Old X - Droid X General

I have an old DROID X and want to do something with it. I just want to use it as a media device. Like gaming and music. I did a reset on it when I upgraded a few years ago. I tried turning it on and it wants me to run start up on it. I just want to use it as a wifi device. What should I do?

Nevermimd. Got it to work.
Sent from my SCH-I545

good idea! I have my old droid x but it sits in a drawer xD

Mine's sitting in a drawer because it won't charge when it's off. The battery dies and then won't turn back on. I have to charge the damn thing with it on to keep it alive. It's too much of a hassle for a device I want to use infrequently.

Sad to say man just sell the piece of clap lol you might get 50 dollars out of it.

Go over to rootzwiki and dubbsy made two wifi only ROMs. Ones AOKP and the other based off LiquidSmooth (v1.61 by roeblatt3 if im not mistaken...)

A media center is not a bad idea. The droid x has an hdmi and the dock recharges too, You could use it as a chromcast!

5 days yeah, im assuming you mean 5 days on standby meaning you barely if ever used it in that time because it is practically impossible otherwise to get that amount of battery for 5 days.
One man post on some forum. 7 days

Plug sockets arnt hard to find!
with an intelligent use of the power-off button your battery may last some weeks...

Bang on man! think my worst case I have burned through a whole battery in a 4-5hours (chroot vnc gps etc) you know what though, it's not an iphone carry a spare!!! have a charger, have a battery pack charger, have a car charger!
the slightly more worrying factor for me is the power draw of some apps being greater than the draw on car charge.
I-on road for example probably the only truely useful AR app but V. battery intensive (gps and camera on full time go figure)
Lol - it doesnt matter how many days you got, i bet it was still only 3-4hrs screen on time like everyone else.

Yeah carry a spare battery and don't worry about it, no point on spend $600 on a phone only to use it like a $50 one.
I've burned through a fully charged battery in an hour and half...

Camping and battery life

Hello all. I am going camping for 5 days and I was wondering how I can get the best battery life out of my phone on 1 charge. (I won't have any electricity for 5 days)
I am currently using cnote's port of ice cold sandwich Rossi edition. I will be only using my phone for playing music and taking pictures. The phone will be in airplane mode for 5 days.
My question is if its good to idle it for 5 days in airplane mode or shut it down if it won't be used for more than 5 hours? Does it require more power when booting or does it consume less battery power when idling?
Thanks in advance.

The Indian's recommendation is good.
I would shut it off at night. Airplane mode will save LOTS of juice, but nothing saves power like being off for hours. Lol.
You might also consider one of those portable external chargers. They're pretty cheap.

They have campsites with wi-fi? Daaaamn. I've got to find one of those.
Sorry for being brief, if you only need it for 5 hours of just listening to music and reading ebooks, any rom other than sense 4 and stock will serve you well. Underclock so CPU max is 700ish (thats all you need) and turn it off completely if you aren't using it. I also recommend buying an external battery from amazon. Anker makes nice big ones of like $20

I believe he meant there will periods of, maybe, 5 hours where he won't be using it and he wanted to know if it would be better to leave it on for those periods or turn it off.
Thank you very much for the feedback.

I agree with external charger, will definitely come in handy.
ROM wise, any of them should be good, but its better to stay off ICS+.
GB is guaranteed stable for the Glacier, best battery life too.

Thank God sckboy and I aren't the only one's around here who think ICS has the best battery life.
GB ftw.
Not that I'm not rocking JB right now, because I totally am. However, when I need stability, full functionality and battery life out that wazoo... Gingerbread.
Hey, i told him to use cm7 too. But I haven't had a crash on cm10 port yet

My play music has been crashing and now I am upset that I can't use it at all. That was my main source of music. I can't even load it. Force closes as soon as I start it. I need to use the offline mode to save songs for camping.
I cleared cache. Set permissions and re flashed the newest gapp as well. Still crashing. Can't even load play music.
Oh well. Airdroiding songs to SD now.
I should flash cm 7 honestly but doesn't it take a couple of days for a new rom to normalize? I leave tomorrow and icecoldRossi is amazing battery life with frosted cherry now.
Technology ugh....

