Hey all, my Slim Armour finally arrived and have put it on, so far i am liking it so will see how it goes
However... sometimes when i pick it up and press the power button the phone vibrates, i cant remember if it was doing this before i put the case on as well
the case has gone on pretty well, was a pain to get on (split it into 2 parts) and the plastic bit is slightly slanted, not even 1mm though, tired to move it but it wont, you cant notice it unless you go looking for it
all the buttons work fine and cutouts are all lined up perfectly
i thought it was only when i had a text message on screen but it did it when there wasnt one, confused :S
its just done it again however this time i locked the screen after i received a message and a few secs later it vibrated
It's a feature. I don't know how to turn it off though. It must be somewhere in the Settings.
Everytime you recieve a message or any other notification and you don't check it, the next time you use the phone it vibrates to tell you that you have unread notifications.
Maybe someone who has a Note will tell you exactly how to turn it off. But don't worry, your phone is fine.

Hi -
I have got a new Samsung Galaxy S. After two days got everything configured and working to my liking - only to find out that when I receive a phone call, I cannot answer the phone by touching screen.
The screen is responsive, I mean I can see it is responding to me touching the green icon - just the behaviour aspect is not working. I have got a rooted phone with lag fix. I tried rebooting but no joy.
I can answer phone calls by physically pressing the home key. I really hope that it is not a hardware issue - as I have spend almost the entire weekend sorting it out.
Please help what should I do?
You do know you must slide the green icon across the screen in a left to right motion for it to answer, not just press the green icon. I first made that mistake when got my phone too

THANK YOU!!
I did not know that. Ah!, feel so stupid. You are a life saver
All working as it should.
Many thanks once again.
ahahaha. i REMEMBER that. good to know.
yeah it took me 3 seconds to realized that the first time i received a call, and i was PANICKING WHY IT'S NOT RESPONDING!!!!! yelling inside my mind
LOL
then i slid the red reject button (by mistake) and realized OHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I was supposed to slide the green one
that was a fun day
Hi
I have just bought a new LTE Google Nexus 4 and so far am very happy until yesterday when I made a call and the screen goes black in middle of call.
I am unable to power on or power off the phone.
Therefore today I have drained the battery.
Are there some special reset phone keys when I power the phone on, to reset everything and would this fix it ?
Thanks
The screen is supposed to turn off mid call if you are holding the phone to your face (proximity sensor,) I'm going to assume the issue is a bit more than that though. So to answer your question, go settings->backup/reset->reset to factory default, I may be a bit off on the verbiage but it should give you an idea what to look for.

Make sure you havent got a screen protector covering the sensors
screen protector problem?? if not than reset ur phone
I am unable to access any menu's to reset the phone as the phone is permanently switched off.
It must be the screen protector covering the sensor. I will try when I get home.
I will write an update later on to confirm this. I can't be the only person to of got caught out, lol

When it happened did you try holding down the power button for 10 seconds to force a reboot? I've had it lock up during a call and not allow me to do anything with out forcing a restart a couple of times since I've had my N4.
It was the screen protector had slid, and covered one of the sensors.
The force reboot trick may come in handy some day, thanks everyone !
I also had to cut my screen protector as it coveted the sensors.. As far as the phone was concerned as soon as a call came in and was answered the screen went off because it thought it was being held to my face which meant I couldn't cancel the call

Phone was working with no issues until the other day. I was viewing a web page and noticed the text didn't look quite right, it seemed to be shimmering. Then a bit later on switching to the camera app the screen was just a lot of green flashing lines, pressing home button worked and then starting the camera again it would either be the same or would work properly. Then later that evening after using the phone fine opening the s cover the screen would not come on but the menu and back buttons would light up, pressing the power button a couple of times would make the screen appear. Then that stopped working as well, and no even then back and menu buttons don't light up. the phone still seems to work as plugging in the headphones and pressing the button on them starts my music playing, but I can't get the screen to turn on at all.
The phone has never been dropped has been very well looked after and is immaculate , there are no scratches on the screen and I can't see any cracks (from a pressure break) either.
Any ideas?
this might sound like im trolling, but did you try turning it off and on again?
seriously, your screen is probably broken. send it to sammys customer service or whereever you bought your phone and let them check and/or repair it
Hi Guys,
got my S8 about 6 days ago. it's been working flawlessly and i've been really enjoying it.
Yesterday i took it out of my pocket and the screen wont turn on. it's completely black. i can hear it unlocking, i can even answer phone calls on it and talk, but again, can't see anything. I've tried hard resetting the phone (volume down & power button), it completely reboots, which you can hear the tune of it starting, but nothing. I've tried plugging it into the charger, still nothing.
I'm new to the samsung party, so i did some research naturally and found this was a common problem on the previous generations. Most cases were solved by removing the battery and reinstalling. however with this model, i can't do that. I've taken the phone back to at&t to get an exchange, and because i "preordered it," i need to go through customer service, which they are telling me i need to send the phone back, and because i do not have the original shipping box, i need to pay a 15% restocking fee to return the phone. THEN, they will take up to 5-7 days to send me a new phone. As you can tell, i'm a bit frustrated.
Any suggestions?

