Restoring sprint gs4 Bloatware help - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

So, long story short I rooted my sprint gs4 mja and killed some bloatware. Later my phone started overheating and having connection issues. I looked online and people said the remedy to the heat issue was to factory reset so i did. To my horror the problem still existed so I did some research and found out certain bloatware shouldn't be removed because it can cause these symptoms.
So anyway to get those apps back or re-install mja and mf9?
Also I have another small concern I would like an answer for which I cant find.
when I rooted and factory rested my gs4 I tried to install Cyanogenmod on it by using apply update from external storage in stock recovery all I got was errors and it booted me back into recovery. I then booted and stock rom came up.
After this I noticed I had some glitches in stock rom, could these glitchs have come from me trying to install CM from recovery?

Maybe odin back to stock mf9, take mja ota and reroot?

You don't install custom roms or recoveries with the stock recovery, for ghat you have to be rooted first, then install custom recovery, search for twrp 2.5.0.2. Tar file and flash with odin, then you will be able to flash things.

That is exactly why I always wait a little before upgrading, until everything gets sorted out. Reminds me of the days qhen I had my e4gt and the whole ICS emmc brick bug

So is it possible for me to flash custom recovery with Odin on mja?

Yes you can, first root the phone with cf autoroot and then install a custom recovery. Make sure you know what you are doing because MJA is an all new animal. If you mess up you can't just odin MJA back to the phone since we don't have a full tar file of MJA. This means even a soft brick of your phones is a real hassle to recover from. Also, people have reported bootloops and other problems trying to restore backups with the new MJA. Once you have applied the MJA update, the bootloader will prevent you from downgrading the firmware so you can't odin MF9 or older firmware and you can't reapply the update since the update will stop once it sees the MJA bootloader is already installed. Tread carefully, until we have a full tar of MJA that you can use to return to stock after a screw up or brick.

Return to 4.3 full stock.

I recently flashed the 4.3 update and immediately rooted and flashed twrp. I then decided to go full stock. I thought I could just Odin back to mf9 and flash the update again. This is not the case. I got back to 4.2.2. But it was not mf9. The software version stayed at mja. The update zip would not install anymore. Odin was failing with errors. My nandroid of 4.3 would not take. Just bootlooped. I thought I was screwed until someone pointed me to a nandroid of boot and system that could be flashed with philz recovery. So I'm back to 4.3. What I'm looking to do is get this to pure stock 4.3. Stock recovery and all. I'll wory about the Knox flags later. Is there anyway this can be done yet?

Read through this thread and follow the directions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506562 It will do what you need.
I did use this thread and got back to 4.3 with philz recovery. What I'd really like to do is get completely stock, recovery and all. Gonna have to wait for a 4.3 .tar for an Odin flash. Or maybe someone can figure a way to flash stock recovery back and I can factory restore. This Knox security stuff is for the birds!
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
I used the MF9 stock recovery after going to MJA in order to do a factory restore. Then I used it again to manually force the update with the cce8d8a155a0602c83356e00311a1695e9a9383f.USER_L720_SPT_MF9_CSB_user_RP_to_MJA_CSB_user_RP_Update_FWD.zip file.
Have you tried just doing an RTN via the phone dialer? Enter ##786# on phone keyboard, Select "reset", Enter MSL.
Both of those methods will wipe everything, of course, so backup using Helium, etc.

[Q] Soft Bricked?

Hey guys, first post, sorry it had to be a lame one asking for help!
I've been rooting my GS4 I9505 repeatedly over the last year or so and installing new roms and sometimes reverting back to the stock rom when I got bored. I've had no problems so far.
Today I tried to flash a new rom, which failed to install properly. I can now no longer boot into recovery, I can only boot into download mode but I can't flash anything with Odin because it gives me a fail message when I try.
I've done a fairly exhaustive search of the forums in case someone has answered this question before and they have. They suggested flashing the PIT file along with the stock rom. I tried that and Odin still gives me a fail message. I can't find any other solutions online and was wondering if someone here could help.
Thanks!
Hi if you've been rooting for over a year surely you have custom recovery like philz or cwm?
Why not just download pre rooted custom and forget about using Odin?
Is there actually a reason you want to flash a rom via Odin.
OK here's some tips why it's not working
1 you have new bootloader the one with Knox and you are trying to flash a pre Knox rom like 4.2.2.
2 the rom is for a different country.
MY short time with sg4 has educated me never ever ever touch pit files unless you know exactly what you are doing (noobs stay way) hard perminant brick!