Oh I also know that play music only allows a certain amount of devices authorized. I have my desktop, laptop, nexus one and my touch. That's one less than the required amount.

If you feel like your battery life with that is well enough, go for it then; just because everyone says cm7 will get you the best battery life, doesn't mean your phone will agree. Oh and the play music thing is an app problem.

Pretty much anything non-sense by TDJ. I swear everything I've gotten at least 3 days with use on every one of his roms/kernels.
I've even gotten 2 days on DARKSIDE sense. But it's always a good idea to keep an external charger if you're going to be gone for a while. Whenever I go on a business trip, even though I know that there will be available outlets, I always keep an external charger in case anything happens. Plus, it's always nice to not have to stick around a wall when you're charging your phone and have to use it at the same time.

Battery Life is Horrible on Airplane Mode

I have an old Droid 2 that doesn't function as a phone that I only use in Airplane mode. I occasionally turn on WiFi to download an app or to sync something.
It's running MIUI.
A strange thing that I keep running into is that it wants to activate on bootup, but I can't activate (not an active device) or skip it.
The battery usage graph deisplays that "Phone Calls" are taking 70%+ on the battery.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Screenshot is attached.
it's been awhile since I've used miui
but doesn't look like phone is in airplane mode
i think you can disable network data in settings
may even try freezing phone app
not sure what that will do
make sure you have a nandroid

I've tried both, freezing the app only broke a bunch of other things. The disabling of network data also didn't affect it.
I'm pretty sure it's the activation at the beginning that I can't skip.

I don't think so
you could try another rom, I like liquid or cm7
If you head over to Rootzwiki there's a zip you can flash that will remove the phone apk and that should solve your problems.

This phone is too good at it makes me bored....

So I sit here bored on a Thursday night and think to myself 'oh I'll just flash a ROM on my moto x' then I realize that if I flash a ROM I will actually lose features that I like instead of gain them. I used to spend a few hours a week flashing Roms but now I don't want to. So what are all the other flash-a-holics doing with their free time now?

Not having to flash ROMs is the reason I got the Moto X.
get root, install xposed installer, install motoxposed and other great modules, enjoy the near stock experience with all the benefits of a good rom.
Buy a Nexus 5 to flash on those nights! I may have retired my GNex but its still got some development life yet!

no need to flash any custom rom at least while when they port all unique features.
Haha that's my goal this weekend. To try getting a 4.4 ROM to work on the sprint version. Last night I spent the night installing Ubuntu and everything I need to start building roms

I will say that the Moto X is such a clean stable phone in which I don't have to require much change. The changes I want are simple and easily handled by using the XPosed Installer. This phone has truly cured my need to tweak and mod. It gets great battery life without the need for custom kernels or governors.
I do still have a Nexus 7 (2013) which I am using to enjoy KitKat on, but now I never have to worry about my phone crashing, or bugging out.

It is refreshing, not having to constantly tinker with my phone. I basically run my business from my phone... Can't count how many times a accidentally lost texts, photos, app data etc... Because I was flashing in a hurry or because of a bad nandroid backup. Those days are gone... And I don't miss it.

Battery problems and a cracky speaker

Hey everyone!
I'm new to the moto x and I am not getting the battery life of some of you. I am currently at 46℅ battery with only 7 hours use. I have Bluetooth on and Wi-Fi. My Bluetooth is for my pebble and I have been using Pandora and some internet but according to reports I shouldn't be blowing through battery this quick. Also my phone speaker is fairly cracky when making a call not the speaker around back but the front one I can still hear people but when it's ringing it sounds awful

Do you have any stats on screen-on time? Because if your screen is on for 5 of those 7 hours, that could be doing it.
If you don't have those stats, I think Better Battery Stats will get those for you. Also, if you're already sending it in, then you might be able to request a new battery anyways.
This is only my second day using the moto x and coming from an HTC One and a One X before it which both had what I thought was great battery life, I can definitely say that the screen on time I got today is absolutely unheard of! And this is while seeing the phone up, installing mods and apps, etc.
