So you're having troubles using Kingo Root (mostly download problems) (slow, times-out)? Well, here's the solution for the Z1.
Download google-usb_driver_r7.7z ( https://db.tt/bBelFPAw ) Dropbox, no secret chinese site
Download sony_driver_1.2.exe ( https://db.tt/jf0yBDHK ) Dropbox for convenience, but you can find it anywhere else)
Install Kingo,
Put both files in C:\Program Files\Kingo Android ROOT or wherever your Windows installed Kingo
Start the program.
The other downloads when the program starts are from another server which is faster.
Hi,
Tried this but still Kingo tries to download the drivers in appdata/local. It removes the Google usb drivers.7z and I get the part file again.
Any other tips?
Sent from my C6903 using xda app-developers app
both links not working for me ...
EDIT: links not working in opera 12 ... internet explorer OK

Well, uhm, when the program starts it checks a few locations fot the google_drives and sony drivers and if they're not found it will download the drivers. You can use http://download.sysinternals.com/files/ProcessMonitor.zip to see the locations where it looks for.
start procesmonitor (just an exe no install) then start Kingo...wait till the part! file gets created.
File>stop capture
Edit>find search for google-usb_driver_r7.7z, then look for the line that says "NAME NOT FOUND" or something or edit>search for Kingo Root and look at all the steps it executes. I can't do it again since it's already download and installed.
@Kyrius, links are working. Just tried. The filesize exceeds the 7z max by 100Kb or so on the forum so I couldn't attach that one.
so i finally got the files but after i put them in the right folder and start the kingo it deletes the file and starts to download ... strange
Both of these are already in:
C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\ZJMedia\Perf ectRoot\drivers
guess thats why it worked ok for me?
Thanks for the share!
Made things painless.
Tried for fun to OTA .257 from a rooted .518 (vroot),
but obviously did not work.
I had at no point a part file in the "drivers" folder, and things went smoothly.
Many thanks for the tips with process monitor,
Turns it was looking for google usb driver in /pogramfiles/kingoroot not app data.

I have not yet seen anyone confirming this.
Did not try that myself.
I think i read from a couple of people that they tried, and failed.
The way to do it (which you will easily find out in the forum) is to first root .534 with latest Kingo root, then OTA .257
You should now still be rooted
I try and dont work in. 257, try vroot and 360 root.

The right location for both files in my Win7 is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Kingo Android ROOT", so place them in there and all should be working fine.

Worked for me! It was even easier than rooting an HTC Evo 4G. This thread, or at least the thread referenced in the first post, should be stickied in the Development sub-forum.
I am a Noob and I can Root my Note!
I had experience rooting a Milestone 2 with SuperOneClick and an unbranded Android Tablet with Z4Root. (Thanks to developers of these!)
Unfortunately, both these methods did not work on the Galaxy Note so I came here and found this thread.
Unfortunately, ADB drivers was an issue with the zergRush Exploit on first run. The easiest way to get around this is to install PDANet on Windows and have it install the drivers for you. No need to complete the whole installation, just watch when it's finished installing USB drivers and then when prompted to continue, just cancel. Then re-run the zergRush Exploit and it should do its magic (Again thanks to the developers who work on these!)
While I'm able to freeze some apps with ROM Toolbox, I'm unable to change boot animation or the battery icon. Would appreciate if anyone could help with this!
Rooting hav no relation to install official/crckd version of apk.
Rooting needed for those application which are needed to access your system data e.g backup etc
when you need to install these kinds of application (weather off/unoff) you needs Root.
The optional unrooting package works also perfectly (just for info)...
i have sent back my Galaxy Note to amazon just to wait for the white version of the Note.
This method won't increase your binary counter, so root and unroot it as often as you like
Never either had any problem at all after rooting it, so this method is also stable and won't crash your device in any way or crash any applications...
Root confirmed working here, superuser.apk doesn't have permissions set properly but still works, easy to fix, updates fine from market.
Awesome - confirmed working. This needs to be stickied... other websites are promoting netchips CWN kernel method instead of this MUCH simplier way.
For you noobs with a clean system (that means me!), get the following files:
Note I run a 64 bit windows box, get the 32 bit variants if necessary.
You need:
1) Latest version of Kies
www.samsung.com/ca/kies/index.html
download file for me was: Kies_2.0.3.11082_152_4.exe
2) Java:
www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
Click on jdk and download. File for me: jdk-7u1-windows-x64.exe
3) android sdk:
developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
My file was: installer_r15-windows.exe
4) zergrush root script
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
grab the zip file in that page i.e.
DooMLoRD_v1_UNROOTING.zip
and unzip it to your windows box.
Install 1, 2, 3 in that order.
Find the SDK Manager program in your sdk install directory, double click it, and download/update 'Android SDK Platform Tools'.
Note you can't run the sdk manager program from the command prompt, or it'll complain that directories are being locked.
Now follow the instructions on the zergrush page, i.e. do the 'before you begin' stuff.
Go to the directory where you unzipped the doomlord zip file, run the runme script from a command prompt, and that's it.
To test, download terminal monitor, run it, and do a 'su' then 'id' and see if it says you are root or not.
Good luck!

