News about Jelly Bean 4.3 and KitKat 4.4 - Xperia SP General

Sony announces phones that will receive upgrades to JB 4.3 and 4.4 KitKat. Our SP goes to version 4.3
Link: http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2013/11/07/on-jelly-bean-4-3-kit-kat-4-4/

In the 4.4 List No ZR is included.. So its means ZR cant handle the Update Ha? Its shame... I am sure Sony will change The Update list and we will get 4.4

Almost certain the SP will get 4.4 at some point – I doubt we’ll get the one after that though.

hope this isn't a false hope... clicky vvvvv

I agree, they did say the "first raft" to get 4.4, which implies that there will be more rafts to come :good:

I am not worried. SP will get 4.4 , but don't expect it any sooner then q2 2014. But we will have 4.3 to keep us busy until that time comes. :highfive:
If you look at gsmarena they allready read betwen the lines of what SONY said and in the SP descripition they posted this "OS Android OS, v4.1 (Jelly Bean), planned upgrade to v4.4 (KitKat)"

I am 90% sure that our Xperia SP will get 4.4. "First raft" says it all. In second raft should be ZR and SP. Until then, we will have 4.3 next month So expect from Sony a Christmas gift

I don't understand why the SP and specially the ZR are not in this first list.. this means they will probably get it whenever they want and that will be at the end of their cycle.. so they don't need to update them anymore. Its a shame what companies like sony and lg are doing to the Android community, really really sad.

The SP and ZR do have certain big differences though, as the SP only has 1GB RAM and 1.7GHz Dual core while the ZR has 2GB RAM and 1.5GHz Quad core. Just from those facts alone, you can tell that the ZR is more futureproof than the SP and having 4.4 on the ZR won't literally mean we can also have it on the SP. But we all do hope we can have 4.4 on our SPs.

Performance doesnt mean anything because 4.4 Kit-Kat is designed to run on low performance phones with as low as 512MB ram. Beasts like SP and ZR will eat Kit-Kat for dessert

If your talking about more usable Ram than 766MB than I hope so,
but general ram allocation issues can be fixed by tweaking minfree values.
try ram manager po, or autokiller memory optimizer.

New Firmware listed for 2011 Xperia devices

Just read this and wanted to share.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/12/1...d&utm_campaign=Feed:+XperiaBlog+(Xperia+Blog)
"Sony has some new firmware on the horizon for the 2011 Xperia handsets. Firmware version number 4.1.B.1.13 is likely to be a new version of Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. It has been certified for all 2011 handsets apart from the Xperia PLAY. We have no idea what improvements it will bring over the current firmware (4.1.B.0.587), but as it’s the first new firmware in months, we expect bug improvements and maybe some significant enhancements too. "

A pity it won't be for the xperia play.
I've just learned to live with Gingerbread on this phone.
Went out and bought a 32GB microsd card and loaded it up with PS1 roms, stuck in the extended battery, and using it as a pure gaming device, with occasional phone calls

The only good I can see from these updates woudl be in porting some of the new features (or all) to our phone. Otherwise I would agree with you. Plus, its nice to know that Sony is releasing a update for 2011 phones at the end of 2012.
"If" they do hav a stock Ics for our Play then it "should be" the best ics we can get. Coz its thier job & duty to giv the best to all sony consumer. I'll take it.

Honestly, we can get panoramas, notification toggles, data management, lock screen widgets and many other "improvements" of 4.x without 4.x... so I'd rather just keep the integrity of my gaming intact.

Android 4.2.2 Certified

Hi folks,
Some of you may have noticed that Android 4.2.2 JellyBean has been certified through PTCRB for our device (SGP321).
More on XperiaBlog, but can't be too long now. http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/06/2...e-certified-for-xperia-tablet-z-10-3-a-0-407/
Will be interesting to see if the UI changes on the Z are also on the Tablet Z.
Based on how the Xperia Z and ZL were updated, I doubt that Sony will change the UI.
But we can. Once the system dump leaks.
Edit: I thought you talking about the Z Ultra. My bad.
Thats great news, im placing my bets on sony making a come back with quality devices, software, and support

Will Sony drop the traditional tablet UI in favour for the Nexus 10 phone layout?
Reading on Wiki and video reviews of android 4.2.2 tablets, none seem to adopt the Tablet UI we currently have.

I doubt they well. It's one of the good things they have going on
heard the interface has become much more smoother on 422 but not many changes in UI etc. no multi user support either.
Please no phablet UI Sony. It's one of the things i hated about my Nexus 7 and why i put PA on it straight away.
I tried CM10.1 on my Z Tab yesterday and couldn't stand the phablet ui. It's just so unintuitive and wastes space.
I hope they'll release or at least "leak" it soon. The current firmware is quite stable and fast, but the slightly laggy UI and the mediaserver bug (has nothing to do with Sony, well known problem within 4.1.2) need to be ironed out.
Xperia Tablet Z to received 4.2.2 from early August. So could be as early as next week:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/07/2...ia-zr-to-get-android-4-2-2-from-early-august/
Don't celebrate too early.
On Xperia Z the 4.2.2 update is buggy...
It's well possible that it could be better to remain on 4.1.2 until some dev releases a usable 4.2.2 custom ROM with the device-specific features intact.

