Hello, I hope this is the right place to ask. Does anyone have Google Voice+ (the text routing system app from CM10) working with Paranoid Android 3? I took the system apk from the CM10 build and stuck it in the system apps folder in Paranoid Android. I can run it, but shortly after I launch the app, it force crashes, and a notice in red letters says that the permissions are unavailable to turn off notifications. Does anyone know of this problem?
I'd love to use this with paranoid android and the new google hangouts app. Thanks!

I'm also curious about this possibility. Voice+ with the new Hangouts is great. PA seems to be moving toward 4.4 much more quickly than CM, so I might be moving as well.

I've been messing around with different versions of the Voice+ apk in my sys/apps folder. Still force crashes, and displays an permissions error.
Hope someone can shed some light on this.

While chatting in IRC "cos" brings this to our/ my attention, that it seems like location based apps are now missing and deemed incompatible with the Adam.
Well this seems to be new in the last week, maybe even since the weekend.
I had several apps installed on my Adam from the market; dolphin browser HD and mini, as well as Locus Free, firefox, google maps, gps status and many others are now missing and grey'd out as incompatible with the Adam through the online android market.
Anyone else notice this?
-CC
They show for me but I'm running the CM7 ROM.
still there for me on Beast
I am on stock beta, used the market + root + adhoc hack.
Guessing a build.prop edit is at hand, anyone have any suggestions?
Might have to take a look at what's on other roms ie beast that have it working still.
-CC
EDIT: just to test I flashed vegan 04042011, as others have claimed to not having this issue with that rom. And same issue, shows up in market account, when looking for gps status or dolphin browser hd, they show grey'd out as incompatible..
I thought perhaps something to do with activating AT&T, I used market enabler to switch carrier to Tmobile, same results.
Found something else, my market updates itself to version 2.3.4 or 2.3.6, vegan came with 2.2.11.. Is there a way to stop it from auto-updating?
EDIT2: Flashed Beast 2.1.4 rom and it's market version 2.3.4 and the apps missing or incompatible with the previously listed roms do show..
I had the same issue on Utopia Beta 2 and VEGAn 04042011, but it showed most if not all the apps on Beast 2.1.4.
Rothnic mentioned it may have something to do with permissions, the issue with market not showing location based apps, Dougie187 suggested I copy Beast rom permissions, since it does work and put them on my stock adam.
So that's what I did and it works!
-CC
I've got the same issue, can't find maps, dolphin browser HD or any other gps based app on the market. I've got the stock rom with root+market, can you tell me please how to solve the problem??? I don't know where to find the permissions you're talking about nor how to put them on the adam.
Please I really need help.
Many Thanks
Utopia
Working fine on root+Utopia rom

EdenX should not have this issue, as it includes much more than just the standard root+market hack.
I would ask the dev of that rom directly in their thread.

Try this:
Settings — Applications — Manage Applications
Choose All
Choose Market
Force Stop
Back out, choose Google Service Framework
Force Stop
Clear Data
Back out to the homescreen, run the Market (it should fail – that’s what we want)
Reboot
Wait at least one minute after the system boots up, then retry the Market.

This is a HUGE news in my opinion. Official support for Google Play/Google Apps coming to Nook HD and HD+ soon
Barnes & Noble's press release
http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20130502006907/en/Barnes-Noble-Announces-Google-Play™-NOOK®-HD
Engadget's Hands On video of the new support.
http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/03/...nd-nobles-nook-hd-and-hd-we-go-han/#continued
They say it will be rolling out Over-The-Air and provide access to other Google Apps such as GMail, Maps and Chrome (which is now apparently the new default browser)
I personally can't be more excited for this even though I've been running rooted OS and CM10 SD side by side ever since they became available.
Being able to access Google Play and having official support for many more apps will make HD/HD+ just that much more accessible and usable imo.
Now if only we could the the stock multitasking interface too....
UPDATE: New version number is Version 2.1.0, and you can manually download the update file from Barnes & Noble's website
Just select the Software Update link for the corresponding device and follow the instructions. (You just have to put the update file on the root of your Nook's directory)
I have no idea if it closes any of the rooting exploits, but my impression has been that since we got CWM working, we don't really have to worry about not being able to root now. Still please be cautious if you don't want to risk possibly losing the ability to root/downgrade/run custom ROMs. Just wait it out until the wise wizards of the forum figures out exactly what's going on.
That is fantastic news!! Will go and spread it now! Wow!! :good:
can't install downloaded apk apps...fail once again by B&N
I can confirm that keyboard and launchers downloaded from Play Store works as well as they did with previous "manual" installations.
There are still quite some apps that are just listed as "incompatible" from the Play Store, but having Maps and Chrome running without a fuss is great.
The paper-textured dock has been also been changed in favour of sleeker dark one, (with white icons in place of black ones now) and it seems like "white-on-white" problem is resolved too. (Might have to try out more apps though.)
I can confirm that Universal Root zip still works. Took me a while to straighten out the Play Store though. But it works too, even if you had flashed my gapps zip. May take me a while to test everything to be sure the zips still work.

