Locked tight.....check ur build number... says MF3 so the only way to load any roms is to root and use safestrap.... plenty of reading here and in development thread on this. I highly suggest you read and read some more before you try it.

You have a locked bootloader. Do not try any type of recovery or you will be looking for a whole bunch of help later...
good luck sir.

First let me say I'm not a noob.. I'm a developer but don't really deal with rooting, etc. So please don't bash...
I tried searching for answers to this question, but couldn't find an exact one..
I have the AT&T S4 with the MF3 OTA update. I want to try and install a custom rom, but in reading the hot to's, it says not to attempt to do it with the mf3 update since it's boot locked. Can I re-install a stock S4 firmware using odin and then, after a stock firmware is installed, then install twrp with a custom rom?
Thanks!

Ha.. Well, that's an exact answer
There is a method in the works on the VZW forums that will allow custom ROMs on locked bootloaders. We are hoping to get it ported over the our side. Things are looking very promising. This method, known as a safestrap, will also allow multiple ROMs at once. Up to 4 slots. It keeps your stock ROM safe so if you have a bad flash, you can still boot right back and have a functional phone. You are only limited by how much space you have on your internal SD.

Unless there is a theme style then there isn't a way.
Also you should have posted this here to get an answer to your query.
Your topic heading makes it seem like it's a how-to xD you might wanna be a bit more careful with the headings...
Also, I'm 99.99% sure you cannot install CM without rooting. Well, you might be able to just flash recovery and flash CM on it, but I won't advise something I haven't done

rooting before flashing a custom rom is useless, flashing recovery and then flashing a custom rom is how it should be done.. but ppl have just made rooting one of the steps, and now new users think rooting is actually necessary to flash a custom rom..
root Note 3 after accepting stock ROM update to 5.0

I've almost given up on successfully rooting and installing custom ROM on my Galaxy Note3 (N900V) It seemed that there were roadblocks at every method that I thought would work with my Verizon Note 3. The above quote suggest (to me) that rooting is no longer necessary but that it can be done simply by flashing a recovery (CWM or TWRP??) and then flashing the custom ROM.
Instructions usually assume a Windows computer to flash via usb cable. I'm running Linux so where can a find a step by step guide that will let me install Cyanogenmod or some other custom ROM that will let me debloat, and perhaps improve function on my Note 3 which I plan to be keeping for the foreseeable future.

Suggest you ask in the forum for your model .

Doesn't the Verizon version of the Note 3 have a locked bootloader that must be unlocked before flashing TWRP or a non-TW based ROM? Heimdall can flash TWRP in Linux: http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/

yes its locked .
OMG!!!! After tons of reading for a way to check if my Bootloader is locked. I have gotten no result except to use safstrap for bootloader stuff or what not. I just want a straight answer to my question/s. A post should also be sticky about this.
My Phone BASEBAND is I337UCUAMF3
1.How do I know if my bootloader is unlocked or locked. When I go into download mode, will it say like bootloader=locked/unlocked or so.
2.If its locked. How do i unlock it. Secure or non secure. Just wanna install CWM/TWRP Recovery with updates straight from there site without a need for modification like safestrap. Wanna install custom roms A.S.A.P

Any AT&T I337 that's MF3, MK2, or NB1 has a locked bootloader so don't bother checking. So far there is no exploit, Devs are working on it and when they crack it it will be all over the S4 threads. Safe strap is the only way to run custom roms. Don't try to flash a custom recovery.

Thanks a lot for your speedy reply. So upgrading my Baseband to something else wont change the bootloader locked? I am also guessing every AT&T S4 comes bootloader locked then... In other words, would it be best i get my i9500 back since i don't have to worry about bootloader locked and brick and all that stuff that's currently making my i337 useless.
Yes every AT&T is locked, get your i9500 back.

Thanks a million. Now that was easy and straight forward. Someone should create a sticky thread of this topic with it close so no replies. Damn. Information was so hard to get but many thanks to you. It was a breeze.

Well I don't know the active and can only go by what I know of the i337. You're probably on ml3 firmware. The bootloader is probably locked and you can't unlock it. So safestrap is your only option. You'll be able to flash tw based roms only. There may be debloated roms available but you'll have to find those. Try googling i537 roms xda

Hi all, I am fairly new to this whole rooting process for android devices, since i have just recently purchased a galaxy s4 from at&t. Just a few days ago, i've decided to root my device, and after hours of researching i came across geohot's towelroot program and successfully rooted my GS4!. Now i want to install a custom rom, and i would like to know what kind of custom recovery can i use? and am i able to install the cyanogenmod 11? I have downloaded the cyanogenmod installer and it says my device is not supported, but i read on their wiki that i can install it manually but i don't know if my current build is supported by Clockworkmod, or even TWRP for that matter. I havn't flashed any roms by the way and i don't plan on doing so until i am almost certain that i can flash it without bricking.
I am running kitkat 4.4.2 Samsung SGH-I337, my baseband/build number is I337UCUFNC1
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!
We have a locked bootloader. So, stock kernel and recovery cannot be replaced. The only recovery we have is safestrap.

Ahh that sucks thanks for the info. Hopefully they will find a way to unlock it in the future so I can install the cyanogenmod.
