hi there,
I made back up of note 2 in kies. thn i bought note 3 and it is supported by Kies 3. The data backup of note from kies is in .sbu format and Kies 3 doesn't recognize this format. After back up from note reset Note 2 as i dont know that it will happen later on. Now please suggest me how to transfer data backup from Kies to Kies 3??/
Yeah same thing happened to me. I had to just manually drag all my photos (can be sync'ed), s-notes, videos, voice recordings, etc; to my desktop and then manually drag them to my note 3. And then as far as dates and stuff from my calendar/s-planner; I simply sync'ed them. All my apps and app data, I used a wonderful app called Helium. Hope this helped.

Why?
"Restoration to the previous backup file or export file
You can also restore data that has been backed up or exported using the previous version of Kies.
File type: spb. ssn, sn3. sme. ssc."
Why, I wonder isn't .sbu on this list. All these other formats are irrelevant!!!
Someone update me if they ever manage to get .sbu open on Kies 3. I'm using a Note 3 with Android 4.3 and I'd love my S3's messages and stuff on my new phone.
I will post here if I figure out how to do it.

Hi
I got a message from vodafone today about froyo
yey
but I really want to 'not muck everything up'
I rooted my phone with one click rooter to use titanium backup pro.
My questions:
Should i back up using Nandriod before i attempt the froyo update?
Is Nandriod easy to use? how do i use it?
How do update to Froyo?
Should I unroot my phone using the one click rooter before
and reroot to 2.2 after? (using the one click rooter)
Sorry for all the obvious questions
Can you guys help?
I was previously on JPC froyo, rooted & lag fixed. I use my backup pro for my backup. All I did to update via kies was backup the stuff I wanted, I didn't un-root I just did a factory reset, wiped the cache, then let Kies do its thing. Rebooted, applied a OCLF & Root then restored.
I used the Samsung KIES software. (cheers for the tip)
It took ages to update the software and i had to keep pressing retry i turn kaspersky off at one point but I'm not sure if that helped speed it up any.
I unrooted my phone
Did the Update through Samsung KIES software
the update
removed my desktop icons
and rearranged my apps list to alphabetical
but i get a cool new beach live wallpaper
but where is the autumn leaves one?
GMail app now shows full message
all good
but still GMail get things stuck in outbox esp video
and the TEXT app - 420 character text convert to MMS is still there
but it seems faster overall
and i had to reroot with
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
and i used titanium backup pro to remove the vodafone spam apps
You can get the Autum leaves LWP again there's a topic about how to get it here.
I followed a suggested guide on Vodas eForum, but included my own backup step......
1. On 2.1 installed MyBackup (Free 30 Day trial) from the market and backed up my apps and data to local sd card.
2. Download KIES from http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/d...enter.samsung.com/content/&ModelName=GT-I9000 (http://www.samsungmobile.co.uk/support/softwaremanuals/software.do?phone_model=GT-I9000)
3. Manually copy off music and images and my backups from the sd card to my PC
4. Installed Kies
5. Factory reset phone (recommended)
6. Update via Kies*
7. Restore music and pictures from PC to phone.
8. Copy mybackup folder form 'sd' directory to 'external_sd' directory and restored data and apps.
* Also found that you need Windows Media player 11 for the MTA drivers to work, certainly did on my XP box.
Faffing around it took me about an hour and a half as I wanted to make sure everything was backed up. Only adverse affect is that games havent kept my progress/saved games, another good excuse to trash them again. Oh and the restored texts have the same date and time (time of restore) rather than the original sent times - meh, I'm not bothered 2.2 is better.
Hello
I have a S2 backup rom (created by CWM) with some important info on it.
I have since sold the Galaxy S2 phone and moved onto a Galaxy Note GT-N7000
I have used 'nandroid browser' for example to search for the raw files within the rom - but couldn't find them due to the search method being too difficult.
So I thought is it possible to load up the S2 rom on the Galaxy Note and take what I need from it ?
How do I go about doing it ?
I have rooted the Note and have CWM installed ready to go.
Any help would be grateful.
Many thanks for reading and any tips.
I really really would not recommend it, Although they are similar, there could be disastrous consequences..... Is it really worth it for a few apps ?
Why didnt you just make a Titanium backup before switching phones?
You can browse the nandroid files on your PC, use winrar or 7zip, Find the info you want, extract it and copy it over to the Note.
You can manually restore data from old cwm backup. Extract it with winrar and copy what you need.
I had lost my contacts so I extracted backup and copied related files.
But do not restore the back up from recovery.
I'm not bothered about the apps, its text messages and pictures!
As for masking a backup before switching phones, that's why I used CWM !
One backup app is the same as any other.
As for using nandroid and winrar, already done that - as already said no good.
It's easier to install S2 rom, boot up, connect to kies and export text messages to desktop then sync on the note later.
As for retriveng pictures, again go into usb mode, search internal sd card and extract - job done!
As for installing rom, too late already done it!
you installed s2 rom on note succesfully?

