Hello Xda, sorry for such a noob question but i have manually(using Terminal) just tried to root my nexus 4 with a little sour luck. I think the problem came when moving SuperSU to my nexus, i had no idea what to so i simply used Android File Transfer. Then i went to my device and Twrp seemed to be working fine so i installed and backed it up. Then i went to root checker and root checker said my phone was not rooted and although SuperSU was present it said that ther is no SU BInary was installed.
Hi. Go ahead and install this zip in TWRP. http://download.chainfire.eu/351/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip?retrieve_file=1
It installs SuperSU and the required binaries.

I got a Google Nexus 4 about a month ago. Somebody told me I should root my phone so I installed the Nexus toolkit and did all of that. I proceeded to install a buncha stuff on it like Call Master, Titanium backup, etc.
But then I kept getting notifications saying there was an update to Android 4.2.2 so I updated it thinking maybe it wouldn't cause a problem. But now none of my programs work, and when I open up SuperSU it says:
"There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
how can I fix this?

Do you have a custom recovery? You'll have to flash the SuperSU zip again so it can install the binaries.

Alot of times u lose root when u install an OTA. You will need to reroot your phone

What's a custom recovery exactly? I'm a complete noob to this stuff.
And how do I flash the SuperSU zip again?
Just download the toolkit from WuFresh and in it they have an for Nexus 4 on 4.2.2 proceed to root again since your bootloader should be already unlocked (when the phone boots you see under Google a lock that has been unlocked) once it's rooted again, you'll be clear, I would suggest making a fresh Nandroid after you rooted having the new OTA.

Get OTA Root Keeper from the Play Store and back up. Then whenever there is an OTA update, you just restore the back up and you will have root again.
My device was fine and rooted until 4.3 dropped and just like when 4.2 dropped I lost root access.
I downloaded the Nexus Root Toolkit and ran through the Root process. There were a couple of times where the on screen messages weren't going forward such as push files to device, etc. but when I rebooted the device it seemed to be ok and it went into TWRP.
After it went into TWRP it said Rooting but nothing happened. I hit reboot, system, then it asked if I wanted to root. I swiped for yes.
I rebooted my device and started Super SU. It says my device isn't rooted.
Can anyone assist me with this. I'm almost thinking this isn't worth it if I have to jump through hoops every time there is an update.
Thanks.
Nevermind I fixed it. I had to install SuperSU 1.5 manually in recovery in order to get it to work.
Will tht work on my razor hd maxx xt926..same issuie had root.then over the air ota update 4.3 took my root accsess..tried reroot several ways..no luck.got it to install a diff su app..but when reboot..says su not installed .everytime I reboot the symbal # pops up says update binary .try to says same .su not installed..plz tell me step by step how u went in recovery to manually install.how reboot in recovery?.then update from playstore?.or flash again?and re root?

I'm having trouble with SuperSU on 4.4.2 on Nexus 4.
So at 4.3 I unrooted first, then OTA'ed to 4.4 and now 4.4.2.
Yesterday I used cf-auto to root my phone, but there was no SuperSU. Then I downloaded one from Google Play. But it keeps saying "unfortunately SuperSU has stopped" when there is a need to use SuperSU, i.g. when there is a root explorer app running. I doubt whether the root was successful so I downloaded a root checker, but it kept saying "please wait". So I even don't know whether my phone is rooted.
Please help.
Do you have a custom recovery? Download the zip in the op and flash in recovery.

no i have the original recovery.
I tried Reinstallation in SuperSU and used root checker, which said my device has root access. But after I installed SuperSU again, it keeps crashing again. (keeps saying SUperUS has stopped.)
If you haven't gotten this squared away, I would recommend using Wug's toolkit to return to stock unrooted and then using the toolkit to reroot.

Just encountered this kind of problem on Purity. Flashed latest build (4.4.2), and then I didn't have root acces anymore. Then I tried rooting with Wug's toolkit (CWM as recovery and SuperSU as root), and unfortunately superSU didn't appear at all in the apps. I tried installing it from the recovery, no luck.
Then I tried it with SuperUser. it worked. I didn't ask any questions
Hi, recently I updated my rooted nexus 4 to 4.4.4 jellybean, which then unrooted it. I still have SuperSU installed, but once I try to run any root apps, it says I am not rooted. Looking around, I need to reroot the device, but my custom recovery TWRP has been uninstalled. I tried to install twrp with GooManager but it wouldn't download. The best option seems to be to reroot the device, but I cannot make a nan droid backup as no recovery installed. I have one but its fairly old, and I will lose a lot of data. What I need is a way to install custom recovery but I'm not rooted :/
You know this is the nexus 10 forum right?
What you need to do is flash a recovery via fastboot and then reroot.

I just bought a refurbished S4 i-337 from AT&T (got in on the $179 no contract deal recently). The phone had 4.3. I downloaded 4.4.2 NB1 OTA, installed it via ODIN, and installed the NC1 update both downloaded from here on XDA. I'm trying to get root via Towelroot. I am trying to install SuperSU first before Towelroot because if I install Towelroot by itself, I don't get root. I downloaded the Superuser apk, and installed it. When I go to open SuperSU, I keep getting this stupid message that "there is no SU binary installed, and and SuperSU cannot install it."
I have searched and searched for an answer, but the only one I can find is to install the SuperSU zip via CWM, which does me no good since I'm on stock recovery. How do I fix this?

I had tried this first on NB1 with no success. For some reason once I updated to NC1, Towelroot worked just fine. SuperSU hanged up on disabling Knox, but after rebooting, installing/reinstalling, and rebooting again, it finally decided to work.