Tried it, nothing. I can feel the phone giving haptic feed back and clicking as i click the virtual home button too. I held it for upwards of 30 seconds.

darn. my brothers did that, and that is how he got it to power down. then it powered up normally
have you tried:

I tried all of that, however, i can't see the screen. So I'm not sure where i stand when i enter those modes. When the phone reboots normally, i have to enter my code manually the first time, which i can do, just by memory of the button placement on the screen, but as i said, can't see anything. I'm willing to try anything. At this point i'm just letting the phone sit idle and let the battery die, hopefully that will do something.

Damn, I got the exact same behavior on my S8+ today! sitting in the couch watching Hockey and I got all excited after the Caps crushed Penguins tried to send a text to a friend but the screen won't turn on? Tried everything above but screen is black..SUCKS!
I just got the same thing ..tried everything ..however the download did work ..and a blue screen came up and asked if i wanted to download so i pressed yes ...so we will see what happens
A friend and I both had this happen within a week of buying the phone. What it turned out to be in both our cases is the screen was on the very lowest brightness setting. We did not set this. Somehow it happened spontaneously. Go to the darkest place you can find and you should be able to return your screen to a normal brightness. I have a feeling this is going to be a recurrent problem with a software fix in the future.
I had a similar issue. I set the power saving option and it looked like the screen turned black. Only after going to a dark room could I tell it was on. It was a new level of dark I never seen even if you consider setting the brightness to its lowest setting.
same here,
during typing screen freesh and black out.
as death as a door knop. nothing worked none of the mentioned options by Samsung relieved me from a black and dead screen.
its now being collected for repair,
lets wait and see
Same here also.
After 7 days of using it I picked it up to check for notifications just to see the black screen.
Never let it fall or anything.
Unfortunately I will not get a replacement from my dealer but a repair. Let's see if we get a BSOD-gate ****storm with this.
Another BSOD here.
Less than 7 days of normal use, screen seems to be deade. I have haptic and sound feedback. Even the alarms are ringing all day long and I can't turn them off.
Now I'm waiting for the vendor to collect it since I requested a return due to defect.
I FINALLY understand what is going on with Samsung Black Screen of Death-- how it happens and what to do.
First off the bat -- IT'S A DESIGN FLAW IN PHONE! Here is what occurs to induce the Black Screen.
1.) As you lift the phone to your ear, the top of your ear touches the screen. The screen "understands" this to be your finger drawing down the "notifications" bar.
2.) If your ear comes off of the screen, when you place the surface back to hear, the screen "understands" this to be a 2nd time pulling down on the screen.
3.) At this time, your screen brightness "slider bar" is sitting smack dab in the middle of the screen. This 'slider bar' controls the brightness, from very bright to the screen turned off. Slide to the left, screen gets dim. Slide to the right, screen gets brighter.
4.) If your ear next touches the screen, it is almost always on the left side of the screen - no matter whether you are left or right-handed. The Samsung S8 + interprets this 3rd contact to the screen as you "instructing" the phone to turn the screen intensity to "off".
5.) You now have the "Black Screen of Death".
You can simulate this with just using your finger on the screen. Pull down the notifications bar ONCE. Then do it a SECOND TIME. You will now see the screen intensity "slider bar" before your eyes. It is the one with the half sun / half moon icon on the left side of the bar. If you move the little blue bar with your finger, going right to left, you will see the screen go dark.
These are the exact same movements your ear traces on the screen as you use your phone to answer a call or to talk on the phone. 3 accidental touches and the screen is BLACK and you don't understand how it happened.
This is a design flaw in the software. Samsung needs to change how the sllder bar controls screen intensity.
If you go into a very dark place, there will still remain a very faint glow from the screen. All you have to do is 2 finger swipes down, then with your finger push the slide bar back to the right- and VOILA -- you can see the screen again.
Hope this helps everyone until Samsung fixes the problem.

