Hey Guys
So this morning, i wanted to try to change the DPI because Themer didn't work, and I read in a comment Google Play Store that the DPI should be changed.
But when i changed the DPI, and restartet my phone, my phone got stuck in my Clockworkmod Recovery, and automaticly boots into recovery. I tried to restore to stock backup, but it didn't work.
I am completely lost, and i can't flash a new recovery in ODIN, which i tried because Clockworkmod won't let me mount usb storage. It says that my PIT partition has been removed, and then fails.
I don't know what to do, anyone please help, i am desperate!!!
Thanks in advance

Your using custom roms in twrp or cwm recovery? If so then you're on mdl firmware. Try to re-flash the rom. If that doesn't work you might have to odin the stock mdl firmware

I do not have the ROM on my sd-card, so i can't reflash. I can't mount usb storage, so i can't copy the ROM to my SD Card. I don't care if i lose everything, or have to go on stock mdl firmware.
Just tell me what to do, to fix my phone, and i'll do that - it's a lot of money to lose
That only way i can connect the phone to my PC is with odin, and then the ID-COM is not green but yellow. Hope it gives you some more info, otherwise just ask.
Thanks

Yellow comm is ok as long as the port shows up. Go to sammobile.com and download the mdl firmware. You'll have to register but it's free. Then use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file from the zip you'll download. Use that file in the PDA slot in Odin.
There is no mdl firmware for GT-I9505 which is my phone.

I assumed you had an i337. Let me look at sammobile
Edit, what country and carrier are you?
Allright!
So i tried to mount usb storage one last time in CWM - In windows i opened device manager, and found a device called SamsungPHONE or somehting like that which had a yellow triangle, so i tried to update and find a driver. And then suddenly it worked! I copied the ROM to my SD card, and when that it had finished copying i wiped data and cache.
then i installed the zip, and rebooted! AND it works!! Finally, goddamn i was scared at that point!
Thanks for the help so far jd1639 - i almost gave up, but then you came!
Now one more thing: I don't want to be en this situation again, so how can i install TWRP without screwing everything up?
CWM is no longer an option for me!
THANKS AGAIN jd1639
(It might seem simple, but when things like this happens, I definitely am too big a noob.

I have had several custom roms using TWRP with no problems. Today I decided to try pacman rom and nandroid backed up my negalite wonderom. downloaded pacman to external card, rebooted to TWRP. I formatted internal storage and did full wipes on everything but external sd. I tried installing pacman zip and get FAILED unzipping and updating partition. so I then try flashing my old rom and get same error. I then nandroid back to previous rom and boots as expected. If i reboot again, I get stuck on samsung galaxy s4 boot screen. I've tried repeating all these steps but now I am without a phone until one of you nice people help me. What can I do? Please help.

During this whole ordeal, I was trying to install CWM over TWRP and accidentally checked repartition in ODIN, it didn't seem to do anything ..just hanged and I pulled battery. I am now wondering if this screwed anything up and if so, what can I do?

Take out battery. Put in back in. Go to stock recovery (by pressing volume up and power button and letting go when you see tiny blue letters) from there just do a factory reset then reboot. Dont worry if you a dead android its ok. Then you should be ok.

Well from my understanding we should not have repartition checked. Dont know the outcomes tho but im pretty sure now you need pit files for gs4 sprint to remap the partitions for your phone back the way it was. Should be here in xda but if you cant find them then just odin again a stock tar and do a factory reset in stock recovery. See if that works.
Back to Stock but have a question
So I was able to successfully odin back to stock. I am confused about format data vs wipes. I had some issues on a ROM and someone in a forum advised to format to truly erase any junk left behind by other roms. I did this in TWRP and installed a rom and it fixed the former issues I had on that rom. So I thought I had a new strategy, to format not just wipe.
So now I have CWM and don't even see the option to format data. If I want to make sure I erase everything, how do I ? Just doing factory reset, wipe data, cache and dalvik seems to leave files behind including personal files on internal storage. Just want to learn the best practices to avoid issues. I am kinda glad this happened, been a learning lesson. Thanks to all!
Software/Baseband Version MDC to MF9
After ODIN back to stock I am on MDC and want to get back to MF9. This is the procedure I used a few months ago HERE Is this the best way? Thanks.

Its better if you just accept ota (*optional* do a factory reset when already at mf9.) Or just get the mf9 stock tar and just odin that when you have problems
You can download the mf9 tar here

OK, I am confused but eager to learn. I just did a ODIN back to stock, I am now unrooted. I did a factory reset in stock recovery. Now I think I should be able to click update firmware to get to MF9 but it says no updates found or I am up to date. I don't get this. Why is it not finding any updates?
Even More Confused!
edit
Ok, it is downloading MF9 in background now. Not sure why it initially said no updates found. I should be good now. Thanks!
Hey guys, I am not new to this scene and have been running, flashing, roms since the S2. Today I ran into a major problem I cant seem to fix. I am running TWRP 2.5.0.2, always have for about 4 months with no issues. Today I did a complete Titanium Backup + recovery backup of my rom. After that I wiped for a fresh new rom install and noticed the rom I placed onto my internal storage is not there (it was def there in its own folder but through TWRP its not there). No biggie right? Just mount USB storage and put it somewhere else that TWRP can get to, but then USB wont mount on Windows now. No biggie right? Ill just restore the rom, put it in another directory, then wipe and reflash. However none of my backups are showing up when I hit restore, I had like 3 backups and everything is gone.
At this point what do I do? I tried everything to mount usb from recovery but windows wont take it (win 7). Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Nevermind guys I was able to get around it by putting the SD card from my S4 into the S2 and putting the rom files into another location. Once that was done placed it back into the S4, booted into recovery and flashed it. (phew!)

