[Q] What does TRWP save? Please help :( - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I made a really big mistake by flashing the newest Rayglobe 2.5 ROM. Yesterday I flashed Rayglobe 2.4 and saw few hours later that acer released the 2.5, so I decided before work to copy the new version to my sd card and flash it at work. Few minutes ago I accidentally selected Full Wipe and install the ROM. Now everything is gone on my sd. That sucks, but i made a backup before I flashed Rayglobe 2.4.
Now my question is:
Does TWRP also backup photos and data on sd?
If not, could anybody help me to get my files back? Maybe with a tool to recover lost data.
I can't test it by now, because the backup lies at home.

I solved my problem by restoring most of the files.
If anybody made the same mistake and do a full wipe just use Dr. Fone for Android or follow this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGw1fxUD-uY
Don't waste your time to restore the files otherwise it could be possible that less files are restorable.
regards

[Q] Manually restore files from MIUI backup?

Hi guys,
strange question: I was on an old MIUI GB ROM and decided to upgrade to the official MIUI JB ROM. Saved everything using MIUI backup. I then installed the ROM (NativeSD) and everything went wrong. When I finally got it working ok, it was way laaaaaaaaaagy, so I decided to try tytung's CM10 JB ROM.
Stupid me - didn't take a Titanium or image backup in recovery. I do however have the MIUI backup file. Anyone know of a way that I can either automatically or manually use the data in the MIUI backup to restore at least my game saves, SMS's etc in CM?
Any help appreciated!

CWM restore failed : data.img not found

Hi everybody,
First of all I want to say thanks to this community because I found a lot of informations here and solved many problems I had.
I searched all the day and I don't know what to do with the issue I get now...
I decided to install JellyBlast V3 on my Galaxy Y GT-S5360. Before that I made a backup of my stock ROM with ClockWorkMod (v5.0.2.6) and then I installed JBV3.
All was allright and I wanted to restore my datas only from the backup with the CWM advanced restore. That didn't work (Maybe because I can't restore datas from a different ROM?)
So, I wanted to make a complete restore from the same backup to get all my datas back, but I get the following message :
"data.img not found. Skipping restore of /data
.android_secure.img not found. Skipping restore of /scard/.android_secure.
Restore complete!"
The phone can boot up but my datas are not restored at all.
I explored the backup folder and there is no "data.img"... but in some resolved threads I read people didn't have it neither... and I am a big optimist so I kept searching...
I tried to restore again but with another zip file of CWM (who resolve some bugs) I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27475895
But It failed again with the same issue.
I read that if the kernel changed the restoring is not possible anymore so a previous kernel have to be installed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27475895 )
To be sure, I installed a stock ROM with Odin by following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800
I picked the S5360_XXKL3_OXXKL1_XXKL3 bundle.
Since I installed the fresh ROM I tried to restore datas again, but I got the same issue again...
So, I want to understand why I get this error ?
Maybe flashing with a stock ROM is not enought to replace the present kernel by the original one ?
Thanks for enlighted me (and sorry for my english)
By any chance is your CWM called gt-s5360CWM or something
You have to backup with a clean CWM and restore with the same clean CWM

Indeed, the first CWM I used to create the backup was "GT-S5360_CWM.zip" but the restore doesn't work.
The second CWM I tried is called "CWM_bla_bla.zip" and the restore failed with this one too.
I think the backup I made is not proper
Thank you for your help.
PS : if my backup is corrupted, is there a way to recover at least my contacts with a backup explorer or something ?
EDIT : I think my backup is definitely not good, I made another one with the "unbugged" CWM and It makes more files including a "data.rfs.tar" file...

[Q] I don't want to ruin my phone! any experts around?

Hey guys!
I just got my GS3 rooted and installed the touch version of cwm and now am thinking of flashing a custom rom of my choice.
Now before I flashed anything I used the GS3 Toolkit to backup all my device and when I came to dig deeper on how to flash my GS3 I was left with one unanswered question that I couldn't find an answer to. My android version on my current device is 4.1.2 but the rom I want to flash (Dirty Unicorn) is based on 4.3.1. can I just flash it normally or are there a few steps involved to prevent my device from being bricked?
Thanks in advance I hope this helps someone out there as well
Lots of love,
A rookie passionate about Android!
No, I have flashed flashed DU a few times and even dirty flashed it over PA. You shouldn't have any trouble just make sure you follow the directions to the letter and make a backup first.
Good Luck.
Dnt forget to backup your EFS if you want to get back to 4.1.x or 4.2.x
sent from sgs3 -stock 4.3 open europe rom
Just a nandroid backup in the recovery on your external sd card, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, (and then i usually format system) for a clean install. Then go to install zip and choose your zip.
Don't forget to place your rom on your external sd card so you won't format it by mistake( I already did so, just be carefull and take your time):good:

Help!! go from 8.1 to 6.0

I explain my problem, after taking time trying roms 8.1 I decided to give a second chance to the stock-based roms. After several attempts with a couple of roms, I always get the same problem after installation (so not installed). I have read that it may be a problem with the version of twrp (right now with the latest version). Before trying to download the version I have to do something special, install as an image and go? Do I lose information when doing it?
What steps should I follow to go down to 6.0?
Besides this, I have a backup made of the gizrom, every time I want to restore it I get the same message: so not installed
Thank you

Backup everything on your internal storage while you are on 8.1 rom. Or restore 8.1 rom and do the backup now.
Even you had tried to restore 6.0 stock rom (unsuccessfully) you can still restore the 8.1 Twrp backup it should work.
Go back from 8.1 to stock 6.0 you can restore the 6.0 backup in Twrp as normal. But after restore the backup done you will need to format data. From Twrp menu go to: Wipe > Format data (here you will lose everything on internal storage). The stock 6.0 restored rom/system will still there and working.
You can restore the app data of the backup rom after you done with the format data.
If you don't do the format data the 6.0 rom will not work I think. It will show something about encryption stuff when it try to boot and enter the system.