if i restore the unrooted back up. Will i go back to became un root again and go back to out of the box state?
will this work with the Korean version of the Note? thanks in advance.
Hey everyone I saw some similar requests but it seems that no one has the same problem I'm having.
I've created a Goldcard from a 2GB Kingston MicroSD card and copied sappimg.zip to it.
But when I boot the phone using down-volume+power, it fails to load the updater.
If anyone could shed some light on the issue I'd be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Do you really renamed it to SAPPIMG.ZIP?
MS Windows can hide extensions and you see file sappimg.zip, but it is sappimg.zip.zip and phone does not recognize this file.
Double check that you are using right manual. Why do you need downgrade? It is not necessary
Thanks for the reply, Strogino.
Yes, I'm sure I've named the file sappimg.zip - I have hidden file extensions turned off.
From the two manuals I've looked at (CyanoGenMod wiki and theunlockr.com), I need to downgrade to the 1.5 firmware before I will be able to root it.
You said it is not necessary, can you show me the manual which does not require it?
Thanks,

Hi this is my first thread and i really dont know how this works but heres the problem
i bought a nexus 4 16gb from a guy on craigslist and it has a wierd rom in it, it is still 4.2 and i am unable to get updates on it. i browsed around and landed on a forum that said about it being some kind of debugger/developers rom that google uses. i dont have a lot of feature i can't connect it to computer to root it and neither can i transfer file from computer for exaple music or pictures.
The build number is:
full_mako-userdebug 4.2 lgep19
eng.seungju24.choi.20121114.105751 test-keys
If you want your phone back to stock and unroot you'll need to access a PC and follow this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
This will put the phone how it comes out of the box. Otherwise if rooted and has custom recovery why not stay rooted and flash different 4.2.1 roms?

1) That's a Debug ROM
2) It shouldn't be used as an actual ROM. Download this: https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B_zuNWpIf1ujNlFDVnZ3dzg2WEU&export=download
3) Extract it.

So i've flashed OptimusRs's rom yesterday and i made a mistake by not flashing it with the costume recovery he gave on his theard.
now I'm able to get into my phone but i have no signal from my network operator at all.
i tried to flash a kdz via download mode and it won't work it says in the LGM support tools that my phone has the latest version and won't let me upgrade it.
i can't flash to another ROM because there's no costume rec for KK just yet.
what do i do?

Yeah I nearly made that mistake too. As it was installing, I got a bad feeling and stopped the installation process halfway. Seems okay, but yeah - it's a zip file with no installation necessary. So if you find yourself installing stuff, then you clicked wrong.

It happened to me too. Download malwarebytes and it will stop the installation of more malware and it will completely remove all the crap that got installed in the first place
DITTO
AVAST went nuts and killed most of them and a registry watchdog caught one trying to write an auto start on boot. I hate download sites.
I can tell you that as soon as DEV Host sold themselves out with that CRAP download button ****t, I made sure i never visit their site again! That's the worst thing a company can do to make a few bucks and I loath any company that does not care about their traffic like DEV host has done. Plenty other legit sites to get that root tool and/or just use decent Antivirus/anti-malware tools and that download button won't even show up, nor will it allow ANY type of installs or changes to your registry.
On those download websites, I always look at the link first to see where it's going to take me before I click on it. If you look, the "Download Now" button takes you to a URL with the correct file in it.
I tried downloading it a few times and kept getting the .exe file, so I decided to download it in a VM and take a snapshot before running it.
I ended up not actually getting the .zip file from the executable even when it went through the motions, then I noticed someone saying to use the "download now" button instead.

Malwarebites saved me but my system files got damaged ended up having to reinstall windows sadly.

Go Offline. Use another PC to download ComboFix to a USB drive. Boot affected PC into safe mode (offline), run Combo Fix. Boot into normal mode, and rerun ComboFix.
Install SpyBot and do its immunity. It adds like 800,000 known bad sites to a HOSTS files redirect (blocks).

On those download websites, I always look at the link first to see where it's going to take me before I click on it. If you look, the "Download Now" button takes you to a URL with the correct file in it.

Common sense, you have it.
Seems others in this thread simply don't. The file that had to be downloaded was a 4+GB file that was compressed (tar.gz), not an exe. I really don't understand the confusion here.

Usually i am pretty Good at avoiding malware. May have seemed like common sense but it got me. I think i made the assumption that the file was necessary for something because of how it was named.

What got me was that the instructions said to use the send_command file from the LG root zip, when I extracted it and only saw a single exe I knew something was wrong.
Got me too. I terminated the process when it occurred to me that nowhere in the root instructions did it say to run anything hopefully there's not something lurking that got plopped in there before I quit it.
Mine didn't even unzip. I didn't have any issues downloading and my PC didn't yell at me but when I tried to unzip the file 7Zip kept telling me the file wasn't a valid archive. I ended up getting the send_commands elsewhere.
Also, to the guy who listed ComboFix above....you sir know what you're doing . I came across ComboFix years ago I was working as a desktop support tech and that's my first GoTo app for virus/malware cleanup. If it doesn't find it, nothing will.