Did you do an internal 'sd card'/media data wipe?
Best bet would be to Odin back to stock and start from scratch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261573
Then from there just use casual to root and install TWRP in one easy step and you're back:

I know what I did, I was using Touchwiz and instead of doing a regular wipe I did a format and input "YES". I heard TW has major issues with this and thus screwed me up completely.
To add to my list above I tried this method and also did not work. http://androidfannetwork.com/2013/05/02/fix-your-soft-bricked-att-samsung-galaxy-s4/
Sean, I flashed from Odin like 3 times, how can I install TWRP if I cant get the phone to load up (boot loop)- Ill read up on casual. Thanks.

Did you do a factory reset in the stock recovery after Odin? That'll usually get you past the boot loop.
Should I ODIN with the RE-Partition Option?
Just Odined again and no dice. I booted into stock recovery and noticed after wiping factory I get "Can't open /efs/log/boot_cause" which pointed me to this fix someone on the Galaxy note forum said they did and it worked but I dont understand the steps, need some elaboration.

Yep did that mulitple times, also did wipe cache partition in the same stock recovery. I get to the Samsung logo where the blue halo spins around the name, then it freezes there and reboots.
Hmm, never had to mess with EFS stuff on our phones before.
Did you make a backup ever in TWRP by chance?
Sorry if you tried the stock recovery options there's not much more I'm familiar with.
The good news is since you were able to Odin and get 3e back, you are technically warrantied again and could work with AT&T to get a new phone since your phone just stopped working out of the blue one day

Try flashing using cwm. It'll probably work fine. Then you can go back to twrp. That's worked on other devices. Seems one you flash it once with cwm then twrp works from that point forward. Idk why

I tried flashing with a PIT file I found online but it fails through ODIN everytime. I tried on multiple versions of ODIN as well. I also cant seem to find readily available PIT files to test as well, (perhaps the one I used does not work). Also I did try to flash a CWM through ODIN but failed, but again there isnt anything that I have read that says "hey you can do this that way and it will work".
From what I understand I need to be rooted to install CWM or TWRP, and since I unrooted to try and fix the problem I cannot root myself through conventional methods. Everything I found online requires the phone to completely start up. (to the menu screen etc)
What stock firmware are you flashing with odin? I get firmware from sammobile.com. since you had a custom recovery I'm guessing you where on mdl firmware to start with.

Do you know what firmware you were on? Was it mdl or mf3?
So, I got jealous of my brother... I too wanted a custom rom for my GT-i9500... I downloaded "pac_jfltexx-Black-Power-Edition_20140106"....
Downloaded Gapps.. After I did all the steps, which were:
1. Wipe cache
2. Wipe Data/factory reset
3. Wipe dalvik cache
4. Format /system
Then I selected, install zip from external SD card... I saw that, it said during installition, "Installing for i9505", and I was like whaa!?!? Afterwards, I did a search on the internet that what happens when we format system, it said that you ought to install a ROM because the system is without an OS..
After realizing my mistake, I STILL went ahead and installed it like a retard xD..
And now again I did all the above steps, somehow I have the CWM 6.0.3.3 still installed and opened right here... I am not able to do anything on my phone... Please tell me how to overcome this situation...
I searched on the internet, I found out that I can still install any ROM. I'm downloading KingCobra ROM build 5...
Now what do I do?
P.S.- I have a nandroid backup, but its not on my phone's sd card or the ext sd card, its on my computer, can I do anything with that backup and use odin to flash the backup?

But, I don't know how to put it there...My computer is not showing my device in My Computer..?
I have an idea.. I am going to put the downloaded ROM on the extSDcard via a Card Reader, and then maybe I can flash it? Or I can put my nandroid backup there?
Will this work?
Alright, so I put the KingCobra on the extSDcard via card reader, and I flashed it after wiping cache, data/facotory reset, system /format, and wipe dalvik cache....
I flashed it. But I didn't flash the Gaaps since it wasn't written there...
My phone proceeded the display "Samsung GT-i9500", then the music played of Samsung, and right now it's just there, the LED giving off blue light, getting dim and bright, I am just there for the last 5 minutes..
P.S.- The zip of KingCobra was of 1.4 GB...I downloaded the build 5 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2497087
It's still stuck, what to do? Or just sit back since it's a big ROM?
Finlyno Had
Okay, I read on the KingCobra forum place on XDA. It said, that I'll have to flash a pit file. And many other instructions which I didn't understand. The startup sucked my whole phone's battery, and the only change was that the LED started to blink in Green color as well as Blue... Right now, my phone is just lying, I'm charging the battery, and it's playing the Red LED.
Please help, I don't know what to do.

