Install xposed with addon Gearbox.
Gearbox allows lowering from default 20 -> 5.
I just tried this and it works.
thanks friend, but i cant find Gearbox addon.
just try "screen filter" from market.

You need xposed framwork. I guess you're not rooted.
Not sure if there's any apps that can lower brightness from default without root.

Not sure why I wrote gearbox but yes.
When you put it at 5 you need to reboot and go to brightness, you will now be able to lower it.
Did you try settings > display > brightness and tick adapt to light conditions?
big difference..

It's supereasy rooting the Z1 and you don't have to unlock bootloader :good:

Sadly yes. Wrote this in another thread.
I made sure I was on .352
Rooted with Vroot and then installed Dualrecovery (https://mega.co.nz/#!zNBjCLgK!RloqhT1DzO4mYQgmbDXsZycDjHlFjTL-eSonTz4VBX4)
Flashed (in Recovery) pre-rooted 257 fw (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440408) + BusyBox/SU (http://d-h.st/M10)
Flashed (in Flashtool) kernel/baseband from 257 stock tft (ticking everything except kernel/baseband) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191)
Restarted phone and everything have been working flawlessly since. Reinstalled recovery.
You don't need to wipe any data when downgrading, upgrading. I didn't and it works just fine. Not saying it can't cause problems though.

If you're not rooted, you can use an app called Night Mode that lowers the brightness.

A friend of mine got a nexus s and his automatic display brightness doesn´t seem to work until today. His device is not rooted or has a custom rom, so I can´t test, if it´s an software bug or not.
His firmware is android 4.0 since more than 3 months.
Is there a possibility to check this issue? With an other app or something? Sending back his device is an option, he want to choose as his last possibility.

Something must be wrong with the phone if you have such a high CPU usage after a fresh install. Send it in for servicing.

first, whats your upgrade procedure, try without restoring stuff and let os settle in. restoring app+data usually causes this with me.
Also what app do you use for measuring cpu usage. That may be off for some reason. Also note cpu utilization v. s. governor. Example on demand scales up frequency when e. g. uses 80%, so it will seem high, but in regard to frequency it is not. Due to battery savings lower frequencies are used, until 80% frequency is reached before going to a higher frequency, thus for same task higher utilization of that frequency it may not be a bad indication is what I am saying.
Now a rom usually needs some time to synch, perform breakin tasks, scan all media etc, try to see through settings, development options then cpu utilization what is utilizing cpu. Maybe app has gone bad, rogue, or maybe its expected.
M using CPU Z, thanx for utilization info

i do know it, i have been investigating about it without much success.
Mainly i can make it dissapear for half day if i use WIFI, once wifi is enabled the wake lock dissapears when i stop using wifi or do an experiment with it.
but somehow the error comes back once in a while, after a reboot, or after charging it.
no kernel fix it, no Rom fix it, im putting my hopes on CM

honami is the code name for the i1(naming confirmation pending from sony, will be disclosed at IFA or so we hope).
after A LOT of hate which went throught the phone, i updated the arrow rom to 5.1, deactivated FD, and nothing,i was getting 10% in 3 hours, for some reason i dont remember i rebooted the phone, and the darn phone still have the same charge from yesterday te phone have 24 hours of uptime (taking in account i have done some serious undervolt to the phone). i was getting about an hour per % an a half with hangouts and whatsapp freezed and in NO use or just checking the bat.
Not bad but too much work to have a "regulary updated" phone to work properly.
now i dont even know what will happen when i recharge the phone again what kind of behaivor will have this darn non-optimized phone I'll be reporting what happens.

Where do I find the setting for Fast Dormancy?
So I have had good battery from my note 2 - recently got a s4 love it! But 65 percent of the battery is used by the screen on automatic battery. I had a custom ROM it said the screen was taking a smaller percentage of my screen. Is this a fact or was I dreaming?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
The screen using the battery is because of you, the user. When the screen is off, it uses no battery. When it is on, it is using battery.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using xda premium
It all depends on the user...heres some tips ive learned to lower that precentage:
1) lower brightness (I know obvious)
2) use dark themes/wallpapers (lighter colors use up kore battery than dark ones on amoled screen...and I believe pure black actualy turns off the pixels, so a pure black background may help)
Ehh thats actually all I can think of...thought I had more lol

But I don't understand. I had the note 2 and had auto brightness because I want to see the phone in the day light. It never had 62 percent or 50 whatever percent using the screen. With a custom ROM I had more battery with clean rom

It depends on your usage. I am pretty sure that your daily usage is not the same. You do not get any screen usage with the screen turned off. Screen usage comes into play when the screen is on. For instance, yesterday, my screen took up 60% of my total usage. Today it was at 45%. A custom ROM has little to do with how the screen works.
Auto brightness varies as well... Too many factors that has nothing to do with the ROM. It is all user based.

Alright. Well, it said using auto brightness could save battery usage. But sometimes I have the save battery option on. Thought I'm not sure it helps more. I actually went to try and look for a post about " better battery stats" but for some odd reason, when going to it using my phone, it lags ridiculously bad! I haven't gone on a computer to see if it was in fact my phone. But, all other posts and topics are fine

The screen will always be number one user unless you didn't use your phone that day.
Like other people said, darker (black) themes. Set the time out really short and turn on Smart Screen. Auto brightness works fine for me, or you can manually turn it lower.

I assume it's the 4.2.2 camera bug that was in the news this week.
I have seen it many times on my Nexus 7.
I've finally found out what's causing the problem. It's AdAway.
When it can't download the hosts' file updating, it locks down one core and that's causes the cpu heating.
There is a bug (#476) about this problem.
Thank you everyone who tried to help me.
