Vzw g2 root problems - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK so I rooted my Vzw g2, verified root access. Installed busybox, superuser is installed, got ROM manager and installed cwm recovery. And when I boot into recovery it just says no command and shows the little android guy. What is the problem? I can't backup or anything

You are at the stock recovery screen. The recovery didn't stick. Never install recovery with ROM Manager. Find TWRP for your device and install it with flashify.

Thanks man. Worked like a charm.

[Q] Recovery

I unlocked and rooted my n7 16g wifi with the Wugs Nexus Root Tolkit and apparently flashed TWRP, but i cant access to it. Its safe to flash it with the goo.imm app?
Sorry my english
If you selected to flash 'custom recovery' the one below the root button in Nexus root toolkit.
Once your device is fully booted up after being rooted. You will then see a new app on your device called like quick boot.

I had that on the Nexus 10. Was the recovery CWM? If so try TWRP. I did and I haven't looked back. No offense to CWM because I like it, just didn't work with my Nexus 10 so I flashed TWRP on both my Nexus 10 and my Nexus 4
Check the stickied guide.
Post one on getting recovery to stick.

[Q] Root Broken Nexus 7

Hello i want to root my 4.2.2. Nexus 7. Its latest android OS.
I successfully unlocked, but for root
the USB DEBUGGING thing is not being happend.
As i have to touch to authorize the computer.
Is there another way i could do it.
I am not that good with Androids still i am a bit techy. So a little help would be awesome.
I need to root my nexus to install DroidMote Server so i can use my nexus 4 to operate Nexus 7.
Is that a good idea?
Download superuser or superSU binary in your device, install or boot a custom recovery (CWM, TWRP) using fastboot and then flash the su binary you have downloaded previously with the recovery.
Hi that sounds greatt and easy
Can you provide instructions or tuts maybe

Ok thank you. im gonna try it!

How do I manually re-root 4.3 and update SU binaries?

I was rooted on 4.2.2 and checked for the system update for 4.3. It was there so I got really excited and installed it immediately, without writing a thread about it, making sure I'm not doing something wrong. Well, I was.
It updated to 4.3 and it works fine, but I can't access TWRP (I get an opened Android with a red X over it). Also, when I go into SU, I get a message saying "There is no SU binary installed. ... If you've just upgraded to 4.3, you need to manually re root your device."
How do I do this? Thanks.

Toolkits cannot flash the recovery on Android 4.3 so you have to download the recovery image and flash the recovery image using "fastboot flash recovery [Replace_this_with_image_name]" and enter while your Nexus 4 is on bootloader mode to flash the recovery properly.
Now you need to transfer the SuperSU v1.51 zip file to the root of your internal storage and install it via TWRP recovery and then you are fully rooted without any TB restore issues or anything like that.

Thank you so much, but I don't quite understand the first part since I've only rooted my Nexus 4 once, using a toolkit. I hope you don't mind, I have a few questions: Where do I download the recovery image and where do I type the text you wrote?
Thanks so much!

I rooted and unlocked my device with a Toolkit but the problem is that you do not know what is exactly going on since you cannot see the commands.
You have to get the Android SDK for this one, I already have it all in a zip file but that is on my laptop and I will be working on my phone today by installing PA.
One you get the SDK you have to go into the SDK manager and download/update the ADB tools, after that open the CMD in the folder which says "Platform-tools" and type the command from there.
Has for the image you have to put it in platform-tools has well for this to work:

KitKat update fails repeatedly

I am stock rooted with 4.3.1 JLS36i with latest twrp recovery and ElementalX 1.8 kernel. I have tried OTA, which reboots into twrp where the install fails, adb sideload via twrp's advanced sideload, and install from device directly using zip file on device and twrp. All fail repeatedly with "fail" in a red font. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Try to restore stock kernel before update.
Optional: restore stock recovery

Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking the same thing. Do you know where I can download the stock kernel. Can't seem to find it.

Not really. I use the nexus root kit by wugfesh, it downloads the stock kernel and you can restore it with the toolkit

Good suggestion. Downloading new Wugtresh version now. I have used it but didn't think it would install stock kernel. Which kernel do you use for KitKat?

Well. I installed the stock kernel, but it failed again. I used Tim's sideload method. The twrp error is: "E: error executing updater binary in zip '/data/media..." Twrp cut off the rest of the error message