Pretty sure you were told in the first reply you got to go get a stock rom from Samfirmware & flash it with Odin to get a 'clean slate' & to then either re-root your phone and try flashing the custom rom again (and maybe read the flashing instructions for the rom in question this time) or restore a backup.
Oh...Look...That's exactly what you were told (and you haven't done it)
You clearly have no idea what you're doing (how to recover in particular, and obviously how to flash the rom in question as well), I strongly suggest you do what was suggested (flash a stock rom) if you want your phone working again anytime soon.
If you have philz recovery, then you can attach a memory stick with an usb otg cable, and make a restore from there, or install a new rom

Okay people, everyone, thanks for your help,
I followed this guide:

I don't care about the applications.. XD
Hello,
I was modifying build.prop, had made a backup and saved it in another folder in my phone, after modifying, I think it's because I've forgotten to set permissions or something, now I'm unable to bootup after rebooting.
Any idea how do I solve this? I've read online something about adp or something, but I've totally no clue about these.
Is there anyone who has a solution to this?
With sincerity
Xituc
If you did a backup and have TWRP, just delete the old build.prop in /system, move the backup there and set permissions. ;

System, data, internal sd, cache, what did you wipe? If you:
1. Wiped data/system :- you can only flash a new rom since you don't know ADB. Or flash stock via odin.
2. Internal sd :- that's it, flash stock firmware via odin.

Either reflash your custom ROM via TWRP (dirty flash and it'll keep your data etc) or do a stock flash via ODIN and start again. Can't remember if you can use ADB to restore your build.prop been an age since I used an N3.

My computer doesn't have my device in device manager when I've connected it, was unable to try using ADB earlier when I've tried, any idea why?
Anyway, can you direct me to a guide way I can do a stock flash via ODIN? I'm seeing so many threads in this forum but I've no idea which one is suitable for my phone.
Thanks!!

If you were using stock then you'll need to have a read around general and learn how to flash with ODIN. It's pretty straight forward, you can grab official ROMs from either here on XDA or Sam mobile/firmware. The link escapes my mind currently.
If you were using a custom ROM, download to your PC and use ADB Side load or download to your External SD Card and flash via recovery.
You can use THIS for ADB drivers, it's 15second ADB install and it should work for you.

For Stock you'll need the ROM for your region, this is quite important otherwise it causes headaches. For custom, it's entirely up to you, you can choose any TouchWiz based (stock look and feel - I personally recommend AllianceROM by @sparky b for TW based) Or AOSP based (Pure Android with no Samsung features - Temasek's ROM is stellar in this department and the new OMNIROM for the Note 3 will be superb once the dev has it sorted 100%, it's still being debugged and beta tested currently and dev tree's etc redone, stop by @jakew02's thread and have a read at where he is up to)
If you have the N9005 you'll be OK to use any custom ROM for that device. Just stay away from the Exynos (N900) ROMs as they won't work and will brick your phone.
I've recommended a couple of ROMs which are both Stable and feature filled plus one which will be great once fully flying. Other ROMs in the development section are just as great, however, I can only comment on the two I used solidly when I had my Note, and the one's I have ran on other devices. But ultimately it's your choice.
Hi Guys
Hope you are well. Need some help here.
I installed twrp via ODIN, and also rooted my stock i9500. I did not do anything else.
I then booted into recovery wiped etc etc (Forgot to make a backup) and flashed GT-I9500XXUGNJ1_OzcanRom_Aroma_v6.2.zip ROM.
Rebooted, the SAMSUNG logo came up, its animating, and is not booting into the OS? I also wiped again and flashed ROM
Prism-Barebone-V13-NJ1.zip (Also tried another recovery CWM, same thing)
Did i miss anything, or how would i get this device recovered?
Anyone?
Are you sure that you wait long enough?

HI Lenny,
I was waiting about an hr, i know the initial boot usually takes long, but the device is also getting hot?
Not sure if i did anything wrong.... but it just gives me the spinning Samsung logo
Well then either you didn't wipe properly or somehow the .zip file is damaged.

Okay,
I tried 2 different ROMS.
I followed the wipe intructions exactly...
Let me try again.

Did you flash from a external sd? Or did you copy it to your internal storage? Try both methods.

Hi
No go, i cannot load it on internal, as the device does not boot up.
I am currently downloading the stock firmware to load via ODIN. I hope this works
But the custom ROMS just dont want to work...
Sorted
Thanks!
I got it resolved.
I found out, that my Root was not successfull. After ODIN firmware flash, i rerooted, installed customer ROM and it booted up!

Glad you got it working but your explanation is unlikely.
Root has nothing to do with flashing custom roms. You don't need root to flash a custom rom, just a custom recovery. It's probably just the reflashing of the stock rom that fixed it.