Just for kicks I unrooted, erased and deregistered before updating to be sure to have absolutley stock setup. And it's working beautifully!
I have installed all my favourite apps with no problem at all.
I seems to me like the general UI is running a bit smoother than before.
And there is widget support in the stock launcher! (Maybe that was tehre before, but I ran ADW Ex right from the start, so I ddn't explore stock that much before.)
Edit: Making one nice discovery after another! Voice search works! And Zinio works as well. I thought maybe they would have found a way to block their competition in the magazine market, but no!

Do you think we will be able to sideload apps and install them through file explorer apps?
Ironically, I bit the bullet and installed the CM 10 Hybrid SD Rom less than 12 hours ago (after using stock root for some time).
Part of me is hoping this configuration has some advantages over the new BN stock but I'd love to hear from people about the advantages/disadvantages of using CM10 vs. the new BN stock so I can make a firm decision about which ROM I'll use daily.
Thanks in advance.

Not right away "out of the box" as it looks. I suspect rooting will be needed to "enable unknown sources", but I'd love to be wrong. Can't test right now though.

Nope
Currently running stock with the latest update, no root. Just tried to install the amazon app store via astro and get the message that install is blocked for applications not obtained from the app store (or google play)

okay so I guess this is a pointless update for me then
This is definitely an improvement: I ditched my other launcher now that I can put non-BN apps and widgets on the homescreen. But I still can't install some of my favorite apps, like Yelp. These and others are listed as incompatible.
What version of Android is the latest stock Nook HD+ running? Is it still on ICS?
That is very cool. I'm not near my Nook now but I hope with this new version it will now show apps loaded from play store in the app drawer as well as in the recent apps?

It may be due to missing hardware features. They have added network location provider to this new release so many apps that need location are now compatible but other missing hardware like GPS or camera may still rule out many apps. GPS location can be added via patch, many apps claim to need it.
Yeah, I noticed the new location features in the update and was hoping that it would make apps like Yelp compatible. You mentioned a patch for GPS?

Yes, it is included in leapinlar's location services rev 1 patch http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613 it adds android.hardware.location.gps.xml to device hardware features (and with bluetooth gps and Bluetooth GPS app it even works inside apps).
Not sure if Yelp specifically needs GPS though.
So we have "Official" support for installing the kindle app on our nooks now.

I haven't tried new stock yet, but the things that kept me going back to CM10 even after I had stock rooted and Play installed were the ICS/Jellybean recent apps display and the incompatibility of some apps. If they let launchers override the native notification bar, on-screen buttons and recent apps, I'd probably run straight stock.
Dear forum,
I'm having a strange issue with gmail and I haven't seen any other references on the forum.
About a week ago, Gmail auto-updated in the Play store, and since that time the icon changed to a "postage stamp" with a "G" on it. The application itself is now dark-themed in the conversation list, though the message text background is still white (the dark/light issue makes some of the text difficult to read).
This application is really broken now, and I don't see anyone else complaining about it, so I'm curious why this ended up on my tablet.
I've tried wiping the data and cache and reinstalling google apps -- the old Gmail is restored, but when I reboot the bizarro Gmail comes right back.
Has anyone experienced this? I'm worried about some malicious app update, but I'm not sure where to go from here.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I'm rooted on stock with the latest updates.

I'm afraid I haven't heard of any issue like this.
If you're reinstalling google apps (I'm assuming via flashing through a recovery), are you sure you're using an official / trusted package from a trusted source?
If the G-apps package is from a malicious or untrusted source this may explain why you can't uninstall it correctly and it has that weird type of persistence.
You can always get a trusted version of the G-apps package from the Goo Manager app from the play store (The app is free and without ads!).
I hope this helps in some way. Sorry I can't offer a more direct answer

Hey everyone,
I have the most up to date Google Hangouts (1.2.018) at least it says so by reconciling b/w phone and play store online.
But I can't seem to find the SMS/MMS setting feature? I'm running stock, and i've gone through every option in the settings menu.
Any ideas? I guess I can root, get titanium and delete and reinstall? Or am I just missing something.
EDIT - I'm on TMO

You have to get the hangout apk. That comes with android 4.4. Install as regular app and your good to go.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I used it, needs more attachment options. When so, it will be my default if it's still as fast.
Just head here to get the .apk with full SMS/MMS functionality. Working on my D800 Beautifully:victory:
I figured as much. Articles kept saying 2.0+
Looking forward to the Kit Kat update (crossing fingers the rumors are true), but until then the apk will have to do. Thanks everyone!
When I start App Ops on my Nexus 10, I can see apps listed in the messaging section but all of the other sections have the spinning "wait" wheel. I've tried to let it sit for a while to see if they eventually appear but nothing does. I'm running 4.3 so as far as I know this should work for me. What might be preventing apps from appearing in the other sections (personal, etc...)?
I think I figured out why App Ops isn't working for me. I had started looking for other alternatives and thought I might try App Ops 4.3 / 4.4 KitKat by Color Tiger (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.colortiger.appopsinstaller&hl=en). The developer mentions that the list of apps will not load if multiple user accounts exist on the device and that its a native App Ops issue. Ahh, well. Guess I should just move to Pdroid or something else.
