[Q] Stock nandroid backup of MF3 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

So like an idiot, I upgraded my firmware to MF3, which is fine for now, BUT I used nandroid manager to restore some system apps by mistake which were from the previous firmware and now they are not working. Can someone please upload a fresh nandroid backup of the ATT GS4 MF3 for only the system apps? Thanks

If you don't have other modifications to the system, just flash the MF3 unadulterated ROM to the stock slot using Safestrap and flash the root package from the thread or reroot with the sd card method

Restoring a Nandroid backup?

So I made a backup of my stock TW state with TWRP and then flashed over to a custom ROM.
Is it safe to just restore the backup of the original stock, rooted TW ROM?

yes
I didn't Loki my original TW though. Would that be a prob?
I just installed the recovery via Goo Manager and flashed a Loki'd ROM

Why would you need to Loki the original TW? It's a signed AT&T ROM, it's gonna verify just fine with or without loki

There like a 99.99999% chance you won't brick going from odex to deodexed
So yes you can install Sacs ROM .

All you have to do is flash Phiz recovery via PC Odin to give you a custom recovery. Here's the tar
However if you own Mobile Odin PRO, and since you say you are rooted, you can flash the .tar through Mobile Odin PRO. [just make sure it's updated to latest version]; then select 'recovery' in the options then the .tar.md5 file.
Download Sac's latest on you PC check the md5sum and transfer to you externalSD card, boot to recovery and flash 4.3
Then follow Sac's install instructions. Especially important is the wiping procedure. rlmiller has a good writeup here.
Spend some time reading and searching through the OPs and follow-up posts and you'll do okay.
Good luck.
Did you get it up and running?

Yes I did thanks for your help

And if you wanna re odex it... DL titanium backup and hit menu then press "integrate dalvik into sys" then reboot!

4.4.2 root nb1

I have a question. If nb1 is unrootable now, how can a pre rooted nb1 rom exist? And also, if i use safestrap method, since safestrap installs the rom along the stock, wont the usable internal storage become smaller?

This thread has some info.
Also, you can replace stock rom itself through safestrap

See the above for how the stock rooted NB1 was made.

N9005 Recovery and Root

Hi guys.
Question... Some custom roms require you to be rooted to then install a recovery to then backup your efs partition. Is this true? I think I've flashed twrp, then backed up everything I wanted too (not rooted) then just flashed a custom rom. All to lost are rooted anyway and the root part as far as I know is in the system. So does it matter if you root before recovery? Or can I just flash twrp, backup efs, then flash say xnote?
Thanks in advance!!

Yes, as most custom roms are pre-rooted you can just nandroid backup and EFS and after that flash the rom. You will not be able to restore apps with Titanium Backup as TB requires root. If you have a TB backup on your computer stored you can restore user apps and data after the flash.
Thanks gee2012.
The only benefit to rooting before recovery flash is to use like you said TB to backup your stuff?
It doesn't bear any difference when flashing the recovery does it?
On this, one other thing, there's no known way of flashing twrp without tripping Knox is there?

Nope, all KK roms (i think from MJ4 and up) trip the KNOX warranty void, no workaround so far. TB backsup and restores user apps and data while the nandroid backup does the whole rom (user and system data).
Spose I could backup then restore in the custom rom from TB from nandroid backup couldn't I? TB had that functionality last time I used it I think.
Is the latest version 2.7 of twrp? Or would you recommend CWM at the moment?
Thank again mate, this is all very helpful. Feel like a noob with all this Knox crap, I've been flashing for years but, I always make sure I know what I'm getting into before I do.
Just found out too, if I rooted in 4.3, I could if kept root to 4.4.2 then used mobile Odin to flash roms haha. And kept Knox from tripping... Oh hang on, a custom kernel would probably tripped it anyway...

For me it seems CWM is more stable atm then TWRP. Try Philz Touch CWM or Chenglu CWM and keep the one you like most. Flash the downloaded .tar files with Odin 3.07.
Thanks mate. Oh well, here we go, tripping Knox!! Haha.
Might go for CWM then.
Thanks again.

Make sure to disable Kies in windows task manager before you use Odin, it might interfere and faill the operation and enable usb debugging on the phone and uncheck reactivation lock in security.
Look here to backup and restore EFS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447342.

Backup Recovery

Hi guys,
I flashed Jasmine 5.0 and I have a safestrap backup that I want to access without flashing it. Is there any way to access media off that without flashing it? Is it even possible to flash and 4.4.2 rooted stock ROM from Jasmine 5.0? I've heard a little about virtual ROMS but I don't know much about them. Is it possible to load my backup on a virtual ROM?
Thanks all!

You might be able to access files in the backup using titanium backup.