Sounds like you've corrupted your recovery.
If I were in this position I would flash the .Tar version of PhilZ recovery via Odin to get recovery back.
then boot to recovery and flash a custom ROM.
I have the same problem can anyone help ???

[Q] So many issues... (Kies, Recovery, Firmware)

Hello.First post here.
I currently have been using CM11 for a few months now but miss some features on stock. (multiwindow, air view) so I installed Sacs ROM.
Everything was working great today except a known problem is wifi will not work due to radio opbstructions (i believe). So i attempted to change the baseband to MF9.
At first, Odin started then immidately it failed. The error read 'Fused 4 Binary 1'
So i assumed it was a connection error. I loaded back into download mode and tried again. Failed.
At this point i thought screw it, and took the battery out. tried to reboot and stuck at the soft brick "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
I installed Kies. Plugged in my phone. Drivers installed but Kies will not connect. Try to do 'Firmware Upgrade and Initialization'
However Kies will NOT accpet my S/N number. i tried everything. writing it all out or with a space every 3 numbers or with 'DEC' at the front. nothing worked.
I even called sprint to double check S/N (ESN/DEC)
so basically I'm soft bricked and Kies is screwing me over. Any ideas?

Yes but it takes all but about 30 seconds to root again
You could go straight to sacs after rooting.

If you flash a full stock tar you won't have to flash radio.
Do a search please for the tar.

i searched around and eventually found a working .md5 file. its apparently is stock. got my phone to start booting but it got stuck at the yellow sprint screen. im going to try to boot into safe mode. any ideas how to access my recovery file? i have one form CWM and one from Ti Backup
which tar did you flash through Odin? MF9, MK2 or NAE?
IF you were on MF9 and flashed the full MF9 tar you can try and flash again. Just power off phone completely, go to download mode, attach and run Odin. (same for MK2 or NAE) BUT if you tried flashing MJA/MK2 or NAE you cannot go back to MF9. Things you should have read about already.
If it hangs on boot after flashing, power off completely, boot to stock recovery and do a factory reset and then let it restart first reboot can take 5 to 10 earth minutes.
You can then root via CF-Autoroot or Saferoot, install goomanager to grab a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) OR Odin said recoveries (Philz, TWRP etc.)

I think i fixed it.
Problems resolved.
The issue was i had Sacs v4 which didnt support wifi and i read that it needed MF9 firmware.
i had a lapse in judgement and without thinking tried to go back from MJA. didnt catch it until now.
I eventually found the correct stock file. eventually got into the phone. rerooted and in the process of install the proper sacs ROM (v5.6)
this was a simple error that i shouldve caught thanks guys!
hopefully this ROM will work with wifi...
BTW, all my backups were wiped
Your backups weren't on your external sd? Ooo, that sucks. Glad you got it.

i337 root help

I just picked up an S4 SGH-i337. It is running 4.3.
I tried rooting it with the Lokifyed tool. It installed Superuser, but I don't think it rooted the phone because I could not install SuperSU and it could not install CWM either.
After that did not work, I tried using Odin with Chainfire auto-root, but it kept on failing.
I tried using Odin to put the stock firmware unroot file and failed too.
Sometimes it will shut off when I plug it in.
Any ideas on getting my phone to work?
Here is an update.
I got it rooted successfully. I used Lokifyed 3-way tool to install TWRP, now the phone only boots into download mode. It will not boot into recovery nor normal mode.
Your phone has a locked bootloader. So, you cannot install custom recovery.

The ROM that you are flashing should match the base version on your phone.
If you havent yet used Deadly Venom Kitkat Magic tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2680868), you should be flashing a ROM that is based on Android 4.3 and NOT Android 4.4.2.

