I have downloaded the MJ6 firmware for SM-N9005 which includes MJ4 modem.
I extracted modem.bin and put it in a .tar file to flash with Odin, as I have the DjeMBey MJ6 rom but old baseband.
It flashes successfully but my phone shows MI6 baseband still The problem is because "Auto Reboot" is ticked.
The solution to successfully flash MJ4 baseband is as follows:
1) Flash the modem.bin inside a .tar file in Odin under CP (or Phone). UNTICK THE "Auto Reboot" OPTION
2) WAIT UNTIL IT SAYS PASSED
3) Keep phone on, unplug phone, close Odin, plug into different USB port and open Odin again
4) Flash modem.bin inside .tar file again as in step 1
5) WAIT UNTIL IT SAYS PASSED
6) Keep phone on, unplug phone, close Odin, plug into different USB port and open Odin again
7) Flash stock NON-HLOS.bin file from MJ6 firmware in Odin
8) WAIT UNTIL IT SAYS PASSED
9) Take out battery
10) Reinsert battery
11) Profit
I hope this helps some people

Thanks, and modified my original post.
I made a N9005-2modemsMJ4-RomMJ6.tar.md5 whit both modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin.
(2modems means two files to one modem. For me must be flashed always together).
Flashed whit MobileOdin, worked very well. (on MO Chainfire call that modem and modem #2).
PS: By Odin3 I think must be also the same, both 2 files inside the .tar.md5
Hi @danieljamie
Your steps 1) to 11) on OP are horrible, I don't like same work. Sorry.

Hello
I'm trying to flash the jpu modem on stock jpy since I had good results with it. I don't really know where to get it correctly. I've found a jpu modem in the doc rom thread, but it's some zip file, i took the modem.bin file out and just made a TAR out of it. seems other modem tar files include just that.
But i don't know if it's correct.
And I'd welcome info on how to flash it, should I put it in the phone field?
Since this is a great way to brick a phone, I'd like some advice on this matter.
Thank you.
You can use heimdal and just flash the modem.bin directly

Don't put it in a TAR file. Just flash the modem.bin directly. Put it in the "PHONE" box. Make sure Repartition is unchecked and no other fields are filled.
After it's done, go to About to verify it flashed correctly. (Look at Baseband)
Done, running JPU modem on stock JPY...seems to also boot faster now
Thank you.
Hi
I am new to Flashing .. Do I need to do Factory Reset even for flashing only the modem.bin file or not..pls reply.

The .zip file in Doc's thread is meant to be flashed through recovery (CWM or 2e). But I guess flashing through Odin worked for you, so all's well.

I'm running Goldeneye 8.0, 4.2.2. I'm looking to update to new MK6 baseband so I can flash goldeneye with kitkat but when I flash MK6 through mobile Odin, I get an error saying that memory is protected or something like that. Can anyone help with this?
I had the same issue when flashing with mobile odin. I ended up using Odin to flash the modem. Only difference is that I was on stock 4.2.2 with MG1 baseband.
Modem files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2324667
ODIN download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738841
Instructions:
Unzip contents to your computer.
Put your phone into download mode
Open Odin
Connect your phone to your computer
Place modem .bin file in PHONE section
make sure to untick autoreboot
flash
Reboot
I'd recommend checking if you have the latest drivers as well. Also check the 'Modem files' thread I linked above - seems like some people are having the same issue with i337m

Thanks for the reply, I've come to find out that you have to be on a stock rom to flash baseband, that's why it wasn't working for me before.
Perfect that's good to know if a new baseband gets released.

Hello everyone,
I know this question showed up a couple of times before, but I'm confused about the whole situation.
I own a Note3 International version bough from an official Samsung retailer in Poland.
Updated to 4.4 KitKat through official Samsung OTA update and a month later decided to go with a custom room. Installed TWRP and Omega 14 rom. Everything is fine, but I can't flash any modem.
Currently I'm running XXUENB1 modem and tried flashing the latest XXUEND6 from Omega repos and XXUENC2 from ALEXNDR development base, but with no sucess.
Tried flashing two times with Odin and than pulling the battery etc. The modem version stays the same. In download mode, it says write protection enabled, is it of any concern?
Is it possible to flash a modem on my Note 3?
Thanks for any help.

Under some conditions it seems that modems are hard to be written on phones with certain bootloaders and a custom recovery - but with stock recovery it seems to work better (and it also works with Mobile Odin Pro).
Right, so I tried the Odin Pro and it says after booting to recovery "Memory lock in place - TriangleAway may fix this. Skipping flash."
So I downloaded TriangleAway, did its magic, but with no result.
Still can't flash because of memory lock.
What can I do next?
Should I flash a stock rom with never modem like this one?

Now I have a custom recovery TWRP 2.7.
Now trying stock... no go. Back with stock rom and recovery and still stuck with the old modem.
edit2: went stoch, rooted and tried to flash using mobile odin pro - no success because of write protection.
Could it be you need to Sim Unlock first? I'm sure I heard that somewhere. Give it a Google to see.

