Any rom I ccok on the kitchen wont boot. I even tried the stock m919 firmware and it wont pass the boot logo. I wonder if this have something to do with kitchen or not?
Cant do logcat because phone wont fully connect to computer. It says waiting for device on adb commands.
I wonder if anybody could help me out. I can send you the rom and see for yourself.
Is this a kitchen problem or not. Also kitchen wont deodex rom I had to do it on a 3rd party app like universal deodex. This is getting annoying since I want my own rom with my own mods. I never had problems with other devices before.
I got the same issue, anybody can help us here? mine gets to the samsung logo, after the bootanimation, and stays there.....

don't use stock kernel. if you are making rom for i9500 use perseus kernel. only problem for not booting up is stock kernel. i don't know custom kernel for other s4 variants but do use best custom kernel available

there is nothing wrong with stock kernel. it is perfect. the problem is kitchen is usin deodexing api which is a lower version. now 4.3 needs a higher version.
perseus is good kernel. but it gives errors in mtp so beware

i repeat no problem with stock kernel. 4.3 stock kernel and sources need higher api of deodexing
perseus adds support also for lower api as higher i think.
But even stock 4.2.2 wont boot. It gets annoying it just stay on boot logo. I tried many roms I made in kitchen and none work. So I figure it was a kitchen issue on my end. Stock kernel too.
The sad thing about the thread is that it basically proves the developer discussion idea isnt working. Most rom devs with roms released do boot, otherwise they wouldnt still have those threads. I was really hoping a rom dev would answer here... but the issue doesn't have to do api or the kernel really. I don't release custom roms for the public but I do make myself a new one every couple days if I want to try something. If it doesn't boot that means you either edited the kernel on a locked device, editied the recovery partition on a locked device, didnt change the update-script to an updater-script script, added modules to the kernel that are not compatible, or make a rom from a base not compatible with your device, etc. I don't think its fair to blame kitchen for any of those issues, Dsidia does give clear instructions. Just my two cents.
dont use the kitchen to actually build the rom, zip it up yourself
Personally, i use the kitchen to extract, deodex and zipalign...nothing more, and i never have issues

Hi, as the topic states, does anyone know where i can download one and flash? my setup on my sig is current.
thanks
So you're trying to run the official kernel with a custom ROM? Why?
why not? and what prevents me from running an official kernel? to OC and drain my batteries? other than that, what else?
edit/
what may keep me from using an official kernel is the 15MB additional ram. however i was under the impression that if I had radio 2.22.27.08, and H-Boot 1.33.0013(d), it doesnt limit me from using any of the froyo kernels floating around. if im incorrect with my assumptions, can someone enlighten me?

Because you can't OC is probably the main reason. The only other one I can think of is the random battery drain that some kernels experience.
On the plus side I can think of stability and battery life. Knock yourself out, I'm sure someone can post it for you.
I have the zip file for the 2.2 OTA but I have no idea where to find the kernel.

IMO, the current ROm im using (TheOfficial) is working wonderfully. I care less about overclocking since I don't play games and dont find the need for the applications I use to be overclocked. Also the UI response on the ROM is incredible.
You are right, until the other ROMs iron out the random battery drain, which I have experiences in both CM7 and pershoot kernels, i wont be using them because i do not like having to restart the phone every time after i charge. ezterry's current kernel always gives me the green screen. however, ez's older kernel doesn't, but I prefer running the latest unmodified kernel.
I'm satisfied using a non-oc kernel and would rather set the mim clock freq. to ~177.
Makes sense. If you can figure out how to extract the kernel from that zip I linked you to, you should have your kernel.

lol, thats my problem. I don't. I also have athe official OTA Froyo image for mt3g. but i have no idea how to extract and apply it to the current OS. Thanks for the offer though. i'll try to find a way to do it. was just hoping someone had a flashable official kernel laying around they'de like to share.
I hit a brick wall. I guess i'll just stick with ezBiffTestKernel20101106-2708_S based on kernel 2.6.34.7. It's a bit old but it will suffice until i figure it out. At least I don't have to reboot every time I pull from the USB charger.

Actually there might be a legal copyright issue with distributing oem kernels in custom ROMs. I don't know for sure though.
Shouldn't been since the kernel code is open source, but I'm not sure either. I did find a guide to extracting kernel's from ROM's but it requires that you are either running Linux or are running Linux in a virtual environment.