You cannot flash a custom recovery on the phones with the locked bootloader (from MF3 onwards). The phone will still work but you will not be able to get to recovery mode.
Incorrect, you flash safe strap then there is another file posted by shabbypenguin
I'll get you the links to the forums that have everything one I get home, I'm running errands with my dad right now.
by the way I successfully Flashed deadly venom, but what you had to do is flash the venom Rom and Thenusing the deadly venoms magic tool, also flash the MDL zip file and lastly I had to flash 3 MDL files using Odin. So I flashed a 4.4.2 Rom on 4.3 mk2 and was still able to get to the custom recovery.
I tried to flash shostock and it doesn't load also the first time I flashed it, I flashed it in the stock Rom profile instead of the other profiles, It got stuck in an infinite boot loop going from SS to the stock recovery then back to SS
Give me a few hours and I'll figure out how to flash shostock after I help you fix your phones stuck booting process, I'm running errands with my dad but I should be home soon.

if your phone isnt working at all meaning you cant get it to fully boot but it still turns on and tries to boot, then you may have to Odin back to mk2. or whatever you had before.
if you want to go ahead and flash back to mk2 or mf3 stock heres some instructions.
you need Odin on your computer. you can find it by googleing it or it is in deadly venoms magic tool

all you need from the magic tool is odin and the configuration file which are right next to each other.
i suggest using peazip to extract rar files btw...
peazip.sourceforge.net/peazip-portable.html
then you can find the stock files here
mf3, (4.2.2 the tar file download)
mk2 (4.3)
on the 4.3 thread, at the end of post 2 there is actually a dowload for odin availible.
now just flash it back. P.s. this WILL wipe your phone completely, if you dont have titanium backup, i strongly suggest getting it from the app store afterwards

I believe I flashed shostock into the stock profile.
How long is deadly venom supposed to take? It seems to just get stuck at SBL2 and does not go any further.
I'm not worried about anything on the phone, I would rather go back to stock and start all over.

Please do a lot more reading as your above incorrect statement will cause problems for anybody trying to install any recovery other than SafeStrap for MK2 based firmwares. If other methods worked for MK2 then there would be a thread for it. There isn't, cause nothing works as a custom recovery for MK2 except Safestrap. Reading saves phones!

Odin keeps failing whenever I try to flash anything on it. Do you have an exact link to the file I need?

do you have usb debugging enabled?

The typical suspect in this case is either the USB port or the cable. It works best when the stock cable is used.

I got it working now with a new cable. Thanks for all the help! I'm on Safestrap now, how would I be able to get shostock-i on my phone? Or do I change to NB1? If so, how would I do that?
Thanks for helping me out, I'm a noob at this. I came from an S2 and it was simpler.

After flashing CWM, are you able to boot into recovery? If so, please do confirm you have a I337 and not I337M phone. If you have I337 and you are able to boot into CWM recovery, you should start a new thread. Because, no one here at XDA has succeeded in doing this.
What has usb debugging got to do with Odin? When flashing using Odin, the phone is in download mode.

Read the magic tool thread on how to replace the updater-script.

Changed recoveries, unauthorized software..

Hey all,
Tried to update the twrp that was on a device that I just got.
Update went fine, reboot into new recovery.. Unauthorized software message..
Does this mean Odin back to MDL stock, re-root and such?
Thanks in advance.

You need to flash Loki. . . if you flash a stock (rooted) ROM, you will boot to ROM, then use triangle away app to get rid of the padlock on boot screen. Just remember to flash the Loki zip if you're flashing a ROM that isn't specifically for the jflteatt

If you can't get it to bottom after flashing Loki, you'll need to Odin back to stock, reroot and whatnot.

The guy above is right. It's loki that you have to flash in recovery. But that issue is because of the the kernel. Loki is a att kernel patch.
So anytime you flash a new rom or kernel by itself just flash the loki doki zip and reboot and all will be well

So,
I found out that trying to flash philz via Odin would fail, almost immediately; but then the rom would boot..
I was able to loki_run recovery recovery.img from my still working rom.. Then get into the flashed recovery..
Cycle, rinse, repeat a dozen times or so while I was figuring it out.. Before I figured out what was getting me back in..