Use triangle away. Even if the counter is zero, thew is a hidden counter that trips a write protect on the modem. After triangle away, it should work. Just be sure to follow the directions.

Yeah, your're right, I've messed it up completely.
Flashed a stock kernel, triangle away and odin pro... everything is fine. Flashed like crazy
Anyway manged to flashed the modem from XXUENC2 from ALEXNDR development base which is around 60MB's and has modem and modem #2 partitions. Question is how can I flash the modems from omega repos which are only 8MB and have one partition only. When flashing with Odin Pro version doesn't change, although flash is a success.

Are they modem.bin or the non-hlos files? Id really recommend doing modem flashes through desktop odin, especially if they're piece meal modems and not a full stock modem flash file.
Other than that I can't offer much assistance for non stock modems, but good luck in your endeavor, and glad I could point you in the right direction to at least get a stuck fladh to work. ?

If you have 2 files modem.bin and non-hlos.bin on the sdcard, download this Terminal Emulator and try these commands: (required ROOT)

dd if=/sdcard/modem.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2

If you still have a problem flashing the Modem, I used this 5 min. ago and it worked perfectly fine(used flashing instruction from x-note)
Download Odin3 v3.09 to your pc, download Modems from Omega(I used NC2) both GSM & LTE.
Put Odin and the Modems from Omega on PC Desktop.
Turn off your Cell Phone (power off normally). Take out your battery(wait 5 sec.) put it back in and boot in download mode(volume down+home+power) and than connect your phone to pc.
Open Odin and press AP and choose the GSM tar file from Omega.
Press start and wait for the phone to reboot.
Turn the phone off again and boot in download mode (same steps as before). Now look for the LTE tar file in AP and press start again.
You should now have your Modem Installed. Good luck mate
Hello,
I am on Cyanogenmod 13. and I have outdated Modem and Bootloader. which effect my network signal
I have downloaded the latest stock firmware which is for my specific device .
from reading all over XDA this is what i understand is the procedure:
1. getting the right stock rom <- done
2. extracting the required files <- my main question
3. create 2 tar packages for Modem and for Bootloader
4. creating MD5 checksum of both file.
5. flashing using ODIN while placing modem file to CR slot and Bootloader to BL slot. (flashing it twice before boot as it might be reset)
now i know how to do all this steps but my problem is to understand which files are required to Modem tar and Bootloader tar.
the available flash-able files made by the community are not consistent. for example some of the modem tar file people made contain modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin while others only modem.bin.
this are the files in the original stock rom:
aboot.mbn
sbl1.mbn
rpm.mbn
tz.mbn
sdi.mbn
NON-HLOS.bin
boot.img
recovery.img
system.img.ext4
modem.bin
cache.img.ext4
hidden.img.ext4
which of them i need to place in the Bootloader tar (BL) and which in the Modem tar (CP)?
I've also searched around hoping to find answer to this question. I've also compared a lot of bootloader & modem tarballs and each was different. If you found a solution please post it here. Otherwise the safest way is to flash stock firmware and then reflash it with desired custom one ...

I'd like to know which files to extract from stock FW. I don't want to end up in boot loop or something worse.
From what I've seen my stock ROM has following files as shown on 1st attachment and most custom modem + bootloader tarballs have files (below files are from PhoeniX ROM v13.6) as shown on 2nd attachment.
There is one particular file named sdi.mbn which can be found in custom modem+bootloader tarballs and which is not present in stock rom.
Ok, I don't know if it's correct or no, but I used for bootloader/modem/kernel update on SM-G900V such a file as shown on the picture.
The original (HOME) .tar.md5 was renamed to .tar.
The next files from it were deleted:
- cache.img.ext4;
- system.img.ext4.
Pit-file was added.
The resulting file was flashed via Odin's AP slot.
Result:
- bootloader, recovery, kernel and modem updated;
- Binary: Official; System: Official;
- all data on /data remain untouched.

No just .tar as ODIN will accept it as well. I'm no expert but my guess .md5 is just a hash to verify .tar.
I used a tool named Odin Tar Converter v1.0 I think I found it on xda somewhere, but you can use any compression tool which is able to make .tar archives ie. 7-Zip.
Afterwards I just followed instructions for flashing bootloader and modem from PhoenixROM so I added .tar archive I've created to AP (newer ODIN) / PDA (older ODIN) and flashed it.
I've came across following instructions:
For the bootloader select BL and browse to your bootloader file.
For the modem select CP and browse to your modem file.

But since I created .tar regarding PhoenixROM bootloader and modem .tar structure it made more sense to follow PhoenixROM instructions.

Maybe I needed it, but no matter how many stock ROMs I got my hands on none of them had this file. According to this article it seems sdi.mbn contains contains transmission band info although I don't think author himself was clear what it actually is used for. Anyway I decided to try and flash modem without it.

Hey, just an opinion. Search around G928G modem.tar and flash it by CP tab of odin before flashing the firmware. Than try flasing firmware. If fails again, remove modem.bin file from firmware(dont know how to). Otherwise extract the whole files from firmware, delete modem.bin and make the rest files as firmware with proper tool(TAR maker or else). Good luck.
