Help. Android 4.4 meltdown - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone help me please. I've installed AOSP 4.4 on my Nexus 4 and now nothing works, all processes and apps crash when i open them. Clockwork recovery will not let me flash another rom either, I tried flashing cyanogen mod and MIUI with no luck, just a constant boot loop. Any help would be amazing. Thanks in advance. Matt

Download and flash the latest TWRP, then wipe everything includinf data, then flash again.
Or just go back to stock factory image.

My phone is fully charged, I can boot into recovery, but when I try reflashing the AOSP rom all the data from the previous install such as wifi passwords and a download for cyanogen mod are still in the notification bar. I've tried wiping cache and dalvik cache to no avail. I always flash roms with ease this is the first problem ive ever encountered

sorry
Right sorry to waste your time, just managed to get into settings app. I did a factory reset on the 4.4 rom now everything is working. Cheers for all your fast replys, much appreciated

[Q] CM10.1.2 Bootloop

I was having a ton of problems with my Nexus 4, like i mean a TON
so I decided to just fix it and factory reset my phone. I rooted it with the nexus 4 tool kit and flashed TWRP. I found the CM10.1.2 zip and the 4.2.2 GAPPS. Flashed the ROM, then the GAPPS, then cleared both caches and Rebooted my phone. It is stuck at the spinning CM circle boot logo forever (I even left it on all night). I tried flashing CM10.1.0 with the 4.2.2 GAPPs same process and still in a boot loop. WTH is going on. I'm so frustrated. My phone was wiped clean and the only app I have is a file explorer besides the preinstalled Google apps.
Help.
I made a backup of when I freshly rooted my phone so I don't have to keep rooting when I enter recovery to get away from the boot loop
Before you flash the ROM did you do factory reset? Go into twrp do a factory reset then flash ROM and gapps then reboot it shouldn't take more then 5 mins for it to boot

I answered your post. The point of XDA is to share development work and learn how it works but if you're using a toolkit and not reading you'll never learn that's why you've had "a ton of problems" and don't know how to fix it

Sorry I never saw your reply. Thanks for replying. I did a factory reset from the settings menu NOT from within TWRP. And the toolkit is not to blame because I've used it plenty of times before and has not caused any problems. All it does is root my phone.
Umm you need to wipe within twrp before you flash. You're bootlooping because you only did a factory reset which only deletes cache and stuff. Wipe from within twrp and then flash

I wiped from within TWRP, rebooted and then my attenas were not working again. I could at least see the networks in my area but I could never connect on WiFi- it kept saying "Authenticating". It also said "No Service" for my 3G.
I booted back into TWRP and went into the advanced options for wiping and selected everything besides some "usb" thing and I think I deleted my OS -__- . I'm an idiot I should really not do what I don't know. I'm just going to flash stock ROM (4.2.2) with the Nexus 4 Tool Kit and see if things improve.
Thanks for your help.
In twrp if you're flashing a different always do the advanced wipe in order to clear the previous rom. Doing the basic wipe in twrp has the same effect of factory reset from earlier

4.3 cm-10.2

Has anyone tried the 4.3 cm10.2 ROMs found over here (http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/cm-10.2/)? I was going to give it a go last night but for some reason my device got stuck on the "warning your boot loader is unlocked" screen and had to use Matt's utility to give it life... I may give it a try tonight when I'm not expecting any calls...

Yeah, I'm running the latest version of it now. I had the same problem. What worked for me was the following:
1. Wipe everything - system, data and both types of cache.
2. Install CM 10.2 and NOTHING else. Boot the ROM. It should go through now.
3. Once you get to the main screen, reboot into recovery.
4. Install the 4.3 GAPPS version. Reboot, get to the main screen and reboot into recovery.
5. Now flash the 4.3 version of Supersu for CM 10.2
6. Boot one last time into CM 10.2
All the links for everything you need can be found with a Google search. Later I may edit this post to include those links.

Thank you kindly for the reply... I got it booting finally but couldn't get su permission on TiB and what not... I didn't know about needing the 4.3 su ...I'll flash that now... again thank you kindly

TWRP isn't supported either from what I understand. You need to run CWM.
Any time I install 4.3, it won't reboot. It starts up initially, but I can't get it to get past the Motorola logo upon second boot.
I have tried the normal install method and this method.
Then recovery doesn't see the /data folder so something is wrong with the 4.3 install I presume.
Does it change the location of data?
Yeah I Tried It But It Had No Sound So I Changed Over To 4.2.2 AOKP.