It seemed to load ok using cwm - choosing the 'restore a backup' option.
When the phone rebooted, the Note N7000 boot screen appeared with the yellow triangle.
A few distorted video lines appeared, blank screen but could hear the start up theme, but no picture and no access to the operating system.
Worth a try though!
I may just buy another used S2 just to get what I want from the image and sell on again.
yeah its very dangerous not even worth a try, but thats my opinion. people have destroyed phones by flashin recovrring stuff not meant for their phone lol

nandroids are not transferable, So if you have s SGS2 you will not be able to restore that nandroid on a SGS3 / Galaxy Note ect ect. Thats why you should have Titanium backups, You can restore a TB backup across a million devices.
you should use titanium backup to explore your nandroid backup of s2 for apps.. and if you want the data of s2 then do a advanced restore of data onto your note may be that will work

You can try AppExtractor: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...iwiY29tLmhhbmR5YW5keS5hcHBleHRyYWN0b3JrZXkiXQ..
It should be able to restore your text messages from the nandroid backup.
i lol'd, it's like you have been waving $500 in bills above a fire...
As i read you want to retrieve your personal data, maybe ask a friend with an S2 to borrow it for a day, root his S2 and make a backup from his setup with CWM and then restore yours on it. After your done flash back his backup and your done

Wrong. It is not. Nandroid is VERY device-specific.

Also, some useful data is part of system apps that don't reliably restore, so should be backed up in a more portable format.
Nandroids - Snapshot of currently running system state
TiBu - Backup of installed apps and data used by those apps. Usually not good for system apps
Call Logs Backup and Restore - Backs up call logs to a portable (and human-readable) XML-based format
SMS Backup and Restore - Same as the previous app, but with an obvious difference.
I am in the market to buy a new Note 3 and I was looking to see if I can backup my S3 on VZW and then transfer everything to the Note 3. I usually use TB or Go Backup/Restore Pro to backup my apps and data when I clean flash a new Rom and didn't know if I could do the same with crossing platforms with the Note 3. Thanks in advance

I have the same question... I tried backing up my Note 2 using TB and restoring with snapshot image. Didn't really work as planned. Trying the XML restore now to see if that's better.
Anybody know more about this?
I came from the S3 and was able to restore my TiBu backup. I restores all data apps along with data, my call log and SMS log. Don't restore any other system app as they can cause issues.
Yeah I am only looking to swap over my apps and data. Nothing system wise.
Download your apps on the Note and transfer the data from the gs3.
I do it all the time. I have a copy of a game on my tablet and save the progress (data only) in my droobox with titanium. I download the data on my phone, and titanium updates my game where I left off.
Hope that makes sense.

I ended up just restoring missing apps and ALL Data (assuming that means app and system). Seems to work fine now. I'm guessing the system data includes wi-fi, screen layout, ring tones, etc....
Worked for me anyway. When I tried to restore ALL APPs and ALL DATA the whole thing went haywire and I had to do a reset/wipe and start over with TB.
Hello, since my system had been unstable recently, I used Keis to backup my Note PRO and did a hardware reset. I selected all to backup everything and also selected all to recover everything. Unfortunately, after the recovery, I found:
1. Some settings were set incorrectly or disappeared.
2. One photo became corrected
3. Stored passwords to google, yahoo, Facebook are gone. I need to re-enter everything
4. The mails that I sent to people using the mail address from my phone company are all gone.
So, Keis 3 is not a reliable app to backup the device?
Keis 3 is not a complete backup software it will only save samsung and minor system settings. You need to be rooted to backup data files which hold most of what you have missing.
It's sad that we can't have a full backup of all needed settings and files. There are some solutions like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en_GB Helium which is the only 9 new that will not need rooting the device.
Wish you the best in your journey
Chris

I tried SMS Backup+ and it doesn't work. It seems to backup everything, but when I restore, it just shows everyone's name in the text message list and each conversation is completely empty.
So I'm wondering 2 things:
1. Are there any apps that actually work for doing this right now with the Galaxy Note 4?
2. Can I manually extract my text messages? My phone is rooted. Here's the deal -- I'm flashing a new ROM and want to carry over my text message history. I would gladly do this manually if I knew how. I don't know where they're located or if this can be done.

Backs up SMS text messages to PC and restores. Amazing app now also allows PC to view and control your Note 4.
Also look at the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app.

I accidentally DELETED my messages. Unfortunately I wasn't able to back up my SMS prior to the incident. Is there any safe way to retrieve my SMS messages without rooting the phone (android version 5.0.1)?
Will appreciate any help. TIA.
connect your mobile to computer with samsung kies which can help u to backup info in it
I know this thread is too old , but who use kies !!!!! Note 4 dont use it
Use smart switch , there app for phone and for pc for backup or switching devices
Will the Samsung switch work restoring backed up messages (from stock rom) to a custom ROM (not TouchWiz based)?

Same here.
I do 27000 sms backup/restores after each wipe. The only problem - process is slow.
But maybe it's due the number of sms messages.

My favorite app is TunesBro Android Manager. you can only backup selected messages. In most cases, people only need to backup the messages he/she cares about.

I will prefer to Android Assistant App, which has the feature of one click backup and restore, very convinient.
For backup the text messages for Android , you can sync your account with Facebook then log in Facebook to the Android phone , you can copy these messages that you need to backup , after you copying is completed , you can withdraw from your phone, then login into your computer with the same Facebook account , then export data on your computer for backup , the text messages backup program is completely ,
For recover messages for Android , you can extract these deleted data form backup on computer ,
Is there an app that can compatible with data recovery and backup for Android ?
I use gosmspro for messages,it has it's own backup feature which can also be used to schedule a backup.