Doesn't the S8 have a proximity sensor like the iPhone to determine that the phone is being held up against someones ear?
I FOUND A RECOVERY FROM THIS!!
I just got the Black Screen of Death for the first time after owning the phone for 2 weeks - pretty alarming when the phone is unresponsive, you can't reboot with the power button, and you can't pull the battery. (Coming from an S5, this is my first phone with a non-removable battery). Even though I knew my phone was fully charged, I tried plugging it in, and didn't even get the red LED. Not good.
After a little Googling, the solution I found that worked for me was: Press and hold Down Volume + Power at the same time for 7 seconds.
This brings you to a screen with some options, the first being to reboot like normal.
Volume toggles up and down between the options, but be sure not to choose option 2, which is a factory reset!
The Bixby button selects, so I just clicked on option 1, and I was back in business.
This apparently does a "simulated battery disconnect". Assuming it was some sort of firmware crash, this should bring you back to life. It did for me. There are other suggestions on the page if it doesn't work, but I was back to life after step 1. Hope it helps...

Hi,
i have tome hassle with the hard press home thing.
Sometimes its working ok sometimes it does weird things.
for instance ... if i press the button hard it some times vibrates , when i let go it vibrates again and its unlocked... thats when i think its working correctly.
but sometimes it just vibrates two times although i didnt let go ...
sometimes on homescreen i swipe the homebutton slightly to clean it a bit... not hard pressing and its vibrating. sometimes one single time sometimes two times in a row .
anyone with the same issue ?
thanks
no one ?
Check what sensitivity you have the button set at. It could be too high or low.
I have mine set in the middle and never have an issue.
i tried severeal sensitivity settings ... sometimes it gets better and sometimes worse... but for me its not satisfying
i think i have to weit for an update or so ...
I had the exact same issue with my S8. Sometimes it just works, sometimes it doesn't detect it, sometimes it registers several hard presses even though I've barely touched it (sensitivity reduced as far as it goes).
This has been driving me crazy for the past week. The hard press function was unusable because of this.
At first I thought it's a software issue (something to do with calibration maybe?). I got an update which didn't fix it. I tried resetting it which didn't work either so I sent it back to Samsung yesterday. Waiting to see what they have to say about it.
The lack of complaints about this so far made me think it's just a weird issue with my unit.
I'm having exactly the same problem and it's driving me nuts for not knowing if it's a hardware or a software problem.
I've googled around and this is the only thread so far. Seems like there are very few people with this issue.
Let me know how the repair request went.
i sent it back also
new one is coming tomorrow ... lets see... will report
I have that issue too. Dont know what to do.

Oh wow, that's really fast. I still haven't heard anything from them. Did they give any information about what's wrong (hardware/software)?
no ... i didnt sent it back to samsung.
i bought it from amazon.de and ordered a replacement.
thats faster
it will arrive today then i can sent back my first one...
same here, having issues with the home press function .
I also send it back to the shop where I bought it
I´ve send mine back to the webshop also. My mate got his s8 2 days ago and his hard press was perfect and responded smoothly all the time. So i guess it must be a hardware problem.
Will share more info when i get feedback from the repair.
Same problem here, sometimes it works, sometimes (when the device is in standby) it works only after several tries and pressure in different spots.
Can someone who has got a new device or sent it to repair report if it is better now?
Hardware issue... my replacment Works fine now
Same problem
I have this issue also. Mostly it works, but sometimes it doesn't work and the phone hesitates to come back to life. If I press the power button after hard pressing the home button or just wait 5-10 seconds, the screen will come on. Oddly, when it doesn't work (and occasionally when it does), the small vibration thing happens. I have this turned off, but sometimes when hard pressing the home button, I get the vibration, but the screen won't come on. Other times, I get the vibration and the screen will come on. Mostly I don't get the vibration and the screen comes on. Annoying.

As i said ... it seems to be a Hardware issue. Get a replacement
Mine does this often, i personally could care less for the home button function so I set the sensitivity to max and yet at times if I barely touch the home button area it acts like I have hard pressed the button.

I have the same problem maybe even worse. To me it looks like it is accumulating presses, the more times I press the button the more times it vibrates. So at the end I sometimes get 4 or more vibrations for just one press. Sometimes after I lock the screen it vibrates by itself and turns on the screen.
Looks like I'll get mine replaced ASAP.
Got the same issue once in a while.. also have a faint red glow on the screen. Considering getting it replaced but dont want to wait for a replacement.
