to fix the stock recovery. find the OC3 Stock Partitions file and ODIN it to your phone. If you find the one that's a zip file, you'll have to ODIN a kitkat kernel to flash that in Safestrap.

I don't understand. I've never used safestrap. I was able to flash back using odin to the nc4. Than flashed to NJ1, rooted that, then upgraded to 5.0.1 while keeping root using that flashfire method.
Now if I use flashfire, do a cache wipe that way I can access flashfire's reboot options, select boot to recovery, it will boot to recovery fine. I just can't get it to boot recovery using the volume up, power, and home buttons. It says recovery boot in blue at the top but then restarts and boots normally