The kernel is open source. I dont think i have a problem there. Its gapps that we can not redistribute. i read that from CM forum.

The official kernel is meant to go with 0013 and 28.25 so yes, you should still have the additional RAM, which this phone desperately needs.

We are able to boot custom kernels now!
Anyway... this is the first release of the fully working custom kernel (flashable via xRecovery). I haven't had much time to work on it so it's kind of proof-of-concept. Tested for 48h without any problem (not even a reboot).
FreeKernel-alpha1:
http://www.mediafire.com/?d8v914keiqsmc3n
This is the alpha version of custom 2.6.29 kernel based on the SE sources. I do not plan to work on this release anymore - it is just for testing purpose. From today on I'll start to port SE stuff to the latest (GBread) kernel.
Changes:
- removed 32 fps cap
- implemented netfilter (Droid wall, native USB/wifi tethering etc.)
- undervolted to 0.950mV to save battery
- don't remember what else I did, I bet something nasty
- super ugly boot logo!
Requirements:
- baseband .52 + the relevant kernel
- clean 2.1 ROM, compatibile with .52 baseband (e.g. .504)
- working xRecovery
Please note I am not responsible for any damage this software may cause to your device! Use it at your own risk!
There is absolutely no support for this alpha release!

So, if you want to test this new kernel, please keep in mind it is only compatible with stock 2.1 firmwares (.504 and above) that are compatible with baseband 52.
It is only for testing purposes, and any feedback for this alpha kernel is purely for the benefit of others, Z is not and will not be supporting this version, do not expect it to be ready for daily use!
Please post your results and how you get on with the kernel.
Video of FreeKernel
http://vimeo.com/21838810
does anyone know how to embed it?
I tested the kernel on baseband .46 on TripNMIUI 0.3.2, and the removal of the FPS cap is incredible, the phone is so much smoother and fluid it is unbelievable - it is like having a new phone. I noticed the screen feels a lot more responsive aswell!.
Obviously it is not at all compatible with the ROM, there is no radio and there are frequent reboots, but just a taster in terms of things to come
Apologies for the poor video, but I think its enough to get the general gist of the smoothness
Tried custom kernel just for kicks on trips miui 3.2...bb 54 and up super unstable no network/wifi tons of reboots....
bb 52 and bb49 no network but wifi IS working no sd card mount though
gonna test other roms aswell....
For install custom kernel to be need xrec by Z not from flashtool.
All works, clean install bb 2.0.46 and 2.0.A.0.504.
Dont problems.
I done back to my custom rom way xrec and flashed the patch bb.49, nothing problem.
cheers
this will not work on bb .46 i have tried and failed. no network at all. have tried on several roms... only eternity roms are working on this kernel on bb .52....
supposedly it is suppose to work with bb .49 have not tested on this bb so i cant say for sure.
guaranteed on .52 build 504...
results on quadrant show fps cap has been removed.
overclock is not possible but undervolting is
colors have not yet changed but should upon release of other custom kernels
Can I brick my x10 with this or only bootloop it (because bootloop is fixable with SEUS)

You can't brick it as you only flash some files to the system, and you should still be able to access xrecovery if it bootloops
THIS IS ONLY USABLE WITH STOCK 2.1 ON. 52 BASEBAND!!!
This is a test kernel not meant as anything more than a proof of concept. There is absolutely no reason to flash this unless you are personally working on making your own custom kernels. This kernel is not even an alpha release, it will never be developed or supported. If you choose to flash it just to toy around don't whine about functionality.
When custom kernels are available anything the hardware is capable of and drivers can be written for will be possible. Everyone needs to calm down and quit asking the same questions over and over.

No. Z posted it in the bootloader cracking thread. This is only meant for stock 2.1 FW on. 49-.52 BB and is not functional for daily use. This is only meant as a test if you want a stable new kernel its still going to take a little while.

It won't work with any ROM 100% - its just designed for testing, you won't be able to use it for daily use yet.
If you just want to try it out, its possible it will boot up on freex10 and you will see the effects of not having a FPS cap - but it is unlikely the majority of things will work, like radio etc. as it is meant for stock 2.1 roms.
If you do want to try it, make a backup on xrecovery first
I dont know what you have xD
What do you mean with "its not ready for dayly use" ?
I use it now since yesterday afternoon and everything works perfect!
I had no random reboots and everything is very smooth!
My Battery lost 1 % with stable 1 Ghz (playing around and testing).
So not be scared! flash it!