I use TWRP, works ok. Got sound, data, everything working fine. Battery life sucks, but no surprise there.
My 2c
I'm running it right now. I must have missed the part about flashing SuperSu, because I can't do anything as root. I had trouble the first time I flashed with the phone bootlooping, but I flashed again and that fixed it. Battery life is somewhat poor, but I just found the performance page today (Icon was different, silly me!) so we'll see how it goes with a different governor. I've been having issues with Navigation and Bluetooth audio on anything except stock. Bluetooth audio locks the phone and I have to soft-reset it. Navigation crashes if you try to multi-task while using it.

Phone stuck booting - panicking

Hey guys, so I tried to install this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497558 on my phone and it seemed to install and run fine until I rebooted it. Now it's stuck booting on a black screen. My phone is running 4.2 with Cyanogenmod 10.2. I'm a bit new at this and I would really appreciate any help.
Thanks!
Boot into recovery, do a full wipe and reflash the ROM and gapps.

Also is there a way to pull files from my phone to my pc in this state? Thanks again. Hope someone can help soon- this is stressing me out.

Thank you so much for the reply. I will do this. But before I do that, is there any way to pull files from my phone in recovery mode? I have certain files that are very important to me and can't exactly be replaced. Thanks!

[Q] Nexus 4 is being really weird

So I've decided to switch to a more stable version of PAC, and when I flashed it on top of the latest nightly, things got really weird. So I decided to just reboot, wipe, and flash again. This time when I flashed it, it would go through setup but a dialog box would insistently pop up saying "system.android.phone has stopped". So I decide it must be a problem with PAC, so I go back, wipe, and flash Purity. This time I can't even get a setup wizard because a dialog box says that the setup wizard has stopped. What should I do? Should I just format everything and go from there? Thanks!
Yeah, that would be your best bet. Flash the factory image and start fresh.

How would I get a factory image onto the device though? My computer recognizes the phone, but I can't get into USB debugging mode.
Are you wiping the system when you do your wipes?
I feel like I should make a poop joke....

Hm, I don't know then. Are you flashing anything else while/after flashing the ROM? You can flash a Gapps package after flashing the ROM before booting, but you really shouldn't flash anything else until you boot, load everything, then reboot.
Okay, so you're going to have to go into fastboot and plug your device in and navigate to your platform-tools folder in CMD and try
fastboot devices
to see if it recognizes your device. If it does than you can follow the instructions around here on XDA to flash the factory image onto the device. I think all you have you have to do is click on "flashall.bat" or something like that and it will flash the entire stock image to your device.

So I tried flashing Purity again and wiping system, without flashing Gapps and it worked. But when I flashed gapps, this constant dialog box saying setup wizard has stopped came up. What should I do? Just start from a clean slate?

Nexus 4 Stuck on boot animation (with multiple type of rom)

Good evening guys, i have my nexus 4 dead.....
I had a lollipop official factory image installed on my n4... After some week of usage (with 0 problems) I drained my battery to 0 and since then, i had the annoyng bootloop on lollipop dots on booting.
What i did:
Restored to factory and deleted cache using the recovery system, no results
Installed TWRP, cleaned the cache and all the other stuff, no results
Installed CWM, cleaned the cache and all the other stuff, no result
Installed a fresh and new factory image, no results, sometimes the device is stuck on the dots, somethimes download the app and it locks on "Android starting app"
Rooted, then installed cyanogen 12, same, sometimes the device is stuck on the blue cyanogen logo, somethimes download the app and it locks on "Android starting app"
So now, what i can try???
It can be an hardware problem?? But what kind of hw problems?
Thanks in advance for the possible solution,
Petar
No one has every kind of tips or trick for me?

I will try this evening with the 4.4 but i'm very dubious on the results.... I will let you know
I just need to wipe the Cyanogen mod, then flash the factory over it, right?
Just reboot your phone in bootloader, connect it to pc and run the flash-all.bat and let it do its thing..
Flashed the 4.4.4 factory image ... Same issue, system won't boot.
It's locked on the annoying flying dots....
What can i try?????

Nothing change.... Now the phone is stuck on the animation, it never goes on the "upgrading android app" screen
Nobody has some kind of suggestion for my problem??
How long did it take to flash? It might be possible fastboot isn't installing the ROM properly...
