[Q] IMEI null/null, baseband unknown, no EFS backup - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone;
I flashed BAM-Android on my Galaxy S4 i9505 yesterday (first flash) and the network was working very poorly, every 2 min I would lose the signal.
Therefore I flashed other AOSP and Custom roms, flashed other modems to test better options and this morning I noticed my IMEI was null/null and my baseband was "unknown".
I tried flashing a stock samsung rom twice but it didn't change either. I bought my phone on ebay so no warranty at all. I don't have a backup of my EFS partition.
After browsing through forums I didn't find any solution... Do you guys have any other idea ? Or have a efs.img in stock so I can flash it in my phone ?
Thanks a lot !

You cant flash other phones's imei on ur phone. No other option than service centre

Don't you have IMEI written on your box or receipt?
Using other phones's IMEI is kind of identity theft
Go to the service center ... :good:

If you go to recovery it says can't mount /efs? or can you mount it

I can but nothing is shown on the computer any other suggestion?

Go to service center. Cant do anything. Or you could grab someones IMEI and null theirs. Having 2 phones with same IMEI is illegal and your carrier might penalize you.

My old Galaxy S2 has an EFS backup on it... I'm quite new to IMEI/EFS issues, is it device linked or can I flash my Galaxy S2 EFS into my new S4 ? If yes how to flash it via img/tar ? Odin ?
@fran41 : thanks I'll try tomorrow !

No that won't work. Each phone has different partition structures. Efs is not the same in S2 as in S4. Btw you can't use efs from one S4 on another S4. Efs is unique for each phone (IMEI, wifi mac, serial number...)

Dont think that will work.each phone has his own imei.
Hate to say this but if u dont have ur imei backed upped i think ur screwed.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium HD app
flash stock rom and do reset / factory reset to make it back to official roms to get back warranty, then send it to Samsung service centre. They will get ur imei as normal..
it done less than an hour..
Discussion of changing IMEI methods are not allowed as its illegal in most countries.
If you didn't read the giudes and didn't backup before messing with your phone then tough, should have read them in the first place and you won't find help on IMEI changing on here.

[Fixed by claiming warranty] Note 2 N7100 EFS partition corrupt :(

Well something went really wrong and i have a corrupt IMEI/EFS partition.
so i followed this and this threads to restore my EFS partition.
But for some reason, my IMEI number / EFS partition is not being restored. Also my mobile network (not able to make and receive calls/ no mobile data) is not working.
Please help ASAP My N7100 is still under warranty but i tripped the knox counter.
Also i am able to go into bootloader mode but odin is not recognizing the device. I installed kies and it is updated.
edit - flashed official stock rom via mobile odin so that i can take it to samsung service centre. But as a last resort, still searching for methods to restore efs.
If anybody still has any suggestions or help, please please comment here.
Thank you vry much,..

i tried this tool but its not working..
the tool shows that there is some data transfer, but nothing is happening in my phone.
just to confirm..how much is the size of a properly working efs.img file ?
mine is around 20,048 Kb
It's 20 mb the image, besides I doubt that you can do anything without a XwZ BOX,which will cost you over $100 so my advice is that you take it to a dealer for a repair , that's if you don't have an EFS back up, however I'm not sure if the things are easier if you have a back up either, since it didn't work for me.

Just a question... How did you make the efs backup you have? Size should be correct
If you remember how did you make backup, it'd be easier...
Have you got just a backup? The file you're using could be a corrupted file...

Yes the dealers can fix it, will cost somewhere between $30 To $40,at least that's the way the things are where I live. That is why I'm gonna keep my Note II on 4.1.2 until it dies away and will get THIS biggi and forget about Samsung alltogether,I have learned my lesson the hard way..

They replaced the motherboard..costs around 9000 rupees in india without warranty
And guess wat ! They even reset my knox counter
My note 2 is now like a brand new device.
But thanks a lot guys; for all the help u provided in this thread...appreciated .

Just restore your EFS if you have backup your EFS.
service centre
Sent from my SM-N900 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Seeing as you are on the stock recovery, i assume your knox is not void. Also as you say you have no efs backup, looks like you will have to send it to samsung for them to write your efs/imei to the phone.

No problem :good: btw @mhsan, can you try recovering it via adb? Just google it, some of them might wont work on our phone. but if you know how to figure it, edit the value and anything, it might work on your device. I would like to try it, but i have no time.

Have you tried flashing stock with Odin?
Have you still got a radio signal (Make calls / text etc) ?
If not, you might have lost your EFS partition, which afaik, needs a professional repair to fix unless you backed up that partition first

Before you try anything, I strongly advise you to backup your EFS partition or you could end up with no signal at all
IMEI and Radios are both contained in the EFS partition, lose that, your screwed

Might be too late if the EFS partition is corrupted and you don't have an IMEI and can't make calls
There are a couple of threads kicking about on XDA S5 forums where people have managed to recover their phones with similar problems, have a read through the Q&A forum and see if you can find them, some fixed by flashing stock, not sure how that worked, but apparently it did
Read others saying they backed up a working S5 EFS and restored it to the broken one
Have a read and see what you can find

so you saying the only thing i can do is to flash a new imei with octoplus or some other kind of boxes.
and if i recover imei from other phone it will not cause network problem becuase there is two phones with the same imei ??
The law in most countries states that the only IMEI number you can use in your phone is the one it came with.....
Nobody here on XDA is going to give you advice on how to change your IMEI for that reason......it's against the law..... *and* as such, it's against XDA rules as well......

EFS missing files / IMEI and Baseband unknown

Hello guys, I need a lot of help was messing on the Internet from my Galaxy S5 G900M when he crashed and got warm,
I removed the battery called him but was no carrier signal after prsquisar discovered that my EFS is missing files:
.nv_core. bin
.nv_core.md5
.nv_data.bin
.nv_data.md5
.nv_state
I have little money when then pay for repairs to the box is in final plan at the time,
I researched many posts with repair attempts here Forums new and others over the Internet to 3 full days without success, what do you think is like me rebuild these 5 files on my device?
vi whose other older models (Galaxy S4) with a program, only it does not support my model!
Obs:
My S5 was before the problem with the Rom xXx No Limits 5.7 + Boeffla kernel + Root
I've tried to go back to several versions of the stock roms and did not work!
Thank you guys
I also have the same problem with my G900M
It would be very good for someone we help.
My friend, any progress tell me.
i dont want to bother or anythin, but for u to recover the efs file is more or less impossible.... the only way would be if u would have made a efs partition backup trough twrp, since i bet u didnt made one, ur phone is now more or less just a tablet with no usable phone stuff
Hope this helps! Best of luck

I have SM-G900F and in efs partition I don't have this files above too, but i have IMEI in phone and it works good. I think the Galaxy S5 have a special version of efs partition. I can send you my dump of efs part. (efs.bin file, maked by dd in adb in console on PC ) if you want. You can send me your dump of efs to compare this. It is surprise for me why I dont have the folder "sec_efs" like you.

Hi there. I tries to restore my efs backup after flashing stock ROM,but didn't knew the backup itself was corrupt and my phone has no network, no imei and unknown baseband.