As in its only supported by the stock 2.1 ROM, and if you run into any problems with it, its not being supported so you won't get a fix
so for example if i install this kernel on my freex10, how can i remove it later if i have problems with it?

Hi.
I cant seem to get my girlfriends wildfire to accept a overclocked kernel after i used Alpha´s new s-off tool, and rooted it. No matter what kernel i use, it never starts up, it hangs very long time at the screen, HTC makes it quietly (or something) and then i restarts?
Any suggestions?
And no, she dosent want CM, she wants sense :-(

then only one solution I belive ,reflash rom...then be easy on oc,step by step and nex time skip to sheck "set on boot option, then if it freezes it will boot stock @528 and you wil know what is max Mhz you can set, good luck
There's another problem with your idea...
Whenever he flashes a OC Kernel he's bootlooping.
he should post what rom is he trying to oc then we will be smarter I belive, like this its just guesing... right
Edit:when he reflash rom he will be able to BOOT right?
Guessing from the fact he mentioned HTC Sense, I'm presuming he's using stock.
And yes, it should since ROMs install a new Kernel.
should use custom sense based rom, not the stock
There's only one person that can tell us that *cough*
just trying to help, since he cant get oc on stock rom with any oc kernel...custom rom is logic idea i belive
That's true.
And if his GF is not so technologically interested she wouldn't notice the difference between stock or WildPuzzle ;D
Have you tried HCDR.kernel v4.2. It can be flashed on any wildfire rom.
Personally tried it on stock 2.2.1 (after alpharevx s-off) without any issues.
Link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798471
You further need an overclocking app like set cpu. If facing any issues, format the phone and make a clean install. Still facing issues, go with a sense custom Rom which already has inbuilt oc kernel.

Hcdr.kernel_4.2b_flashable
Could there be a recovery version issue, using 2.5.0.7, just wild gues?

Well you can only flash Kernels with 2.5
Have you tried other Sense based roms?
(DK custom or JokerDroid (has a different theme then stock))
Hi.
Yes i have tryed those, but she is not like me, she wants a phone that is working 100%, me i dont care, i work on my legend all the time.
So the fact that she wants a phone that is working 100% made me stay on stock and try to renew the kernel, but isnt working the way i want it to.
Maybe i shold try a clean install og stock, and then the kernel
Tryed again, fresh stock rom, still no good.
Jokerdroid 4.2 worked, lets se her reaction

Hi guys, happy new year!
So, i'm testing the rom "Nexus 5 Experience (Kitkat 4.4.2)" and everything seems ok, i'm testing the version CAF Kernel. now i'm tryin install new kernels on this rom, but at every kernel I install i get the same error, after instal any kernel, I turn on my N4 and the screen seems very strange, colors flashing, sometimes when i start a game (or anything that forces the gpu) the screen is filled by one or two colors, but the touch is still working, is just a screen or gpu (i dont know) error.
I tryed to take some printscreens, but when i will check this on my pc, everything is ok, like if theres no error.
When i flash the rom again, everything works normally.
what i'm doing wrong ? I thought to change kernel is only flash him, is it wrong ?
i'm newbie, got my n4 yesterday but i have some experience in my old xperia..
sorry the bad english, im br

I can't say what you did wrong, maybe you got the wrong version since many make 2 versions of their kernel, one for AOSP and one for CM.
I don't run CM ROM's so I don't know which kernels are out there. HellsCore is also another kernel to consider, I believe there are CM versions of it as well.

Hi I just want help with some kernel, at now am using resurrection remix 4.4.2 as to my point that am unable to create a swap file on SD card as my kernel doest not support it had tried many swap apps but non of them works.
As I searched on Google with 4.4.2 custom kernels and flashed many but nothing happens... Kernel name remains same as factory default
As far as I am really confused and need some help from you guys... (Still using swapper for root on my Asus tab with cm10 stable and it worked fine for me hmm... Was thinking can I flash cm10 kernel of my tab by backuping my kernel and try to flash it on my s4 i9500 will it work??)
Thx
No it will not work.
Anyway there's just two custom kernel out there that supports 4.4 custom ROMs, just two:
1- Maxfour v14.
2- Persues v19.1 modified.
Any other kernel you may have downloaded could be for the wrong device, that's why it doesn't get installed.
