n00b here to XDA and Android, 1st post, here we go..
Currently running international GN3, ROOTED omegadroid ROM with a stock kernel and trying to run linux on android(complete linux installer).
failing miserably and researched my list of probable faults back to no loop device support for my kernel.
My question(s) as the title so simply puts it is does the GN3 stock kernel have loop device support, if not is this something i could change myself? For my information how could i check?
Does anyone know of a kernel (for SM-N9005) that has this support? (I looked to no success[maybe im retarded])
If no then are there any ways in which i could help in the development of this feature for the kernel.
Also post if you have had any success with running linux ontop of android.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers guys!
I've spent hours trying to find a solution to this and as far as I know the stock kernel does not. And I have yet to find a custom kernel that does either. I would graciously donate some money to a dev that could build one
SM-N9005 stock rooted 4.4.2
Leankernel on jb worked fine for chrooted linux for me.

Hey guys and hey devs,
i wanna ask you something.
My android version is 4.2.2 with stock rom and franco.kernel.
I want to use my iCon 225 Surfstick with my Nexus 7 Tablet. All i need are 2 modules. The hso and the ppp_async module. Unfortunately franco.kernel does not have those modules. And the developer has not responded to my request. So i tried to compile it myself with cygwin. I had no success and a few errors.
Can anyone give me a kernel with these modules?
Before i had my galaxy Ace for tethering and so on but unfortunately it is gone diving
Sorry for my bad english
Thx in advance,
nwd
This is a rather new kernel, you could ask the dev if they're included/supported?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2373410
Yeah i could try
ppp_async is built-in with my kernel. hso will be enabled in next build. Expect it sometime tomorrow or the day after.
Do you want them as modules or built-in with the kernel?
It's month now when SGS6E+ is out in the wild and we don't have many devs in the comunity so far... I greately appreciate the only custom kernel we have, but what about just rooting, and keeping stock at the same time? Pure stock and root.
I still can't find any solution for such a basic need: a stock rooted kernel. You can say: hey there is one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s6-edge-plus/development/auto-rooting-stock-kernels-s6-edge-plus-t3194607/
..but when I went thru the comments... so many issues... Why?
Truely speaking, i tried to compile my own kernel, but... I'm a noob and only achieved to set up the environment: ubuntu... all the needed packages... but then I noticed there were no newest sources for G928F on samsung site....G928FXXU1AOH4. Even if they were available, I would rather fail building it
Any ideas?
Hi guys
i've been googling and searching through xda for based-on-stock 4.2.2 and 4.3 kernels for the past couple of days, but the links are all down.. i don't want KK or LP because i don't like them, plus text reflow doesn't work in those anymore.. would someone please help in providing a link to stable JB kernels.. such as Adam kernel for example...
thank you
What version of Android is currently on the device?
I'm running omega v14.1 which is based on Android 4.2.2
but I also downloaded omega v17 which is based on 4.3
so having kernels for both would be nice
Ok, so you never upgraded the stock ROM from the originals? If the links are down you're going to have to hunt, as I know you don't want to download a stock ROM just to get the kernel.
Thing is.. I want to stay on jelly bean. I don't want the stock kernel. I wants a tweaked kernel based on the stock kernel with all the extra governors and features.. like Adam kernel by wanam. But the problem is these are a bit old and all the links are dead. Even wanam's site is down (no idea why).
So I really would appreciate it if someone who still has copies of these would share them here
thanks again
I have an Acer A500 running Android 4.0.3 (Kernel 2.6.39.4+, Image Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_EMEA_DE, Build Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_EMEA_DE).
It feels sort of sluggish all the time and sometimes Apps completely crash... So I was wondering if I should run a custom ROM or downgrade to HoneyComb or whatever
So what I am asking is:
what ROM is currently the most stable/fast? (official and unofficial ROMs)
can I use a different kernel and, if so, should I and which one?
what exactly is a bootloader and do I need a custom one?
how would I go about flashing a new ROM? (official or unofficial)
I tried searching this forum (and tegraowners.com) and didn't really find answers to my questions or a guide on how to do this. The only thing I really found is that the OmniROM 4.4.4 has more features that 5.1.1 or CM12.1, so I'm guessing its the most stable one...
Any help is appreciated
I have looked thru the OP5 section of the forum, and cannot find a custom kernel for Q. The reason I need one is because I replaced my screen, and since that time, the only way that it will wake up properly is to flash a custom kernel on top of whatever rom I happen to be using. I've been using the Affinity kernel, but there is not a Q version of that yet.
So, anyone know of a custom kernel I can use with Android 10? TIA!
Yes, there is. Weeb Kernel: XDA Thread.
Outstanding, thank you! I will give it a try and see if it works for my purposes in Q.