Sony plans to deliver Android 4.3 upgrade to Xperia SP

So, Sony’s Jelly Bean 4.2 upgrade for Xperia Z and Xperia ZL is well underway* – next up, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z will start receiving 4.2 from early August.
Yesterday you probably saw Google announce the next version of Jelly Bean (Android 4.3) – we’re already getting stuck in and can confirm we’ll make 4.3 available for: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra…
We’re also looking at uplifting some of our other devices running 4.1 direct to 4.3 – we’ll share more info / deets / timings when we can, so be sure to follow @sonymobileNews for all the latest.
If you fancy learning a little bit more about the technical side of our software development, check out Developer World’s latest piece on how we’re improving and refining our efforts to bring users new Android versions.
On that note, thank you for all the feedback on our Jelly Bean 4.1 rollout for Xperia 2012 products – we’re aware the process hasn’t been as succinct or as timely as you might’ve expected. As part of Developer World’s piece, Fredrik Ekstrand, our Head of Software Product Management, elaborates on some of the reasons for this, but essentially – we’ve heard your frustrations and are constantly improving the way we do things.
If you have any questions, feel free to drop them below.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to be wrong They are currently doing big efforts to be efficient and that why I bought a sony device in the first place.
They are the first to reply at the google announce so I hope for the best.
I would like to suggest the DEV Team to pay special attention to the Camera and Audio quality on the latest Xperia 2013 line , Using the the exmor sensor and as it was hyped the quality is just horrible and unacceptable from a sony device.
Just release the AOSP for this! Then the "XDA Dev Team" *lol* can take over..
It owuld be much easier for them.

Sony Xperia SP’s bug-fixing update (12.1.A.1.192) delayed by a month !

A few days ago we informed readers that an Android 4.3 update that included some bug fixes was about to start rolling out for the Sony Xperia SP. French carrier SFR had announced that the firmware update to build 12.1.A.1.192 had been approved and would start rolling out later that day. This gave hope that the update would also arrive soon for other regions, but now the same carrier has confirmed that this Xperia SP update has been delayed.
This latest update will bring performance and stability improvements and it was hoped that it would also fix bugs from an earlier Android 4.3 update. Sadly the update failed to arrive as stated by SFR, and the carrier has now clarified the situation, saying that Sony has delayed the release by a month, pushing it back from March 21 to April 21. This is said to be because of an issue that Sony has identified.
At this stage we have no way of knowing whether the same update will eventually arrive or whether a new update will be certified, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on this and will keep you informed. We also recently reported on a petition that had been started to bring Android 4.4 to the Xperia SP, but this news about the latest 4.3 firmware update is bound to frustrate many Sony Xperia SP owners, especially those still plagued with problems from the earlier update.

They are talking about a "FOTA" issue, Or at least that was what I read earlier
i think new version will be certified soon...
I think the carrier made a mistake between .166 and .192 . I have already heard about this carrier releasing updates long after official update. I think the one they were talking about was just the update from 4.1 to 4.3 ( I read the official post in French and it looked more like this )

... At least flickering have to be fixed in this delay.. :/
Oh man, first of all the first update was released too soon because they knew they were behind so they tried to repay or delay further anger of their users by releasing if earlier. And now this new update that should finally work properly will be released god knows when.
I've been on 4.1 for 3 years now, before SP on my former xperia. In a year from now I'm a getting a new phone because the contract allows me that. So basically I can only hope to play with my SP 4.3 for less than a year which is really sad, and I regret my decision chosing it. To me the android version is all there is to phones nowadays, they are just displays running software..

Thank you for your very constructive comment.
But, I don't like Samsung, because their design and plastic Samsung is not my thing...
No doubt that Samsung makes better phones, but my heart beats for those of Sony.
Despite the problem of the updates, the rest is very good.
Sony him, has a very sober and simple purist modern design. And he keeps the aspect of Android AOSP with the touch of Sony.
Touchwiz is so... gayfriendly. Seriously, for my part.

Kit Kat in Z1 gives lower results than 4.3, but overhall performance is way smoother =)
Btw, I bought a SP, unbranded, currently with 4.3 Global, I wonder, could you create a .ftf of 4.3 unbranded PT, or the previous firmware, if it has less bugs??
:victory:

So, when do you think 5.1.1 is coming?

Sony rolled out android 5.1.1 for the Z2 and Z3 a while back and said other devices would get it in the following weeks! It's been awhile now and they didn't even certify a new build yet :/ I'm starting to think Sony is going to say that 2gb of ram is not enough to run the latest android
When do you guys think it's coming?
Are you waiting for the update or are you happy with the os right now?
i am really getting annoyned with the ram management if they wont update it , atleast fix the memory management e.e
Yes agreed. My phone has become barely usable because of that ****ty memory management in 5.0.2. They should really move on to 5.1.1 because that's ruined for too long now. What fears me though is that the new version is still not published on PTCRB which means it won't be available in the next two weeks... We will have to wait somewhere in September probably.

It hasnt been certified yet , usualy the update comes after 2 weeks after certification.
Xperia z1 will be another fail just like xperia sp
Since launch it still has bad multitasking
And sony will discontinue it's update cycle along with the original xperia z
So i think z1 z1c zu z and zr wont get the taste of android M imo
, they said they would release it the following weeks after z2 update, not the following month/s
Yeah, 5.1 was a let down on other devices, will not be any different with the Z1. Looking for a long battery life and fast ROM based on 4.4.4. Already went back on my other devices.

Probably will stick with fxp if the Z1 won't get the M . i've seen mods that allows you tu use 4k and other camera features from the stock rom on cm and other aosp rom so i will not loose great things going to fxp or cm

What's your source? As it is not yet on PTCRB there's no way it is going to be released this week.
actually i think and hope that they delayed the 5.1.1 to include the stagefright patch in the next update

It is live right now. Anyway a lot of users have problems with 5.1.1 on z3 so maybe Sony will fix them that's why it is taking so long.

Where have you seen the 5.1 ftf for Z1?
guys
you can easily fix memory management problem
use kernel adiutor and go to Low Memory Manager Killer and change numbers to lower Values.

Changing LMK is not enough unfortunately. That's not a matter of LMK.
